K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures	what false information can do to you	The good thing about public forums is that bad information can be corrected. That particular has been covered ad nauseum here. But to state again K-1 visas do NOT expire unless you do NOT enter the USA. If you enter the USA the K-1 is CANCELLED upon entry. It is replaced by the I-94 which expires in 90 days. In order to adjust status from a K-1 visa you MUST get married before the I-94 expires. There is NO particular deadline to file AOS. I am aware of several cases where the people waited more than two years to file the AOS and had no problems. Clearly it is better to file sooner for the benefit of the foreign spouse, but not necessary. DO NOT leave the USA until you have a green card in your hand if you have been here more than 180 days past the expiration of the I-94 without filing for AOS. When browsing the forums, read several threads on the topic and get the consensus of experienced people. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures	Has Anyone Waited OVER 5 Months For Their NOA2?	I hope that all people that go through this remember what they did to be together. The challenges of having a foreign spouse seems to weigh heavily on some people and it is difficult at times. Enjoy it, and you will always be happy. As for me...I haven't had a bad day since Alla arrived...No matter challenging it gets, I just think "when the day is over, I will sleep naked with Alla" Wait until you teach them to drive!!!!!!!!!! This is very true. You know....in all the fairy tales the heroes and heroines generally have a few trials and tribulations to overcome...and being separated for months and in some cases even a year or more certainly can test a relationship. Hopefully this is the worst we all will have to face. Sometimes this waiting can be a good thing...from one of the more popular threads for the past few days someone was able to see the true face of the person that they had gotten into a LDR with before they got here. Gary has given some pretty good advice on the waiting...and I would repeat it. This is a good time to start thinking of the obstacles you will face in the future when your foreign spouse arrives...how will they see their new life? What cultural differences will you both face? How will they deal with leaving behind everything they hold familiar....family, friends, work, culture? That can be a journey in and of itself and taking this time that you are apart can be used to consider this...it may even help to pass the time. On the other hand...this is exactly why I want as little goverment in my life as possible. This is indeed what will happpen to our health care or anything else that it wants to get its hands on. Imagine this process being applied to going to the doctor. I am not an alarmist but a realist. Even the post office...the only government agency to show a profit for many years is falling apart. Look at anything the government runs and you will find this seemingly endless and faceless bureaucracy that is barely accountable. Thousands of dollars and my choice of spouse is at the whim of government employees? As I write it occurs to me that I find that having to pray that this process go smoothly to be a little at odds with the idea of the country I grew up in....but this is probably a topic for a different forum... Ukraine allows documents in Ukrainian or Russian without translations. Alla used to do translations for them and she no longer needs to. SOME consulates require ALL documents to be translated to English, USCIS also requires all documents not in English to be translated. Actually, the requirement is that documents in Russian do not need to be notarized, but all documents must translated into English... Copies and translations of each document into English are required. Translations must be notarized only when the original is in a language OTHER than Russian. (e.g. a translation from Ukrainian into English must be notarized, translation from Russian into English does not need to be notarized). Original birth certificate, photocopy and translation into English. Evidence of termination of prior marriage(s) (if applicable), original, photocopy and translation into English. Just thinking about it though would lead me to believe that these packages are going to be seen by more than just the consulate...when you have your status adjusted it would seem that these documents would again be reviewed, but here in the US. It is the government letting you know they have both recieved your petitiona and have routed it to its destination. You should also expect to receive a hardcopy of this in the mail.
