@scartwright, we got our NOA2 on Oct. 2, and the petition was forwarded from the CSC to NVC on Oct. 25th. The NVC hasn't actually received it yet though, so we are hopeful that will be this week sometime. I freaked out because the NVC said they have 90 DAYS to forward the packet to the embassy (btw, we assumed my fiance would go to the embassy in Oslo for his interview, but it sounds like everyone has to go to Stockholm??), but other people on this site have assured me that real time processing right now is 5-7 days before it is sent to the embassy.

People on here have also suggested that 60-70 days is the time frame for Scandanavian K-1 visas, from NOA2 to embassy appointment. This is a  lot faster than I thought it would be (it took us 7.5 months to get NOA2). My fiance is coming to the US on a tourist visa on Dec.7 for a month, but now it looks likely his embassy date will be set sometime in Dec, so we have to figure out if we can change his ticket. You can ask for a new date when they assign one for your embassy interview, but I have heard that this is not a good idea, and you should do everything you can to stick to the original assignment...

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Serious CSC Delay For NVC

It took us 7 months to get our NOA 2, which was on Oct. 2nd. Everytime I called the NVC they said they didn't have it yet, and everytime I called the CSC, they said they don't keep track of mailing dates, but two letters are generated at the same time, and one is sent to me and one to NVC. So the guy said it should have been sent on October 2nd. Yeah right. Luckily, our congressman's office is involved, so they were able to find out today from CSC that it was actually mailed to NVC on October 25th. I was told to wait until this friday to call NVC to see if they have it yet. Today is day 33.

What does the NVC do- I am finding conflicting info online. Do they just package it and mail to the embassy, or do you as the applicant pay another fee and file a Support Affidavit?

Thanks!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Waiting time for the NVC case number
  • We got our NOA 2 on October 2nd, but hadn't heard anything more. I keep calling both the CSC and NVC, and no one knows where it is, but apparently this is very common. Luckily, I have our congressman's office involved, and they were able to talk to someone at the CSC who said they mailed our approval on Oct. 25th to the NVC, and they will follow up this Friday (2 weeks after the 25th). It is so crazy that it takes so long to send a piece of mail. We are now 8 months out in this entire process, and beyond frustrated. And if it takes 3 months at NVC, like they are predicting, we are going to be well over a year of this ####### before my fiance can even come here...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThrow in the Towel and Move to Fiance's Country Instead?

Christeen,  that is a really good point about the attorney! I hadn't thought about that...  Well, I guess I will just take a chill pill and up my game of patience :) Most of the time I'm fine, but I think with it being a Monday of a new month, and the realization that its already been 8 months and we aren't at the NVC yet hit me a little hard :/

Its amazing how support from other people going through this process helps! :) :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThrow in the Towel and Move to Fiance's Country Instead?

Thanks Sharkano! Yes, that is the timeline we originally thought too. But CSC is now saying 8 weeks (although I think you are right about it being more like 40 days for most people, we are on day 33), and the NVC told me directly that when they receive it from CSC they now have up to 90 days to forward it to the Embassy in Norway. So, feasibly, it "could" take a full 5 months, but fingers crossed it doesn't and it just is the 5-7 days. Just trying not to give in to false hope thinking things will go quicker.

We do have our congressman's office involved, and did file an adjudication at the NOA2 process. We are now considering paying the money for an attorney just for peace of mind. But I will say that our congressman's office has been VERY responsive and helpful. I spoke to CSC this morning to inquire about when the NOA2 will be forwarded to NVC, and they had zero information to give me. I relayed this to my congressman's office, and they called 20 minutes after I did and found out it actually had been sent on the 25th of October (the NVC apparently just hasn't gotten it, although its hard to tell- the girl I spoke to there this afternoon was super rude and hung up on me). So, I guess there is progress.... but because of all the weird bumps along the way, it just is hard to tell.

Thank you all again for the responses, I really appreciate it :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThrow in the Towel and Move to Fiance's Country Instead?

Thanks guys, I know patience is the name of the game, but still... Its a bummer when you see other people's applications getting processed so quickly! We have been very fortunate in that we have been able to travel back and forth a bunch, so that does help...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThrow in the Towel and Move to Fiance's Country Instead?

Hey all! I am new to posting on VJ, but have been following it for about 9 months. I am thankful to everyone for their advice and stories! My fiance and I have been patient, and done everything asked of us, but feel like this process is going to go on forever since we keep getting delays and mis-information. We thought we were accurately following the timeline for a K-1 visa, and tried to loosely plan our lives around it. Big mistake. We are so far off the timeline, and are basically just in limbo land. All we want to do is be together and start our life. We are inbetween NOA2 and our petition going to the NVC. Due to holdups, they are estimating it will take 2 months to arrive at the NVC, and 3 months to be sent from there to the Embassy in Norway. 5 months to process the approved petition, but online it says this process is supposed to occur within 2 weeks. If this is correct, it will place our petition well over 1 year before we even schedule his Embassy interview. So messed up!

We don't really care where we live, as long as we are together, so now we are thinking of just scrapping it and having me apply to move to his country, which should be a lot faster.

Have other people on here gotten frustrated to the point where they withdrew their petition and applied in their fiance's country?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

My fiance and I travel alot back and forth between the US and Norway, and since our NOA1 came through (March 2013) and our NOA 2 (October 2013), I have traveled to Norway twice and he came here for 2.5 months. They didn't give him a hard time when he came into the US for almost the entire length of his tourist visa- I think they just wanted to see his return plane ticket. However, he is coming in early december for 5 weeks, so we might need to have him bring more info to prove he is leaving in January. I think it helps to fly into smaller airports too, just in general. I hate customs at the Atlanta and Newark airports, but Houston, Minneapolis, and Portland OR seem easier to navigate and less of a hassle...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List

Our application was held up for months on an RFE, which they NEVER told us about. I only found out 6 months after our NOA 1 that they were planning to deny our application because I hadn't submitted anything really with our original application. After I scrambled to get our photos, declaration of intention to marry, a more thourough description of our relationship, etc., it went really quickly, maybe a month. I knew we had to send that stuff in, but I thought it was later in the process, not with the initial application. Funny that for those 6 months I kept calling the CSC to get an update, they never thought to tell me I didn't send in all the info. I am a government employee, and deal with red tape all the time, so I thought I had this process dialed. WRONG.

PIECE OF ADVICE: Google instruction sheets for every form you fill out. They often keep the instruction forms in a seperate area/location from the actual form.
