USCIS Service CentersI'm so depressed :( come on vsc!!

I just figured out how to do the quote thing to. Lol

Despite my hair being as black as the Ace of Spades, I go blonde when it comes to computer stuff lol :)

Most definitely. CSC stuck for months doing nothing until there was uproar and everyone contacted their senators, and that's when they kicked into action. It doesn't have any negative impact on your petition. There are also cases where the congressman's office has contacted USCIS so much that they give out the NOA2 so they stop calling.

Thanks. It's cant hurt can it. Just as well I have researched who my local congressman is. (Also proud that I think I have just figured out how to do the 'quote' thing on here :) )

Does contacting your local congressman and senator help at all? I see people posting about contacting them. I can't see how it would hurt but does it have any bearing on the application? :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice check and medical

Your medical history is only what you tell the doctor at Knightsbridge. Nobody can view your medical records unless you provide them. Drug testing is not routinely done, but could always be requested if the doctor saw fit to do so. The grounds for inadmissibility state

(iv) who is determined (in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services) to be a drug abuser or addict, is inadmissible

.

If you are no longer a drug abuser or addict, then you probably don't fit that definition.

Thanks Nich-Nick, I don't use anymore, and will be happy to do any amount if tests to prove this.

I would still have to check the yes on that question though, on the questionaire wouldn't I? I don't want to lie and it's not a piece of my past I am proud of, but if I get found to be lying at a later date.

Thank you

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice check and medical
In my youth I made some wrong decisions (going back almost 13 years now) and I had a drug addiction. I have not had a problem in 13 years nor touched it.

On the medical questionnaire I have to state whether I have misused drugs to which I have to say yes as will be in my medical history, and I fully realise I will probably have to provide a urine sample at the medical to prove I have nothing in my system, will the fact I used to have a drug problem be a instant visa denial? I have never had a conviction or arrest with the police as a result, so I know that part is not a problem.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice check headache
The trip was continual, pretty much except to come home to UK for funerals. The 'and' was a typo, I meant to type 'to', sorry for any confusion.

I will get the certificate to be thorough, I just had no clue as how to go about it aside from a vague google search (and those aren't always good for givin concise information). I was not registered there, in Cyprus, so that is why I was a little confused but, you basically confirmed what I thought I would have to do.

Thank you both for your advise on the topic.

Thank you so much Nich-Nick :)

I knew I would need one but did not have a clue as where to start. Paperwork and Cyprus in the same sentence equals a headache.

Yet again this site has provided me with clear and concise information to a question :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice check headache
I realise that once we are married and red tape gets to a certain point I will need a police check to hand to the Embassy. I am not at this stage yet but I am collecting information and writing notes for when I have the joy of paperwork and red tape.

I travelled around Cyprus from October 2008 and April 2011 with no fixed address and had a shared PO Box for mail. I was not a permanent resident.

My question is;
How would I fill that in for the police check? I had a registered address here in the UK during that period but obviously I was hoofing around Cyprus, getting a tan and generally having a ball before I had to start adult life? I realise I may have to have the joys of contacting Cyprus' Embassy or someone, not really sure...have any of you fellow VisaJourneyers got any advise or help for me please?

Thanks in advance

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiling in my maiden name

You may want to leave one open and change its address to your US address. I hear from expats that it's frequently useful.

Thanks speedwell. I didn't know this :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiling in my maiden name

That works fine. Your passport and bank things do not have to be in your married name to start the visa process in your married name. Or they can be. Either way will not delay or hinder the visa. Many people keep their maiden name passport until it expires, even though they have immigrated and have new married name bank accounts in the US, married name driver license, and married name greencard.

It is cheaper to renew the passport in the UK, than in the US.

Awesome. I got about 22 months left on the current passport so I may as well get it done once married as at that point will have about 18 months so may as well. And as for the banks I will be closing all accounts on departure so on thinking there is no point on those ones. I would like my passport in my married name.

I was going to ask this question later down the line.

My hope was to marry, come back to UK, send my passport to get changed into my married name around the same time we file the I-130, then I just need to change my bank details. The logistics work in my head but no doubt I have missed something that a knowledgeable person on here can correct me on. You guys are awesome for the advice, would have pulled my hair out by now if it wasn't for here. :)

PhilippinesDoes ITR has baring?
When I met my husband he was in the same process that your friend...he filled his taxes as married and with his ex.
We didnt have any problem during the K1 adventure, so I don't believe your friend will have some problems.
Only during our AOS interview they asked to my husband why he signed his divorce at the same day he sent the petition for K1, he told his story and they were living together, we have proofs of this...and everyhting went well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the difference between the CR-1 and IR-1?

Actually I think it's the other way around. CR=conditional resident (under 2 years of marriage) and IR=immediate resident (2 years or over). So, IR-1 would be the best one to aim for, unless you can't wait/aren't able to legally reside with your spouse in Brazil.

Sorry,

You're right, I've made a mistake changing the visas....

Hi Le,

If you are married for more than 2 years you will receive a 10 years GC (CR1), think will be your case when you come back after finish your law school in a few years. Less than 2 years into a marriage you receive a 2 years GC (IR1) and after that you will need to apply for the 10 years GC, like us that came with the k1.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMISSED INTERVIEW - WHAT NOW?
[quote name='Juan L' timestamp='1359455513' post='
In Colombia they don't set the date for you but you book the interview online. If you can't go you just go online and change it up to one day before the interview. If you don't do that and miss it, you just re book (and pay again the interview fee).

I see that http://usvisa-info.com/ is available for brasil too so maybe it's alike. There's no big deal, a lot of people miss visa interviews everyday! just call the embassy and ask them about it so you can re schedule! most likely you will need to repay.

Hope you get better so you can continue with your journey! health is first :)
[/quote]

In Brazil they set your date, no chance to book your interview online.
Call the consulate asap.

I checked my case status today and it showed that from initial review it is now in the post decision activity since yesterday, but when i checked my E-mail i found nothing in there from USCIS that notifies me about this development, my question is, is this normal that they are no longer sending e-mail notification after NOA1 and we just rely on what information the case status gives??
