If you're military, apply for a Military Star Card. I did that, and I've been in the USA since April and my credit score is 682...for some reason. >_>

I would bring any sort of proof that you have, bring a copy of your NOA1 (it shows that you are doing this the legal way), do you have a job? If so, get your employer to write a letter stating when they expect you back. I actually never had evidence when I traveled on a CR-1 visa (I was 19, and most likely a higher risk). Just be honest, polite and respectful to the officers. I'm sure you will be fine. Goodluck. :)

My best friend moved to South Korea this spring to teach English for a year. Given all the things that are going on... I'm so worried about her :(

I pray your friend will be safe and that nothing happens while she's over there. Apparently, North and South Korea have...little ''smirmishes'' a few times a year, and then they both retreat back to lick their wounds..:s

CanadaWhat do you miss most about Canada

I miss perogies, poutine, M&M meat shop and of course my family. :P

Also I miss calgary transit - the public transport in my area is lacking and I'm nervous about riding my bike around as well. I had pretty good access to everything where I used to be. Still need to get a drivers licence, but can't until I get my employment authorization or green card.

I'm from Calgary too, I miss it so much. Public transportation is non existent here, which forced me to get my license. I miss the china town of calgary, THE DELICIOUS FOOOD. =C

So how long did it take to get your biometrics appointment letter? I'm getting antsy, it's been almost a month since I applied.

I guess I'm antsy because work is sending me to San Diego for a week in the middle of July and I have a trip planned to Canada for a week in August.

BTW, am I able to travel to Canada before getting biometrics? I've read conflicting things.

It took me about a month after the NOA1 to get my Biometrics letter. I personally would not travel until Biometrics because when I got the appointment letter, my biometrics are 2 weeks from the date. I guess it also depends on how long you'll be gone for...xD

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

you were born outside Canada to a Canadian parent on or after January 1, 1947

* A birth certificate which lists your parents (issued by responsible government authorities in the country where you were born)
* Proof that one or both of your natural parents were Canadian citizens when you were born
* Two (2) pieces of personal identification, such as a driver’s licence and a health insurance card, one of which must have your photo on it.
* Other documents, such as a marriage certificate/divorce certificate and/or a legal name change certificate (if applicable)

I think that number one and two would be a birth certifcate. a passport and a birth certifcate or ssn should work for number 3 and number 4 would be nothing as the baby will be too young to be married or divorced (little player lol)

Alright looks like we got it all figured out lol I of course will have to find a notary a few months from now as Idont want to send original stuff.

I sent, birth certificate of my LO, my birth certificate, and then I sent his SSN and his Healthcare. :o
They also mentioned that they want the baby to be old enough to at least hold their head up. They don't want anything in the photo that isn't supposed to be there.

awe he is absolutely adorable and tiny!!
He was a bit early but he looks pretty healthy.. IS he a jaundice baby? I know They made dylan stay for almost a week because of that. I hope he is a healthy and happy baby!

I am sure the next few days go fast for you and you will have him home in no time. Hang in there! COngrats again

They said he's VERY healthy considering everything he has gone though. And yeah, he did have jaundice. I apparently live in one of the highest points in the US...and I had jaundice as a kid too, but I don't know if that amounted for his. And they said he's VERY healthly. :) So I'm very blessed.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Im new to this thread and im currently waiting still for the packet3 to arrive and currently 18weeks pregnant.I was freaking out when i found out that there will be a long wait to get the interview date in montreal. Now, i dont care at all for i decided to have the baby born here in canada. i know there will more stuffs to do after the baby born in canada and it means delays for us to go to US.i kinda like the things here in canada, going to see the doctor, just show the healthcard and i dont know how it works over there in US.My fiance have insurance which i think will not be a problem if i will have the baby there but what the insurance will cover i dont know.I dont like to get out of the hospital in debt so i think its better to have the baby here.
does anyone can help me what will i do or what documents to prepare so the baby can get american passport once the baby born? I plan to send the doctor's letter together with the documents for the packet3 so either the consulate an schedule my interview before my due date which will be on May 2011 or after my due date.
by the way, congrats to those who just have their babies. they are adorable.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Having had a kid at 21, I wouldn't recommend so young - of course, you have done the deed so that is neither here nor there. I was 2/3 of the way through college at the time and I ahve never had the time to finish since and I regret that. Everything changes with a baby - no matter what people tell you, your life and it's priorities change.

The bonus is that at 40, I have a 19 yr old and I will be a young grandma :)

Yeah, the deed has been done, and right now I'm worry about whether or not I'll do college but it's not really easy to get a loan for school as an immigrant so I think I'll wait until I can get citizenship and once I'm a citizen, my husband will have served 6 years, so he can transfer his GI bill to me. Getting a degree at 30 still isn't bad. I completely adore and love my son to death though, I wouldn't change a thing (mind you, he still has another 3 weeks to go..unless he's early) but I will definitely be taking the nessecary precautions to prevent any pregnancy until at least another 4-5 years.

And yeah, Arabella, I think that's a big part of it. A lot of the men my husband works with, joined simply for the fact that they had kids too young, and couldn't afford them. A lot of this same group, loathe their jobs...which is a shame. I couldn't imagine doing something I hated. ):

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?
I've actually noticed that a lot of people in the US anyway, tend to have kids EXTREMELY young, whether on purpose or out of sheer stupidity. Or maybe I think that because most of the other military wives my age already have 2-3 children, and it completely throws me for a loop. :S I never saw that sort of thing in Canada, or rather, I did, but it wasn't as often or frequent as I see it here.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Since we are a bit older (I am 37 and Si is 36) we don't really have time on our side when it came to kids. We both knew that we really wanted them, and have been waiting a long time to have them, so the choice was pretty easy. I stopped using BC pretty much as soon as we decided to start the K1 process (not that we had great odds of getting pregnant when we only saw each other once every month or 2!!) There will always be a million reasons to put off having kids, and I don't think you are ever 100% ready, and no matter what stage of life you are in there are always things that you are going to need to sacrifice. We could have waited a bit longer and paid our last little bit of debt, waited until Si got a promotion and we could have bought a house first, but it didn't happen that way. There have been some tough times, but we have made it through, and things are getting better every day. I had hoped to be able to go back to school for a career change, but with a little one that is going to be a bit harder (especially since we do want another and probably won't wait too long before starting to try again). But I am sure somehow it will work out. It may take a bit longer, but I will get there eventually.

As bad as it may sound, I think my parents are the main reason why I opted to ''try'' and have kids earlier in life as opposed to most of my friends. I'm nearly 21 and my mom is almost 58, my dad 56. My grandparents, god the bless the ones still alive, are in their 80's+. As much as I'd dreamed of having children in my late 20's to early 30's, I feel like it wasn't an option to me. I want my son to get to know my family, along with my husbands, but it's slightly harder with mine...(my mother is 13 years older than my husbands mother.) And my preggo brain is not really letting me form a complete thought...and its 730am...but my parents age was a big thing for deciding. But yeah, you'll never be 100% ready. Thank god, my husband has a career and can support me and the baby on one paycheck. I'm hoping to start college in the fall of 2011 or spring 2012, it all depends. I doubt I'll be trying for another anytime soon though, one grandchild is enough for my mother she says. Maybe another in 6 years.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

She is head down, but has not engaged yet, so hubby just tries to get her to migrate that way while telling her to move down and hurry up!! I did a bit of looking today I found the applicateion for proof of citizenship...it is a lot more straight forward. Here is the link to the instructions and form. It looks like you will need a certified copy of the babys' and your long form BC, 2 forms of personal ID (I am assuming you will be able to use the SSN and passport for an infant)and 2 citizenship photos. These are different than passport photo's and there is a document that gives the guidelines for it linked in the instruction packet(the critera is a little more forgiving for infants under 12 months age). The cost is $75. So it looks like it won't be that bad after all.

Wow, that doesn't look too bad, and thank god I have like 3 copies of my long form birth certificate due to US immigration. Or maybe I can...''#######'' around until I go home in August with the baby and see if I can apply for it while I'm in town. Somehow I highly doubt that though -0- I don't know if he's engaged yet, I have one last ultrasound tonight...and then on Thursday I get to figure out if I get to deliever at the military or civilian hospital. ''Yay.''

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Every night now Simon is rubbing my belly trying to encourge her to move downwards...lol His BD is next weekend so he would love to have her as a BD present!!
I looked a little while back for the citizenship and there is a form to fill and send in, but it asks some odd questions. I think it is more geared for people who were permanant residents then got citizenship as it asks several questions about that. I will look into it next week again, and make a few phone calls and let you know what I find out. I definitely want to get it for her...it will make travelling back and forth a lot easier, and we have discussed the possibility of moving back to Canada at some point, so it will be less hassle if that happens.

She's not head down yet? Aww. My son has been headdown and ready to go since week 30 @_@ I guess he's ready to bust out of there. Yeah, I've been looking at the forms and they ask some really odd things. When I was in Calgary this past August, I went to a Canadian Citizenship and Immigration office and they told me that since the baby will be considered a Canadian citizen by birth, that I only have to apply for PROOF of citizenship...>_< But yeah, if you find out, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. (:

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

I have about 2 weeks to go and I am ready for her to get here. I have had a pretty easy pregnancy, but now I find that I am having trouble getting comfy at night....my back and rib cage kill me by the morning. Everyone seems to think that I am going to go early, but something in my gut tells me I will be late. Only time will tell!!

Wow, how exciting! I have..3 1/2 weeks to go! I've had a dreadful pregnancy, which is why I want it to be over with. I can COMPLETELY relate to not being able to be comfortable at night, I can ONLY sleep on my left side. It hurts to sleep on my right, and obviously I can't sleep on my back or stomach. Have you started researching on how to get your daughter Canadian citizenship? I've been looking and I'm so confused.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPassport photos for I-751

You only need to include passport-style photos if you're filing the I-751 from overseas while living abroad on US military/government orders. Otherwise, they take your photo at the biometrics appointment.

Awesome, this is what I wanted to know. Thank you.
