Mexico, Latin & South AmericaVisiting USA from Brazil with a tourist visa
Hi, and thanks for stopping in here to read this.

I have been dating a girl from Brazil and she does have a current and unused tourist visa to come here.

Questions:
Upon her arrival in Chicago, what will they ask her about the purpose of her trip?
Will it matter if she says she is here to be a tourist or to visit me as my girlfriend?
Will they ask her for proof of funds she would require to be a tourist here?
Will she need an invitation letter from me saying I will support her financial needs while here, in the USA?

Am I missing anything here? Thanks Ray

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaMoving back to Brazil

Hi, My name is Raquel  and I am married to Raymond since 2010. I am Brazilian and he is Icelandic, but American citizen since he was 3 years old. We legally married in Las Vegas and we live in Oregon. My husband is thinking about retiring in Brazil. We don't know how to apply for his residency in Brazil, the documents we need, if we need to start the process here or in Brazil He would like to be able to open a checking account there and buy a house in the future. He already has his "social security" card in Brazil.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Raquel

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAny experiences out there with filing for an I-130 after having married in the USA?
Hello and thanks for stopping in to read this post.

Does anyone have experience with using an I-130 either instead of or in addition to a K-3 visa?

I have been on-line dating a girl from Brazil, I went to Brazil to meet her and to be with her in March. I do have all of that documentation She is able to come to the USA on a multiple entry tourist visa. After reading the "Guide" section on here, it seems we could marry here, in the USA, then she should return to her country and we should then file an I-130, NOT a K-3 visa. From the looks of things, this would seem to be a very good route, less forms and time; is this true????

Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of this? If we did this, could she return here on her existing tourist visa while we are awaiting the processing of the I-130?

Thanks so much

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAny US citizen that attended the K-1 interview?
Hi, I have completed this process, my wife is here with a completed AOS now too. I have helped a number of other guys go through this entire mess, bringing their new ladies in from several other countries and I have never heard of anyone being able to attend the interview with their spouse, the AOS interview, yes, of course, but not the original K-1 application interview in her own country. The whole idea of that interview is to interview only the future immigran, alone, not the US citizen applicant at all. This interview is strictly for her, not you. She will be asked a number of questions about you, your life here, your family, how you met, how you communicate, how and when you met in person etc. Have her ready, with photos and all possible documents, receipts etc to prove you guys really are a couple, they will be testing her on this. It's usually easy and very short, unless she doesn't know things like how many brothers and sisters you have, what your favorite food is, what city you live in etc. Then they will make the interview tough.

Good luck, Ray. rraypo@hotmail.com

I was just curious if there was any VisaJourney folks (who are U.S. citizens) who have attended their fiancée's K-1 interview...

If so, how'd that go?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed a little reassurance :(
Hi Cat. Yes, the system works, it just sucks.
My now wife came out of China, one of the slowest countries to deal with. From the time I first filed my K-1 until she was here was about a year and a half. Ting has been in the US now for 11 months and our AoS happened only one month ago in Portland, Or. All went well, just slowly. Trying to phone for any information always proved useless as did Emails. So, jsut relax, it all takes time. Ray rraypo@hotmail.com

Guess Im just looking for a little reassurance from you timeline gurus and advice if there is anything I should be doing now to check on it, make sure it isnt lost etc. Otherwise guess its back to counting the flowers on the wall and playing solitaire.

Thanks in Advance
Cat

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresKenya, any secrets or good info?

Wait wait, why was the EAD only good for 8 days?

Hi, I could not begin to tell you. As I said, I tried to call the process center for their help, that was a joke.

At our AoS interview in Portland, I asked that really nice woman there too about the dates on her card and she had no idea. She told me that their system has lots of cracks without rhyme or reason and that often things just happen. She told me that at the process center for all of our applications, the people that work there are all in one big room, earning minimum wage, and have all of our stuff all spread out on big tables as they go through it together. In so doing, I was told by her that a lot of "mistakes" happen and often things get lost or simply overlooked.......Great

By the way, our AoS interview was great and the people at the Portland office have it all together. They were the only easy and organized part of this process.

So, the bottom line was that my wife's work card was issued with an expiration date off 11 days after it was put into the mail to us, it took that card only days to reach us and then we had 8 days to use it until it expired.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresKenya, any secrets or good info?
 Hello all! I'm Ray in Oregon and yes, I've been married, (last Valentines day), here now to a great girl from China. We completed our AoS in Portland last month. That alone took about 10 months. In fact, completing our K-1. Yes, it all takes time, but it does work. While waiting for our AoS interview, I applied for a work permit for my wife. We got it 5 weeks later, but it was only valid for eight days. Yes, I did say 8 days, what a joke. So, we continued to wait for her AoS and it came.

Now then, :help:

I have just learned that a friend of mine here in Oregon has been E dating a girl from Kenya for almost two years yet they have not yet met. Yeah, I know, they really need to do that. Neither has any kids or other issues to complicate things and yes, he has a job and meets the guidelines and both are educated.

I know nothing about dealing with Kenya for any sort of visa stuff. Can anyone offer any good insight? K-1 or K-3 better there?

Would it be better for her to leave and go to another country prior to filing? Like to the Virgin islands, Mexico, Hong Kong, etc. The theory being that it would be easier to deal with that Government having British ties rather than her own which may or may not be so friendly towards her visa.

I have read that Kenya is diffult to get out of and into the USA, is that true?

I have heard that work or student visa's from Kenya are all but impossible to obtain, is that also true?

My friend is very new to this and I feel like I am starting over and yet I have done this for myself and my wife already just from another country. Every country and situation is so different.

Thanks so much, Ray

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresissues with having a fiancee from a latin american country??

Hi, Columbia is a pretty easy place to deal with. Trust me, many other places, China for example are much more difficult. You will have nothing extra to take care of, only the usual.
In talking about your financials, our government is strict, right to the end. If you are close, get a co-sponser from the start. Write if I can help. I have helped several guys from a few different countries. Ray

Hey all, I am a first time poster here and just wanted to say thank you for all the information on this site, it is truly amazing. I am 25 years old, living in California and my girlfriend (soon to be fiancee)is living in Colombia. We started off by the internet and met in peru about two weeks ago and all went PERFECT! We really are in love with each other smile.gif Anyways, I was wondering if there are any posters here that have got married with someone from Latin America and if they had received delays in the process because of extra background checks or whatever. My girlfriend is from Colombia so I am worried that they will really be hard on us throughout the whole process of her becoming my wife. I am also wondering how important the income part is of getting the visa because I have enough for the process, that is no problem, but for the adjusted gross on my tax return could be a problem. I have financial stability, and know I can provide for my girlfriend, but I only make about $15000 a year. I am a little worried that that is not enough to become a sponsor for her..if anyone has any more information for me, please let me know! Thank you so much, and sorry for the general questions, I am just getting started on the process and learning more and more everyday so I hope you all can bear with me hehe good.gif
