CanadaWe Have An Interview Date!!!!!
Friday the 13th has turned out to be a gloriously lucky day. We received our pkt 4 with an interview date for Montreal. That date is June 29. Will book my medical on Monday. Looks like I will be spending from Thurs to the following Weds in Montreal. We are soooo excited.

CanadaCIBC SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get a no fee account. I have one for when travelling to USA. You are allowed two transactions free per month and there is no fees at all on teh acct. Its with Royal Bank.

I feel your pain. I recently paid off my Canadian credit card and did not activate the new card that came in the mail ocne the old one expired.

I can't wait to be finished paying off my student loans so I can just close my Canadian account! I hate that I have to pay a fee every month for an account I use to make 2 payments on!

CanadaCanadian Credit
I understand that both credit bureaus are now connectedd and your credit follows you to the USA when they do a credit check,

Jeff and I are looking to buy new cars. His car from Canada still has a loan against it and his bank is being a huge PITA about a payoff and trying to get it taken care of.

My main question is, I know I've seen on here that Canadian credit doesn't follow when you come to the US. How true is that? And, if he were to default on his car loan, how much of a problem would that create?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

CanadaNeed direction in Montreal
Thank you, thank you. I may be in touch.

I would suggest using STM's site to figure out how to get places as it's the official website for public transportation in Montreal. The home page can be found here: http://www.stm.info/...ish/a-somm.htm# They have a feature where you can plug in your departure and arrival locations and it'll tell you which buses to take and such. This feature can be found here: http://www2.stm.info...ndex.php?lng=en For destination, plug in: PIERRE ELLIOT TRUDEAU [AEROPORT], RU AEROPORT DORVAL (Dorval). A dropdown will appear with one option, click on it. For the arrival, put in: 500, rue Sherbrooke Ouest (Montréal). Two options will appear, click the one that has "ouest" in it as that's where Medisys is located. Then choose 9:30am as your arrival time and choose the 22nd as your date. A map will then be given to you with 3 options. You take the 747 bus first, then you have an option of 3 buses to get to Medisys. Then just take the same buses on the way back to the airport.

For the second trip, just use the site again to plug in your departure and arrival. Again, departure is: PIERRE ELLIOT TRUDEAU [AEROPORT], RU AEROPORT DORVAL (Dorval). Select the option that drops down. For the arrival, plug in: 400, boul. René-Lévesque Ouest (Montréal). Two options will pop down, select the one with "ouest" in it. That's the hotel. I'm not sure what time you're arriving, but hopefully you do :P It looks like the 747 bus brings you right to the hotel (with a little bit of walking). Then for the way back to the airport, just do the same thing but backwards.

I would suggest asking the bus driver to tell you when to get off. Most of the bus drivers are really nice and will help you. Hopefully you get one that speaks English. Or write down on a paper what street you need to get off and/or what bus you need to take and they should know, whether they speak English or French. Also, when I've taken trips in Montreal without having ever taken that bus, I look at nearby streets for when I have to get off before I leave and then keep an eye out when I'm on the bus. That's worked a bunch of times for me before. Another idea, Google Maps has this cool feature (if you haven't heard about it) called street view. I would suggest using it for the location where you have to get off and on and remember the surrounding buildings. I've also used this method A LOT.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. I lived in Montreal forever and I used public transport a lot, so I know my way around :)

CanadaNeed direction in Montreal
YAYYYY it is finally June and I have my medical on the 22nd and interview on the 29th. I have been trying to research how to get from the airport to first Medisys for the medical (22nd) then from the airport to du Centreville Hotel (28th). I went back through posts regarding this but they are all from a year or more ago. I know there is a shuttle from the airport. Its an $8.00 ride. Can anyone direct me as to where to get off and how to get from the stop to the medical and back to catch it again???? I am going alone from Alberta, don't speak French and hate to get lost. I am thinking of taking my GPS and set it to walking but the thing has gotten me lost before while driving. I arrive in Montreal at 7:10 a.m., have medical at 9:30 and need to catch my plane home at 2:00 (I think) p.m. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

CanadaGirlfriend denied at POE. Canada to US
I have had a few experiences crossing and not all good ones. My husband came across once with a one way ticket. He was asked at border why and he said he was visiting and didn't know how long he would be staying, they asked if he had a job (yes), a home (yes) and how much money he had available on his credit cards (apparently he had enough cause they gave him a six month visa)!!!! No such luck with me. I had quit my job and him and I were driving to Arizona. I was going to stay for the winter. When we got to the border they didn't like what I had in the car (they said too much stuff) so they gave me the option of turning around and going home or go to Arizona for 5 weeks. I had a date I had to recross the border with everything I had in my car. I did that and when I got back to Canada, three weeks later I turned around and flew down. At the Calgary airport I was again hauled into the customs office with an officer. I had a return ticket but was in three months. I lived with my sister, had no job. the only ties was my family and kids. I should point out that at this time we had gotten engaged just three weeks previously) They made me miss my plane. After hemming and hawing for one hour I showed them a letter from my fiance. He had written that he was able to care for all my needs while I was in the USA. It showed where he worked, his address and proof he owned his own home and his ties. After the border guard read that he let me go (had to sit around the airport another 8 hours for the next flight). I was allowed to stay the 3 months. Since that time and our filing of the CR1 I haven't had any more problems with crossing. Maybe do up a letter similar to the one I had.

CanadaOne week to go!!!
By this time next week I will be home again from having the medical. I am stressing a little over this damn Air Canada strike. It doesn't bother me when you aren't flying but it certainly does now. I leave at 1:30 a.m. next Weds and have my medical appointment at 9:30. I have had to have someone cover my shift at work, as I was going to leave work at 11 p.m. and go right to the airport but now they are saying get there plenty early in case of delays and such. Then again on the 28th I fly to Montreal to pick up results of medical and stay the night, then have interview at 8 a.m. on the 29th and fly home that afternoon. I am hoping that the picket lines will allow the pilots and such to get through. I guess they already had a day in Montreal where no one crossed the picket line. I have to be able to get home to work. At least my days off are Thurs and Friday so I have a couple of days leaway if I have to. Anyone else have their interview on June 29th or am i the only one?????

CanadaCanada Passport Renewal - Maiden Name OK?
I just renewed my passport and got it back two weeks ago. I added my married name to the passport. I had to fill out the long form. The renewal form is only if everything on the passport is the same. You have to do the full form for change of name. I was told it would take 3 weeks to receive it back but got it about 10 days later. Hope this helps.

I've seen these types of questions searching the forum, but all of them seemed a bit more complicated than my our situation here.

Anyway, so my wife had her passport for a good 10 years now (or whatever the duration is for one) and we just realized it's going to expire by the end of the month. On her passport she has her maiden name, of course, and we were wondering if she can use the Adult SIMPLIFIED RENEWAL Passport Application (Form: PPTC 054) and just renew with her maiden name again. Or would this provide issues with her CR-1? We're a bit pressed on time seeing as we just got our NOA2 about 2 months before we expected it! (Yay!! But gotta move our butts into gear now! lol)

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

I hear ya. I want to book the damn moving truck for July 21. Hubby flies in on the 14th. Visa had better be there by the 21st. It says in our passports that if your passport is taken by another agency other than the Canadian govt and is withheld ( such as getting a visa) for any amount of time to contact the Canadian passport office or the police. Wonder if we took that route we would get it any faster.

hmm my Interview is June 27th (My birthday! ha ha)... Im hoping to get my visa quick.. Id like to be with hubby by the 12th of July... but now Im starting to wonder...

Hi. Are you flying in the night before the interview??? Iam so that I can pick up my results of my medical on Tues and be at the doors of the embassy at 7 .am. on the 29th. Maybe see you there. We all have to stay postiive that we will be the lucky ones who gets our visas back fast.

Hi,
Our interview is on June 29th, just a "quick" drive flight from British Columbia to the convenient Embassy.

All sarcasm aside. I'm getting nervous hearing how long its taking for people to get their Visa. I had never heard that part of the process taking that long so already made plans.

Thanks to everyone who applied. I sure hope my visa comes quickly after the interview on the 29th. Hubby has booked his flight here on july 14, we are renewing our vows on the 16th and hope to hit the road on the 21st. Its hard to even book a truck without knowing when the visa will arrive. I haven't run across anyone else who's interview is on the same day as mine so guess I am on my own. Good luck to everyone. I head to the airport tomorrow night to catch the red eye to Montreal for my medical.

NCV closed the case and three days later we got the email for an interview in 6 weeks. The interview was set up from NVC and then they sent it to Montreal.

Just wondering about the time frame between NVC and an interview. Our case was just sent to Montreal but I haven't seen any posts about July or August interviews in Montreal (CR-1).

Best of wishes on your interview!!

CanadaJune Montreal Interviews
So my interview is on June 29th. I have booked Hotel Du Centreville. Just wondering if there are any other VJers out there who have interviews on same day. As I am coming to Montreal alone from Alberta it would be nice to hook up with others. I am flying in on the 28th to pick up results for medical before interview.

CanadaDS-230 vs DS-260
We were required to do the DS-260 online. Apparently Montreal cannot access the form so when arriving for interview you are asked to fill out the DS-230. I could not print off my DS-260 but printed off the DS-230 and have it already filled out for my interview on Weds. Should save some time with it already filled out (I hope anyway). We are doing the CR1 Visa.

Does anyone know if DS-260 has now replaced DS-230? I'm looking to send off my paperwork to Montreal and was wondering which form needs to be completed??

CanadaBeginning of the End
Well tonight is the beginning of the end of my visa journey. It has been a long 10 months since the beginning. First applied early Sept 2010, seemed like it would never end. Now tonight after work I head to the airport and fly to Montreal. Tomorrow I pick up my results from the medical (hope they are approved)!!! Bright and early Weds morning I will be at the embassy for the interview. I just hope I have everything I need. Have gone through the checklist time and time again and have what they asked for. Now how much extra does one bring??? If everything goes well, hubby comes on the 14th and we leave to cross the border on the 22nd of July. Can it really be happening???? Am starting to get a little nervous but excited at the same time. Thank God for VisaJourney. I have learned lots from everyone on here, its so nice to know you are not alone in this process.

CanadaJust for fun...when is the next time you're going "home" to Canada?
I haven't even left Canada yet, hopefully moving to Arizona in july. I will be back the end of September tho for the birth of my first grandbaby, a girl. I am sooooo looking forward to it. I will be staying with my son and his wife for two weeks to help with the new arrival.

I never sent in any documents. I opted in for email service so never sent any originals to NVC. I sent them electronically so had to present the originals at the interview which were all given back to me there.

Congrats on your sucessful "Visa Journey"!!!!!

I'm coming up on July 19th so your info is great review.
One question: on your Montreal Consulate review, you said they asked for originals of certain documents; I had to send all my originals in to NVC and they are forwarding them to the Consulate. Yours was different and I was wondering why because we are applying for the same type of Visa.
Just trying to figure this one out.....
Thanks and good luck!!

It wasn't actually 6 mos. It went to NVC On Dec 31, 2010, we got our IV bill but held off paying for a month, then we got the interview letter on May 13, 2011. We also got a few RFE's from them to resend things in. So it was just over 4 months at NVC. Would have been 3 mos if paid bill sooner. All the other time it was in thier hands out of our control.

Congratulations on your approval...

I am so anxious to get this going!!

One question... I see you were at NVC for a long time (6 months) was there a reason (if you don't mind me asking...)? I am currently preparing my paperwork and packages to the best of my ability and want this to go as fast as possible! :bonk:

Thank you! Congratulations once again!!!

I wanted to put in a few things that happened in Montreal when I arrived for my interview. First off I was staying at Tour du Centreville hotel which is right across the street from the consulate. Medysis had told me to phone before coming to pick up my medical results so i phoned from the airport. She couldn't find them!!!! That caused a bit of stress. After 10 mins on hold she came back on and said they were there. Whew!!! So I figured since I had time I would check out the 747 bus route. I talked to the driver and he said there was a stop a block from the hotel. It would be stop #7 and they announce it. So on the bus I go. There was two guys sitting beside me, one asked me if I knew were I was going? I said I didn't have a clue. They were from Sydney Nova Scotia. The driver had told me which stop i needed but after about 5 mins my mind went blank and couldn't remember other than stop 7. I noticed a women lower in the bus with a map of the bus route so went and asked her if I could see it. She was from Saskatchewan!!! She was to get off at the same stop as me. Well with all the windows open and the noise of the bus, when they made announcements you could barely hear him. The guys beside me said I think they just announced your stop. But I looked out and saw the stop but he went right on by!!!! Sheesh, now what? Someone else on the bus said you have to push the button. None of us thought of that!!! so we got off at the next stop and the lady stopped a guy on the street and asked him to help us find out way. He was very helpful and pointed us in the right direction. so if you are staying at that hotel, get off at the Jeanne-Mance stop, go south one block and the hotel is right there. I would recommend the bus to anyone staying along Rene Levesque Blvd. Got to the hotel and they people behind the desk were very friendly and helpful. They pointed out the Consulate and told me how to get to Medysis. Go South to third set of lights, cross the street and walk up 5 blocks to Sherbrooke, turn right and about a block is the medical office. When I got there again they said they couldn;t find my results!! Then she said oh here they are, please take a seat and she took them to the back. Of course the mind is playing tricks again at this point, "now what can be wrong?" "did they find something and the Dr has to talk to me?" ####### like that. Unnecessary stress. After about 5 mins she called me up, handed me the package, said don't open it and I was out of there. Found lots of little shops to shop in along the way back to the hotel.

The room itself at the hotel was good. The room smelled musty when I got in, so just opened the windows and it disappeared. The room, especially the bathroom, was extremely clean. It was no Hilton Hotel but I was comfortable, got some food and ate right there. It had a kitchen, dining area and sitting area. I slept like a log so the bed was comfortable. Overall a good experience.

Oh when returning to the airport, I went back to the Jeanne-Mance stop, went to get on the bus, the driver asked where I was going, I said airport so he said you have to catch it on the other side of the road. So over I go, next bus, get on, hand him my ticket from the day before because the ticket is good for 24 hours, so so I thought. He said no good as it had to be within the same day, not over two days!!! So got off the bus to get change as they only take exact 8.00. I dug in my purse, found the change and caught the next one to the airport. They come about every 10 mins.

I hope this helps anyone else setting off for Montreal.

Canadaeyeglasses for Medical
I had my medical in Montreal last week. I need reading glasses but never used them except to flll out a form. Just read an eye chart. Dr went over my medical history, listened to chest, looked at breasts for 2 secs, looked in ears and throat and poked my belly. Nurse took blood, read eye chart, height and weight, went for two pics for chest exray and that was all. No checking sex or anything. Didn't need any immunizations. I had taken blood tests with me to show for measles and mumps and chickenpox, they didnt' even want those.

CanadaPolice Checks Will Take 6 Weeks
When I did mine, Edmonton told me the same thing. So I went outside to Sherwood Park, it took a week. If I lived in Sherwood Park it would be instantaneiouly. I paid like 50.00 for mine but had it within the week. Go to Okaotoks, Airdrie, Cochrane or someplace instead of Calgary.

Hey, I was wondering if any of you have tried to get the police check or police clearance in Calgary before and what I need to say to them exactly. I just went yesterday to put in a request for a police information check (that's what they called it).

I had to fill out a yellow form that asked me pretty basic stuff like my name, birth date, purpose of the request (I checked 'immigration'), whether I've been convicted of a crime (No) and when I handed the form to them, it was $30 and the woman at the booth told me it'll take around six weeks to get it mailed back to me. Which shocked me and I thought that was strange. I wanted to ask her to clarify but she was very busy and had someone itching to get whatever he needed to get done right after me.

So I shuffled out of there perplexed as to why a name check on someone with no record would take six weeks when everyone else here seems to be able to get their police clearance in a day or two unless you requested a check that involves fingerprinting. Did I fill out the wrong form? I'm going to try to call a different station later this week when I've got time, but I wanted to know if this six weeks thing is standard for Calgary, if the woman at the booth misunderstood me, or if I filled out/requested the wrong thing.

CanadaMontreal Medical-a few questions
Not to worry. I went armed with a ####### load of past medical stuff (have had three heart attacks), plus past surgeries which were more than the normal person has in a lifetime (16 since 2000). I had a letter from Dr ready. All the Dr. in Medysis asked was "is everything okay since last heart attack?" I said yes. He never asked me another question. He wrote down any major surgeries I had (I had made up a list and attached it to the form they give you when you arrive to fill out), no questions. I came home with everything I went with and passed. They are mainly looking at communicable diseases, not stomach or heart issues. i too suffered from depression years ago, he never even went there at all. The actual medical itself was listen to lungs, looked in throat and ears, pushed in on stomach and that was it!!!! You will do fine.

oh also, i know this is a lot of questions im just SO worried! Can anyone give me a glimpse into the question they ask at the medical? Will my past of 10 years ago really come back to bite me in the butt?

I'm sorry that Candy's experience was a not so good one. My room was very clean at La Tour, and especially the bathroom!!! Had a small kitchen in it with a microwave. The TV was a little smaller than I'm used to, but I still managed to see Grey's Anatomy!!! (haha)... The staff was very friendly, and I prefer a harder matress than a soft one, so my bed was fine. I also don't think I could've gotten any closer to the Consulate, a 2 min walk!! A few people I have met who also went to Montreal, they all stayed there too, they recommended it to me. Everyone said the same thing: Its not the Ritz, but its clean and it will do for a night or two and very close!!!!

I'm another one that stayed at LaTour Centreville with no complaints. I wanted to be close to the consulate and within walking distance of the shuttle from the airport without paying an arm and a leg, and this fit the bill. I appreciated the locked luggage room that I was allowed to use and the kind staff.

CanadaHow long to print and mail
Don't forget us. We are way behind you. Interviewed June 29, told at DOS sent out July 7. No word anywhere from anyone. I don't know what to do next. Husband is going back to Phoenix as now we can't get a truck until earliest Aug 2. Spend 1000 getting him here and home again. 15 business days and nothing in my hands and no one to contact to find out what to do next. Even the Senator's office isn't calling back anymore.

Triple post ftw. Ive been calling daily. DOS doesn't help sadly.

Cant figure out why people are moving so quick compared to us.

CanadaLost Passport
This is not sounding any better. The problem here is with getting in touch with people. The numbers we are given are general numbers, not where you can talk to someone who knows someone. I am, in the back of my mind, thinking it is still at the Consulate but of course the number you call can only book appointments. I found the call centre is no where near the Consulate or attached in any way. They gave me a general number at the Consulate but it says right on the answering service "you can no longer talk to a person". yesterday the Senator said she would get us a waynumber but after three calls back to her she never called us back. A little ticked about that one. We seem to have no recourse here. I feel like I am being held hostage as I can't leave my country if I wanted to. Now it is looking like my husband will have to fly home, airfare expense, then I will have to drive the truck myself if we ever get this settled. I may have to go back to work to pay to live until then. It is all very stressful. Its 17 business days but in reality days its been 25 days since my interview and acceptance.

The problem is, the do not open packet is the entire petition paper copy. If thats gone its a HUGE HUGE issue. They mail the don't open packet with the passport. Not just the OPs passport is missing..

CanadaLost Passport
Business Day 15 since my interview. Senator said yesterday that DHL has my passport but it did not arrive today. We phoned back to Senator's office, was told she will get right on it but no response back since. Now hubby is thinking he might as well head home and get another week's work in. We checked on the moving trucks. We can get one tomorrow or Sunday but as of Monday nothing for a week. Now what???? There is no one to contact to find out what to do next. Do I declare my passport lost???? I have emailed the consulate IV unit, they do not deal with lost passports. DHL will not even look for a passport, that according to DOS was picked up July 7, without a waybill number. The Consulate has not put up a waybill number. If I declare it lost do I have to start all over again? Do I make an appt at the Consulate, put out the money again to fly to Montreal for them to put in a new visa??? I will have to try and get my old job back to save up for next three months to pay for all this #######.

Well I'll be damned. Found my spam folder but unfortunately nothing from DHL. that doesn't surprise me. Now waiting for the elusive email from them saying its ready for pickup. DHL says if they have it, it would have been overnighted last night and should be here this morning. Again we wait. thanks for this bigbigblake.

GMAIL most definitely has a spam folder. Make sure you check it.

On the left side it will list your in box and any other tags you have created.

Down at the bottom it will say something like "5 more".

Click on this, then choose spam.

This is why we like GMAIL so much, they have an awesome spam system, but sometimes its to good.

I have sent an email, talked to them a half dozen times (they didn't even know about DOS), and tried to talk to DHL, and i don't have a spam or trash folder in Gmail. But as of today the Senators office called and they have somehow tracked down my passport. It was picked up by DHL July 7 (consulate has no record of it)(obviously someone at the Consulate did not do their job and put in a waybill number) and is still sitting with them at DHL in Montreal. It is supposed to be overnighted tonight and i should have it in hand tomorrow. We phoned DHL after she called and they still say we have no way of tracking without a waybill number. Funny how someone from Govt can get it but the little peon it belongs to can get nowhere. So we will see if it arrives tomorrow, if not the Senator said to call them back.

Not to sound insensitive, but have you tried sending an email to montreal-iv-dv@state.gov? Also, please check your "Spam" folders just in case the email somehow slipped through. I've had DHL return my passport once and they call your cell phone number the day it is ready to pickup. Chances are that it is stuck somewhere in the Montreal consulate itself. I won't pretend to understand what you're going through, because it's hard to be in a situation like this. But it sometimes helps to have some faith and hold on for another week to ten days before you proceed to apply for a new passport. Once my passport got delivered to the wrong address (Canada Post's fault) and it took 35 days after the wrong delivery for the passport to be returned back to me.

I'd recommend writing a polite email explaining the situation to the Montreal folks. If they did send it out, they MUST have a record of the same. Either a Waybill number or a Shipment Number or something. I'm assuming that you've already logged into your account on http://usvisa-info.c...lfservice/login and checked for information pertaining to DHL?

I really hope you get your passport back. Good Luck, and please keep us informed!

Update: Still no passport. I don't know whether to laugh, cry or have a stroke. No word from the Senators office and nobody wants to help. Consulate says call DHL, DHL says call Consulate. The passport is flying around somewhere. DOS says it was picked up July 7 (don't know who picked it up).

Thanks. Its Senator McCain so we will see how good he really is so Ed can vote for him in next election. LOL

Good solution!! Senators like easy ones like this, lol Good luck

Ed told DOS while talking to them that "well someone had to have put "sent out july 7" into the computer somewhere!!!" they had no answer to that.

Hmm I bet you its sitting in Montreal mail room under a huge pile somewhere then...

And I bet the consul is just saying they don't have it or " sent it " but haven't even bothered to search the mail room to see if it even went out or got stuck under a pile somewhere.

Thanks. I too was looking ofr similar stories on VJ. Found a couple. I did go to DHL.ca and put in the reference number, comes back as nothing matches which tells me DHL does not have it. So now the consulate doesn't have it, DHL doesn't have it. Phoned canadian passport office they say nothing can be done as its in the USA's hands!! If it never shows up then declare a lost passport and get a new one. Are they kidding me???????

Its very likely your passport is sitting in the Consuls mail room.

I remember someone saying you should get a receipt number online and then use that on DHL.ca not DHL.com. Not a waybill number but a receipt number. and I cant find the thread... somewhere in the Canada section. Try looking on the login where you go to book DHL and see if there is some kind of other receipt number than waybill.

With all this runaround, my husband decided to call the Senetors office in Phoenix. There is one of his aides working on it as we speak. She says that has been wayyyyy too long and they will get on it. Just sent her a signed release form (had to unpack the printer and cords first!!). Hopefully will hear by the end of the day.

My interview was June 29th. Been waiting for passport to be returned. Phoned DOS this morning and was told it was sent out July 7th. I never got an email and no waybill number for tracking. I phoned the Consulate and they said nothing shows that it was picked up or when. First DHL said the embassy puts up the waybill number, the consulate says DHL puts up the waybill number. So now my passport is either still in Montreal or in Edmonton and nobody knows anything. Any suggestions on what I do next?????? The consolate was no help.
