K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportswe filed I130 (approved ) but our I129 is still in cis with some important documents
well no, the I-130 is not staying behind , thats what's gonna go to the consulate, the I129 is still stuck in CIS as tey are only up to apps filed in December 08.......
they said I can request it be returned to me but could not guarantee anything else such as sending it to NVC.!!???

I had hoped the 129 could have moved, as the NVC said of course they process those faster..... why did I bother getting married ? it has really been a time loss! I just want my husband here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is too late... but you never include originals of anything unless specifically asked for...

These are two different petitions... they will not "marry" at NVC... The I-129F goes to the consulate for processing and the I-130 stays behind

you can also look at the consulate section and do searches for cuba for example.
I had a look and found like you that there are not many married couples around
more fiances around

thank you so much, it really is nice to have someone be interested, I often feel very alone with this , people who are not going thru it sometimes act like it is too much trouble , they just don't know. I am going to take the advice of some people here and go to the interview when ever it happens , it does seem like the safer thing to do. I just wish I could plan ANYTHING, this does take so much time and precious resources.... bless all who share their experience when you take the time to help another it is such a gift. J

whistling.gif yeah I know !!! it so frustrating isn't it? here we are , all complete, just dying to moe on to the next important step we've all been building for and then you call and get the crushing disappointment of no appointment made yet!!! Ay yi yi, I am feeling soooo bad because of this... when they tell you they just don't have any idea when, oh , it is too much. tha's why when I got my new notice of our 129-f approval I flipped , because from what I read it is a different procedure to get your interview, but now I am so confused!!! I really know that the NVC has all of the most important documents already filed so I just want to find out if they are gonna ask for moreof the same or use what they have and said was totally complete?
Maybe Cuba and Jerusalem are a little bit alike , but maybe not, Cuba is an enigma, and I'm half cuban so I should be able to handle it right?!! ha, not!!!! blink.gif by nature I am kicking.gif this person , but with this long long seperation , I am crying.gif more than I should be...

my case was complete July 17,2009 and when i called the nvc at 603 334 0700 they told me they don't have me scheduled for an apt yet unsure.gif
so i am wondering how jam packed the jerusalem consulate is, since thats where my case will be forwarded

how do i post under the nvc??

K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports129f K1 approval following the 130 cr-1 finished at NVC now what?
first/
as far as US citizens go,We have no embassy in Cuba it is an Interest Section and is a part of the "Swiss Embassy" . I know , crazy .... It is unique also in Washington DC, no embassy of their own, but stuck in a little bunker building attached to the embassy of Switzerland. believe me when the US ends the embargo, and re-establishes normal relations wi/ Cuba it will be so different , and We can't wait....
second./ I130 approved first and our case completed at NVC before 129-f this is pretty normal for married persons. K-1 not K3 we are designated Cr-1 and our case will be interviewed in Cuba
Our 129f was fee waived as we already paid the I130, Afadavit of Support, IV processing fees
apparently no other cubans now on VJ are married, all are fiancees. We are married. yes it would have been faster to have filed as fiancee and married here but that was over a year ago.
the NVc says that the cuban consulate is capacity controlled so we wait till.......
I will get the new case number and ask many questions , I would need to have all of our file from our case sent anyway
as it has all of our documents, we do not have any more certified copies to give, they have all of them.
sometimes VJ members answer questions, other times its hard to know what to ask for. thank you. j

I am a little confused by your timeline
you are talking about embassy in Cuba and at the same time your timeline says switzerland
your I130 was approved first and then your I129F got approved later? how weird?

where do you anticipate interview for K3? ?
where do you anticipate interview for I130? Cuba?

for K3, NVC just forwards to the embassy and embassy then contacts you
K3 and I130 have different case numbers
I would not expect NVC to use your I130 papers

if you go K3 now you may lose your fee and all your efforts at completing at NVC stage.
are you hoping the K3 scheduling will go faster and then get used for I130 instead?

suggestions
- post under NVC thread instead of K3
- ask other cuban for advice on scheduling
- call NVC operators for question
- wait for interview scheduling

Well congrats on the approval and I hope you get a quick interview date. Good Luck! smile.gif

NO! I am gonna stick with the CR-1 that is already completed and in line for the interview scheduling, what they told me was that I would have to pay all the fees again and go thru the whole process of making the file, they have all our original copies!, noway I can do that.... this does make you crazy doesn't it? wacko.gif I just don't know what to think anymore! blink.gif

K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportswhat the NVC says to do about 129-fs after your I130 cr1 is completed
today when i called to see if my new case had been assigned a number, I spoke to a supervisor who was VERY NICE. This was after speaking to someone who was very not nice, terse, impatient, and could not answer the question of what should i do next. Yes i understand they talk to thousands of people who are not all informed and ask some dumb questions, well then get a new job if you can't be ok with it. Most of us are honest, sincereand willing to spend everything we have to bring our families together , that's as my friend Ms. Martha says, "a good thing..." SO I was told on Friday July 24 star_smile.gif email about my 129 approval to "Follow the instructions on the NOA2" when i received it. So my question was , since I had a already paid for all of the fees, what did they want? And the answer(s) were... that the cases were COMPLETELY separate , and yes would have to file all the docs again and fees etc. Well, since NVC has that all in the fileI asked if that could be sent to the consulate and they said NO> not possible although the 129 was gonna go there. ALL I wanted to know was , which is 1. better, and 2. faster. as we want to be together here asap , not another 6 months from now! so boom, the supervisor came onto the phone and was MUCH much more informative. She said it would be wiser to focus on the completed case which was in line for an interview appt. , and that (listen to this my heart skipped beating)they had already sent an expedite request to the embassy but since they had not received an answer they would send another!! I was so happy and at least i am seeing this as positive! so how confusing it was reading the wiki that is so so well written but then the reality is maybe a little different, nobody tells you you would have to pay twice!! that is crazy!!! so thats my long story , the only way i write. I feel like our luck is turning!!! good.gif good.gif juana

She went to the office and they told her there going to remove the Carta blanca, and add a stamp there...they took her passport, plane tickets and carne. she going to pick up the passport and plane tickes on thrusday, and unfortunatly, they are going to keep the carne. 9 more days until she gets here...i can't wait....Edwin

hey juana, i just wanted to share something i heard about getting married in cuba ( which i dont know wheather it is true or not) ive been told that once you get married in cuba you have to wait two years to bring him to the US, im not sure if this is true, or if what they ask for is two years as "novios" , if you know anything about this please let me know, cause in case that we get denied at the interview im planning to marry him in cuba instead.

No I have heard from many persons now that it is as easy to get a visa for your husband once married in fact sometimes easier as they view it as more committed.
We ( aldeki and I) are actually not applying right away for a visa for him because we don't want to be given the time constraint of having to arrive here in the winter when we both have work and are working on our apartment. But any way, first , you will probably get your visa, I will just pray your interview is wonderful and it all goes through. Second, I could definitely teach a course in how to pay crazy fees to the cuban consulate and know that it is all very hmmmm sketchy but afterwards ud. tiene todos documentos necesarios... muy importante!!!! muchismo problemos sin esos, entonces, en fin tu haces el processo facil o dificil , es igual!!!! ( you need the necessary documents, very important. very many problems without these,in the end you make the process easy or difficult , it is the same!) The important part is that you are prepared to do what ever it takes.. Aldeki and I have wanted to marry and we know his family and mine cannot travel easily. My family here and there is much too complicado! His is en Santiago, and so getting his birth certificate for anything we do means first going there!!! so I worked my self to the bone and decided to go now, because time apart was torture for us and we have a project that needs us both. I will say a few years ago I heard differente about the steps, my morrocan friends did the fiancee visa and it was to their advantage. In cuba, though, a person emmigrating can lose many rights. A married person there has advantages. Our oldest couple friends Susan and Rafael have been 15 years of back and forth, raf is well used a preguntando permiso de el gobierno de Cuba para revisar /condicionar el pasaporte cada ano (por 150.USD$) y es siempre un gran (( mierde))!! But anyway , they go back and forth every year and Rafael works in the US in the summers with Susan and still has a home to return to, so it can happen.... Hope this long blah blahblando helps, I am waiting to go tomorrow and am so full of butterflies that my flights are all good , seeing my husband is all I care about in this world ahora...he is almost crazy waiting too. nice to be so wanted , I am drinking it in!!!!!
best wishes to you and him, I will be asking you questions next time I think! tell me how it goes oK? tu amiga, Juana

**next you can skip this it is only about the process at the CIS consulado , and feesIt was beyond crazy to go to washington, drive 30 hours + there and back and have to go for translations,( all very poorly done but hey.. ) and pay for the cover from the cis 140 per document when the complete rules of the fee structure were being ignored. I would make sure if you need the afadavit of solteria it is inside another document, that way you are paying only once. what I mean is, if you have been divorced or not, you only need one page, the judgement. every page you bring will cost 25.00 the CIS doc fees were 840 for me which I know was an overpayment but once you make the money orders out, they ain't comin' back! the translations/ notarized were 100. the US authentications were 9.00 per doc, wow, and your own sectretary of state is about 10 per. NOW if you mail these to the various places , it is much more per doc , to be an unaccompanied document. BUT the US will mail the docs directly to the consulate CIS for you with the postage... The very scariest part is if you ever mail away your originals ,and especially never mail your passport there, they often have "lost " things for MUCH time, and people end up crazy with worry for good reasons and go there. sometimes it is all about the $ which is hard to face when what you are trying to do is arrange your life with your loved one, sometimes these issues are very very hard to deal with, but patience often wins......
Buena Suerte para todos!!!

Mexico, Latin & South Americanow we know and here we go!
After months and months of trying to find out what was the best way for us to get married, we are there.... I will have to post again after we are both breathing and less tired. We have been so close and so secure that our letters took on an other earthly feel, and reality is far uglier at times. Since we both felt a destiny moment 2 years ago and finally acted on it and found total satisfaction and soul -mate in each other, this has been strong enough to make our plans on. Or as Aldeki says, "you can bet for it always my tati,,,,"
(i love the thread , what does your SO say that makes you smile/laugh)
Any thing he says well almost anything, makes me so happy, we are both equally lucky... any way . I could write all about the procedure for getting married there, and yes it would make anyone look at any other option. It is designed to be crazy making. And expensive beyond compare. Its not the wedding you are paying for , it is just protocol and nothing makes good sense. But es cuba, and the people all pay through the nose for everything, how unfair!!! I will say I drove 18 hours to Washington from my island to wait hours and hours first at the US Authentications office, 9 $ per doc, Barato!! and my secretary of state , also 10 per... after the town notary , free, so in the END, headbonk.gif
the CIS was 140.$ per doc X 2 for the translation!! so 3 docs was 840. 00 and then there was the translator who , no, was not in house as I had been told it might me, but a woman arranging her cousin to do a computer translation, and then run 10 blocs to another notary so at 25. per page..... hmmmmm oh well , at that point after 2 days of no sleep and praying that it ...would go uhmmmmm smoothly.(jejeje!)24 hours before! So, the good part is, tongue.gif tongue.gif star_smile.gif star_smile.gif star_smile.gif star_smile.gif
I get to marry my partner, and he is as happy as I am....We are ready to explode, and I can listen to him say he will be there for me for the rest of my life, it just feels good. So, my journey, bringing Aldeki here when we decide where that here will be, that will begin maybe after we do this. We are lucky we went for his passporte in febrero, and it was only 55,cuc, maybe who knows, he will be one of the men that has a good experience with a wife in Cuba that he can travel and not have to jump through rings of fire. Hope springs eternal. our life is pretty sweet right now... luv.gif heart.gif yes.gif
.....ok so I never had a smiley face op, I'm gonna run with it .....
a very happy woman in love

Mexico, Latin & South Americainternet from cuba?
Hola chica,
the internet has been very good lately from correodecuba, Aldeki writes me daily unless he has a day where he isn't in town and is home in Boyeros, I am thrilled to say i have hundreds of beautiful love notes!! Recently they are much longer and more detailed. And he sends me picture files all the time now of his latest works ( photos)so I know the accessibility de servicios es good. bien entonces,.. My other cubano friends and familia all claim the the mail is frequently picked thru though and so they use little codes for some things and to test. Since I am half cuban maybe none of this is news to me and i try not to let it bother, but once in a while when the mail gets held up for many hours and i am waiting for an answer to a question it is nerve wracking. yes, the amount of people waiting at all tiendas de correo is many and so it always takes un media hora---una hora para esperar... dificil pero mas barato ... The hotels are expensive to use and the service goes down often mid mensage, esa no es bueno! . Since I left in march it has been torture, being here living apart, so hard. Gracias dios we will be together in 2 days!!! And no more internet for us for a while!!!!! We go to the sierrra maestras to be with family and then get married, after that, just work to live and the back and forth will eventually be together not seperate. Time and distance between partners has a meaning all its own, entiende? claro, tu' sabes.... so any way, it is still very good to hear about other couples and to stay connected to sweet people. hope you are well and that spring there is very nice. we finally have leaves and flowers and my gardens are all planted so while I am away they will produce much for others to enjoy. take care, j

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaPacket 3 and the Interview

Also: If he is single and has never been married, does he need additional documentation that he is single?
Yes, he will need a certificado de solteria the same as if you were getting married there in Cuba. It is not too hard to obtain and may even be free ( miracle) but it takes a little time to have it sent, he will do it in whatever town he lives in, ( if the town is large enough) It is signed by the notaria, and if it requires stamps ( cellas) like the certificado de nacimiento which can be gotten at the bank. I don't recall that one needing stamps. Do get his birth certificate translated even if you think you don't need it, for there, and get yours translated to Spanish as well, guaranteed you will need that at some point.... Should you ever have the misfortune to have to go to the Cuban consulate in DC for any thing , and all of us married to Cubanos usually do, it is a nightmare to get done in Washington DC and the person the interest section suggests will take your big money and do the worst job ever!!! I know what you are trying to do as far as help him out by picking up the packet, it s so hard for a cuban to travel to havana from far away and get it all done without much difficulty. For a US citizen also be prepared for hardship , and if it goes well, bueno! DO KNOW that many times the printed material given to you from the Section in Havana is OLD and NOT CORRECT!!!! they have been handing out dated forms that have changed!!! make sure to get the latest copies of all important forms, I know this from experience, because of losing time with some old forms , we are now behind you in our process and should have been moving on to the better part instead of waiting....Hope your sityuation goes very well, I would love to hear more star_smile.gif star_smile.gif if you want to PM me buena suerte!!!!!

Mexico, Latin & South Americamarrying in Cuba, need to certify my documents in US definitely??
hi Barb, this is so old i have been married for over a year now and had my anniversary in Cuba as well!
I did all the right things, went to washington personally, and then en Cuba it was not difficult , just expensive.. altogether the costs i US for all the paperwork were like 800. which included paying to have one document certified by both countries which was a 300.$ waste not necessary rip off at CIS. then the 725. basic including a expedite , another unnecessary fee I would suggest no one do... any way I wish i had sent all those beautiful certified papers directly in to the USCIS for our immigration , by waiting, and getting confused that I might be able to send copies I lost so much time, AND when we were robbed of all our papers in December 08 we really lost months trying to get papers again... so now I am waiting for our interview date and for my beloved to be able to come home...
there is so much not accurate facts about how to do things on the other sites and info thaT pertains better to canadians, and also there are some not so nice folks who give stupid comment like don't do it ,you are opening yourself to a world of iffy and sometimes bad people who ARE CAPABLE OF ANYTHING, just by posting a question, unfortunately I have experienced this , being contacted by gross persons masquerading as in the know and oh so caring.... sorry if this sounds harsh, I have been really burned recently by such a monster. I am not trusting any more and warn people that you may get good answers here and have some compassionate folks who really share the experience with you, but you may also find your life messed with in ways you couldn't imagine... so ... anyway just clearing the space now of that energy, it will be great when the US and Cuba have a normalized relationship so that the info on the official sites is good and always current, and when many more things can be acomplished on line ahhhhh que bueno!!!!!! cuidate. juanita
hi juana,

i hope you don't mind, i posted your questions on to a message board called www cubaamor dot com
(because even if you signed up today, it still takes a few weeks before they permit you to post)

scroll to the bottom where it says "immigration & Laws" and there is a post there i started about you called "lady needs info for wedding in Cuba" give it a day or two and you'll start seeing info. also you can go surf around that site and find out more about marriage to a cuban partner.

I know to have my passport, birth certificate, copies of divorce, and that they will need to be translated ,( probably there but I'll get it done here too)
I want to know if I need to send my papers to who? for what? and what $$ ??? and how fast can it be done.. or if I am there can I just go to the consultaria/notary, spend the 700.$ plus whatever else to expedite ( i think 75.$) (so I am able to get it done and go visit my in-laws without worry of time running out.) and of course then book the time to do the deed and marry my beloved!
any one on this forum (US citizen only) married in Cuba or know someone I can talk with? I have been going crazy reading whatever I can get on the cuban minrex site / of servicios notarias and I still am not sure. the US gov sites are hard to understand for me. Please please help. Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAmerican wanting to marry in Cuba

since the OP is contemplating marriage in Cuba this is certainly not a K-1 visa issue... moving to regional thread

Yes it still is , she needs good information , not a shuffle to some other thread... She just wants to get married for her reasons and go thru the immigration process. I did it that way and I wish I had not , as Maire says , I would probably be happily together with my husband here already! Now I feel stuck, I can't even move on the 129-f I have that was just approved because I would have to pay all over again! is that CRAZY???! so I for sure recommend doing the 129 but , at least lets support another couple , they are in love. and cuba is a tough gig!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAmerican wanting to marry in Cuba
QUOTE (cali92057 @ Jul 27 2009, 10:28 PM) Hello All, I'm from California and I go to Cuba via Mexico. I am planning on moving to Cuba at the end of October and living there for about a year as my fiancee's mother is very ill. We would like to get married in Cuba and then I gather I file for a K-3. I have found that I need all my papers but translated in spanish. All the references keep taking me back to Canada. Posted Image I would like for an American who wed in Cuba to contact me as to how this paperwork s to be done. My fiancee does not live in Havana but about 12 hours away and the largest city near him is Holquin. This process is making me crazy. Posted Image You can reply to me by PM.

Monique
hi I sent you back the message about the translation, as much as you need it for filing for this immigration, get many fully notarized copies.
Ok. I got married last year in Cuba, thinking at the time we would not be in immigration so soon. wrong and now I suffer because of losing so much time and SSSSSSSSSOOOOO much $$. IMHO you should file now immediately for for the 129-f. and when the time arrives months from now he comes here and you marry. If his parents are unwell , I am sorry ,but that will not help you be able to stay en Cuba . after 1 month you must always go to immigration thereand re-do your tourist visa, if you are trying to do a family visa(A-2vs A-1) , it is 40 cuc compared to 25 and if you are thinking that you can change it after one month and just pay the 40 on the back half, no, you will pay 40, and 40 for the 2nd mes, and have lost the 25 you paid already in the shuffle. so it gets expensive. All this gets you is hmmmm what, peace of mind to stay in a relatives house, hmmm only one house is listed tho. SO after that, there is no extension, you must leave the country to re-enter. believe me I do it all the time, and don't ever think the(cuban) government doesn't keep track, they do, perfectly. they have on your computer file ever place you have ever listed on your card or in immigration. I spend days waiting for my papers sometimes its like that.. to marry en cuba para extranjero es muy muy caro... expensive, a waste in many ways. I would have rather had the money for 2 more trips or a mac laptop... or ... the fees of the immigration! As you will see , more people here on VJ are doing the fiancee visa, and I watch them passs me and get their interviews, bring their SO home and marry, I congratulate them and wait.... for my husband, it is very hard to take sometimes. And yes I have family far away in cuba too that we want to visit at least once a year so I think about all the aspects of the visas and how hard it is. I have one married couple friend married for almost 18 years that spends half the year en Habana where they own ( have the papers!!!) of their apt. every year gets harder, and they pay a lot for rafael to re-nter every time... but he says it is worth it all, their life is good and they are together!!! so think about it all, by all means marry just choose where with some background.... Posted Image good luck! we are all here !

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfiling the I-30 need advice
thank you all so much, I am getting there slowly but surely I hope...
Today he emailed a visa style picture, hope it is easy to take it to printer! , THEN i went to a immigration center, and the agent confused me completely by giving me forms that i had not ben told to file right away, He said I should file the 129-f (To use as a K-3 spousal visa app) at the same time as the I-130 , inthre same package , now what does that mean fee wise??? the 130 is 355. and the 129 is 455. I don't have to send both do I? annnd aqldo he said to file the I-485 with this same package even though my husband is there in Cuba and we are just filing now. Does any body know what is up with this? I thought that was done after arrival, and why is it any way? if he is to enter as a permanaent resident don't we have some time on that? I want to do this right and the fastest possible way of course, and because of having our papers stolen we are scrambling to get what we can. I have a photograph taken at the notario en Miramar showing my old birth certificate and other papers that I had my husband take for the records! I will try to enlarge those tomorrow i guess! As for his birth certificate, any new one he gets willl be in cuba any way, not here with our stuff to send, so I am praying the copies of passport, bankbooks, certificate of soltario ( prior to the marriage ) are good. Any thoughts? I am already frantic about doing the support afadavit, I have not done my taxes and have pretty lean pickin's but could show assets If I can get them in order! wow this is hard,..... trying to stay up beat , I can tell its gonna be cuba hard! whistling.gif blink.gif blush.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfiling the I-30 need advice
Hi there,
we are finally filing for Aldeki my Cuban husband to come here after months lost thinking we could live there and do our paperwork from Cuba.... way too hard! So any way, I really need good advice and support as here in US i moved to the South and am starting from scratch. Good news is that my relationship is beautiful as ever and although i hated leaving him again, it is worth everything for us to be able to be here together. Bad news is there, i was robbed right after a trip to immigration and lost all of our identification and important papers so it has been hell trying to recuperate those. What we don't have now is his cuban birth certificate or mine. Are they critical? in the first packet? I have a copy of our marriage certificate, his passport ( copies ) our bank books from cuba, c-cards his education degrees, my passport/baptism cert. and then the pictures.
the pictures! While in Cuba I got the application with directions to take 3/4 views of face at specific size which we did professionally, Now I have heard we need passport /style photos straight ahead, face. !!! I am having him email me 2 new ones. , next, what are acco fasteners? are they the butterfly clips or just paper clips.? Can anyone out there email me a few pictures of how their Successful package looked? I have pictures of us and our family together and want to make sure it is all right .... I sure am hoping this is the year of much change, all good for all of us cubanas and cuban americanas, we need it! felicidades del nuevo ano!!!! star_smile.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOnly sent one copy each of the I-325a to the lock box, how did i miss that all 4 x2 were supposed to be in there??
"In all likelyhood, you'll be fine. I'd think twice or more about filing that I-129F though. In 2009, it's usually not a good idea, although there are exceptions."

What do you mean by this? I was told to file this after I got my receipt of the I-130 being received. Am I missing some point here?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOnly sent one copy each of the I-325a to the lock box, how did i miss that all 4 x2 were supposed to be in there??
After 50 hours of putting the whole I-130 package together, going to a copy center trying so hard to make the whole thing right , I put it in the fed-ex envelope, paid the postage and and kissed it goodbye. I was so tired and panicky that all of our items were copied and included correctly that I took out what i thought were all extras , now I realize that there were only one form 325a for each of us in there. I sent it to the special lockbox address for non USPS couriers because of the time and location I was at , and of course we are heading into a holiday weekend also. My next step would be the 129-f filed for him as my spouse(K-3) does anyone know if we are going to be rejected for this omission? I am a wreck. AND most importantly, when and if I am filing that next 129-f , do I have to send an almost identical package of all of the same things plus the 325a forms times 4 for each of us ???? that is what I just read somewhere here on the site. I have been given so many directions that didn't match by officials at the support center and then the phone service, please , I am a good reader and pretty well organized but this process has been tricky. I could use some hand -holding i guess! the fasteners seem to be ok one day and not the next so I just used the paper clips and god help me that package had over 30 pages so it was clipped , page tabbed and rubber banded. I would also like to know how am i supposed to send my husband in Cuba anything??? that's about impossible, only email ... hoping for some friendly thoughts now that we are finally in process.....

shouldn't we have a date? and since I paid NVC for the Immigrant App. processing what would he have to pay at the consulate for interview...??? I am dying , the waiting is getting to me!!any help appreciated

Call the NVC to find out if they were able to make you an appointment at the embassy for July. They make appointments with the embassies during the first two weeks of each month, so they'll be done by Friday or so.

And no, there are no more visa bills left to pay, only the basics such as medical, vaccines, etc. which vary from country to country.

Hey star_smile.gif
What probelms did you have to deal with? What would you do differernt if you had the chance to start the whole K3/CR1 process all over again?
Which "mistakes" are unnecessary?

not having certified copies to send was our biggest problem, (most of our papers were stolen in a robbery) so we could only send the originals we had left, and wait for some replacements it slowed us way down...
biggest problem, that there's no mail between cuba and the US. problem we are dealing with now, waiting for the interview to be scheduled , feeling at the mercy of the powers that be.
Do differently? do the fiancee visa and get married here in US , apparently much faster and I know much less expensive!!
I am praying this goes faster soon... praying....

o MIO DIOS! I am happy for you, and envious!!! That is fantastic turnaround time. Did he already have his medical? If he is able to come soon he will be here for an exciting time , I hope , the election of a new administration, one more fair to Cuba!! Being Cuban American , married to a Cubano, our situacion is HARD! We are still in a big confusion of how best to get a visa for Aldeki to come here as a non-immigrant, and at this point we need help... Thought we had a J- exchange visa thru the college that wanted to hire him but turns out they in using another university for their sponsor could not get a visa third - party.... any way. I still check in on everyone here because it is so helpful to read what others are doing, even if the difference is large, re . immigrating vs. not. When I return there, I am hoping as a spouse to be able to be in Cuba for as long as it takes to come back together next time. I get excited for anyone who is to the point of making their travel plans and awaiting their partner, you have my congratulations , blessings to you para todos, felicidades!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCuba: Better for US fiance to attend interview?
OH HELL YES!!!

I just returned , yes it was huge burden , but as someone who has been in this for 2 years now, nothing is as important as your face, and solidarity shows. I saw personally many persons denied at the interst section on the 2 days we were there, and heard all of the reasons. I was interviewed in english and spanish and was told that our attention to presenting evidence of our relationship and how we would be able to live was exactly what they wanted to see. afterwards, when we had to go to apply for the carta blanca in our municipality of Boyeros , ( en La Vibora) again , it was my being there that made the difference and we were able to get it done a bit faster. Nothing in Cuba is quick and it is allllllll somewhat difficult , I will write separately a full account, I could def write a book of helpful what to do and what not to dos... any way. take $ lots of it and make or buy sandwichs ffor your day there, also wear cloths for being cold inside and so hot outside, because noe en cuba its reallllllly hot. prepare to celebrate afterwards if it goes welll, get a coffee and then hit the planchao!!! hahahha, but know its only 1/2 done at that point, the next 2+weks are a test of your endurance.

Hi!

My Cuban fiance's interview is in November, and we're debating whether I should attend or not due to financial burden. Because we have some difference in age, race, and recent divorce, I think it'd be best that I go, but just wanted to see what the forum has to say (in hopes of not having to drop a grand for an interview).

thanks for any input!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow do we get our Documents returned to us ???
unsure.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif whistling.gif Our folder of original (REQUIRED!) Birth certificate, marriage certificate, police/ military etc stamped papers was given to my husband in the sealed envelope , when he arrived at the airport and went thru immigration he was only handed back his passport stamped with the entry visa. Now as we wait for his Permanent Resident card, we are wondering will we receive our folder back as it was promised? Copies of these documents which we have are essentially worthless, the originals were given as requested and we do not have duplicate originals. Please someone tell me how to get these back. If its all easy and are heading our way, then sorry for the question , but for us now , this is just one more mystery .... thank you! good.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow did you meet your Cuban fiancee in the last 2yrs???
Oh thank you so so much for that...
I have been sweating blood over this, wondering what I should do and making my way to the process more slowly than i want because of the fear. I have also been 3 tims in the last 6 monthes, infact, I was there for 5 months ....wish I had not been such a scaredy cat about keeping stuff. Pictures of our bank book would be nice about now..
I really am nervous about the evidence because I have deleted so many photos it is sick, but although i have thousands of others and strangers and dogs, markets churches etc. i take very few of my boy friend back then, only now that I have digital... My plane stubs , i have some of course none from Mexicana which i could saywas the visit of my one fully hosted trip, almost entirely legal (I attended a conferencia of therapy and rehabilitacion) and so on....
can you tell me why you did not marry there? i am just trying to hear from as many persons as I can from US why this is the best, my case is that yes we want to be able to be here( very important), but that we must keep residency there as i am trying very hard to have a project there... So I really would love to hear what you know about our adjusted status after marriage to a cuban national. I ask because in the ministerio judicial i was told so many things that i do not know what to think....
Next question, does the medical "check " always cost 400. cuc?? is it possible any different from any different municipio or hospital/ dr.? I am well used to the hurry up to wait scenario en cuba...Es Cuba...... my biggest worries are in the waiting , needing to get money to him there for the next parts, I definitely would want to go in person , yet that is another huge chunk out of what we need to keep for this process. ! Que lastima!!! maybe i will let the good news of having found this board and some nice people settle in and feel happier, it must be the april fool's joke for me , a woman that loves to be warm to be on an island in Maine, where it is snowing!! not so fun, we all need some flores/flowers!! And at least now I am waiting for my loved one with a few friendly kindred spirits, right? If I could "see " examples of a really good format to present all of this that would b fantastic. Thankyou for helping another person feel encouraged, this is hard without help. one last question, Do letters of support from anyone important in state government help? I don't know if that is even possible but I would like to know just in case...
so, please , let me know the better approaches, all tips gratefully accepted!! And yes , i do have milions of questions, many of which are solely related to Cuba and the structure of the system, which is pretty complicated. Verdad! muchisimas gracias!! I am already feeling a bit better even though today is just as dark and cold as yesterday. I better put some music on and get going , lots to do!!
Joanna

I
First i like to say that i feel your pain.
I felt the same way about 8 months ago. When i originally filed my I-129f, and I thought i would be clever and use the hardship excuse that I couldn't visit my fiancé due to U.S restrictions. USCIS quickly replied and threaten to reject my petition until i provided evidence of meeting. I consulted with a lawyer, and he told me to reply back with the truth that made many trips to Cuba without a license. I provided the evidence - pictures, visas in Canada and Mexico, plane ticket stubs, luggage stubs, and a letter begging for forgiveness. And they approved my case with no problem. To be honest they do not really care if you go illegal. I have been there 3 times in the last 6 months. Twice i went to the U.S interest section, and never had a problem. In fact, they treated me very well. So do not worry about that. Although right now you might not have the emails to prove your relationship, but you can start sending emails to him and vice versa. Pictures of you two together are important, try to provide that. Phone bills, calling cards, letters, gifts are other examples. If you need any help, let us know...Edwin&Mary.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow did you meet your Cuban fiancee in the last 2yrs???
que bueno! gracias para todos.... I sometimes write more "stream of conciousness" than I should for others to read and respond to.... lo siento.
good to hear the advice on the meeting question, it has kept me up at night since I first saw it a long while back...
next , I am trying to get a final tally on all the fees on doing the K-1. because you are with a cubano, lets see if we looking at the same ahem.. remitances...
this is a big budget to make and try to hold down.....
We are applying for non-immigrant status, as we do not want to lose his residence.
I worry that we will have to put up a large "surety" money before his exit visa will be granted..
Had you ever considered marrying en cuba?
What are the best reasons not to?
Reasons to go to the interview there? it is all dificil, muy dificil.... es cuba...
My wondering of the time frame we are talking about is,
if we apply in MAY,( and god willing, it is approved) when does anyone think it is possible that Mi novio would arrive and for how long would he have the visa? 3MESES?
I of course need to know as RT plane tickets must have dates on the back end. And after our marriage, i want to register so that I can stay there with him for 6 months instead of 2...
complicado , eh?
Bien, this is a good start, to have this forum complete with real people from everywhere including the US. I had never seen it before last night, what a shock after all the constant searching I do, and to only have had a few canadian based sites etc.
My informacion from the consultorio y notarias is so vastly different that it is hard to do any comparative analysis with, but still, quizas because I am cubana americana culturally, I find myself weighing it all as if both side were equal... hmmmm....
well, I better stop now, my mind gets ahead of what I can do, because now its a waiting game. I will take the advice to get my letters together and try to organize them, I did see from one gentleman that had everything go very swiftly that he was meticulously together... hmmm.. documents are what you don't genrally save from cuba... we do hav a shared bank account, think that is a good thing? of course the bank book is there... ok thank you so much, good night for now!! joanna

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow did you meet your Cuban fiancee in the last 2yrs???
[Hi, thanks so much fro at least trying to reply and answer my questions, yeah I know i went a bit over there, feeling so frustrated at that moment..
I took the time to read your initial or one of your first posts on your profile thing, sounds like we have some similar situations. I have a final divorce decree on May 14 all waiting done, I should have divorced long ago but just didn't do it and now I of course wish I had . because I worry it looks bad , so recent etc. nothing immigration hasn't seen before.. Any way. My big questions are much more specific because of the embargo on cuba travel. it is near impossible to get a license so not many of us do, we go and risk it because generally it works out. Here is my problem. I met my fiancee in 2006 and only met and talked , that was all. I saw him again last year and more of the same. No email, I was involved with my projects and conference etc. and that was that. I returned for more language course work again i n 2007 and immediately in January began our relationship complete, meaning we were both ready to commit and make a life together. Because I had no license to be in Cuba I want to know how do I answer that question, being person who wants to be honest but not stupid , this is hard. There is an actual clause that says you have to have met/seen your fiancee within the 2 years UNLESS it would incur some aspect of hardship or difficulty etc. I don't even want to ask any official this question. first , because of course i have met him and i am only trying to protect myself , and also his ability to come here.... then, the fact is that Cuba has such poor internet availability and even worse mail that we only have the flurry of email since I returned in March till now. very much about marriage etc. No , my fiancee has no way of saving or accessing records of anything else , saving emails was not possible until now. Cuba is different, for sure. Next, yes I know K-1 is for coming here to marry, which I think is preferable but I'm not positve... I am told I can marry him there and it is completely legal except the being there part!!! and then I would have to do a k-3, i don't know which is better , faster ?? these are my issus. i wonder what in fact might change for aldeki there if we married there,(for 850.US) if we would have the same incredible awful fees for his exit visa, carta blanca(130). and medical check ( 500 us) as well as the $$ here. hate to make it more expensive!!! oh well its only money right? money i want to put into our home and or tickets between our countries, as my husband is not looking to immigrate, only to be with his wife. We actually have much to work on there, and family both places ... so does that clear any of my presentation up. i hope so, I will try to re-write to the forums for a better chance at getting advice. I am set to apply asap after May when i have my documents in order perfectly. what should be filed online anything? and is vermont the only center for me being from maine? I saw that missouri was the center certain doc.s needed to go. Because cuba is cuba there is no embassy to go to there for aldeki, just then cuban interests section at the swiss embassy and immigration, lots of hoops and lots of money/// I only want to do the right thing, and it ain't easy, hahaha!
well I know this is long, so sorry , and really thank you so much
wish i was dealing with NZ, it might be a bit easier, you would think being half cuban would help but it actually is harder... ok , all the best, joanna

quote name='KimandRuss' date='Mar 31 2008, 04:54 PM' post='1711289']
unsure.gif I'm sorry I don't think i'm understanding what it is you're trying to ask. Perhaps try posting one question at a time and the lovely people here at VJ will be able to help you better.

As far as proof of relationship goes... you need to have met in person within the 2 years previous to filing. You can try, but there isn't much getting around that one. Sorry.

It's hard to give you information about other proof since we don't know if/when you filed..etc. You have access to the internet, therefore, you have a way of communicating and proving that. Many people here chat via text/cam/voice right over the internet for no charge. Your fiance doesn't have any of those previous emails or chat logs?

Not sure what you want to know about divorce. Both of you have to be free to marry and you must be able to prove that. How the divorce is handled and how long it takes depends very much on the country and/or state where the divorce is filed. I had to wait 120 days from my court date to have my divorce decree in Massachusetts. Some states are quicker and some make you wait to marry even after you are divorced.

You cannot file for a K1 and get married in another country. You must marry in the US.

How long it takes depends on which service center you file with and which consulate you are dealing with.

Hope that helps a little at least.

OK, somebody here with good energy, help me along on the this. Privately if you want. I need to know how we answer this one and where really should I be.... I am not ready to believe that very many of US had licenses in hand when we met our novios/ novias. so how much info is enough, what is not enough. We don't make phone calls, we can't afford it. I dumped last years email records when I changed servers entirely. Please encouragement, Im not new to this, and cuban american which doesn't uhhhh help. I do want to get married here this year before too long. the $ to do it there and then still spend the same for my husband to come here for a visit is nuts. and I worry thatbhte same sticky questions exist. I never let it bother me in the past, now I am ready to marry mi media naranja and just want this endless waiting to be over. How much weight does any one isue carry over another ie. divorce ....? Has anyone every clainmed not to have met their fiancee because of the "hardship"? Forgive me if this is a beaten to death topic....
