I had my interview today at 10 am in Zagreb, Croatia. After I entered the embassy they sent me to the window 7 to hand in all the forms I got in the package (after they receive the petition from NVC they send just one package with all the forms that I need to fill out and bring with me to the interview and instructions for the medical). The instructions are not really clear but they call you after they receive the petition and explain everything. At the window 7 was a nice Croatian lady I hand in all the papers to and she really new her job. They asked also just for Affidavit of Support without tax return or any supporting evidence. I didn't have right receipt from the bank (my mistake) so I have to bring it tomorrow and pick up the visa. Otherwise visa is done right away.
After I hand in all the papers I waited exactly one minute to be called for the interview.
I was asked following questions:
How did you meet?
When did he propose and where?
Did you live together there (we met in Germany)? Yes
What was I doing in Germany?
Where does he work?
Did he meet my parents?
When did we see each other last time?
Is he married?
Does he have any children? Not that I know smile.gif (they laughed)

After that the CO (really nice lady) said everything looks good and said congratulations! She didn't ask for any evidence, although I had more the enough (you never know). I was in and out of the embassy in 25 minutes!
It was really easy experience and there was just one more person for immigrant visa there.

You shouldn't need translation for your police certificate because only documents that are not on English or a local language should be translated. I had a German police certificate and didn't need a translation for the us embassy in Croatia.

In Europe you can get a Bachelor degree on a 3 or 4 years university. It is validated the same, the difference is the 3 years bachelor is earned on a University of applied science. It is accepted everywhere in Europe according to Bologna declaration. I’m really not familiar how is accepted in the States but I’m just going to do all that stuff thru WES because I have a 3 year bachelor from a business college in Croatia and Masters from a University of applied science in Germany and I really do not feel like studying anymore. I consider just taking some online Master courses from some University in US because it may help in getting a job there.

well technically in the US people starts University after high school, while in Quebec you need to do at least 2 years of CEGEP before, or you can do 3 years of CEGEP in a technical field and then be on the job market. So where a BA is 2 years, and a BS is 4 years, wouldnt a DEC in a CEGEP for 3 years be somewhere in between??

Its not a University, but thats what we call college, and I hear that in the USA they call university college anyways blink.gif

So here I am, confused about how to explain myself. The question has already arised twice, and their human resources department are working on it. I am also counting on my 6 years of experiences in my previous job, but it seems like they are very focused on my education anyways.

My guess is that 3 years of technical college should be worth more than 2 years of a BA, considering they are both studies donw right after High school and none of them includes more specialization...

Any ideas?

Thank you! I was encouraged b/c when I spoke to NVC today, I needed to make an address change for my fiance, & the lady told me to fax it immediately b/c she said that the papers will not be there very long. She wanted it faxed within the hour! Sure a lot more efficient than USCIS! The personnel have been very nice; also an improvement.

Hoping for some more approvals and NVC arrivals ASAP. good.gif


We had to change my address and the embassy also because I moved from Germany back to Croatia. It was so hard, they were convincing us it's not possible, we got 10 different information, sent fax and email. But it got changed and on Monday October 22 we got the letter that the embassy and address has been changed and that petition will be sent out within a week. Well, our petition still hasn't been sent out and since they received the petition on October 18 we're calling them every day but no luck.

Yes, it's wrong. I don't see any good reason why the petitions approved by VSC get really fast to NVC and for those from CSC takes forever. Btw. we managed to change the embassy at the NVC after constant calling and begging. They said it should be sent out this week!

I'm so sorry you're going through this.. I understand your frustrations completely. But I just wanted to clarify that VJ timelines are not 100% accurate, these are just aproximated times. VJ can say it will take 10 days to get NOA1.. the truth is we waited 1 month to get ours. VJ says, your case should be forwarded to the NVC in 2 weeks.. lately, in reality it's taking up to 1 month. So keep in mind that VJ timelines are not always the 'rule'.

You are right, but VJ times are more accurate then what NVC said. And CS people there where really polite (I'm not complaining about that) but they'll say anything to get you of the phone. I've posted the whole story at "Waiting NOA2 from VSC", actually it's a letter to the representative.

Well, the point is they are useless! My fiance called again and CS guy said that they would need proof of residency like a copy of my passport and that there are no guarantees that it would be changed because that’s their policy!!! Well they didn't need the proof for my residency in Germany and if I'm a Croatian citizen it's obvious that I have a residency in Croatia. My fiance told him then that their policy is unacceptable and that this is something that needs to be changed immediately. My fiance then asked him to talk to his supervisor and he put him on hold then came back and told him that his supervisor was working on the case and updating it to Zagreb, Croatia……………I don’t know if we should believe him or not!!
It's just doesn't make sense. The whole process is so long and people move even to another country. Since I'm not a German resident since September I can't do my interview there and my address there is not valid anymore!
They lie just to get you of the phone.
Maybe I'm just naive, maybe that's the way things work but I lived in two different countries and traveled a lot and I've never seen something like this. I went already to visa process for Germany, it's not easy to but at least you get information and nobody lies to you just to get you of the phone!

At least they replied! Zee, how do figure there have been 10 approvals since November 1st? I really want to believe this is true, but when I do a timeline search from 11-01 to 11-06 I only get 6 results for VSC. And my search include all visa types from Vermont. I hope you are correct and I hope that this continues.

Congratulations to everybody approved, it's an amazing feeling!! I think there is more approvals from Vermont in first few days of November then it was in a same time period in October meaning they are moving forward faster. I mean, you would think so. Every time they make us hoping........

Hopefully Byron and Mirla are going to have their approvals like tomorrow. I know everybody else are waiting too but those two....I just can't wait to see their approvals.
Our petition is unfortunately still at NVC, I called them today but no luck. The good thing is that it takes around 2 weeks to get an interview at Croatian embassy. It's hard but when I see what everybody else needs to got through I can consider my self lucky.

Guys, this is the letter my fiance sent to his representative. It's our experience with the whole process. Maybe it's not going to make a big difference but at least we feel like we did something. He even paid 8$ for the letter to be printed out and hand delivered to the representative smile.gif I didn't know it's possible to do that blink.gif



"Good Morning,
I'm writing to you regarding the experience I have had with the USCIS and the National Visa Center. I applied for a K1 Fiance Visa at the end of May 2007. At the time I was a Captain in the Air Force stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, which is where I met my Fiance. She is truly the love of my life and I can't wait for her to, God willing, finally be able to live here with me as my Wife.
Unfortunately, I have had nothing but bad experiences with the Customer Service Centers at both the USCIS and the NVC. My experience started when I had to update my address after moving from Germany back to the U.S. due to my separation from the Air Force under the Voluntary Separation Pay Program. On the USCIS website there is a place to do so, unfortunately it will not accept a change if your previous address was outside of the U.S.
After my unsuccessful online attempt I called the Customer Service Center. I told the agent the situation at which point the agent tried filling out the same online form which I had already determined didn't work. The agent asked me for the address I put on my petition and I gave him my German address. He then told me that was impossible because the USCIS won’t send notice of actions to foreign addresses. I however, had just received my first notice of action in my German mailbox a week prior. The agent then told me that it was not a possibility to update the address and that I would have to send written correspondence to the Vermont Service Center, where my case was pending. I sent the package with tracking to Vermont and received notification from the USPS that the package had been delivered. A month later I still had not received confirmation of receipt from the Vermont Service Center. I called the Customer Service Center numerous times in an attempt to verify whether or not the letter had been received and my information updated. I was unable to verify but was finally told that I would have to wait at least 45 days and if I didn't receive any written notification by then I should call back. I again called another agent who told me that I should just enter a fake address into the online address change form and then enter my new address in the appropriate fields. I did this and the system took my change. Fortunately, only 5 days later on October 15th the Petition was approved. Had I followed the advice of the agent who said to wait 45 days I would have never received my notice of approval.
My Fiance is a Croatian citizen and was only in Germany as a student. Originally we listed the Consulate she would do her interview at as that in Frankfurt, Germany. As is normal in the course of time, circumstances change, and she moved back to her home country of Croatia. I have tried since then to update her information and change the Consulate but have come to find out that the entire Visa process is completely intolerant to any change. I was told that it was not possible for the Vermont Service Center to change this information and that I would have to contact the NVC. On the 16th of October I called to apprise the NVC of our situation. The agent I spoke with told me they had not received the Visa approval yet and that I should try calling back in 2 - 4 weeks at the earliest.
Luckily I knew this to be untrue, not due to any information I ever received from USCIS, but rather from a website named VisaJourney.com. There, people detail their personal experiences through the Visa process and the timelines involved with every step of the petition process. It is the single most useful tool available for anyone going through the Visa process but it is totally independent of anything the USCIS puts out. I knew from that website that it takes no more than 3-4 days for the NVC to get an application and once they do it only stays in their office for a day or two before they send it out again. Our petition, true to what Visa Journey said, arrived 2 days after approval on 17 Oct. I have since made numerous phone calls and sent e-mail requests to the NVC but as of today, 19 October, our information has still not been changed. In fact I talked to an agent who said that hopefully it will be changed but there is no guarantee of that fact. He then told me it was the NVC's policy that they cannot guarantee any changes can be made to an application. I then asked him what would happen if it did get set to Frankfurt. He told me that my Fiance would have to go back to Germany to do the interview there, however, that is an impossibility due to the fact she is no longer a resident of Germany. What he also failed to mention is if her address is not updated, sensitive information will go to a place where she no longer resides at.
I'm writing this in hopes to shed some light on the complete incompetence and indifferent attitude of many of the Customer Service Representatives I have talked to. In my experience the USCIS provides very little to no information on timelines involved with the Visa process and the update of information is a very cumbersome, timely, and uncertain effort. There seems to be little understanding that in the course of 6 months (the current window the Vermont Service Center has posted for K1 approvals) many things can change in the lives of those who have petitioned. I fervently hope something can be done to fix this broken system. I believe that for those U.S. citizens who happen to fall in love with someone who is not an American and try to bring them here legally, there should be a system in place much superior to that which we have now. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I can only hope that this letter helps those who file in the future."

Bearing in mind..MOST of those CSC'ers approved sent their petitions IN May and waited longer for noa1...so even if noa1 is JUNE..they waited since MAY for this just like some of us here...hang in there...it will turn around soon.

Ok, if some cases take longer to be approved I'm sure it would be nice to know why!!!! Can't they just say yes, we know a lot of later filers have been approved but we need to do ...........on your case! How hard can it be to give the info!

Unfortunately there are people waiting that are at 5 months or more that still have not been approved. Let's hope no one has to wait six months. blink.gif


What is really sad we don't know the reason for that or any information why is that so. All the latest approvals from VSC where late May filers with the similar time lines. Why some of the earlier filers are still waiting it stays a mystery. It's just doesn't make sense. Maybe they do some background checks that are taking some time. My fiance has TS clearance and every federal agency did already before a background investigation on him twice!! But, maybe that doesn't mean anything. We had two touches before the approval.
I really don't get it!!
But I know one thing, when they finally get approved we are making a big VJ party!!!!

First and foremost, i am sorry for the loss of grandma! I cant imagine what im going to feel when the day comes for me!! Yeah Leidy is ok now..at first it was a little hard but we came to the conclusion that everything happens for a reason! By the way..just one baby...lol...that all we want..we have her son and one more and thats it! She has something called preeclapsia so she is considered a high risk pregnancy so that adds to the reasoning of just wanting one... good.gif
