CanadaGetting an Interview Date in Montreal

I sincerely doubt it... but honestly I have no idea what'll happen if we don't get one. I guess I would just have to move on my own and settle in and when he gets back find a courthouse and marry. I dobut he'd be long gone for 90days... unless I could go where he is and do it. But that's just getting ridiculous haha. I find it insulting how quickly K1's can move through Vancouver. I would fly to Vancouver for an interview if it meant saving 3-5 months of problems and not being able to have a wedding. *sigh*.... we'll see how it goes I guess. My friend had hers expedited for an interview and her fiance wasn't even being deployed, she just said shes worried he might. However that wasn't in Canada... so it's very different and everything takes less than a month to do... well two if she hadn't gotten the expedited interview.

My mom's neighbour put in her visa app (her husband is US military) the same time as me (first of February). She's just had her interview and approved through Montreal. I haven't gotten my interview date yet (submitted P3 June 23rd); so I'm assuming that Montreal *will* expedite in that case.

CanadaHow Long ? Geez!

Thanks - I called them and they sent it to Montreal on May 13th. Emailed consulate in Montreal tonight; lets see if it really takes 2 weeks for a response!

CanadaHow Long ? Geez!

Have you called NVC to check if it has proceeded through there? The I-129F petition goes from the service centre to NVC then to the consulate.

NVC is: 603-334-0700

Thanks - I called them and they sent it to Montreal on May 13th.

CanadaHow Long ? Geez!
I'm a new Visajourney member after 'lurking' for a few months. I got my NOA2 from Vermont on May 7th, and still have not received package 3 from Montreal. Is this normal? It will be five weeks on Friday. I've been reading the horrors of Montreal and how long their processing takes. What is a 'normal' processing time for them? How long after I send package 3 checklist before I hear back about an interview date? I have to send thanks to all the VJ members for their information - it makes this process a little easier knowing what to expect!

CanadaGetting Interview Date?

Congrats on your packet 3!!
I don't think there is a "typical" wait time. So far, we have waited for 2 months to even get our date - still waiting. Some have waited longer, some much less. Seems they kind of schedule in clumps. So who knows... we could end up getting a date at the same time!
You can call the Department of State - 202-663-1225. Press 1 then 0 to get to the operator. Have your case number from packet 3 ready.
Good luck!!

Thanks! Someone else messaged me and suggested I call DOS, so I did at lunch. They said the packet was logged on June 30th. At this point, she said that montreal was backlogged (surprise!) and that realistically I probably wouldn't get notified of a date until late August/early September. She also said that it seemed that montreal was assigning interview dates in 'batches', usually at the beginning of the month. I'm hoping to be done, moved, and married before I turn 40 (on October 29th).. maybe wishful thinking...

CanadaGetting Interview Date?
I was wondering how long the typical wait time is after sending the p3 and receiving an interview date? (through Montreal). My packet arrived there on June 24th - i've seen other people note when their package was 'logged'. How do you find this out when you can't call or contact Montreal? Others have mentioned calling to get their interview date - who do we call?
Thanks, in advance, for any responses. I'm just back from a visit to my fiancee after being apart this time for 4 months - hopefully this is the last 'visit' and the next one can be my move! Thank you to all the VJers for your useful information - you have all provided so much 'real' information!

CanadaWaiting for Packet 3 from Montreal Consulate
My P3 took about a month and a half. I've been waiting that long again after it was logged for an interview date. Nothing moves quickly in Montreal!

Hey Chickaflick, I'm moving to GA too. Nice to see others that are moving to the same spot. Good luck with your interview. It'll go great

I'll be coming to GA as well - to Oakwood!!!

CanadaAny good news on Interview Dates?

People that finished up with NVC in April and May are just getting dates, and only a few so far.
Montreal is extremely backlogged.

My packet 3 was logged on June 30th, and I still don't have a date. Montreal is veeeeery slow.

CanadaPacket 4 from Montreal

Thank you for your replies!

I called 202-663-1225 this morning and got through right away! I now know that they received my Packet3 which means its been logged but they haven't sent Packet 4 just yet.

I'm sure it will be sent very soon!

Best of luck to you PegandTony! I had good experience calling that number, If you have more questions and haven't tried this number yet, its worth a try.... 202-663-1225 ;)

I call that number, at least once/week. They have not been helpful at all other than to say 'nothing yet'.

CanadaPacket 4 from Montreal

My packet 3 was delivered about a week before that and I just got my packet 4 two days ago! It shouldn't be long now for you! Also, I'm not sure if you are aware but when you receive your packet 4, there is a new system where you no longer are scheduled an interview but rather you choose your date yourself based on a calendar of available times online. It's so convenient! I just booked my appointment this morning but there are lots of open times for November and December!

Good luck!

My Packet 3 was logged on June 30th, and I still haven't received my Packet 4.

CanadaGetting Visa back with new Process
Hi all - I just (finally) got my interview date (YAY!!) and I notice it says that the visa will be ready for pickup at the DHL location in three business days. Has anyone had any experience with this new system yet? I want to book a flight for my SO to come up to move me down, and would like sooner rather than later. Not sure I should book for a few days later, or be safe and wait a couple of weeks. YAY that Montréal is finally moving on our visas!!

Canadafees for K1 at interview in Montreal

Hi Everyone!

Quick questions about the fees I have to pay at the interview. In my packet it says that if I paid everything to NVC - I don't owe the fee. Is that the $450 I spent at the beginning of the application - or was that to USCIS? Thanks for clarifying.

It's another $350 US for the interview fee.

CanadaNext batch of K1's waiting for interview in MTL

Sooo....I called DOS today and they said as of yesterday i was "ELIGABLE" to get an appointment for MTL. But that they will mail the instructions to me ONE month prior to the date of my appointment and that this will take "months" to get to me. I was under the impression we could now book our own appointments online. Seems like every time i call there i get a different answer. And everytime they tell me months it is done in a week. Anyone know what is really going on and if i can really book my own appointment. I would hate to wait for the letter and prolong the appointment date for nothing.

Montreal seems to be randomly sending P4s. Some people have them sent a month after their P3 is logged, some others (like me) wait over 80 days to have their P4. We are now booking our own appointments online. The second last person I talked to at DOS didn't know this was happening either... the information you get all depends on the person you talk to (and the day you speak to them!). Be patient, it will come! (and if you're like me and only see your SO every 3 months or so, buy more kleenex!)

CanadaNext batch of K1's waiting for interview in MTL

I have a strong suspicion things are moving again in Montreal.

A few CR1's have gotten interview dates!! YAY, they have been waiting what seems like forever!!! It's great to see things moving for everyone.

Just wanted to post more good news!! :)

I'm still keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed for some good news. Day 77...

CanadaNext batch of K1's waiting for interview in MTL

P4 is for k1s a packet to make your OWN interview dates acording to another member who just posted about it. its a new system now apparently.

At this point I'll do anything - make me own, have one assigned, just as long as I get a date soon!!

CanadaNext batch of K1's waiting for interview in MTL

I get mail quicker from Alberta!!!

Okay, so I call again today to ask if my P4 has been mailed, and the lady says no. I ask if there is an interview date (since many P3s logged after mine have one) and she says no. When I ask her (still using my happy 'don't piss off the DOS voice) if there are any notations on my file, she HANGS UP ON ME! Seriously?? After waiting over 15 minutes to talk to someone and that's what she does. ARGH. I'm so angry with them right now.

I'm in the same boat as your FI... I wish I could go to Montreal for the interview, but unless it happens to be on a Monday, I just can't swing it, having to save vacation days for wedding stuff :(

My SO is in Georgia, I'm in Halifax. He can't come for the interview as he's saving vacation days to move me down. HOPEFULLY i'll get a late-week interview as I'm hoping to schedule the medical and interview the same week to avoid the cost of going to Montreal twice. Is there a valid reason why you can only do your medical in Toronto or Montreal??

CanadaSuggestions in Montreal...please

Oh that sucks! It was really neat, I hope they reopen it before you get there, too!

I just remembered, the huge underground mall is another must-see in Montreal. It is joined with the subway system and it's pretty neat. It's a good option if it's raining out when you're there.

Thanks! I'll definitely check that out!

CanadaSuggestions in Montreal...please

If you love old architecture, you HAVE to go to Old Montreal (Vieux Montreal). It's kind of like a village, and the buildings are very old and the streets are made of cobblestones.

I once went on a horse and buggy ride through Old Montreal and it was quite nice and not very expensive (I think it was $40).

I know a decent amount of French but never needed to use any of it.

There is IMAX theatre in Old Montreal if that's your type of thing. The Biodome is also pretty cool.

I looked up the Biodome earlier this week and it is currently closed due to a 'labour dispute'. I'm hoping it opens back up before I get there!

CanadaSuggestions in Montreal...please

Hello there Canadiens!

my hubby and i are going to montreal for a a week and maybe taking the train to quebec for a day and was hoping you could give some tips.

where should we stay if no hotel recommendations, area would be great? we aren't looking for super fancy, just CLEAN and convenient.
anything we shouldn't miss? we love old architecture and off the beaten path stuff as well.
any musts for restaurants? we are foodies and he fancies himself the next tony bourdain or andrew zimern.

neither of us speak french but i can pick up a fair amount since i do happen to speak spanish, and i know there is english but would it be worth grabbing a pocket french guide?

thank you so much in advance for any suggestions.

Hi there - i'll be doing the same next month for my K1 interview (YAY!). So far my must-see list is Notre-Dame Basilica, Simon's Department store, Schwartz' deli (apparently the BEST smoked meat sandwiches), and a hike up Mont Royal.

Any other suggestions from Montrealers would be appreciated from me as well! =)

CanadaWho signed up for DHL mail delivery ??
I signed up for DHL; didn't have a choice with the new system. My interview isn't until November 10th. I'm thinking (and hoping!) DHL will be faster then Xpresspost as it has to get to Halifax.

CanadaFun Things to do in Montreal

I loooove to go to the Biodome each year. It's right in downtown Montreal, in the old Olympic complex. Really nice way to spend about half a day. If you like Greek food, I'd recommend hitting up Arahova for some amazing souvlaki and other types of Greek food.

J-

I wanted to go here too, but they're currently closed for renovations until December 4th!!
PegandTonyFemaleCanada2010-10-19 13:36:00
CanadaAny ideas for Xmas gifts?
Chex mix, Slim Jims, Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop Kettle Corn, Pucker, and Diet Mountain Dew. My brothers always enjoyed tshirts/hats with college sports teams. I was (and will be again!) in Georgia and got a bunch of Bulldogs stuff. I'm hoping to do some shopping here before I move so I won't have to ship so much.

I got my passport photos done today for the medical/interview (had to pay for three sets.. argh) and they printed the regular size. When I got home I checked my packet and it says they need to be the 2 x 2 (US) size. Is this going to be an issue?

CanadaWhich phone number is the correct one?
You can call the US Consulate near you, and they can look up to see if it's been shipped. The numbers given to me are:
Calgary - 403.800.1194
Halifax - 902.982.2191
Montreal - 514.400.2591
Ottawa - 613.800.0917
Toronto - 647.955.3736
Vancouver - 604.800.2794
Quebec City - 418.800.1751

I tried calling DHL directly but they said they couldn't track anything without the waybill number (which I believe begins with "S").
Good luck!

CanadaDHL or Xpresspost for MTL consulate

Check the dhl.ca site or give them a call maybe they can search via your passport number... or call DOS to see if it has been issued yet.

Call your local US Consulate (someone provided me with the numbers in a previous post in this same thread). You never know, your visa might already be sitting at your DHL office!

CanadaDHL or Xpresspost for MTL consulate

Don't panic, I had the same issue. When you call tomorrow ask if its okay to give them your passport to track it. That's what they did here in Vancouver. It didn't show being shipped either and the reference number ,like you said doesn't correspond to the Waybill number they DHL need. It took the 5 business days to get it so if the holiday isn't counted you "should" get it by Wednesday :)

WAHOO!! It came today!! Checked the website at lunch, still no tracking number. Called the consulate and they said it had been shipped and gave the tracking number. Looked it up on DHL site, and presto it was here! Checked the immigration site again tonight (just for 'fun') and they still haven't updated it with a tracking number.

Thanks again, to all the VJers, for your useful advice! Leaving Canada on Saturday!

No reference number there. Maybe it's too early? It also says 'no interview schedule' and lists the next available date. Is this because my interview is already done?
