US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUnemployed, fulltime student filing I-134 for someone on a tourist visa
Well why would you sponsor, you have income at all. So they will NOT approve it. You might as well have your aunt not do it.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWarning: this may be a silly question.
My fiance thinks she is bad in English as well even though she is pretty good at it. I know basic Tagalog and Bisaya but still not enough for a conversation. It does help though.

But the CO asked her what language she felt more comfortable in. She said English and they continued in English. He asked her where she was from and she said Compostela Valley Province, but the way she said it was Compostela Valet hahaha. So it had me laughing and she got embaraessed but the co had a good time laughing at us and ultimately we were approved.

PhilippinesFrom Manila to the Us?
Which part of Davao? Davao City or the rest of the region? Because my fiance lives up in Compostela Valley, about 120kms from Davao, a 4 hour aircon bus ride. But yeah DHL, FEDEX all the way. Just know if you send something to her, sometimes the delivery driver will request a tip of like 300peso.

PhilippinesFrom Manila to the Us?
I am working in Afghanistan and I send stuff to the Philippines ALL the time. It gets to Davao usually within 5 days, from there to her province it is usually a couple days depending on Holidays or anything in that sort of nature. She sends me stuff through DHL as well, it gets here in about 5 days as well. But just know that it is expensive shipping from the Philippines. Had her send me 2 pillows, and it cost like 14000peso, and she sent me stuff for Christmas. It weighed about 6 pounds, and it cost 4600peso.

PhilippinesMeeting Fiancee's Parents
Which part of the Philippines is she from? Because if it is from the South then learn some Bisaya/Cebuano not Tagalog. Most people in Mindanao don't speak Tagalog at all, or about as good as they speak English.

Most important thing to do is the BLESSING. The second time I went I learned more Bisaya than I Tagalog. So when we showed up to her family's home I said "Maayung Buntag" and I did the blessing. That really went along good, better than the first time I showed up. Because I tried to speak some tagalog before, and alot of words mean different things in the South.

He means front loading as in supplying all the paperwork when he intially files. But I frontloaded most of my proof of relationship, conversations, pictures. I sent that all in, so I hope it helps.

PhilippinesHow hard to get US Visa
I totally understand the reluctance of the embassy in regards to issuing B1/B2 visas due to the high probability of them not returning. Look what happened when the church sponsored travel visas to Spain for a conference, wasn't it like 20 people failed to come back. Due to over staying the visas.
But there are times where they get declined for almost no reason. I applied for a travel visa for my fiance, to come to the USA with me on vacation, due to me working in Afghanistan. I had paid for all flights round trip and she still got denied due her not having a job. Even though I provide everything.

PhilippinesBought property in the Philippines?
Yes, that is what was told to me as well. Due to us not being married she was buying it outright, even though EVERYBODY in her town knew where the money came from. It's a small town and everybody knows her, and me. Mainly because I am the only white guy that has shown up in town all year.

PhilippinesBought property in the Philippines?
Me and my fiance ended up buying land in her home town for the same exact purpose as you, retirement. Yes, land has to be owned by the citizen, either your wife or father in law. Also I don't know how it works in all of the philippines. But in my fiance's province, paid 1 amount, and put on the paperwork a different smaller amount. I asked about this, and I was told it was for tax purposes, so the ph goverment wouldn't tax it all, and I was told that this is a common theme.Due to the government being so corrupt over there. If it is going to be in your father in law's name, why would you have to file taxes on it in the states? Where in the ph is she from?

PhilippinesPolice Certificate for Qatar
My fiance is needing a Police Certificate from Qatar because she worked there for 3years. Also that is where I met her, and where we fell in love together, she is not in Qatar now but back home.

I have looked up the information for it, and it says that she has to go to Manila to the Qatari Embassy to get one. But I am not to sure about that, and I want to know if anybody else had to do it for Qatar as well. I am trying to clarify things before she goes up to Manila, because it is so far away for her.

PhilippinesDomestic Flights
Yes, the airlines in the Philippines are safe. Gosh going through security at the airports is bad, got to have a valid id WITH a reciept showing your date and times for flights. I have flew into cdo before and it is a small but good airport. Nothing like Manila or Davao, but still pleasantly small and nice. Plus I am a White American and I felt no problems or safety issues. But do know the airport is way away from the city proper of CDO.

PhilippinesTerminal Fee Question
No, there is NO TERMINAL FEE outside of the Philippines. The Philippines is the only country I know of that has a Terminal Fee.

If you are flying onward from Honolulu, then you need to pay for the baggage fee.

Yes, send it in US DOLLARS. Because if you don't it's a good 1 1/2 peso difference between the regular exchange rate and what western union exchange rate is per dollar. I know because I sent in pesos the very first time, and the rest of time is in US Dollars

It says literally from "Must have the fingerprints from the Police department and authenticated by the DFA". We are thinking from her local pulis station, not all the way at the NBI. That's alittle over the top don't you think?

PhilippinesDFA Fingerprints Help????
Ok here it goes. My fiance is needing to get a police certificate from Qatar. One of the requirements are that they need is they need a copy of her fingerprints from the police and signed off by the dfa. Does that mean that the dfa is notarizing them so to speak that they are valid?

PhilippinesBooking round trip along with one way for fiance

Really? No mention in the post that I was making comment about MY experience buying tickets for myself and my fiancee.

"Has anyone been able to book their own round trip airfare from the US to Philippines, and have a one-way ticket for the fiance from Philippines to the US that matches the return fligh?

Cathay Pacific allows searching of the one-way tickets. Korean air states Philippine law requires tickets be purchased in the Philippines. As well, its much harder to fly from a normal airport that doesn't have certain carriers. For this I would have to either get a connecting flight (from ORD) or drive to something like BOS or JFK. "

Wel he stated in his later post about flying into and out of Macatan, which is in Cebu.

Orbitz and Travelocity don't work from Mactan. Expeida and Cheapoair were twice the cost of what I was able to find from Mactan to ORD using Cathay pacific

PhilippinesBooking round trip along with one way for fiance
Ok, if you are flying from the US, most airlines fly in and out of only one airport Manila, if they fly to Cebu it is ALOT more expensive.. I would love to fly into and out of Davao, I really would. But it is at least $500 more expensive to do that and I waste more time. The best bet for you to do is what I do. Book a plane ride from ORD to MNL, then a seperate one from Manila to Cebu. That's what I do, and it hasn't gone wrong for me yet.

Be advised if you do that for your fiance. Philippine Airlines will require a photocopy of the eticket, a photocopy of the credit/check card used, and a photocopy of your id if you paid for it. It sounds a bit much but I nor my fiance have ever had a problem with it.

DHL has more of a presence in the PH than any other one but the local carriers. They also have more of a internation presence as well, thats why I use them.

Ok so we got the NOA2, got the MNL number for the embassy. I am kinda confused right now. I have been reading about packet 3's and stuff like that. Will the Embassy mail a packet to my mahal, and if so is there anything that she needs to fill out? If so will she need to bring it with her to the interview? I know about the medical, I already got her registered on that. I am just wondering

Yeah that is everything that needs to happen in order to get one. What sucks for me and NY Yankees is that we live in Davao. So anything that we have to send off is to Manila and then back to Davao.

PhilippinesPolice clearance
I would file when she is back home in the Ph. But first she needs a police clearance from Qatar. Which is ALOT easier if she is still in Doha. Our situation is different since both of our Fiance's are in Davao now not Doha

You can go ahead and file the paperwork to get the NOA1, while she is still there. Then by the time she gets back to the ph, it should be ok for her to do medical and the interview

She got the fingerprints done at the NBI in Davao, then had to have them shipped off to the DFA in Manila for certification. She got that back within a week. Then you have to send all that stuff to the Qatar embassy in Taguig, they will send it to Qatar. Its about a 6-8week process which sucks
