Make sure to stay on top of it and get the case number as early as you can.   I would update through the embassy directly because often NVC will say its updated but it wont be updated in the system and the embassy will be trying to contact you at the incorrect address. I was born in Europe and became a NATURALIZED US CITIZEN. Do I still need to send him an original certified copy of my European birth certificate? Also I did not send him my original paper of NATURALIZATION. Is the original required or is a photo copy of the Naturalization certificate okay and is it required that it is a certified copy?     Color copy of Nat certificate and copy of US passport would be fine. Generally what happens is when its a current or last year issue the interview does not happen, the medical is not approved and the entire process is put on hold for a year while they do drug tests.   I don't believe you have any further issue with this. Some peoples files had been sent to the NRC instead of the NVC as well. Just keep on top of it and stay in contact with them until they locate the file. You don't need the actual NOA2 for anything leading up to the interview.   You use your case number when calling NVC or DOS to ask about your new case number and if its been mailed to the consul yet. I was just curious if they even ask for those things.     In general conversation probably but its not a requirement for the K-1.   You can provide a copy of the birth cert if they ask for it. The green card is for living in the USA. You do not intend to live in the USA. It would be a waste of your time and money. The green card is not a travel document. If you are applying from outside the country sometimes they require finger printing to be done and sent to them. Look up how to get the police certs from the specific countrys he needs.
