USCIS Service CentersHow long does first part of k1 visa process take?

Dave,

You are making me really nervous here.  Is there a reason your has taken 10 months and not gotten a decision yet?  That seems way out of the ordinary and I am hoping it is not a current trend.

Thanks,

USCIS Service CentersHow long does first part of k1 visa process take?

Thanks Darnell, hopefully someone has recently gotten a k1 through the Texas service center and can tell me how long they had to wait.  This whole process is crazy to me.  I can't believe that any two idiots can find each other and get married in the US so easy, and someone who wants to marry a non-US citizen has to deal with this crazy long process.  Here's keeping my fingers crossed that I hear something back any day.  Or hopefully before I have to leave and travel for work again.

Would getting my congressman to write an official congressional letter of inquiry help move this along?  Or do you think it would just make the people in the USCIS office mad?  It has already been 5 months and 2 weeks, I am so miserable with out her, together everyday for almost a year, and then 3 months of separation sucks.

USCIS Service CentersHow long does first part of k1 visa process take?

Hello Everyone,

I just signed up on this site, but have been reading posts for a while.  I am 34 and met my fiance while I was living in Moldova for almost 2 years.  We started dating, then living together, and eventually I asked her to marry me.  We met via work (she worked for the company I was there doing consulting for).  We were in no rush to file for k1 because I had residency and was planning on staying in Moldova till the spring of 2014.  Unfortunately my residency did not get extended and now I am back in the states and waiting on my fiance to come to me.

On August 26th the USCIS accepted my I-129f form, then in October they asked for new passport style photos of me, which I sent back to them and they received on November 7th.  The website says I should receive a written decision within 60 days of them receiving it, but still nothing.  When I call they can't give me any info.  Now we are over 5 months since first filed.  I called last week and said it has been well past the 60 days they list on their website, and now past 5 months since we filed.  They told me that their records show they are processing applications from August 16th and I should hear something any day.  It has been another 10 days and still nothing.  I am an emotional wreck and so is she.  I had her quit her job because we thought this would be happening in January and the visa interview in February.  Does anyone know of how I can find out a hard answer on when this will be approved?  Or timelines of how long their applications took?  Any info would be helpful on this subject, or advice you can offer.

On top of everything else, I now have to go to South America for work and planning when my fiance will arrive, and my travels is really adding to my stress level.  Please please give me some insight into what is happening or what I should be doing.

Thanks,

DanielV

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Approved CSC 29 Days

My NOA2 was sent yesterday too!!! Finally the i-129f is approved and it is on the way to the NVC.  Congrats to you too!  What a long and crazy process.  Had I known it would have taken this long (about 6 months to this point) we would have filed way earlier.  We were engaged and living together for 5 months before we even filed the paperwork lol.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS immigration when entering the US

No one seemed to care.  I didn't go up to the window but was waiting back in line still when the immigration officer asked me to come over.  My wife would have been fine, but she did not know the area we were staying in (I moved right before she arrived).  I have travelled all over the world and lived outside of the country for many years.  That non us citizen and us citizen lines thing is meant to allow us citizens quicker lines, but if you go to either they don't care.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS immigration when entering the US

My wife came in on a K1 visa through Chicago airport in July.  I flew in with her and the woman at immigration was nice, asked her a few questions, and then asked me to come over to the window.  She wanted to know where our final destination was and where we were living, I told her, she took all of the paperwork and then stamped her passport.  It was easy and we never left the window.  They did scan her fingerprints there.  Make sure you ask them for you i-94 which they did not give to us and I had to get online.  You will need that later for other documents after the marriage.
