Hey, you guys have gotten this far. What's a few more days, eh? Those last few weeks I missed Vancouver dreadfully, and I was still there!

So back to your q, I would say get there at 6 AM. He won't be done till around 10.30. Then he'll return around 2 to pick up his results. In the morning he'll be spending roughly three hours waiting around so bring the paper, crosswords, etc. There's a Tim Horton's at the gas station, and along Davie there are tons of eateries. So he needn't be totally sitting around.
Thanks! I think I've been stressing enough for the both of us... He lives in Vancouver, so I'm sure he will find something to do...

I just want him here as soon as possible... all these delays are killing me!

If yes, then no worries, his interview will likely be within a month or two from now.

I say get there even earlier! 6 AM. I got there at 6.40 and waited till 7.15 in line.
Yes, he recieved his packet 3. He faxed in his DS-230, but it didn't go through and the consulate called him... he then re-faxed it later, and so that is why we are still waiting on his interview... The lady that called him said they were scheduling for August 27th interviews at the time, so we are hoping for August 29th or September 5th *crosses fingers*

No, it is not required for the medical, because when he booked the medical, he would have told Laura (or another receptionist) when his interview was. Anyway, the medical staff don't require to see his appointment letter. Get there EARLY. There is a queue at 6.30 AM!

The appointment letter is required for his Vancouver consulate interview. That allows him entry to the building.
Well his interview hasn't been scheduled yet... He is planning on being there at 6:30... is that early enough??

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical in Vancouver Tomorrow
Hi, my fiancé has his medical in Vancouver tomorrow, and I have a question. I have been searching the forum for the answer, but can't seem to find a consistent one.

He has:
-Immunization records
-Passport photos
-Passport

I've read that he needs an appointment letter? Is this required? What is this? I'm beginning to get confused with all of the paperwork I have been doing...

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I requested my transcripts... but was hoping not to have to worry about all the other documents if I don't need to...

I-134 requires supporting documentation. If tax returns were not filed, you provide an explanation citing the IRS regulation that exempted you from filing. You can skip the asset information if income is sufficient or if completely insufficient and you have a co-sponsor.

So I need some advice from everyone who has gone through with the K1 Visa:

When the foreign fiance(e) moved to the USA, how did they manage to support themselves? Because I am basically assuming that my fiance is not going to get an EAD when he crosses the border on his K-1. I am only a University Student with a part-time job, and cannot support him.

Basically, I'm wondering how everyone else got by not being able to work, and living in a foreign country. helpsmilie.gif

QUOTE (Caladan @ Dec 14 2007, 12:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hmm. You could work and go to school part-time, but the problem with that is that immigration can take so long that you'd be putting your education on hold in a way that wasn't predictable. It took us over a year from K-1 filing to green card in hand, and we had a very easy journey. Personally, that wouldn't be something I'd be comfortable doing.

What does he do? Could he find work in your area and get a work visa to come down?

You have a few separate problems here:
1) How to get through the immigration hoops that require you to show an income.
2) How to survive the first few months until he can find work.

The two problems can have separate solutions. You can solve 2) through a combination of savings, housing arrangments, budgeting, etc. And 1) could be solved with a co-sponsor if you get one. I would start by reading the FAQs here, and learning as much about the affadavit of support as you can, because people aren't always clear what it means.

Would you consider moving to Canada? You could finish your education up there, maybe?

Yes, he has an education and a lot of work experience, so him working is not a problem... and we should be able to get by on my student loans, part time job, living with my parents, and his savings.

I just need to prove to immigration that I can do it, and I can't because I don't make enough. I'm talking with my parents more about it... and my dad seems very understanding, but he isn't completely sure.

And I have already been living in canada for 8 months, and I miss home too much. We have decided that we both want to live in the states.

it sounds like they might be trying to protect you (I'm not saying that you need protection, just that's what they may be trying to do). My parents weren't overly fond of my husband the first time they met him-which I think is fairly common. Parents and sibs always think that you are being foolish, in pretty much any circumstance. Now they've gotten to know the hubby, they of course love him but it takes time.

Can your boy come visit you for Chirstmas, spending time with your fam?

Well, I have been living with him for about 8 months now, and I am going to be moving home and starting school again (I took a semester off to be with him). He will be helping me move home on Christmas day, and will be seeing my family then, but that is only one day... They just haven't had time to get to know him.

The thing is, I decided to move home because I don't like being away from family, but they are making me almost regret my decision. It would be so much easier to immigrate to Canada.

How close are you to finishing your degree and landing a job? I ask because the I-134, which you'd need for the visa, are *not* legally binding. They're an administrative requirement that the consulate uses to assess whether you'll be able to adjust status successfully.

As it turned out, we didn't need it, but my dad was willing to co-sponsor for the I-134 but not for the green card (which is legally binding.) And in that time I landed a second job that made it certain I wouldn't need a sponsor.

Well, I have 2.5 years left... so landing a good job isn't really an option for me wacko.gif

So I asked my sister (who is an attorney) and sent her the forms today. She has been screwed over financially by co-signing for a good friend in the past, so she has chosen to say no to my request. My parents are also wary because they also have co-signed for someone...

It's not that my family doesn't trust me, they just don't like the situation that they would put themselves into... I feel no support from my family.

Is there any way around getting a co-signer? Has anyone else had a problem similar to mine?

Yes, I'm not technically 'legally' here in Canada... Just hangin' out for an extended visit.

yeah, American's are only allowed to be in Canada 6 months out of the year, so you're already there illeagally. No technically "legal" about it. I know that you want to stay with your boy, but if you get caught by CIC you could be banned from Canada for a few years. In the long run you're better off to go home and be apart for a little while.

Oh, I know that. I'm moving home in 10 days. Then when I visit, I will have proof that I am going to school, have a job etc so I can get through the border...

They also have no proof of the total time I've spent here, just most of the times when I cross... Don't worry, I have my bases covered good.gif

Ok, so I just had a crazy thought... I'm having trouble convincing my parents to co-sponsor my fiance, because they worry about the possible financial burden that can be put on them....

So... could a co-sponsor be outside of the US?? My fiance's parents and grandparents would sponsor him in a second... I found this on the USCIS website, it makes me think that I'm not crazy?

"If the sponsor is in the United States, the affidavit may be sworn to or affirmed before an immigration officer (see any USCIS District or sub-office) or before a notary public or other official authorized to administer oaths for general purposes. If the sponsor is outside the United States, the affidavit must be sworn to or affirmed before a U.S. consular or immigration officer."

Or is that just talking about me?? I'm confused, does anyone know the answer?

So you would check the box for Birth in the U.S. (I'm assuming you were born in the U.S.) and then enter your birth certificate registration number, place and date issued, below that.

I'm a K-1 visa lady that lived in Saskatchewan and my interview was in Vancouver, as it is for any K-1'ers west and including Manitoba. There is no if's and's or but's about it. No, there is no Nebraska anymore..but that's irrelevant. Your fiance will still have his interview in Vancouver if he's a K-1 or K-3, because he lives in BC. PERIOD.
It doesn't matter what's on the application I don't think....they'll automatically send it to Vancouver...but if they don't, try and head it off at the pass so to speak, and get NVC to send it to Vancouver. While Montreal has picked up the ball and scheduling interviews much faster than say 4 or 5 months ago, you're still only looking at about a month or 6 week wait for one in Vancouver after you fax back your package 3 checklist.

Just to clarify...you are a K-1 aren't you?

Yes, my fiancé is a K-1. I called the USCIS, and they advised me to contact the National Visa Center at 603-334-0700 after we get an approval from California, so that we can ensure that it goes to Vancouver.

2. A K1 visa from Vancouver takes one year to process. From Montreal, about 6 months. Most clients choose the faster route. That was certainly your decision however

I am not sure what "incorrect information" you were given that you refer to in your email.

I do, however, appreciate your confidence in my ability. I am sure that it is easy to forget that I process over 1700 K visas per year - for a living.

Thanks and have a great day!

I have read on here that Vancouver is much quicker than Montreal... which is true? I am getting confused...

I know... California seems to be taking forever. Another thing that irks me? I looked on the USCIS website, and our petition should have gone to Nebraska, not Cali... grrr

Ok, thank you! Yeah, I'm definitely feeling the same way... but I do think it's too late to fire her. We paid $500 for this:
