I am still confused on what people here consider their NOA1 date, filed or official. I said congrats to the poster. As for ruffling feathers and cutting people slack, I don't need this stress so I will just stop posting and reading now. Have fun and keep the faith April filers. I am going to move on.

Sorry... I know you try to be helpful and supportive, but sometimes it comes off as quite the opposite. Myself as well, I am sure. Thus is the unfortunate thing about internet conversation.

Anyways, I do truly hope that you are able to see your girls soon and finally be with them soon without having to say goodbye rose.gif

I've been posting in this thread since I started this journey and in case you didn't notice this thread is called is April 2009 "filers" and as you can see in my signature I filed April 20th. I'm not gloating, I had noticed that another person received a touch today and I wanted to share the good news that people are getting approved today after a really slow week.

Oh, I think the months are for when you get the NOA1. No problem, just saw the other thread and that you were a May NOA1er. Why do you think you were approved before any April of May NOA1er?

In all honesty it probablly doesn't hurt that I'm Canadian not that I think its fair, I want everyone to get there NOA2's pronto. But I also think based on last Friday there was a huge influx of approvals that maybe for whatever reason they've made it through the H1/2 (whatever work visa it was that was slowing down the K1's) and are now trying to get back on top of things. I expect a huge turn around rather quickly.

uh wow... #######... I take issue with this. It has nothing to do with you being Canadian. I AM Canadian, thankyou, and so is my fiance... he is dual citizen and spent 80% of his life in Canada actually... so don't try to get that involved with it at all. You filed and got your NOA1 within DAYS of me, so unless I get my approval by the end of next week, which I HIGHLY DOUBT, then being Canadian offers no advantage whatsoever. It makes me even MORE annoyed that I will probably be waiting another two months before I see ANYTHING. For NO REASON.

ANYWAYS... congratulations... I know that when I get an approved petition finally I'll be screaming about it... let alone when I finally get the visa... because I know it can be exciting, but just remember that you are WAY ahead of the game for NO apparent reason... and people will be looking at you with jealousy and anger and bitterness at the complete and utter BS of this unfair system.

As for whether or not you are an April filer just because your NOA1 was in May has no relevance so I don't even know why anyone brought that up other than the fact that you apparently post in both threads... I ended up with an NOA1 in May, as attaya mentioned, and haven't even LOOKED at the May thread because I consider myself an April filer, since that was when we frantically got our ###### together and sent it off.... it's not our fault that CSC doesn't always stay on top of things... Same with Allie apparently, and yes, a few others. I've NEVER seen anyone be picky about whether or not someone belonged in a thread (other than between service centres, since they are so different in time lines and what not). If I'm not considered an April filer than why the heck do I bother checking this thread... I know you're frustrated with the delays that have happened usagroom, but cut people some slack. You've ruffled feathers in here before, some of which were my own, but this isn't a time to bring up completely unrelated issues with someone's good fortune..... that said... I did comment on some of those issues, but that was a response, not an initiation. lol I hope your touch is in indication of a quick approval!

I'm actually not surprised at all that the estimated times changed... right now it seems they're going at about 4 months or slightly under... and my previous time was estimating 3.5 months from my NOA1. Of course earlier would be awesome, but I do actually think the slightly later timeframe is probably more accurate. sad.gif

Did you see one of the recent approvals was an October 2008 filer? yikes... crying.gif

Now, in regards to what you posted for Packet 3... I know most of you are the USCs here... but I am not.. I am the beneficiary, I'm trying not to get that confused with the stuff that I have to get since some of that list doesn't apply to me. lol I will forward that on to my fiance though smile.gif
As far as what I am required to dig up, I have been working on getting my vaccines updated (need to get bloodwork done to find it out if i actually need the last one), and I'm getting my cat's vaccines updated too (small detail, but easily forgotten!), have obtained my police certificate, and of course we're keeping records of all our travels still and phone records/emails etc. Sigh.. it's good times
I can't wait... 3 weeks and 3 days until I get to visit! ah!!

And, it doesn't take being a feminist to make someone decide not to do one tradition of the wedding! smile.gif

attaya... I'm glad to hear that Lamine's mom is improving. I hope she continues to do so! rose.gif

like the ring exchange, the vows, the walking down the aisle, etc. ... Some traditions I like, some I don't. ... The history of the veil comes from a number of things like preventing the husband from seeing his bride before they were married, and protecting the bride from demons, and that sort of thing, which just seems silly to me today...

Are you saying you will have no rings, vows, flowers, etc.??? You do not even want to know the "history" of wedding rings if you think veils are bad. biggrin.gif Think about what these things mean in modern times, not what they meant thousands of years ago. Seriously, like I said, choose what YOU feel comfortable in and enjoy your special day!

no no no... I'm saying I WILL have rings and vows and all of that... lol which is why I don't feel the need for a veil. And if I think of what it means in modern times, then the veil is just a vanity thing... I know the history of wedding rings... But what I see rings meaning in modern times is a visual statement that I am TAKEN and have chosen to spend my life with someone and made that commitment. I suppose that's still sort of a sign of 'ownership'... LOL But I don't think of it that way. I prefer the idea that the ring symbolizes the never ending love. smile.gif Besides... if the hubby wears a ring too, then I own him as much as he owns me.. bwah hahaha.... wink.gif

Side note.. Maverick, you have some great connections! lol I hope you're able to meet your deadline smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril 2009 K-1 Filers
We are having a small ceremony, just us and our parents I think, mostly because we know that it'd be too expensive to ask everyone to fly out there for us... so then next July we're coming back to Canada to have a reception/ceremony with our friends/family. It will still be kinda small, only about 75-80 people, but will give us an opportunity to come back and visit and have fun smile.gif

Again... still no on the veil... lol it's a matter of preference. If someone prefers to have them, i think that's great, but if someone prefers no, I also think that's great.
I think there are many points of no looking back that come into the ceremony... like the ring exchange, the vows, the walking down the aisle, etc. I really don't think I'm going to lose any aspect of my day by not wearing a veil, and it will still be a show stopper!! wink.gif haha I'm not a very traditional person anyways I guess. Some traditions I like, some I don't. Traditions without relevance kind of lose their touch. The history of the veil comes from a number of things like preventing the husband from seeing his bride before they were married, and protecting the bride from demons, and that sort of thing, which just seems silly to me today... so I just see them as another type of accessory, like flowers, jewelry, tiaras and such...
On the other hand, if my fiance tells me he'd like me to wear a veil because HE wants to follow that particular tradition, I probably would consider it.. but he's pretty similar to me in that sense, and he's open to whatever, so I don't think it will be a problem. I look at not having a veil as cutting some costs... lol

I really love that hair style Danu biggrin.gif

I'm not sure I'm wearing a veil... Our ceremony is going to be on the beach so it might not work out well to have a veil, and feels too formal for what we had in mind.

C'mon. this is your show that you do only once with the groom. I get the feeling that without a veil of some sort then the bride looks a little naked or informal for such an important event. It isn't a casual event, it is the everlasting union between two people, give us some pomp and circumstance! JMO smile.gif

lol yeah, I see what you're saying, but the veil doesn't really hold a lot of significance for me in terms of tradition or 'meaning', and I certainly don't think that the absence of a veil will take away anything from our day. If I went to our wedding in full ball gown with train and veil it would look REALLY odd, and just not really represent 'me'. Not having a veil won't have anything to do with the union between my fiance and myself. smile.gif

Also, as attaya mentioned with the hair... well, I'm probably not going to want to have anything covering mine either... and might end up with some wind on the beach so the veil blowing around would get annoying laughing.gif srsly...

Attaya... snowy mountain weddings would be very beautiful too!! We have to make sure we all keep in contact enough after this process to see each others wedding photos! laughing.gif

She's awake and they gave her a lot of fluids, and she seems to be doing better now. It's so hard for me to know what's really going on. They kept her at the hospital for a while, gave her some medication, and sent her home. She's sleeping again now. I have no idea what's wrong. She seemed fine a week ago, and I can't imagine what would be progressing so quickly. Granted, I'm not a doctor, but I can't believe how quickly she became ill. Keeping my fingers crossed that she keeps getting better.

That's fantastic on so many levels... I was googling pictures of monster trucks today because my fiance and I were pretend-arguing about what makes a monster truck. He was saying some guy showed up at work with one and sent me a pic. And I was like 'that's not a monster truck! THIS is a monster truck!' and sent him ridiculously huge monster truck pics, and a batmobile monster truck, and a smart car monster truck... hahaha it was so awesome.... laughing.gif

Also, he would love the beer pic good.gif haha

Ashenflowers, have you tried anything on yet or made a decision? We want pictures biggrin.gif

laughing.gif

No, I haven't yet. I need to lose weight first, and probably won't try anything on for a couple of months. For some reason, 'the' dress isn't as big a deal to me as it probably should be! LOL However, that doesn't stop me from looking tongue.gif

I'm kinda going non-traditional. Our ceremony is small/private and on the beach, as I mentioned... and our reception is basically a 'fancy' bbq. laughing.gif
Anyway...
Even though this one is technically a bridesmaid's dress, I like it... the one on the far right... but the sash is a bit too wide and distracting... it's more like something I'd wear to our reception back in Canada.

I also like this one, but I don't like the fit... it has potential to make a girl look preggers when she's not. LOL

I also like this one the most I think, except in more of a white colour (i.e. off white, much less 'cream' coloured, or whatever). It's the one on the right hand side, w/o the flowers... although I don't like the flowery thing on the side of the dress and would probably take it off.

So yeah, they're all different, and essentially I have no idea. tongue.gif
LOL!
I haven't even looked at David's Bridal yet... Those are just from Sears. LOL

My apologies to the guys in the thread for all the dress talk... whistling.gif

yes!! I do biggrin.gif I leave in less than a month to visit... I have a lot on my mind with that too... I'm moving the weekend before I leave, and don't know what to do with my cat while I'm gone, and I'm stressed about how to pay my bills, and my brother's family is moving to Cambodia while I'm gone, so when I leave, it'll be the last time I see them for a LONG time... sad.gif
While I'm in California I'm going to have a lot to do, like looking at apartments, and scouting ceremony locations (on the beach! hehe!), oh, and local photographers for the ceremony.. and getting more familiar with the area, and filling time while my fiance is at work during the day
And we're going to see Aerosmith on the 21st!! HAH!
plus i've been looking into wedding reception stuff up here lately, and getting venue/meal/event ideas... aaaahhhhh

hahah sorry, that ended up being kind of ranty, but I AM excited!! biggrin.gif

k, I feel compelled to speak up, as I am moving to California, and my fiancé lives there currently.... lol
mind you, he IS actually from Canada, and spent 90% of his life in Canada, so he probably doesn't fit the typical 'Californian' description, as he's only lived there for just over a year... and, I've only been to California once, for 2 weeks, and haven't been to 'LA' specifically... (I'm moving to Santa Barbara, which is about a 2 hour drive north of LA).. BUT that said, I really don't think everyone over there is as superficial as some may think! My future in-laws have been living there for 8 years, and are some of the sweetest, non-judgmental and most welcoming people that I have ever met (whereas, my ex's mother was a witch).
In fact, I'VE had moments of doubt in this stupid visa process, and asked my fiancé why he doesn't just find someone there, cause it'd be easier... lol he's never ever given me any doubt about his love and commitment for me... and I'm quite content to move to the 'superficial' land of California for him. smile.gif

So we have to just Skype ourselves silly and so forth. You guys are gonna laugh your head off when you hear this: I sent him my other pillowcase that was on my bed today! Lol, whether he uses it is another story but he brought over a bedspread that he had for a long time and so thats on my bed right now so I thought I'd send him the pillowcase! Ok crazy whatever. He should get it maybe Wednesday or so next week, perfect cause he comes home Monday. I'm gonna be curious if he thinks i sent him something totally stupid!!! But whatever, i thought being we're always on cam, it would be cute to have matching pillows to sleep on! Oh plus, i thought now's the time to start sending snail mail so that when the big papers are due and more interviews or whatever, we will have a huge stack of them to show....so i thought i will bring it up to maybe start sending mail once a week. Dont know about you, but i like getting stuff in the mail!!!

My fiance and I send each other things in the mail quite frequently... not as much as we used to, but still once a month at least. It IS really fun actually, except my packages are usually prettier than his, but I think that's a girl thing tongue.gif LOL

Speaking of pillowcases, don't feel bad! There are websites that sell matching pillow cases for couples! There was actually one that seemed geared towards long distance couples... they were SO CUTE.. I can't find it now though... argh. But I promise to post it if/when I do!! smile.gif

He is so strangely like what I always wanted I truly shake my head every day thinking this is just a dream and I'm gonna wake up soon!! Even his family is perfect for me!! He says that he's not perfect but I say he's PERFECT FOR ME!!! and i actually found a valentines card that said that, i was so surprised! So on his wedding band i'm gonna have engraved "perfect for me" on the inside...ok enough soppy-ness here! LOL. Nigel's on holidays for a week so i am gonna be a bored crabby miserable person cause i cant see or talk to him for a week...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........so lets just say you guys may be listening to me b*&tch for a week! LOL.

Awww Allie, that's sweet. My fiance has said we're not perfect, but perfect for each other too. lol It's cute. I'm sorry you can't see or talk to him for a week. You could consider keeping a week long journal though, in a little notebook or something and mailing it to him when he's back. smile.gif Or keep yourself busy with all the things you never seem to have time to do now that a lot of your time is spent talking to him (if you're anything like me... laughing.gif )

lol I'm hoping for 1/10/2010 as our wedding date as well... with our reception to follow back in Canada exactly 6 months later (7/10/2010). our back up date if we're not approved in time is 2/20/2010. lol Yes, I have issues with numbers too, though they don't have to be 'odd', just neat looking patterns in my head..... laughing.gif

Anyhoo... I'm not sure if we're having children... My fiance wants them, but I have really not decided, and he's ok with that. We're still young... well, kinda... me 28, he 33, so I want a few years together just the two of us, to accomplish things as a couple (i.e. traveling around, enjoying being 'together' finally, just living our lives and building our relationship) before children come in and take over our lives ... lol So if we do have them, it won't be for a few years.

And yes, attaya, I also want to punch/slap people who talk about long distance when they're a few hours from each other. My dentist's assistant tried to 'relate' to me about that... when she was a 2 hour drive from her b/f... UGH.

Well hopefully we will all be reunited with our fiance's by Christmas....or earlier! Knock on wood...lol. Just getting the noa2 is happiness enough for me right now...:-)

Sadly I already know I'm not spending Christmas with mine, regardless... The other difference is also that while we all filed in April, some of us are literally a month apart in our NOA1s, whether we filed at the beginning of april or the end. I'm still just hoping for January 10, 2010 as our wedding date... that's the best I can do sad.gif

I don't want to bring everyone down, but as a realistic person it's what I do.. LOL Depending on the speed of the consulate/embassy, there will still be a few months of the process left to go after we get our NOA2s... I think I have another 3 months, maybe up to 4 months to go after my NOA2 before actually getting the visa... sad.gif

Are you going through MTL or VAN? Looks like MTL is about 2-3 months from them receiving your P3, VAN is 1-2.

MTL... I estimated to give it a month from NOA2 to get the P3, then 2-3 months for the interview.... so yeah.. it adds to an additional 3-4 months sad.gif Oh well.. my 'dream' time is to get there at the start of January, so that's still within a reasonable time frame! Right?! Right?!?!? LOL wink.gif

I'm having a bad 'waiting' week.... maybe it's because it's the 'emotional' time of the month.. I dunno. LOL (tmi, I know)... but I'm really missing him lately... I also think it's because there's some cool events happening in Santa Barbara (where he is), and London, Ontario (where I am), this coming weekend, so we'll both be off doing 'fun' things, but without each other. sad.gif I hate that. I want to share these things with him, and NOT just through videos and talking about them... I want to EXPERIENCE them together!! @$*%)!&$*)! This is one of the hardest parts about this.... sad.gif

Sometimes we use msn messenger, and the webcam feature on that, rather than Skype (Skype doesn't always work for us either).

I know I wasn't pinpointed in the language discussion, but wanted to jump in... lol Both myself and my SO speak English, and only English (I wish I was bilingual, but that's another story which I will refrain from telling as I might inadvertently blame my parents for that lack of cultural upbringing).

Anyhoooo... my sister-in-law is from Cambodia though, and English is definitely her 2nd, or possibly 3rd language. My brother does not speak any Khmer, so he can't communicate with her family except through her. She does well with English, but has a very thick accent, and sometimes issues with grammar, mostly just with pluralization. Occasionally we have a hard time understanding what she is trying to say, but if everyone is patient, we all get on the same page eventually... She's improved a lot though in the years since they've been married and in Canada (moving back to Cambodia though this summer). They plan to raise their kids in Cambodia apparently, and I think will raise them speaking both languages (since my brother only speaks English, and they'd be in an area where bilingualism is much more supported).

Which makes me think... for those of you in a bilingual relationship, will you be raising any possible children bilingually, or just speaking English? Just curious.
