Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)US bank with good exchange rate Euro/Dollar?
Hi all,

Does anybody know a US bank (in Caifornia) offering good exchange rates for wire transfers from European banks?

I have no choice, I will receive Euros directly and not dollars but all US banks I checked had a bad echange rate

Thanks!

True, but Jonjon, who updated the info, had his interview in June... I have receive packet 3 in the end of August so I guess requests have changed inbetween!

I will let you know when I go to the Embassy (soon, hopefully...)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionConsulate In London, I-134 or 1-864?
You are welcome TracyTN. Each Embassy has its specificity... The Paris one has contradicting info on its website vs sent documents, and is very had to contact... But "c'est la vie"

It is written "I-864" 2 times, no mention of I-134 on DS-2001 checklist of packet 3. But I do not see a very strong difference between the 2 excepted the binding system... Sorry too complicated for a frog brain!

Note - 300,000 USD in assets should be more than needed for the affidavit - good for you!

You should wait 2 more weeks before you start worrying... It ook us 1 month to get the packet 3 after NVC sent the files to the Paris Embassy...

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam for K-1 immigrant

I'm curious about the experiences of those of you who have gone through the medical exam in the foreign country or who's significant other did and what the experiences were. Like... what exactly do they test for with the blood tests and what do they ask you to do in the exam?

I know the USCIS website says the blood test is for HIV and syphilis but is there anything else or do they just specifically check only for those?

Thanks to all for your input!

Exam is simple, heart, bood pressure, eyes... medical questionnaire... In Paris blood test is for HIV and syphilis or viruses of that family (VDLR), that is all, also a lung X ray for tuberculosis.
Nothing 'hidden' in the tests...

How can I prove that I will not "become a public-charge"?

It is the US citizen who has to prove that she can pay for eveything, she has to fill an affidavit of support I-134, you do not need to show your assests...

Hope it helps!

Hi All,

I will apply through marriage and permanent residence.

2- Is there a way to know where the Oath Ceremonies take place (Southern Ca) - also can my husband/family members/friends come to the Ceremony and see me become an American Citizen? star_smile.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionIs is better to get the citizenship quickly or can I just wait?
Thanks for the fast answer. At this point, it is money, the fee is 680 USD and I/we need to save a little bit. I think that I remember vaguely that my spouse signed some kind of affidavit, in case I need social security, he would have to help me financially, I would not be eligible as a permanent resident - did I dream this?

Anyway, I love the USA and really feel at home, so yes, I would love to apply soon!

Take care!
Carole

Hello All,

I am now eligible to file for citizenship request. I am wondering if I should apply now, or if I can wait a few months/years. Will it make any difference regarding my rights, such as social security rights (not that I need it anytime soon!) Just wondering ....

Thanks!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN400 US Citizenships - Questions
I came under fiance visa and got married, then got my Greencard. I was not sure if I wanted to get the US citizenship - I take this very seriously and wanted to be sure I felt like a citizen before applying. I think that I am ready to become a full US citizen. Now, I am beyond the 3 years and the 5 years. Do I still need to add information on my spouse, what is the point?

I am happily married but I want to limit the personal info, since I felt my privacy was quite hurt already with the fiancee visa application...

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview and Oath - how soon?
Hello,

Is there a way to know how soon the oath is going to follow the interview for citizenship?

I have seen that the Oath ceremony can occur at the same time. I would like to celebrate and have family attend the oath, so:

Should my family come to the interview so that they are here for the oath? Is family allowed?
How can I know when the oath will occur?

Thanks!

Hi,

My California DL will expire with my Permanent Resident Card. Will I have to go back to the DMV to have it renewed when I get my 10 year Green Card?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo biometric appointment letter received
The reason for the delay could be the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative
http://travel.state....cbpmc_2223.html

On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security.

Middle East and North AfricaFrance to ban Burqas/Niqab in Public?
I totally agree with the French law.

You need to understand France and its values first before you judge this law.

The value is: people should be given the same opportunity to integrate society. The French system is totally SEPARATE from religion.

In your home/backyard you are free to wear BDSM outfits or have your wife wear a burka showing only her eyes.

In public, please do not wear something that can be interpreted as extremely demeaning for female rights.

Peace and love and equality and respect!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWorking
Hi,

I understand her. If she comes under a K1 visa, she can apply for a work permit... But once married, if she does not have a job yet, she must reapply for a new work permit... There is a possibility she does not get the first work permit before you get married because it may take up to 90 days to get it... I am wondering too if I will not directly apply after the wedding rahter than spending 170USD for nothing if I get it too late... :star:

DO NOT PLAN YOUR WEDDING BEFORE YOU GET YOUR VISA IN HAND!
(And don't whine if you do and end up with a scrwewed up wedding, screwed up visa or worse.)
[/quote]

YES BUT YOU NEED TO PROVE THAT YOU WANT TO GET MARRIED BY PROVIDING EVIDENCES SUCH AS CATERER QUOTES!!!
How do you solve the catch 22???

(It is said everywhere that you have to prove:
That the couple previously met within the two (2) years of the date of filing the petition, UNLESS A WAIVER IS GRANTED;
That the couple has a bona fide intention to marry; AND
The couple is legally able and actually willing to conclude a valid marriage in the United States within 90 days after the foreign fiancee’s arrival.)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan someone apply for a K-1 visa while under a student visa in the USA?
Hi,

Can someone apply for a K-1 visa while under a student visa in the USA?

What should a student do to legally marry a US citizen while under a J-1 visa, should he go back to his country and apply for the K-1 after the end of the J-1 or can he apply already while in the USA?

Hope you understand the question... Thanks for helping me
