US Citizenship General Discussionin-line interview question

This happend to me. I got placed in line for interview scheduling on june 7th. I haven't heard anything for more then 3 months now. I called USCIS and they placed me for service request on 7th september. On 17th of september my case status changed with the same stupid status saying they put me in line for scheduling an interview on 17th setember. I tottaly do not know what that means? I wonder if they forgot about my file ranting33va.gif

I thought the same as you that my file had been forgotten as other people were already citizens and I was still waiting for interview letter, but it is based on how busy your district office is, mine is Atlanta and they are fairly slow but others are slower. I believe it says on the online status if it has been more than 90 days since you were placed in line for interview that you should contact uscis. Once you get you letter you will probably still have a wait, my interview isn't until the,17th next month, but the best thing is that you know your file is not lost.

US Citizenship General Discussionin-line interview question

so you signed up but never got updates about "in-line" only when you were scheduled for interview?

I have had email and text updates for every stage so far, biometrics, in line and interview scheduled.

US Citizenship General Discussionin-line interview question

Is there any possibility that one is in-line but never received update and simply got an interview letter? I'm getting paranoid as it's been little over 2 months since my filing date and no in-line update at all compared to most N400 filers.

I signed up for updates via text and email my son did not. We both filed the same day, had biometrics the same day and about 2 months after the biometrics I got a text and an email saying interview was scheduled, he did not as he hadn't signed up, but we both received interview letter the same day.  So yes it is possible just to get the interview letter.

nightingale 59FemaleEngland2013-09-22 00:23:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionHow long did it take to get your letter for interview after biometrics?

I looked on Visa Journey, and noticed people were getting their letter for their interview date only a week or 3 weeks after their biometrics date.  I went in the 3rd week fo August, and I haven't received anything yet.  Should I be worried?

It depends on your district office my interview letter came about 2 months after biometrics and interview is scheduled for about 5 weeks after I received the letter.  Check the times for other people at the same office as you. Good luck.

US Citizenship General DiscussionReport of Atlanta interview.

Congratulations!! My Atlanta interview last year was at 7.15 am. I was there at 6.45, and got sent straight upstairs.

The interviewer was already waiting for me...I was his first one of the day.

He called me straight in....and I was out of the building by 7.10....even before my interview.

I was nervous enough already....so glad I didn't have to wait for hours!!dancin5hr.gif

I guess that the later in the day you are scheduled the more chance for a delay. The people we were sitting opposite told us their appointment was for 11-30 and at that time It was almost 1pm so we know we were in for a long wait, but you dare not leave the building in case you get called.  I am glad it all worked out for you and that you are now a citizen. we are very happy to have been approved.  So the wait for the oath won't seem to bad.

US Citizenship General DiscussionReport of Atlanta interview.
My son and I had our interviews in Atlanta today. Our appointments were for 1pm, we arrived at 12-20pm but we're not allowed to sign in until 30 minutes before our scheduled time. Sign in was on the first floor they take your interview letter tell you which floor to report to give you back the letter and a number. We were both on the second floor, which was crowded and it was not clear at first what we had to do. You have to put your notification letter in a tray on the front desk, then a person behind the desk calls out your number, the one that you were given at check in. You go up to the desk and they take your fingerprints, index fingers only, and take your photo. Then you sit and wait for the IO to call your number. There was a long wait in Atlanta today, over 2 1/2 hours. Numbers seem to be assigned to IOs and so numbers are called out of order for instance 4 people with numbers after mine were called before me so don't worry you probably have not been missed. My number was called and my IO took me through to her office. She asked me to stand while she conducted the oath, then she asked for my green card and drivers license and passport. She asked if my address was still the same and opened my passport to check it was mine. Next she went through the application putting a check mark next to each question as I answered it. Before I realized it she started the test my questions were What is the supreme law of the land What do we pledge allegiance to Who did we fight in WW 2 Who vetoes Bill's What is the capital of GA What is an amendment My son's questions were Who wrote the declaration of independence Name the two major political parties Who is the commander in chief of the military Name a country that borders Mexico Name three of the original colonies What is the political party of the President My sentence to read was where is the white house and to write the white house is in Washington dc My son's was who elects congress and to write the people elect congress Our interviews lasted about ten minutes we were both approved. My son was not asked about his traffic tickets and I was not really asked anything that was not on the application. We were finished too late for a same day oath or even a next day oath. We were told that our oath letters will be sent to us and that we should have our oath within the next two weeks, so we shall see. We finally left at 3-50pm. Our big mistake was not having lunch before we went in. No food or drink is allowed but they do have a vending machine on the first floor, not sure what was in it. Parking is free and we found a space easily. I am very happy that we were approved, good luck to everyone.

US Citizenship General DiscussionPassports for interview

I took my current passport and my previous one as it only expired about a year ago. The IO glanced in my current one to make sure it was mine and did not even look at the expired one so you will be fine.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCan a green card holder travel and still obtain citizenship?

Hey ya'll,

I have looked and looked all over for a definitive answer. My husband is a green card holder and has been here since this January. He of course wants to aim for citizenship. Can he travel now and still get citizenship in 3-5 years? I have seen 2 things: 1) He cant spend more time over seas than here to get citizenship. and 2) he cant travel period until he is a citizen. Which is it?

cray5ol.gif

You can definitely travel outside the US I had my interview last week and I had been back to England twice in the last 5 years, and that was not an issue for the IO, but many people travel for work and so are out of the US much more, the issue is the total amount of time that you are absent from the US and whether the visit was for more than 6 months. I do not know the exact time limits but I am sure someone that does will soon post the details.

I took my current passport and my expired one, that was all I have as others were  long since disposed of. My IO only looked at my current one to verify it was mine.

US Citizenship General DiscussionOath ceremony experience in Atlanta.
My son and I had our oath ceremony this morning in Atlanta. Arrived at 7-50 am for 8 am. All the staff in the office from security through to the immigration officers were very nice. On arrival on the second floor were welcomed by staff who gave us a clip board and asked us to fill out the back of the oath letter, also to sign it and put Atlanta Ga and the date. Next we went to the entrance to the ceremony room where another officer asked us if we were still willing to fight for the USA. Once we said yes they signed our form and sent us into the ceremony room.  A lady came by and collected our oath letters and than another lady collected our green cards and gave us a number that corresponded to our seat number that we were sitting in.

An officer started to tell us what would happen during the ceremony, she got us all to say several times that we would be US citizens, told us how we would stand up as our country's name was called and to stay standing and to keep clapping for everyone. Family and friends were then allowed in and the ceremony began. First we watched a video with pictures of people becoming citizens, then they called out the countries and we all stood up. Once everyone was standing we raised out right hands and took the oath of allegiance. At that time we became citizens, I turned and shook hands with the young Nigerian guy next to me and then hugged my son. We said the pledge of allegiance, and at some point we sang the national anthem. Then we watched a welcome to new citizens speech from The President.  They played the song Glad to be an American. Next we filed up to the front in our seat number order and received our certificates, after that some quick photos and out for breakfast. Ceremony was over in about 45 minutes. It started around 8-40 and we were out by 9-35. There were also people available to sign you up to vote. A wonderful experience.

US Citizenship General DiscussionClarifying questions about Naturalization checklist

I can help you with a couple of parts of your question. I had my interview a few of weeks ago and I took my expired passport which covered most of the time that I have lived in the US and my current passport, I didn't worry about and they didn't ask me for any older ones than that, I have no idea if I even still have them.

As to the number of questions they ask, you are asked 10 from the list of a hundred questions, and as soon as you answer 6 correctly you have passed. When you go for your biometrics you are given a booklet and CD with the questions and answers that are used in the test, the booklet also includes a word list for the writing and reading test.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 under Section 319b, file to Vermont, Phoenix or Fairfax?

I am wondering the same, have you figured it out? Im trying to see if Atlanta is a good place for interview?

I know from experience Atlanta is one of the slower offices for normal filing of N400 but it may be different  for 319b.

US Citizenship General Discussionwhat documents to take to oat ceremony

The only things you need to take to the oath ceremony are your green card, your drivers license or government/state issued ID, and the oath letter.  If anything has changed since your interview, that relates to the questions on the back of the letter, then take evidence of that.  My oath ceremony in Atlanta lasted about 45 minutes, though we were actually there for about an hour and a half as they tell you want will happen in the ceremony.  Remember to take a camera or phone to take pictures. Good luck and enjoy your ceremony.

Yes you do need to list step children. I listed my two step children and my three children, the IO just read their names on the application and moved on, no problem.

US Citizenship General DiscussionI am freaking out! Help - urgent travel after oath!

I went to the passport office in Atlanta last week, there was a guy who needed a passport to travel the next day, they took all his documents and told him to come back in 2 hours and his passport would be ready. Also here in GA we got given a leaflet at our oath ceremony that allowed us to go to the passport office without an appointment or proof of travel. Good luck and enjoy your oath ceremony I am sure that you will be home for Christmas.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion about the selective service System.

What document was it? is it the letter from the Selective service System website? or is there something else I'm missing? Thanks

When he registered they sent him a card and he took that, but I read other people took the letter they got from the selective service agency  proving they registered. I believe that letter takes a few weeks to arrive so apply for it now if you don't have the card.

They asked my son to show proof of registering for the selective service at his interview, they took his document and made a copy. He had to put his selective service number on his application.

US Citizenship General DiscussionFew last minute Interview Questions, coming up in a few days

My IO read the form out to me with the answers I had put, so you do not need to memorize it. She asked about my trips back to England and about my three children and two stepchildren all of which were listed on the form. They want to make sure the information you put is still correct. She started into the civics questions without saying she wad starting the test which was a surprise, but I had learned all the answers so it was not a problem, then she got me to read a sentence and write the answer, she told me the answer, using the simple words listed in the booklet. She briefly looked at my passports current and expired, my green card and drivers license, interview was over in about 10 - 15 minutes.

Wow. Yea that is a lot of places, but Delaware is tiny. 3 more days and it's oath ceremony for you! Seems as though most people have abandoned this thread since their approval lol I'm going to stick around to see the last active person through, and congratulate them. Hopefully you don't mind me asking, but, what are you planning to wear to the oath ceremony? I felt very over dressed for my interview. I don't know if it's because it's LA, or what, but I saw people walk in for their interview in shorts and a T-shirt. lol Hopefully people are more formal for the oath ceremony.

I agree that we should stick with the thread until everyone is through. Didn't see anyone in shorts in Atlanta but we did feel a bit over dressed for the interview, but for the oath everyone was dressed nicely.

Good luck to everyone with an interview coming up and to those with the oath next enjoy the day.

Evening all!

Had my oath ceremony this morning downtown LA....very emotional, was choked up during the whole time and could barely hold back tears

Traffic was the worst part about the whole process.....besides that it was sad I couldn't be sat next to my wife and son; the whole ceremony was probably about 25 minutes long,but the wait to get in and out was about an hour;

Left around 1030,done with my passport application at a post office around 1130 and celebration lunch and a siesta to cap off a very wonderful day !

Thank you all for the feedback, sharing etc good luck for all of those still in the process and patience for those who are waiting to hear back from USCIS !

Congratulations!
