So had my interview today. Went well I thought. Only got asked 6 civics questions as I got them all right.

I did however get the box ticked saying they couldn't make a decision right now. She said it was a big file and she needed to review it. Anyone had experience with this and what the normal timeframe is to hear Amy updates.

I did. I still don't know what was the reason, it could have been (1) I did not write my legal name in my application, my full legal name included my 2nd last name. (2) I spent around 1.8 years out of the country, though a single trip never lasted more than 6 months. (3) I was recently married, and my wife is not a USA citizen or LPR.

Anyways, it took around a month for them to make a decision. I had 2 infopasses, called the NCS at least 3 times, and asked my congressman for help. I am unsure if any of those did anything, but better than nothing.

I also want to note that the RFE status was nonsense. I called NCS to ask again, and they put in a service request (asking for the local office to resend the RFE letter) since it was not possible that the RFE status was a mistake even though I explained multiple times that it was what the local office told me. I also contacted my congressman, and request assistance.

I am unsure whether the service request, the congressman, or just time did it, but I been approved and awaiting my oath ceremony.

Was hoping to post good news, but my interviewing officer told me "If it was up to me, I'd say yes. But it's my boss's decision; I'll recommend he approves you." This was in regard to a couple of trips of more than 6 months out of the country. A few hours later I got an email telling me that there is a "request for further evidence" letter forthcoming.

So, no good news yet. Wondering what further evidence they need, as I submitted tax forms, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. all indicating not having abandoned the US as home.

On a side note, he did say that if approved, it would likely be 2 to 3 months before I'd get in for an oath ceremony. Apparently the Greer SC office is backed up in that regard.

Did they tell you at your interview thats everything is fine and you are recommended for approval or something like that and you got surprised by the online stage requesting more documents afterwards...? Or did they tell you at the interview right away that there is a problem or something like that? Thanks and good luck to you!

I did not get approved on the interview. On the form that they give you back, it said "we need to further review your application". I tried to get more information out of the IO, but all she told me was "I need to review this again". A few hours later, my status was changed to RFE.

May I ask how many months you were out of the USA since you got your first Green Card and whether this is year three of year five for you?

My wife is in line for an interview. The rules say that she should not have been out of the country for a total of more than 5 months over the last three years and we have been out of the country for 4.5 months in the last three years. If she needs extra documents of some type to explain that, I sure would appreciate knowing before the interview.
