United KingdomWhere do UKC's buy furniture in the US?
oops, i meant to also include.... For sofas, loveseats, chairs.... go to SofaExpress. Usually they have 100s of style and brands and if you can find one that you like but not in the right color and fabric you can pick one you do like... as they carry different colors, fabrics, and patterns for most of their sofas.

You all should find your local outlet mall. There is one in Washington Court House for those of you in Cincinnati or Columbus areas. It is about a half an hour up Interstate 71. There is a Pottery Barn Outlet store up there that is INCREDIBLY cheap. And like Deviletter and Tim and Bethanie said.... check out charity shops. Cincinnati has some REALLY good charity shops... you're best bet is to check out ones in the 'upper class' areas, such as West Chester, Hyde Park, Loveland, Montgomery and Kenwood. If you need directions you can PM me... I remember where most ###### is. Also check out your local flea markets too alot of times you'll find antique dealers set up in them. There is Traders World up on N. Intersate 75 before you get to dayton. There is also Turtle Creek just before Traders World. One of them is on the same exit as Hustler Hollywood(I point that out because the sign is HUGE). Also Ohio and Pennsylvaina are the lands of the Amish. Go look around at an Amish village, you can find BEAUTIFUL hand carved furniture and you'll be supporting a very cool culture. Not to mention you can get the BEST food in Amish towns.

United KingdomWhat's "your" song?
Our song is "My Heart Belongs to You" By the Bully Boys. ... it describes us perfectly. Down to the sweet little girl that is daddy's pride and joy.

Momma don't worry, Daddy's alright
Been a long day, Commin' home tonight
I know it's a struggle, When I'm not around
Gotta make ends meet to stay alive.

Dealt with a lot over the years
We shared many smiles, Shed a few tears
We built a foundation to weather any storm
and nothing can tear it apart.

We lived a life both high and low
watching our family grow
The best days are yet to come
and this I promise to you.

The good times the bad times
and the trials that we've been thru
You're alright you know I'm alright
My heart belongs to you. (2x)

Sweet little child you're Daddy's pride
In me you can always confide.
You bring me inner peace and faith
your smiles me the world to me.

Anger and neglect you'll never know
in safety and happiness I'll see you grow
My hearts filled with pride and joy
when I hear your sweet little voice.

The good times the bad times
and the trials that we've been thru
You're alright you know I'm alright
My heart belongs to you. (2x)

My heart belongs to you,
my heart belongs to you,
my heart belongs to you,
My heart belongs to you.

United KingdomFriend is looking for a Scottish Husband

She might want to try an Irishman.

Accent without the attitude. ;)

So big deal some girl likes Scotsmen. And besides that - most of the thread is hilarious.

Accent without the attitude. What part of Northern Ireland is your husband from?

But dear God do I love my husband's accent. We've been married two years(almost) and certain words he says still send shivers down my spine. TO ALL OF YOU WHO THINK ALL IRISHMEN HAVE THE "HOLLYWOOD" IRISH ACCENT... THEY DON'T. SOME HAVE EVEN BETTER.

United KingdomFriend is looking for a Scottish Husband

hahaha As someone who has a Scottish husband, and male Scottish friends, and a brother-in-law, let me be the first to say - no she really doesn't :P *hides*

Aside from that, I don't think this is really a site for Scottish singles, considering most folks looking to immigrate are married, engaged, or wildly insane ;)

Good luck with that though!

PS My hubby says to make sure she knows, Mel Gibson is not Scottish, and not all Scottish males wear kilts, toss cabers, or have big fuzzy ginger beards, the only blue parts of his body have occurred due to extreme cold, and c*nt is a term of endearment! ;)

That's what my IRISH husband says... hahahaha. And marrying people who are ginger and having ginger kids while it may seem like a splendid idea is a lot of hard work. I know. I have 2 ginger children, one boy one girl and a ginger husband.

United KingdomHow Did You Meet Your USC/UKC?

Online in a dodgey chat room. ;)

The usual drill of eventual private chats, then emails, then his first phone call wherein I got to hear that lite Northern Irish accent where every sentence sounds like a question. Oh, and I got to hear his laugh. Which pretty much did me in.

Five months later he visited me for three weeks. On his return visit to me three months later, we dropped the I129F in the Fed Ex box and the rest is history. We didn't waste much time - we're old.

I don't deserve him. But he doesn't deserve me either. So that makes us even - and happy.

That sounds a lot like us. You said Dodgey....you can tell your husband is from NI and I want to say Derry.

We met on a sub-culture message board. He was making fun of my good friend and ranting about how so many Americans are "plastic paddys" and I PMed him and told him to knock it in the head. It went from there and then I realized he had a girlfriend. So I tried to stop flirting... it didn't take long for him to tell me he was on the verge of dumping her anyways. We met in May 2005. We talked pretty much everyday e-mails on our cells at work to aol IM on my phone at work(5 hour time difference). We went around drunkenly telling people we were going to get married. I will never forget hearing his sexy accent for the first time.... it still makes me melt. He came to see me in July 2005. We were engaged before he left. We were constantly filling out paperwork and then decided we just couldn't wait and there was only one form to fill out to get me and my son to Northern Ireland. So he came back in Sept. 2005 and we married on Oct. 4, moved to Ireland on Oct. 16, had a beautiful little girl in Aug. 2006.
We do things fast.

Thinking about heading home. But not sure yet.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresProbably been asked before but here goes.

then you'll have to petition through a US service centre. Read the guides for I-130 and I-129F for CR1/K3 processes.

Yes, if you have US family willing and able to joint sponsor your husband, that is allowable and possible. You would be the primary sponsor as his spouse, and you will have to have a US address.

What are your children's status? Are they both US citizens?

Yes, both of my children are US citizens. My son was born there. My daughter was born here in Ireland but will get her Certificate of Naturalization when she enters the states.

So do I need to move back to America, before him?
That and here in Ireland i don't have a job and haven't worked since I've been here(stay at home mom). But I will work in America(because I like working). So do I need to go back to the states and get a job and a 'domicile' before even starting to file? Thank you.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAmusing

Just had to send my wife and kid back up to Canada so they could get the baby shots, help her pregnant sister out and wait for the interview time. Really sucks, miss them a lot already :(

So I just was updating my sig and I noticed something amusing. 1 year to the day after I mailed the I-130 to USCIS I mailed the DS230 to NVC.
Every day the jerk me around with this paperwork is another day I don't get to see this :(

Dylan Chris and I are thinking of starting this whole process too. When we get to the states, I'm going to steal your daughter. Btw... this is Janelle.

So once the K3 visa is approved you have 2 years from the date on the visa to enter the US? I knew it was good for 2 years but I thought you had to enter the country in 90 days. If that's the case them I'm talking my husband into filing NOW. I don't want to wait any longer to get this started.

elmcitymaven,

No, not any longer at all. The K1 visa is valid for 6 months, the same as the immigrant visa, the K3 is valid for 2 years.

Yodrak

Thank you so much. You all have been so helpful. I appreciate it.
One last thing... when your IR-1 visa is approved how long do you have to enter the US? I know some of the visa is about 90 days. But if you are going in with a G.C. what's the time? Thank you.

You must enter within 6 months of the date when the IR1 visa was granted -- much longer than the non-immigrant visas.

You all have been so helpful. I appreciate every bit of information you've given me.

Margot about the tax returns. I've been a stay at home mom so I haven't filed. Well I filed the last tax return from here which was income I had made in the US. I have NO US accounts open. The only bill I've had from the states is my student loan which is being paid on by me sending the money home through paypal and family sending it in.

About the co-sponsor; at first we will probably stay with family until we both get jobs, but we will move out quickly afterwards. Do you think I would still need a co-sponsor for all of us or would it be fine to just put my income as $0 with a joint sponsor? thank you you all rock

Thank you so much you have NO idea how much of a relief that is. At what point do you think I should go back to the states and get a job and whatnot... or can I just wait until his IR-1 is approved and we can all go together.

That was SO helpful.... I could hug and kiss you. :D Or even bake you cookies. B)

Your sig says you moved to Ireland 2 years ago. Can't you do DCF? Save some time, get an IR-1 and the 10 year GC upon arrival, save some money, stay with your husband until he gets the visa? Unless you have some other compelling reason to come back to the US to go through the USCIS service centers.

I called the US Embassy in London they said I couldn't do a DCF because I am not a PR. My husband brought me to Northern Ireland(part of the UK still) with his Irish Passport because it was free and FAST. If you live in N.I. you have dual citizenship. So he brought me here as a Family Member of an EU national. The EEA Family Visa. Our residence here is based on his continued Employment in the UK. If he lost his job we would have to do the immigration process for the Republic of Ireland and move there(which is only like a 10 minute drive from our house).

Over here I have been a stay at home mom since we arrived. So I have no income. I could easily find a domicile in the states. So if I filed for the IR-1 could I stay here and send it to the consulate or is that only for DCF?

My big question I guess is.... Can I stay here and file if I have a joint sponsor? Because everything I read about "if the USC and the foreign spouse live overseas" is the DCF. I'm not sure how to even go about this process. Obviously the last thing I want is for either of us to be away from our children.

Unfortunately USCIS doesn't matter the fact that families with children are separated. Like Nfgirl we have baby too - 7 months old and my husband wasn't able to be present even for the birth. Moreover - one of the many times when he spoke with the officers from USCIS a lady told him that because of the child our process can be longer. There are more papers to be reviewed. I am shocked. The policy of USCIS is so inhuman.

Good luck and fast approval.

WHAT? how could your baby slow up the process? It seems like the only extra paperwork would be your child's birth certificate. See... this whole thing makes me want to ..... :crying:

I have been reading thread after thread and post after post and noticing that some of you have been waiting quite awhile. I also noticed that most people who filed last year took an average of 6 months to get their loved one in the country, so that gives me hope.

I have two children. One who will be 7 and one who will be 18 to 24 months when we start this process. I will be going back to the states with my children and leaving my husband behind so that I can fulfill all of the requirements for this stupid process. How many of you who are still waiting on your visas have children? Does the USCIS take that into consideration as well as the fact that we will have been married for 2+ years when we file?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIs Pregnancy A Problem?
No you do not have to file again. If you're a US citizen then your child is by default also. You will just have to go to your Embassy take her full birth certificate and fill out some form and then get an American Passport. Upon entry to the US it gets stamped and that is PROOF of your baby's citizenship. They may send some paper that is sort of like a citizenship/born on foreign soil, but I am not sure.

My daughter was born in Ireland. It looks INCREDIBLY EASY. Go to the Indian US Embassy's website and look under passports I think.

I am seriously confused here. I am definetly going to need a co-sponser, but I read on the USCIS website that they couldn't be grandparents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, etc. Does this mean that only my mom could be my co-sponser? She has a family total of 4 and I have a family total of 4. Does that mean that she would have to make enough to support all 8 people or would her and my stepfather both be co-sponsers?

oops... this should be in the K3 visa section. I can't move or delete it. Sorry.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion regarding sending money to spouse

I think I've read somewhere that GC fraud may be suspected if "money changed hands" ..
Now, money changes hands between husband and wife all the time, no?
I would be careful if it was beneficiary sending money to the USC.
This could be considered suspicious

Rika

What if the petitioner has two kids with the beneficary and lived with them in their country for 2+ years and only moved home to start the immigration process? Do you think they would still consider it suspicious for them to be sending money then? Especially if it is some place where the currnecy exchange is more than the dollar?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresProbably been asked before but here goes.

I have been reading posts on here about a IR-1 visa. What is this exactly and how do I file for one? My husband and I will be married for 2 years in October. I REALLY don't want to go back to the states for an unknown amount of time without him seeing as how we have a 6 year old and a 10 month old. We are looking for the quickest way to get back to the states. So what is the catch?

Also, we read somewhere that if both the USC and the foreign national live abroad that you can have a family member sign the Affidavit of Support. Please let us know what is true and what isn't. Reading all of this gets REALLY confusing after a while.

Try the link in my first answer. If you have specific questions after reading the DCF guide, please ask them in the DCF forum.

Yes, if you qualify to file DCF and the interview occurs after your two year wedding anniversary, you'll have an IR1 visa.

I called the London US Embassy just now and they said, Since I am not a permenant resident I cannot file through them. I'm not a permenant resident because my husband brought me here on his Irish Passport, because they have dual citizenship. But because we live in the North I don't think we can file a DCF through the Dublin Embassy either.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresProbably been asked before but here goes.
My wife is a US citizen. She and I were married a year and a half ago, have lived in Ireland since then and have a baby daughter together. Due to circumstances potentially beyond our control we may have to relocate to the US in the near future (a year to 18 months down the line). I seemed to remember reading some US Immigration details reffering to a simplified process for those living outside the US as man and wife for a set period of possibly three years but can no longer locate it. I am looking for any confirmation or denial of this fact. Will we have to go through the same process as everyone else? We can start the process now as we have the time to do it, however it would mean that I cannot enter the country for visiting relatives or if an emergency were to arise. My wife is from the Midwest where we would be living and on visting their immigration office we were informed that he process was fairly straightforward and quick because it is not a common destination for immigrants. In fact I couldve overstayed my visa and applied from the US. But we decided to move back here and until now that was the plan. I have zero criminal record and have never overstayed any visa in the US. Thank you in advance for any help.
