USCIS Service Centershow to speak to a person at uscis

Wa alaikum salaam!

Its hard to figure out which selection to pick to get to a human.  I tried to use the press "0" trick but that didnt work.  So eventually I googled "Call USCIS," and used the information below to actually speak to a person!  Insha Allah Khair this helps you.

Salaam alaikum!

New Call Menu for USCIS 1-800 Customer Service Number

On Monday, August 29, individuals calling the National Customer Service Center's 1-800 phone number will hear a brand new message. This redesigned Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system provides customers with streamlined access to immigration information, case status, and customer service representatives.

The old IVR had 10 main menu options for the customer to listen through in order to make a selection.  The redesigned IVR has only 3 main menu options.  This redesign has cut the amount of time required to listen to the entire main menu from 2 minutes and 50 seconds to only 38 seconds.

The new 3 main menu options are:  Immigration Services, Immigration Information, and Special Programs and Other Resources.

Callers can press 1 to hear information on Immigration Services including:

  • Case status
  • Forms
  • Locating a USCIS office
  • Civil surgeons
  • Change of address

Attorneys, community based organizations, and employers should also press 1.

Callers can press 2 to hear information on Immigration benefits and processes including:

  • Interviews
  • Biometrics
  • Requests for evidence
  • Background checks
  • Processing times

Callers can press 3 to hear information about Special Programs and other Resources including:

  • Kaplan action law suit
  • Temporary Protective Services
  • Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act
  • Reporting immigration scams

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Package IV - Police Certificates & Translation - Morocco

Hi All,

I am trying to get together everything for my husbands Package IV.

I am living with him in Morocco and I am not sure where I should go with him to get the correct police certificate.

In Morocco you can either go to the Ministry of Justice in Rabat and get a background check - which would state any offenses or arrests that they have on you or you can get a Certificate of Residency - which says where you live and how long you have lived there etc.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a "police certificate" from the local police.

Anyone know where I should go??

As for translations I have all of our documents with the originals of the translations from our I 130 - which were done by a translator from the US Embassy Website in Casablanca - do I still need them to write a letter staying they are qualified to translate our documents?

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Technical Difficulties - Paying Visa Fees Online

Oh and as to why I couldn't pay the fee online - it was an issue with the internet browser I was using - I was using Mozilla Foxfire and once I switched to Google Chrome - I was able to pay the fee quickly and easily.  I did need my check and routing numbers to input but other than that easy as pie!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Technical Difficulties - Paying Visa Fees Online

Hi All!

I got my email from the NVC last night asking me to pay the AOS fee online.

I signed into the website and selected the fee and the pressed the button to pay the selected fee.

The indicated $88 balance zeroed out and didn't move me to the next page.  I refreshed the page and tried again and again - nothing changed.

Any ideas as to why this happened?  Noticed I could also snail mail payment to them but since I am located abroad that would take 2 weeks or more - could I have my mother who is in the US pay via check since she is also on my bank account for me?

Thanks

Ally and Omar

National Visa Center (Dept of State)August 2013 - I -130 Filers - Approved - NVC Updates & Progress

Hi All!

I found the forum thread in a different forum that was organized by filing month so helpful I thought it might be helpful to create one for those of us who are now beginning the journey through the National Visa Center.

My husband's I 130 case was approved 3/13/14 and I called today to see if his case had arrived at NVC.  No it isnt in the system yet after waiting 30 minutes on hold ( I called at 6:30pm).

I also asked about opting in for the email program for NVC -where you can email documents in and save time and money on postage and was told that I wouldn't be able to do so because I was located in Morocco.  Anyone else been told something like that?

Thanks!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Receiving Case # by email

Hi All

I wanted to update you.  So I was told that it would take 20-30 days to get a response from NVC via email but - good news I got all my case #, invoice id etc - via email in two days.  So perhaps email IS the way to go.  I hope all you have a fast response to your emails if you sent one.

Hi! Just want to ask this. I can't get thru with NVC numbers and I know I need to be patient but you said I can inquire thru email if they received our papers from USCIS. Is this possible? Because from what I understand and read, you can only inquire if NVC received your papers thru telephone operators. If I can inquire thru email, how many days should I expect a reply from them? Thank you

Hi Purpleblush,

From my conversation with other visajourney folks on the Facebook group an email answer takes 20-30 business days.  However if your having trouble getting through to the NVC - call during their non peak hours such as 8pm - Midnight or right when they open at 7 or 8 am in the morning east coast time.

Hi!

You can send an email to NVCINQUIRY@state.gov .

You will need to enter the USCIS receipt number from this approval notice in the SUBJECT line.  In order to receive information about your petition, you will need to include the Petitioner's name and date of birth, and the Applicant's name and date of birth, in the body of the email.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)What happens after i-130 is approved

That's good to know! Last thing I read they said it took much longer to get email responses. But 2 days is, in my opinion, totally reasonable!

I think two days is great and saves me the hassle of being kept on hold on the phone for 30 minutes at a time - calling from outside the US.  People told me it could take 20-30 days to get a response - so when I heard back in two I was really surprised.

If you don't want to spend a bunch of time on the phone with the NVC you can also send an email to them at nvcinquiry@state.gov

Put your USCIS case number in the Subject line of the email.

In the body of the email include your USCIS Case number again - full legal name of both you and your spouse with your dates of birth.

Make sure to specifically ask for the NVC case #, Your Invoice ID and Benefitary's ID number.

They got back to me in two days.

Good luck

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Affidavit Of Support/AOS - Page 6 Part 6 Item #13 a, 13b and 13c - what line to use from the 1040?

Hi All,

I just got a checklist from the NVC on Page 6, Part 6 Item #13a, #13b and #13c - I used the income from line 22 and got a checklist telling me to correct the amount put on line #13a - when I asked the NVC agent on the phone which line I should use from the 1040 - I was told to use line 22.

Why was I told to use line 22 from my 1040 if that was incorrect and I got a checklist because of this?

What line should I be using to fill in #13a, #13b and #13c - if line 22 from the 1040 yields the incorrect information?

Please help me so my husband and I can get our case complete!

Thank you!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Past the NVC 60 calendar day wait period and nothing... anyone else in the same boat?

Well we got the expedite approved - Yippie! on 9/16

Took NVC until 9/18 to send out the case via DHL to the Casablanca Consulate

Case arrived at the Casablanca Consulate 9/22

and today my husband go the call from a consulate officer - and they gave him his interview date over the phone! 10/10

I tried to call the Casablanca consulate to follow up - as in get a paper copy of the interview letter - a list of any documents that my husband needs to bring to his interview and it was a PIA - a freaking nightmare to just get to the immigration department and speak to a HUMAN!

Then my phone cut out because I used all my minutes - calling, recalling, getting routed to unset up voicemail boxes, calls dropped etc.

SMH.

I will call try to call tomorrow using Google Voice - to see if I can save $

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Past the NVC 60 calendar day wait period and nothing... anyone else in the same boat?

I am in the same situation. My 60 days from receiving the documents was up last Tuesday, and from scanning 60 days is today. I am waiting till the end of the week and then I will be taking some action. I am sick and tired of calling them.

Hi Helena,

Yes I totally understand.  KEEP calling however - ALWAYS speak with a supervisor.  Ask them to put a request for your case to be reviewed in the system.  Make sure to ask what the time is for the paperwork to be reviewed after the request is put into the system.

Since your abroad in Poland - I am guessing - download a free VPN from cnet.com - and get a Google Voice account.  Launch the VPN - then using Google Voice call the NVC for FREE from Poland - yes its a pain in the butt to be on hold for 30 minutes or more each time - if possible call when NVC opens at 7am in the morning to ensure less of a wait time.

Good LUCK!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Past the NVC 60 calendar day wait period and nothing... anyone else in the same boat?

Hey,

I am currently waiting on my NVC case number. I noticed that you emailed them for it and received it that way? When your I-130 was approved did you get a letter from USCIS stating that "we have sent the original visa petition to NVC" and that you should wait for them to send a case number? Because I have waited a month now, and have not received a case number yet...

Also, are you filing from US? Did you get I-130 approved abroad and then came to US and filed for AOS? or why is your case going through NVC? I am in a similar boat and would like to know if that's possible..

I hope that your situation resolves quickly with NVC! Good luck!

So I emailed NVC at NVCinquiry@state.gov - the email included my husbands USCIS reciept number, my name & DOB and my husbands name & DOB.  I specifically asked for my husbands Case Number, Invoice Number and beneficiary id number.  They replied to my email within 30 days with the information I requested.

I currently live in Morocco - and what I do is I send my packets to my mother who then sends them to the NVC for me - I also make sure to put my home address as my mother's address in the US.  They have residency requirements that NVC will enforce if you put your permanent address as your address abroad.  The only way its ok to do so is if you have proof of employment for the last 3 years or something like that - I don't remember all the specifics.

I have been abroad in Morocco since we started our visa process on August 18th 2013.  Our I 130 was approved with me living abroad.  My husbands case is a CR1 - Spousal visa and to my knowledge all visas at some point go through NVC.

As for them finally reviewing our paperwork we sent in - 72 days from our scan date of July 8th they finally reviewed it and sent us another checklist.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Past the NVC 60 calendar day wait period and nothing... anyone else in the same boat?

Hi!

I sent in corrections for my AOS packet which arrived on July 3rd at NVC and were scanned in on July 8th.

As of Friday 09/05/2014 we have met the 60 calendar day wait period that we were notified of by email about on 08/01/2014.

I have called every day since my husband and I hit day 55 of the 60 day wait - and NVC hasn't even looked at the paperwork we submitted.

I called back on 09/05/2014 - and the NVC call rep Paola told me she put a note on my husbands case for a supervisor to review our paperwork.

Is ANYONE else in the same boat - 1. Having passed the 60 calendar days without NVC reviewing their documents/case?  2. Having gone past the 60 calendar day wait? 3. Had a note put on their case and had NVC take swift action??

Thanks - Ally & Omar

Get a new passport - if its taking to long or you apply for the new passport too close to the interview - bring the receipt of the passport to the interview - so the consular officer knows the new passport is in the works.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)is there anyway to expedite NVC processing?

Salaam alaikum,

There is no way to expedite the NVC reviewing the paperwork or information sent in.  You can request a case expedite - which is where your entire case moves to the Consulate and you provide all the documentation that you would to NVC at your interview date.

The reason for an expedite must be extremely compelling specifically the following are listed on the USCIS website and also apply to the NVC:

  • Severe financial loss to company or individual
  • Extreme emergent situation
  • Humanitarian situation
  • Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States
  • Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government)

Use the following outline to request a case expedite -

Subject Line of Email:  Case Number : XXXXXXXXXXXX Expedite Request, PI Supervisor

Case Number:

Invoice ID Number:

Beneficiary ID Number:

Principal Applicant:

Date of Birth (DOB):

Email Address:

Phone:

Petitioner:

Date of Birth (DOB):

Email address:

Phone:

I, ( Insert Name of Person Requesting the Expedite) am formally requesting that my (insert relationship ex. husband, fiance etc) (insert full legal name) case is expedited.

State the main reason for your expedite request clearly in the first sentence here.

Then follow up with your reasoning to support your expedite request in the following paragraphs.

Attach any evidence or documentation to the email.

Send email to : NVCexpedite@state.gov

InshaAllah this information is helpful.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Expedite request at NVC questions

Salaam alaikum and Hello,

The most important thing is to attach your STRONGEST evidence to your expedite request that you first send.  The second is that because NVC doesn't have a webpage explaining how to do the expedite - or a format for the email - its a stumbling block for 99% of those who request an expedite - that they get denied or an email telling them to send in the correct information in the email.

Use this outline when you send in the request the next time -

Subject Line of Email:  Case Number : XXXXXXXXXXXX Expedite Request, PI Supervisor

Case Number:

Invoice ID Number:

Beneficiary ID Number:

Principal Applicant:

Date of Birth (DOB):

Email Address:

Phone:

Petitioner:

Date of Birth (DOB):

Email address:

Phone:

I, ( Insert Name of Person Requesting the Expedite) am formally requesting that my (insert relationship ex. husband, fiance etc) (insert full legal name) case is expedited.

Then follow up with your reasoning to support your expedite request in the following paragraphs.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Calling Nvc

Lines open at 7am NY time /East Coast time.   If the lines are busy keep calling back!

I start calling at 7am NY time from Morocco which is 12 pm noon here in Morocco.

I average a wait time of once I get through between 25 - 40 minutes on hold.

I always request to speak to a supervisor as the NVC normal staff have told me all sorts of misinformation when I was dealing with them.

I also always take notes of the wait time, what representative I talked to, name of the supervisor I got transferred to and the questions that I asked and the answers to those questions.  So if the call gets dropped - I can say I was speaking to X person when I called .. can I please speak to them again ??

I also was super nice and polite  to every person I spoke with regardless of how much I wanted to throat punch them through the phone at times.

I hope that helps.

Salaam alaikum,

You are going to want to not send EVERYTHING - but the STRONGEST evidence.  If the consulate needs more evidence - this is why you include contact information for the petitioner and the benefitary of the expedite.

I also agree with scanning at a lower resolution, using a zip file and/or dropping evidence into the body of the email.

InshaAllah that helps.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWife overstayed tourist visa, what are chances of K-3 approval?

Hi again Darryn,

Well to be completely honest I have no clue with regards to your new questions.  My gut feeling is that because your wife over stayed her original visa and the other issues you mentioned perhaps it would be wise to get an immigration lawyer's advice.  I know that a lawyer can be expensive however it could save you a lot of time to know in advance if immigration is possible for your wife and what challenges individuals in your situation encounter.  So to make effective use of your time make a list of questions - email in advance your story/explaination to the lawyer you pick and ask if they offer a sliding scale payment for their services.

I wish you and your wife the best of luck!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-3 Spouse Visa

So first congrats on your wife winning the DV lottery and getting married!

The evidence that USCIS likes to see is things (besides your marriage license) -

Photos from over the duration of your relationship - ex vacations, family events, funny shots you took just because in addition to wedding photos - remember to date and caption them on the back of the photo in permnant marker

*You can also include photos if her family or friend have visited you in your home country - when she has visited as well.

Lease for an apartment or ownership papers on a piece of property with both your names

Birth Certificates for any children you have together

Joint tax returns

A bank statement with both you and your wife's names as account holders

Affidavits - Which are letters written by people who attended your wedding and/or have first had knowledge of your relationship with your wife - they are swearing that your relationship is real and a true marriage.  These letters should be legalized by a notary of the public and sent as the originals not copies as other items above can simply be copies.  If written in a language other than English - they should be translated by a approved translator which can be found on the local embassy website and a copy of the translation along with the original should be sent to USCIS.

Chat logs - you can copy and past them into a word document - remove any items you wish to keep between you to and not share with the USCIS - and then print them out and send them in.

All of these things will help your K-3 application.

Good luck

Letters - that you may have exchanged

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3

Hello & Salaam alaikum Bashar,

If your wife was born in Russian then that is her original nationality.  I think the important question to ask is does she hold dual nationality with Russia and Jordan?  The follow up question to that is - what passport does she carry and/or use to travel?

Based on those answers it will help me help you - InshaAllah.

Salaam Mimo - If you submit a I130 and once you get your receipt you can then do the paperwork at no extra cost except the postage to then send in a K-3 visa application.  However you must be aware that if your I130 is approved before the K-3 that the K-3 visa case track closes and you are stuck with the I130/CR-1 visa track with your spouse.  However if the K-3 is approved first then the I130 case track closes.  Does that clarify it for you?

Allah knows best.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresi-130? K-3? something else? Need advice please

I think your best option is #1.  I think that realistically a little disappoint is better than the hardship of being away from your wife.  The I 130 process for my husband and I is now it in the 7-8th month and we probably will be done within the year.  I am 31 years old too and I decided to stay with my husband because - god willing - there is always time for me to go back to the US get a job and start a masters program.  I know your probably thinking the distance won't put much strain on your marriage but it will.

As for the baby making plans - why not start trying now?  There is never a perfect time to have a baby and I have heard great things on how supportive Japanese culture is of pregnant women and mothers.  I would also probably be less stressful for baby #1 to have the support of your wife's family during the pregnancy and birth as well as afterwards.

Just my two cents.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCan apply for K-3 after applied for IR1? Should I?

Hi Texan!

Its too late in the visa process to switch to the K-3 as the I- 130 has been approved.  If you have sent the 1-130 and the K-3 application in at the same time it would have depended on which got approved faster - the K-3 or the I-130 and depending on which was approved first - the other case would close.

The NVC is currently dealing with huge delays due to USCIS finally getting their butts in gear and meeting their target goal on each case getting approved or denied in 5 months.  However it appears as if the NVC hasn't hired more staff or prepared for the sudden increased work load.

Most IR-1 visa processes depending on the consulate take between a year and 18 months.

Any paperwork you submit they have to reply to within 30 BUSINESS DAYS - so its long but each packet should take about a month and a half to get a response from them - so again - get your paperwork together now!

You can also email the NVC at nvcinquiry@state.gov

Type your USCIS or NVC case number in the subject line and ask about only one case per email.

Email them and request the following -

Your Benefitary ID #

Your NVC Case ID #

Your Invoice ID#

Remember to put your name, your wifes name and both of your date of birth's - and indicate which is the petitioner and which is the benefitary.

With these three things you can then prepare your AOS, DS3032 (paper none electronic version) start sending in your packets without having to have a barcode.  You will also be able to make payments online.  Then NVC will be playing catch up - and you will just wait for them to unlock online the DS260 /DS261.

I hope this helps.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSo is going for K-3 pointless?

I applied for the K-3 with my I 130 and it never went anywhere.  After 6.5 months of waiting our I-130 was approved in March 2014 and now we are stuck at NVC with the new 60 +/-  day waiting period.

God willing we will get a case closed soon.  So just be prepared for the process to slow down once your case gets to the NVC as they haven't hired more staff to deal with the increased case influx from USCIS.

i have heard that they don t send any letter only after 3 weeks after the approval of the expedite

only a date of the interview from a call  is not really something to count on it

Hi Zawa9,

You could send a follow up email to the consulate at ivcasablanca@state.gov

Put yours or your husbands NVC Case # in the subject line and in the body of the email make sure to include the petitioners full name, date of birth, contact information and the same for the benefitary.

You need to be able to prove that an expedite is warranted for your case.  In my case I have issues of finiancial hardship and being pregnant in Morocco living in an area without access to quality prenatal care.  So those are my two reasons - I elaborated on that in the email outline that I used below - and attached evidence such as my bank account, ultrasound photos etc.

I hope your request for an expedite goes smoothly.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCase Expedite Approved - Casablanca - Morocco : Help!

My husband got his case expedite approved 9/16.  Case sent to consulate 9/18.  Arrived at Casablanca Consulate 9/22 via DHL. Today the consulate called my husband and gave him his interview date over the phone.

I am wondering if he will get a follow up letter - with a hard copy of the interview letter and a list of the things he needs to bring etc?

Has anyone else gotten a case expedite through the Casablanca Consulate and can help me with this?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRemoving Green Card Conditions -IR/CR1- We will arrive in the US with less than 90 days

90 days before your 2 year green card anniversary not wedding anniversary. When he receives and receives his green card the expiry date will be on it.  So you arrive November you would be filing 21 months from that date.

Can I suggest why not arrive in US after your wedding anniversary. He will get a 10 year green card and no removal of conditions.

dwheels76,

Thats a great suggestion.  Only problem I am pregnant and the medical care here in Morocco is horrible where we live and we can't afford to commute every month to a larger city to see a OB/GYN.  I really would prefer to give birth back in my state with my mom and in my home country the USA - where everyone speaks my language - English!  I have heard to many horror stories of botched births here in Morocco from women I know personally or through a mutual friend to trust giving birth in Morocco with my husbands and I's first baby!

My husband agrees with me as he works as a fire fighter here and knows the state of the medical system is ok to crappy at best.

Thank you again for that suggestion - we would do if we weren't pregnant :)

Do you know if we can file to remove conditions early??  Like once my husband gets his green card?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRemoving Green Card Conditions -IR/CR1- We will arrive in the US with less than 90 days

Hi All!

So my husband has his interview on 10/10/2014.  However we won't fly back to the US until late November/ early December most likely after the interview date.  My husband has to wrap up leaving his government job here in Morocco, sell items from our apartment and move in to my in laws pack etc before we leave.

Our anniversary is 3/8/13 and if we fly back in early December - we will no longer have time to file as USCIS in the instructions demands we file for removal of green card conditions 90 days BEFORE the second wedding anniversary and that means filing before December 8th 2014.

Advice, suggestions, tips??

Not sure as to a solution for this problem.

Thank you

Ally & Omar

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNeed Advice for I-130 - No News Since NOA1 in July 2013

Hi Ms. Curious !

Your not alone in the waiting game.  See the timeline for my husbands I -130 and I -129F.

I decided to do the K-3 visa after waiting almost five months with nothing from USCIS - A friend of mine told me it might speed things up and get my husband home sooner.  Which would be wonderful!

So perhaps you could consider doing a I -129F as well - its completely free to do if you already sent in your I -130 for your spouse.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFiled i-130 Been 2 months 21 days

Well I am sorry to tell you that your wait is not uncommon and should be expected to wait a while.  I have been waiting 5 months since I got my reciept.  Perhaps you might want to consider doing a K-3 visa for your spouse which has a 5 month waiting period instead of a year or more for the I -130.
