USCIS Service CentersVISA APPLICATION DENIED
Thanks to all who have responded, I did not mean to set off a fire storm. The first information I got was denied, which turned out to be a request for more information. Johanna feels it is not necessary for me to come to the appointment. I did call the Embassy and was told I could attend the interview. The copy I have now of the 221g only asks for additional proof of relationship, fotos email etc. On Monday Johanna is going to call for her next appt. I can not go down until March 5th. I would attend if required and earlier appointment. Johanna feels she only needs this additional information (Which she had at the first appt) perhaps the next CO will not be having a bad day.

I will update everyone on the appt date and outcome.

Thanks Again

Robert

USCIS Service CentersVISA APPLICATION DENIED
Johanna had her interview today for her K-1 Visa application at the Bogota Embassy.

Her application was denied because they asked her why she would want to marry someone who had been married three times before. Her response was because I love him.

Would you recomend an appeal.

Get Married in Bogota and file a K-3 ? , I assume they could not deny that application

   Johanna left Bogota this morning. Took about two hours to clear immigration missed her connection to Seattle, but confirmed about 1:30 late on the next flight to Seattle. I set up a tollfree number that rings the house and my cel phone at the same time. It worked great for Johanna to be able to call me and let me know she had missed the connection. A few more hours and you can add us to the couples together again list.

There is a Restaurant overlooking the city of Bogotá, Colombia. I think it starts with a T but I can not remember.

I know is was straight up a steep drive hard for the cab to climb the hill.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAnother question about paying the Visa Fee (Colombia)
Ds 160 is the form I was speaking of sorry for the confussion

Passport Number: xxxxxxxxxx
Passport Book Number: xxxxxxxxx

DS 160 is an online form that creates a bar code and cover letter

My application has the number of the passport number under passport number and the red punched number as the book number.

I am wondering if I should redo my online DS160 applications. It has both numbers I am hoping I am safe.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAnother question about paying the Visa Fee (Colombia)
Your explanation makes more sense to me now about the different numbers. I am mad because they asked my fiancee to redo her for ds156 as well and they changed the passport number.

My two concerns are I call the Colombia Embassy in Texas and was told the Colombian passport number is not the red number and the number thru the pages.

My form DS-230 will have the wrong passprt number now. The form DS-230 asks for second number like a serial number if there is one.

I wonder if I should redo my DS-230's to match the DS-156 now.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaNeed Advice on Apartments or Hotels in Bogota

Thanks for your feedback. I've decided to stay there and will be renting the whole apartment. This would have been my second option but I chose welovebogota.com because its within walking distance from the Embassy... http://www.bogotafla...artamentos.html

We are at Martha's place now. It is on the 6th of the complex. Has 24 hour security. Three Bedrooms are nice and two bathrooms. The master has a bath in it, the others bedrooms share a hallway bath. Kitchen is nice and has what you need to cook food and eat some meals there. Internet is great and free and wireless. Some road noise and a few car alarms at night, but I think that is everywhere in Bogota.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaNeed Advice on Apartments or Hotels in Bogota

Need your help yet again

We will be going to Bogota in June for our interview and we would like to know if someone could give us advice on accommodations.

We will be there for on 8 days and and would like to save by renting an apartment as opposed to staying in a hotel.

1) I've been looking at renting an apartment from "Martha" at www.welovebogota.com.. The apartments look nice and seem to be close to the US Embassy and we would like to know if anyone has used them before?

2)I've also looked at www.bogotacolombialodging.com but couldn't find out where the apartments are located. Has anyone used them?

Please share any other recommendations that you have. They will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks yet again.

I have booked with Martha for a week toward the end of May. It is two blocks from the embassy. Communication has been good via phone and email with Martha. Look in the Latin America region and you will see some folks that have stayed there.

Good luck to you, and We Will Leave the Light On.....Motel 6...... jajajaja

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAdvised of need to pay difference of new $350 K1 fee

I just got some disappointing news about the new visa fees. My fiancée received a call from a woman claiming to be from the US Embassy today stating that she will need to pay the difference of $219.00 before her interview.  She called me understandably upset about the situation and ask me to verify it because an embassy worker called her from a cell phone.

I then called the National Visa Center and the US Embassy in Bogota today and both people told me that the embassy will collect the difference of $219 USD to total $350 if your interview date is after 6/4/2010 :(.

On top of this, I was told that she will have to complete another DS-156 form with a bar code that is generated from the website like the instructions say in packet 4. We did this the FIRST time but the Banco Helm employees wouldn’t accept the computer generated form, made her come back the next day and complete one by hand..

I’m also curious if anyone else has received a call or investigated if they will also need to pay the difference if they paid the fee of $131 but have an interview date after 6/4/2010.

On the DS-156 form Banco Helm made my fiancee change her form and the embassy advised the Banoo Helm for was old revision but accepted it.

Also we had prepared a Letter of Intent, and Letter of Singlehood stating to the best of their(friends thet knew us)knowledge we were single

Have not seen this on the package 3/4 documents but in the list in the folder of requested items you prepare at the embassy on Visa Day

Had our interview in Bogota on 5/24/2010 and needed form DS-156. Two copies and yes printed on front and back. I had completed the online version and bank made my fiancee change it. We were approved, but the lady that checks the forms at window 32 said the DS-156 was not the current version from Banco Helm. The embassy did accept it.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow long did it take to get your visa? (Colombia)

Hi everyone!

Im just curious how long did it take for your to get your visa in hand after the approval? We were recently approved on June 9th and were told it would be 8 days to deliver it to Barranquilla. Just curious to see if anyone recieved it faster than the delivery time that was given.

Again I want to thank God all of you for your help in getting prepared for the interview!!!

Ours was delivered on 6/1, approved on 5/24 so 8 total days. The childrens were delivered about 3 days later

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVisa Fees - The $350 Question

Dallas Steve said he wanted a verifiable source - I used the new Packet 3 information.

My advice would be to hurry in and pay that $131 fee as quickly as possible - with regard to your Packet 3 arriving.

My email from the embassy said the fee is based on the appointment date. I received that email on 3/18/2010

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVisa Fees - The $350 Question

I have an interview at the Bogota embassy now for our K1 visa. The documentation says that we need to pay $350 for Visa Fees before the interview. Our K1 visa is for my fiancee and her 11-year old son. Do we need to pay $350 for each of them (2 X $350 = $700) or do we only pay $350 total, and can you provide a link on the internet supporting your answer?

Thanks mucho

I sent an email last week to the embassy in Bogota 3/18/2010
"And the final question is I understand there is a proposal to increase the Visa application fee from $131.00 to $350.00 at what point can the visa application fee be paid at the Banco Helm office? Is the visa application fee based on when paid or appointment date and the visa approval date?

Thanks for your time in the matter."

Response via email
"The visa application fee is based on the appointment date.

Sincerely

IV Unit"

On telephone line recording for the embassy in Bogotqa is states the $131.00 fee each. The packaet four states the new fee which is not yet it in place.

When the fee increases it would be $350 each visa

blush.gif I sent a personal check with my K1 application so I could get the case number from the back of the check.

It was not presented until some time today and is showing as a "POD Captured Item" image is not available.

I am hoping this is just a delay at my bank and not the CSC using a MICR scanner to deposit my funds without a paper trail.

I have never noticed this description for a item in my checking account before.

BTW my bank is a small local bank Whidbey Island Bank in Washington State. helpsmilie.gif

My fiancée took the DS-156 forms to the bank in Colombia to pay for her K1 visa appointment.

I wish my fiancée had called rather than changing the forms.
