I just thought of a question. This is a question for Christians.

I grew up in the Catholic Church, now I don't really adhere to a religion. I've studied religion and I don't really understand why Christians believe Jesus is the son of God. I know this is a staple of faith in Christianity and I don't mean to offend. Bible and I just don't find where it states that Jesus is the son of God.

Hi Leyla,

The Bible states several times that Yeshua is Son of G-d, but also Yeshua states it Himself. You just have to know the Torah and Tanakh to see His references.

The Bible states it here:

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of G-d." Romans 3:23

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of G-d." John3:5

"For G-d so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For G-d sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:16, 17

"If you shall confess with your mouth the L-rd Yeshua (Jesus), and shall believe in your heart that G-d has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved." Romans 10:9

"Whosoever shall confess that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Son of G-d, G-d dwells in Him and he in G-d." 1 John 4:15

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of G-d is eternal life through Yeshua (Jesus) Messiah our L-rd." Romans 6:23

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." 1 Timothy 3:16

"looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Messiah Yeshua," Titus 2:13

"Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Yeshua Messiah, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Yeshua Messiah:" 2 Peter 1:1

"And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds." Revelation 2:23

"who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself." Philippians 3:21

"And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high," Hebrews 1:3

"Yeshua Messiah is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8 (reference to Malachai 3:6: " For I am the L-rd, I change not."

"For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form," Colossians 2:9

"And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, 'You are certainly God’s Son!'" Matthew 14:33

^^ a couple of examples... then examples of what He said Himself:

"I and the Father are One." (John 10:30) (fairly self-explanatory)

"Truly truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM." (John 8:58)

"Now Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was." (John 17:5) (pre-existence to creation-- G-d)

"Where two or three have gathered in My name, I am in their midst." (Matt 18:20) (omnipresence)

"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom He wishes." (John 5:21)

"For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgement to the Son." (John 5:22)

"Son, your sins are forgiven." (Mark 2:5) (Only G-d can forgive sins)

"That you may know that the Son of Man has power on Earth to forgive sins." Matt 9:6

"Him that has Power to give out Healing Power and Power over Death to His followers." Matt 10:8

"The Son of Man is L-rd even of the Sabbath Day" Matt 12:8

"The Son of Man shall send forth HIS ANGELS and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend ... and shall cast them into a furnace, ... then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father" Matt 13:41-43

"Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven." Matt 16:16-17

"When the Son of Man shall come in His glory and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory and before Him shall be gathered all nations, and He shall separate them ...." Matt 25:31

"No man has ascended up to Heaven but He that came down from heaven even the Son of Man which is in heaven" John 3:13

"All men should honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father." John 5:23

"For I came down from heaven ..." John 6:38

"I am the Bread of Life ...." John 6:35 (a reference to the temple bread)

"You are from beneath, I am from above - I am not of this world." John 8:23

"What if you shall see the Son of Man ascend up where He was before?" John 6:62

"No man takes (My Life) from Me. I lay it down of Myself. I have Power to lay it down and I have the power to take it up again!" - John 10:18

"If you had known Me, You would have known My Father also: and from henceforth you Know Him and have seen Him." John 14:7

"I am the Alpha and the Omega (Alef and Tav), the Beginning and the End" Revelation 1:8

"Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me?" John 14:10,11

^^^ etc.... this is a pretty decent sampling of His claims, including prophetic claims.

I suppose a follow up question is: Assuming Jesus is the son of God, why do we need a mangod to die for our sins? and what does that mean?

Leyla, honestly I don't think the majority of Christians have any real clue why Yeshua had to die-- especially as evidenced by the pograms, etc against the "Jesus killers" wink.gif If they really knew, and understoodf, you wouldn't get this kind of reaction. it's not too complicated, but it involves stripping away of man-made traditions which directly contradict the Bible. You can get to the answer and He even says who He is, but in an effort to fulfill Daniel's prophecy of replacing the L-rd's appointed times and places with their own (unknowingly I guess), they succeeded...

From the beginning, it is apparent that the wages of sin are death-- the penalty is death. Sins can only be covered in blood. When Adam and Eve sin, their sins are covered in blood-- the goat skins. G-d covered them. This begins the long sacrifices. The sacrifices are imperfect though-- animal blood can only cover the sins for which it is sacrificed. An animal is an imperfect solution. In order to stop the cycle of imperfect solutions, there has to be a perfect sacrifice. the only perfect thing is G-d. G-d promised a Messiah, and He provides.

This is a basic G-d deal. Abraham is one notable G-d deal-- when Avram made a covenant with G-d (and thus took on a portion of His name as did Sarai-- the last "hay" (?) of G-d's name becoming Avraham and Sarah to show their bond), G-d caused Avram to sleep and not be involved in the deal-- because Avram would, basically, screw it up. It was a one-sided covenant. This is also a one-sided covenant. Our responsibility is faithfulness, He does everything else.

So, back to Messiah. In order to cover sins, G-d needs a perfect sacrifice. The only perfect thing in existence is G-d. So, only G-d can attone for the sins of creation. It must be a G-d deal. This process is foretold in all of the feasts-- the story of the Messiah. Yeshua will fulfill all 7, but currently has done 4. The last 3 will be done at second coming. Yeshua is the unblemished lamb of passover (pesach). On teh 14th of Nissan, He was sacrificed. The feast of unleavened bread follows. One must hide the unleavened bread... and leaven represents sin. Yeshua was burried, and was without sin. The feast of first fruits (Reishit Katzir) is His resurection. The feast of Shavu'ot (also called pentacost because it occures after counting the omer, 50 days) is when He ascended into heaven and the Ruach is given (the Ruach HaKodesh, the Holy Spirit, is also in the Tanakh, by name, in case anyone thinks it's a new thing).

you can PM me if you have any questions smile.gif

That was very informative.

I guess I have A LOT more questions.... but I am afraid it would turn into a discussion with the potential to get out of hand..
Here is one that might be safe. And a question Muslims asked me quite often: If Jesus is God, and God is the only perfect sacrifice, and Jesus was put on earth to be sacrificed for the sins of humans then ....... was God not in heaven during this period of time? (I know this is explained by the trinity but that confuses me too).

But, if Jesus is the SON and not God that would allow God as a whole to stay in heaven while this was going on. Also.... if Jesus is GOD and not a separate divine being, why does he pray to himself?

To me it makes sense that Jesus was not a divine being, but a beloved prophet of God. Generally, I believe the same that Muslims believe when it comes to Jesus. I believe he was a prophet of God with no claim to divinity. I believe that when Judas was taking the Romans over to take Jesus, God took Jesus and made Judas appear as if he was Jesus (Judas became the victim of his own betrayal). The Qur'an says that God made it appear to the people that they had killed Jesus. But really, God took Jesus up to heaven to await the time when he would come back to earth and fight the antichrist.

Soooo yeah.... maybe a PM would be better. Or even a phone call because this can get very confusing for me.

First, there is the Trinity....Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Example: the egg. You have the shell, the yoke and the egg white. Is it not an egg? We call an egg an egg, yet we know an egg has 3 parts to it. So does the Trinity. They are one, but have 3 parts.

The Word begins with " In the beginning". Then..."The SPIRIT of God was hovering over the waters." Then later God said. LET US MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE. Why didn't he say LET ME make man in MY own image??

Ok, I started this thread because I love talking about this topic. It was also suggested by a moderator that we do this instead of bumping into the Muslim thread.

I guess we should begin by setting a few rules/statements:

1. Please try to be mindful of others feelings. This is not a thread for bashing other religions. If you have your opinion, state it, but try not to go too far.
2. Also, guides6ly.gif. This thread has the potential to be very interesting and to promote interfaith dialogue. Do not violate the terms of use for the forums.
3. We all need to remember too that some people may state their opinions and it may not jive with our own beliefs. We need to understand that and accept that not all people believe the same way we do.

If I forgot any major rules, let me know...

With that said, bring on your questions! I'm sure there are a lot of them. This forum is filled with people of different faiths. I think we'll be surprised at how similar the faiths really are.

The way my husband explains Morocco is "Liberal" as far as Muslim countries go. So I would assume they would not practice that (at least not in the developed areas of Morocco).

Middle East and North AfricaCaturday!
By the way... I thought I would update for those interested smile.gif

So my husband and I moved from Columbus, OH to Delaware OH in April. Things were great for a while. We both had jobs and were able to pay bills. Everything was great until.....

I worked in a restaurant owned by a family. It wasn't properly run and the owners/managers frequented in gossip about and with the employees. Needless to say... I was fired/quit. She wouldn't say "Fired" but when I told her I didn't quit she said "Oh yes you did." I was never given a reason as to why any of this went down. However, because of the situation I was unable to collect unemployment because she didn't officially fire me. Thankfully I got a job very quickly at the local meijer working in the Deli.

Then, my husband got fired from his job. The reason? He asked if he could go home to change his shoe (because his toenail was falling off). The guy he was working with said: SURE! 15 minutes later my husband was back and the next day he fired my husband. So my husband and I decided to do something sort of drastic. His brother-in-law mentioned some great opportunities for making money in New Orleans (where he lives). We decided to send Tarik to New Orleans for this job offer. We planned that he would stay there for at least a year. When he got to New Orleans he found out that there really was no job. His brother-in-law had lied. We decided then that it would be better if he came home. So he did. But not before causing a stir with his brother-in-law and sister (who is visiting in Morocco). They refused to pay us back for the tickets (which we could barely afford to begin with) and now everyone is on no speaking terms. It got pretty dramatic.

When Tarik came back we found out from my mother that our downtown area is actively seeking businesses to fill in the downtown area. So since this news we've been working on a business plan that we hope to get a loan for in the near future. INSHAALLAH!!! So now, we're just working (Tarik got one of his old jobs back even though it's an hour away...) until we get our business plan approved and then we will open our business. smile.gif

So yeah...... Oh... did I mention that I cut off a fourth of the tip of my finger on the cheese slicer at work? lol Cause I did. So I haven't been working for a whole week sad.gif

Anyway.... I thought I'd just let you know generally what's been going on.

I'm in hurt finger limbo. Do I go to work? or do I stay home? Yesterday I was sent home for finger pain. As much as I don't want to stay home.... I want to stay home. I could get so much work done on my business (and the house). Grrrr for finger injuries sad.gif

Tarik and I have been married for one year!! I can't believe that this time last year I was getting ready to go to the masjid and get married smile.gif It's so weird.

I am so blessed to have a man like Tarik. He loves me unconditionally. Sometimes I think I don't deserve that but obviously someone upstairs is thinking of me and has given me this wonderful marriage. I can't even put my feelings into words! I feel like our love is poetry but I can't describe it the right way.

I guess I just wanted to express how much I love my husband and how thankful I am for a year of happy marriage. smile.gif

Middle East and North AfricaThinking about moving to Morocco for a few years
Wasssupp MENA ppl?

I thought I'd pose this question in the MENA Forum.

My husband and I just celebrated our one year anniversary. Although we are very much in love, we have not had a great year (mostly financially). I'm sure a lot of other people are in the same boat. One possible fix could be to move to Morocco for a few years. I could finish my education there and my husband would be able to resume his management position in the cafe his family owns. This would give us the opportunity to save money and live without the financial pressure we are experiencing here. Plus, it would give my husband a chance to be with his mother (she's very sick right now...).

There are so many pros and cons to staying or leaving. I don't know what to do.

Any suggestions?

Joined Weight Watchers Tuesday. I don't get it. It's supposedly this new program called momentum or something but it's 100% exactly the same as the old point system except I get less points per day than I used to. (been on and off WW since I was 17 yrs old). I won't be exercising for a while so we'll see how this goes. I have gained a TON of weight since I first met my husband. Probably a total of 25 pounds. sad.gif (and I wasn't exactly a skinny minnie before that...I think I was a normal size 14 back then).

Well in the commercials I see they say to concur hungry. But if I know fat people (and trust me.... I DO) we eat even if we're NOT hungry. THAT'S the problem.

I'm trying Dr. Phils Ultimate Weight Loss Solution. It's about mentally and physically changing your life. I pray to God I have the power to do it this time. I have at least 100lbs to lose (maybe more).

Ok, this may sound desperate... but it is because I am desperate. I have GOT to lose weight! It's turning into a health thing and not just a cosmetic thing. The thing I need is a person to keep me in check. Someone to text me, e-mail me, call me, motivate me etc. I need help big time. I've got to lose at least a 100 lbs and I can't do it alone.

Last night...after a certain marital right... my husband took a shower and I laid in bed not just crying... WEEPING. I've cried a lot before about my weight. Weeping is something I haven't done. I was shaking and I felt so bad. My husband loves me and he says he doesn't care how much I weigh. That is sweet and I love him for it but I feel terrible and hopeless. sad.gif

I am reading them all and think they are so funny. Anyway, I walked into our bedroom and I have hanging on the wall Jesus Christ on the cross so Farid decided to hang his caps and his sunglasses and eye glasses on Jesus's head and outstretched arms. And my mother saw this and asked him why he was hanging his stuff on Jesus, and he replied, "So Jesus can help me at my job where I wear these caps and with my eyesight as well".
WHEW, GOOD ANSWER FARID... kicking.gif
And after she left he asked me, "how do you know this is Jesus, have you ever seen him?" And I said, "Let's not go there Farid". And he turned away and left the room. laughing.gif

He also told me that not to let animals inside the house because then the angels would not be inside our house.
Aha, but do we know if angels ever existed inside our home anyway? no0pb.gif

And he says that he can't pray or go outside the house or anything if he has sex and does not bathe. blink.gif

And the good thing that I notice about him is that he does not stare at women on the street which I find odd. And I will teaze him and say, Isn't that lady pretty? And he will always respond, "I have my lady and she is very beautiful".

I am amazed at how great of a person he is, so unlike the creep I was with before. good.gif

That is so funny! smile.gif Tarik said the same thing about Dogs. But now that he's been hanging around my mom and dad (that have a dog) and he sees there is no destruction, evil or otherwise occuring there he has changed his mind and now has contests to see who the dog loves most!

Also, I've noticed the shower thing too... I think MENA men are suave and just plain irresistible, but they're sure not into post intimacies cuddling. I've noticed that it's usually straight to the shower. That's become our "Afterwards" lol. Too funny.

Another thing, Tarik won't look at "pretty girls" either. I was telling him how beautiful I think my boss is. I pointed her out to him one day and he said: "Her? She's only makeup hobi. When she wakes up in the morning it's like AHH! But when you wake up in the morning you're still beautiful." I swooned at this but my dad was quick to chime in: "Good one Tarik!" and high five him Lol.

Nope lol. He asked in an email what pludge means. I was POSITIVE we had solved the mystery with bludge but when I emailed him the meanning of it he replied 'no, that is not it'

We have a chat date every Thursday at noon, so I will probe a bit more. budge, maybe ?

pludge http://www.urbandict...hp?term=pludge#To apply a software update before it has been widely adopted, potentially exposing yourself to bugs or other undesirable effects. OS 10.5 looks sweet, I just hope it doesn't hose my machine. #### it, I'm going to pludge

Do you really think a MENA man would use urban slang even we don't know? lol

Tarik won't eat mac n cheese either! IT's so weird! I mean, I know it's not gourmet food but 'comon!

He also thinks Cottage Cheese it strange and won't eat it. He doesn't like oatmeal or cereal (unless it has crackers, yogurt and milk in it).
He always wants Kefta! Kefta and Potatos. Kefta and Bread. Kefta and Rice. I always make a veggie with it (to try to add some green to the meal) and here comes the mayo!

When I was in Morocco I got used to people giving me food with their hands. I did notice however, that the sanitation is less than stellar. Rinsing a cup means it's clean. wiping a spoon (if it was used) means it's clean. I thought that was gross and funny because everything else was spotless! The maid got stains out of my white clothes, making them look like new! My husband took/takes 3-5 showers a day, but they don't clean glasses...

Hmm....
