you don't need to be there, but if you can, do so as it won't hurt. i went to nessa's interview and while i don't think my presence made a significant impact on the case officer, it helped nessa more.

eta: you may wish to find out if you are allowed into the interview. in brazil i was. i don't know about Venezuela

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionGetting a I-134 Affidavit for Support Notarized
QUOTE (chad31525 @ Aug 21 2008, 12:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My father told me that he could file the I-134 for my fiance alone. I don't have anyone to notarize my I-134 in Iraq. So my father has volunteered to. Does anyone know if this would be a problem?

check with your s-1/pac, they should know who in your unit is a notary.

We have to fill the DS 230 form and send it back to the embasyy and can't reach the lawyer.

Look at the top of this page in the thin blue bar. The third one Example Forms will show you an example of the DS-230 filled out.

The forum Marriage Based Immigration (K1, K2, K3, etc) to the USA > The Foreign Embassy and Consulate General Discussion is the place to ask for help on Embassy forms.

correct and moved.

please admins, can you move this thread to the K1 area? I think I have posted it in the wrong place.

actually, the topic really belongs over in The Foreign Embassy and Consulate General Discussion as it's primarily focused on the packages from the embassy/consulate and the paperwork between the beneficiary and the embassy/consulate.

I make over poverty in most of the US why does Alaska have to be higher!!! Man I'm just really mad about that and if I don't get a co sponsor soon I think I might just LEAVE! (only i highly doubt that would happen) but MAN! IT'S SO UNFAIR!!!!

it's because the cost of living is higher in alaska.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview experience in rio
nessa and i had our interview on 2 oct, this past monday. we were interviewed by pamela (who i thought was mentioned to be a blonde but when nessa and i got there she had black hair! ) maybe she read the previous posts on rio consulate interviews and was trying to fool us

nessa and i arrived early, about 0715 and it did make a difference in that the first ones in could get the numbered ticket, meaning you'd be called sooner to turn in your documents. nessa and i were the 2nd ones in to do that, and the 4th ones called in for the interview. the ones who were first to get a numbered ticket and first to turn in their papers were called 2nd, so nessa and i took that to mean it does make a difference if you are there first.

nessa was asked only one question:
- if her parents would attend our wedding.

i was asked more questions than nessa::ranting:
- how did we meet
- how many times i'd been to brazil (i thought it was a trick question as it was my second trip)
- if i prefered the interview was in english or portuguese (i said english as i'm the vice president of the "my portuguese sucks" club)

we were finished in 8 minutes, and told to come back after 1500 on wednesday (that's 3 pm for you civilians :P )

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionThe dreaded question about I-134

I have been reading SO MANY posts about question 11 on I-134. What is the simple answer to this?

If your US fiance/e is going to support you when you are married until you are allowed to work, do they check intend?
In what situation would they need to put N/A?
I am sorry for this question as I know it has been talked about a lot. I just want some simple straight advice so nothing else can go wrong for me or anyone else.

I also have one more question. In question 8 they ask for names of people who are wholly or partially dependent on the sponser. Once again, if your US fiance/e is going to support you until you are allowed to work, then are you dependent on them?

You would think with ALL the paperwork they have you do, they would make things a bit clearer!

Thanks in advance, would really appreciate some straight forward answers.

the below link is the vj guide to the i-134:
http://www.visajourn...xp-04-30-07.pdf
question 11 is answered on this form as: N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )
for question 8 i put my daughter as i pay child support. the applicant should put anything similar as his or her situation warrants.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of support and Mortgage
along the same lines, i'm working on doing my i-134 and was planning on putting my house down, along with amount owed on the mortgage and i'm planning on using the taxed rate for the valuation.
for other items of interest:
-annual income under 7: i'm going to include my tax returns along with this as i receive retirement pay from the military, and it won't show up on the letter from my employer (and on the bank statement it will look odd)
- where the 134 asks for savings, does a checking account work also in that?
- regarding other personal property - is this where one can list their vehicles and such (i'm assuming they only want things that are titled)
- how important is it to list life insurance? i have some but i don't believe any have a surrender value.
- on #8 - i have a daughter from a previous marriage. i'm planning on putting partially dependant on me as she does not live with me and i pay child support. i don't think she is solely dependent on me for support as my ex wife is still alive.

also, anyone know of any time duration on the validity of the above 2 documents? like one month, 3 months, 6 months?

any advice is most appreciated on the above.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat now?? Two days until the interview and no documents ...
You did the correct thing. He can tell the CO that the original documents are on their way. That would be o.k and he will just have to come back to hand over the document. At least he will get the interview out of the way and you will know if he passed the interview.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLarge difference in age
You have to show that it is a legitimate relationship. Did you meet any of your relatives besides your parents? Do you have pictures taken together with the relatives. Of course the age difference is a red flag. You will have to address that at the interview.
