I am now a citizen. Its the end of visajourney for me. This forum was great tool to know how things are going with fellow April filers and find some comfort in times of anxiety. Thanks you all!

I filled out a voter registration form at the oath ceremony. Does this mean I do not need to register my new status with DMV anymore? SSN is the other thing we need to take care of, anything else?

Voter registration just goes to the county registrar. You still need to go to the DMV. Bring your original Naturalization Certificate to both places. They need to make the copies themselves. If you are working, then change your status with your employer as well.

Congrats, perfect and vylex! That's awesome! Hopefully those who are not "red" yet are just because they forgot to update us, and that their journeys are also done.

I never heard from T&T after I added them. Lisa & Phil disappeared off the radar. I don't know about the rest.

US Citizenship General DiscussionAny benefit to early biometrics?
It helped us quite a bit for ROC. We went in early, and were approved before our scheduled biometrics appointment. I think for N-400, the early biometrics we did was only a couple weeks early, so that may have not made much difference, although we were ahead in the processing times, and definitely ahead of the pack for the oath ceremony for those that didn't get the same day oath.
The PostmasterNot Telling02012-05-22 12:57:00

That is all dependent on how busy your local office is, not when your biometrics appointment was.

Well, if we were approved before our scheduled appointment date because we went in early, then that would seem to contradict what you just posted.

Are you telling me your ROC didn't get processed at CSC? That's what your timeline says... Maybe you should change it...

That is where it was sent. You will notice the timeline doesn't give an option for anything but a service center. But the return address for the approval letter was San Francisco.

ETA: If an interview was required, you don't think they would send us all the way down to Laguna Niguel, do you?

We were told by the officiating official at the oath ceremony, that if you are stopped and asked to provide proof you are a US citizen, to say, "I am a US citizen, I don't have to prove anything." Make sure you get his/her badge number, and sue the ####### out of him/her and the department he/she works for.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion about the oath letter
They won't let you take the oath without turning in your green card. As far as the rest, they are asking for anything that could be used to enter the US, or prove legal presence in the US that was issued to you by the Department of State or the Department of Homeland Security. Most people don't have anything like that, beside the green card, but if you do, they would like it back, so that it can't be used by anyone else.

US Citizenship General DiscussionUnpaid tickets!
If you are talking about your driving record, you need to contact the agency that gave you the parking tickets, and get proof (abstract of judgement) from them that the tickets were paid. You then take that to your state's department of motor vehicles, to have them removed from your record.

As far as the USCIS is concerned, there may be an issue if wants or warrants were issued for failure to appear. You would need similar proof if indeed it does become an issue. Normally, traffic tickets less than $500 where you were not arrested or involved drugs and alcohol do not need to be disclosed. However, I think an arrest warrant would be a big red flag.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhich Way to Go When you Qualify for Both?

Gosh it's been so long since I posted here. My hubby will have been in the US for 5 years at the end of May (landed May 27, 2007) status adjusted 9/29/07 (10 year green card). We've been married since June 2005.

We are looking over the naturalization forms and trying to figure out which is the best way to go. Does it matter?

And for our son (10 years old and non US citizen but 10 year green card too) do we have to file papers for him as well, or will he be able to become a citizen when my husband becomes a citizen?

Thanks for your time (and sorry if these questions are answered elsewhere and I just missed them).

It is always easier to apply as a five year permanent resident than as a three year spouse of a USC.

Your son will become a citizen when your husband does. Get a US Passport for both of them, as soon as your husband takes his oath and receives his Naturalization Certificate.

Don't sweat it, as long as you paid your fines on time. However, when interview time comes around, make sure you have proof they were paid off, just in case it becomes an issue (not likely, unless you bring it up yourself).

Even if you have committed a minor crime, USCIS may deny your application if you
do not tell the USCIS officer about the incident. Note that unless a traffic incident was
alcohol or drug related, you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and
incidents that did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine less than
$500 and/or points on your driver?s license.

http://www.uscis.gov...le/chapter3.pdf

However, if you did mention any such incident, you would be required to provide the following:

If you have ever been arrested or detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason, and no charges were filed, send:

An original official statement by the arresting agency or applicant court confirming that no charges were filed.

If you have ever been arrested or detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason, and charges were filed, send:

An original or court-certified copy of the complete arrest record and disposition for each incident (dismissal order, conviction
record or acquittal order).

If you have ever been convicted or placed in an alternative sentencing program or rehabilitative program (such as a drug
treatment or community service program), send:

An original or court-certified copy of the sentencing record for each incident; and
Evidence that you completed your sentence:

a. An original or certified copy of your probation or parole record; or
b. Evidence that you completed an alternative sentencing program or rehabilitative program.

If you have ever had any arrest or conviction vacated, set aside, sealed, expunged or otherwise removed from your record, send:

An original or court-certified copy of the court order vacating, setting aside, sealing, expunging or otherwise removing the arrest
or conviction, or an original statement from the court that no record exists of your arrest or conviction.

NOTE: If you have been arrested or convicted of a crime, you may send any countervailing evidence or evidence in your favor
concerning the circumstances of your arrest and/or conviction that you would like U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to
consider.

Does this still apply, if i was pulled over, and not cited? Just given a warning? Are the Pd even going to have record of that? I'm just curious. I am planning on filing next year.

Does what apply?

Law enforcement has a record of all field contacts. Will it show up during national agency check? Doubtful.

Don't sweat it. You got off with a warning, and leave it at that. As long as the officer didn't handcuff you, read you your rights, and put you in the back of his cruiser, you don't really need to mention it.

When you get the interview letter, it tells you what to bring. When it became time for the wife's interview, all he wanted to see was my wife's and my state ID's. He returned those after the interview. He did state that he had our current tax return, so he didn't need anything else, and for me to just have a seat, it would only be the wife being interviewed this time.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 filing and documents to bring to the interview

Hello Everyone
Just wanted to ask: When my wife goes to the interview and its based on marriage to a USC - Is she required to bring with her all the evidence that we have been living together for the entire 3 year period or only from the period that we mailed in the I-751 form - because when we did mail the I-751 form we provided everything for the first two years and now since we are filing I'm assuming all we need to provide is from the date we mailed the I-751 until we actually file the N-400 - in that case it would only be ONE year worth of documents. Does anyone know???

Don't assume anything. Whatever is listed on the interview letter, (and the yellow sheet, if you get one), you bring with you.

When my wife and I signed an affidavit of support during the immigration process. Then about two years later, she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and is unable to work. Is she able to get disability or some type of government funded insurance or access to a free clinic since we signed the affidavit of support? I am unable to add her to my insurance at work because it is too expensive. Is there any type of help? Thank you for your time and God Bless!

This is probably the best time to get insurance for someone. Currently, she cannot be denied insurance for a prior existing condition. Shop around and see what you can get. There are some low cost policies just for immigrants. After June, depending how the Supreme Court decides on Obamacare, all that may change.

1oz = 28.3 grams.

The magic number here seems to be 30 grams (= 1.05oz) so if it was one offense of less than 1 oz, thereby less than 30 grams, I think you should be fine as long as you disclose it.

Don't worry about traffic tickets. Normal traffic tickets should be disclosed, but will not make you ineligible.

The 30 grams or less is for a single, simple possession. If any of the records show anything more, e.g. intent to sell, etc., then all bets are off.
