My wife did, but at the embassy stage. They called her back in a few days later. Make sure your hands are clean, and don't use any lotion for a day or two before getting finger printed.

Lisa and Phil I too am in the same boat, have been in line for interview since May 9, still no interview or change in online status. Hopefully soon. I know my local office doesn't do same day oaths so I was hoping to get my interview by mid June so maybe there might be a special ceremony for Independence Day and I could be sworn in then lol. I am sure that is not going to happen now, but it was a nice though. Hopefully the Texas filers will soon see interviews. Good luck to everyone.

If it has been more than two weeks, call the 800 number on the email or on the website.

We got another email today that her interview has been scheduled, with date and time to be shown on letter to follow.

I had biometrics done on May 23rd and my status still shows the same (initial review).

You might see something at the end of the month. It looks like it's taking the FBI about that long to do a background check.

my status says that "your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling". I havent got any letter yet, does the status change when you receive the scheduling letter? or they just send the letter without changing status?

please advice

Ours changed when we got that email to blip number three -- Interview and Testing. I don't think it will change again until after the Interview.

The yellow letter is a list of things to make sure to bring to the interview. Weird thing to me is I sent it all in with my application to begin with so not sure why I have to take it as well, but that is ok. So be glad if you don't get one lol,but no big deal if you do.

We got something like that, Form N-659 "Naturalization Interview Checklist". All the "or" words from the N-400 instruction are pretty much replaced with "and" words, and they want original documents.

I was fingerprinted on 05/16 and I knew I would be rejected, as the lady was unable to get a clear print!! Next day I called the FBI and they informed that my fingerprints were indeed unreadable!!
I filed my N-400 on 04/19/2011 , still waiting for 2nd fingerprint letter! Any suggestions?

You could call the USCIS and see what they say. Maybe you can contact the ASC and see if they can redo the fingerprints again using your old appointment letter.

It sounds like the yellow letters are like you are on hold, but they want to let you know you are not forgotten. As far as passports, they want anything that might indicate whether or not you left the county, and for how long, so find all those old passports and bring them with you.

well, i had my interview this afternoon. I thought it was gonna be hard and stressed out for the last two weeks. Any way..... went there today. didnt have to wait was called in in less than 2 minutes after i walked into the building. the guy was extremely nice and smiles as he was talking< which helped me get comfortable,After swearing, first he asked me to read a question which was what country in the south of United States. and wrote the answer in a paper. than 5 other questions:1name one branch of the government 2- we vote the senators for how many years? 3 if the president and vice president can no longer rule who will rule the country? 4 how many justices are on the supreme court? 5 What did the Declaration of Independence do? I think that was it, that is all i can remember now, after that we went through a small review of the n400 form and that is it. he congratulated me and said that i will receive an oath ceremony letter in a week to 10 days and that most likely i will have my oath in the 20 th july.

I had my Citizenship's interview and testing this morning in Kansas City. I was scheduled for 9:30am, was there around 9:10 (yeah, were kind of late), went through their security and then as soon as I got in the waiting area, I place my interview appointment letter in a box (there were 3 other letters). I haven't been seated for 5 minutes and they already called my name. The IO is a woman, she was very nice. She had me sworn in as soon as we got in the room. She asked for my DL and GC, counter-checked it with my N-400. Then she went ahead with the civics, reading and writing tests right away. She said she'll ask me 10 questions but will stop at 6 if I got them all correct. I swear it was only 4 questions, or maybe I was too nervous to remember getting 6, LOL. Then we went ahead and review my N-400. She asked if my husband was with me, I said yes and she said "I thought I saw him out there." then smiled. She made me sign on the last page of my forms, then chatted a little bit. After that, she said I passed and should receive my oath taking appointment, which usually could take up to 2 months. She then handed me a piece of paper that said I passed the tests and "Congratulations..." and that my application will be recommended for approval. The immigration officer was very nice. I was in and out of the process in 10 minutes! That quick! What a relief!

The Civics test was:
1. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
2. What is the president's political party?
3. What are the 2 major polical parties in the US?
4. Name 3 original colonies
That's it... She probably asked me 6 questions but I swear, these are the only questions I can remember.

Reading test: There were 3 sentences, she asked me to read one of them.
"Where does the Congress meet?"

Writing test: She read a sentence and asked me to write it down on the paper she provided.
The Congress meet in Washington.

My interview is on July, and they requested me to bring prove whether i register for selective services or not. if i did not register i need to request letter from selective service stating that i am exempt. in My case i enter the US and become LPR after 26 years so i already sent selective service document that prove i become LPR after age 26. Also they requested letter 1277 OR last three years taxes.

Letter 1277 is just your tax transcripts, I do believe. There actually is no such form from the IRS, I have been led to believe.

I just finished my interview here in San Jose. Arrived 15 min ahead of my appointment time; passed through security and dropped of the letter in the window. I was called in about 1/2 hr later (there was quite some crowd in the waiting area).

IO first had me take the "truth oath" then went through my N400 form and asked me a few questions like how many times have you been out of US since I got my GC, were there any trips longer than 6 mos, crime questions (have you ever been ... blah blah blah ).

Then she checked the passport to verify the dates of into/out from US that I had put in the N400.

Then asked me to read "Who is Abraham Lincoln" and write "Lincoln lead the nation during the civil war".

Asked me 6 q's:
1. What is the supreme law of the land
2. Longest rivers in US
3. Who inhabited US before the colonists arrived
4 Speaker of the house
5. what do we call the first 10 ammendments
6 President's term?

Thats it. She said I was approved and gave the approval letter. All done in less than 15 min.

How long does it take to receive the oath letter after the interview. Its been more than two weeks since my interview was done, but there hasn't been any update on my case status. In San Jose they have an oath ceremony once a month and for July it is on the 28th. If its not that date I will have to wait until Aug 24.

We got ours the day of the interview, July 7th, in San Francisco. I would call the office and find out what's up.

You are not the only one riding on that boat. Good luck. You can try calling them, but as long as they are within their target date for the form, they probably won't do anything.

If you haven't moved, your field office will probably be the same place that adjudicated your other filings, like AOS and ROC. Or, use this link:

well...sitting here with tears streaming down my face....

I got a really nice guy for my citizenship interview and was approved My son and I both got 6/6 civics and history questions correct. Great so far you think.....

My son (aged 22) got a nasty woman IO who made it really difficult for him and gave him the "will have to send you a letter later telling you whether you're approved or denied" letter. - but she basically told him he would be denied. (Although she was absolutely wrong in what she said).

We had really organized applications with everything attached as evidence (although she tried to tell him he didn't have his selective service registration - which I know was in there - so my son gave her another copy). She told my son that he would be denied because he requested to take a modified oath of allegience (happy to do civilian service but not any service in relation to the armed forces by way of religious beliefs and training) - the USCIS itself addresses this in its handbook and states that a modified oath can be taken to Q36 and 37 - no to any kind of military service. He said he was happy to do civilian service (she wouldn't allow him to give any kind of explanation as to his beliefs etc) but she told him very nastily that he HAD to say yes to at least non-combatant service in the military or it would "be a problem". Having read the USCIS handbook on this point I know she is absolutely wrong.

The USCIS handbook states:
(1) Types of Modified Oaths .

An applicant who can demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that, on the basis of religious training and belief, he/she is opposed to bearing arms or performing noncombatant services in the Armed Forces of the United States can take an oath that omits these requirements. Depending on the specific modified oath (unable to bear arms and/or perform non-combatant service in the armed forces), the relevant clauses would be deleted and the oath would be taken in modified form. See INA 337 and 8 CFR 337.1(b ). For a more complete discussion on how to determine if an applicant can take a modified oath please link to Chapter? of this handbook. Also see Chapter 74.2 regarding part 8 of the Examination Process.
I am beyond sick and so upset for him. His is absolutely devastated. It makes it worse that she apparently went and consulted a colleague before coming back and saying this to him - but I know she is wrong.

Any ideas on where to go from here if he is denied on the basis of something the USCIS actually makes an allowance for?

Sounds you are going to have to wait for a determination letter, then see what steps may be necessary. The letter will most likely indicate the next step. Hopefully, that will not be necessary. Good luck.

Maybe they just want a full room. How big is your field office? San Francisco is like a major factory, with just the hundred or so folks I saw waiting for Info-Pass appointments.

I have no idea how they do the scheduling, nor how big our field city. All I know is we only do an oath at the district court one date a month. The place wasn't so busy when I had my interview.

Same with San Francisco: Once a month, but they use a huge venue, up to 1300 new citizens get sworn in every month.

Oath Ceremony

On August 16, 2011, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. I filled out a voter registration form at the oath ceremony. Does this mean I do not need to register my new status with DMV anymore? SSN is the other thing we need to take care of, anything else?

Voter registration just goes to the county registrar. You still need to go to the DMV. Bring your original Naturalization Certificate to both places. They need to make the copies themselves. If you are working, then change your status with your employer as well.
