Hi, Does anyone know of a good website to learn about the U.S. History interview questions?

this topic seems to be related to obtaining us citizenship, so moved from K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures to US Citizenship General Discussion

should my interpretation of this topic be incorrect, please pm me and provide additional information so i can move it to a more applicable forum.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 FILERS - MARCH 2012

Pakboy12.............|03/26/12.|04/02/12.|03/28/12.|05/18/12.|05/24/12.|06/28/12.|PASSED...|06/28/12.|Dallas, TX..........|

Wanted to add my experience to the list here.

First off I am officially a US Citizen, just got back from the Oath!

Below is my account of the entire process for whoever it may help.

This is my second time filing for N-400. I was denied without prejudice 6 years ago when I was much younger. I am not married to a US citizen and filed as such, this time without the help of a lawyer.

After I filed, with electronic notification in late March, I got regular updates. Bio appointment went smoothly. And got my letter for the interview at the end of May. I went in for the interview today at 10:15am. Got to my interview at the Irving, TX Field Office in the DFW Area 15 minutes early, and after a short wait got called into by an IO at around 10:25. Initially the IO asked me some questions about an arrest I had on my record without putting me under oath. He made some marks and highlights on my file slammed it close and stepped out of the room. At this point I was thinking oh man here we go again.

The IO came back in a few minutes and stood me up to put me under oath from then on the interview consisted of the normal questioning. Next was the testing, simple stuff The questions I got were as follows;

When was the declaration of independence signed?
Name one of the Longest Rivers in the US?
How many years does the president serve in office?
Who is the speaker of the house?
Who lived here before the europeans arrived?
What do we call the first ten ammendments?

After passing the test, the IO said he needed to hurry to get my paperwork in. I did not completely understand so I started signing a bunch of stuff. He then handed me my N-445 with Congratulations check marked and said I could attend to be back at the Irving, TX office at 1PM.

I was extremely relieved and got to enjoy the same day oath. Thank you all for your contributions, although I have not posted before I have been a lurker for quite some time now. Goodluck to everyone!

Congrats new citizen :) :star:

US Citizenship General DiscussionForgot the dates of employments and school
You may have to guestimate. At least you can remember the schools you attended and you can attempt to guess the dates :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhen do I file for citizenship?

It's based on your "resident since" date on your GC. You can file 90 days before the 3 year anniversary of you being an LPR. You need to have been married 3 years before they'll approve it (which for most people, unless they got a really speedy approval) is totally fine.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHow long is the processing taking
When you send in the application, it usually takes a few months to get the interview.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHow long is the processing taking

Just to clarify, you are talking about the N400 process of becoming a US Citizen, correct?

Yes - Anywhere from 3 months but usually 6 to 9 months.

Sometimes they notify via email or text and for other they don't even if they signed up for it. Don't worry too much about that

If you can't get the originals in time for the interview, bring the copies and be prepared to tell them at the interview that you are in the process of getting the originals. And apply for the originals ASAP.

US Citizenship General DiscussionJury Duty?

I recently got a notice for Jury Duty but I'm not yet a Citizen! My interview is in a few weeks, September 14th and the Jury Duty date is sometime in October. You can postpone it for up to a year but does anyone know if that would be allowed if I am technically not a citizen yet but will be soon enough? Or should I just ask for a disqualification based on the fact that I am not a citizen? Maybe they were just jumping the gun... :D

You can answer back and disqualify yourself since you are not a citizen. Here in New Jersey you can actually answer the jury duty form online where you can describe why you are not qualified.

US Citizenship General DiscussionTax document question

You can go to the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/i...=232168,00.html and order transcripts. They're free and they arrive in 5-10 days.

I'm applying based on 5 years so I may or may not need them, but I ordered them anyway (in case I get a yellow letter requesting them).

OR you can go to your local IRS office and they can give them to you there. Those should meet the requirements for the N-400.

Grashoppr

 And folks commonly send their tax return transcripts.

Yikees - way for them to get your hopes up and then to dash it to pieces. You will just have to wait until you get the mail to see exactly what it is. And then respond ASAP.
