My wife has no children and she still went and got the cert form the police station. The few Bhat it costs to get it is better then going to the interview and having someone put you in AP because you didn't have it.

ThailandGetting Medical Prior to Packet 3 Request

You can get the medical prior to receiving the official packet, you just have to push.  We had the same issue with the ladies there in Bangkok in that they said they would not do it until we had packet 3.  My wife showed up with the NOA2 and pushed and got it taken care of.  It was a good thing she did as we never received an official packet 3.

Same here...My wife did the same and had no issues. Just showed the NOA2

Ya'll are fine.  My wife was the same with our son.  As long as you have Single Status certificate you good.  Since she does have a child you will need a statement from the father whether he comes to the embassy or go to the local Amphur giving you consent for the child to come to the US.  This is a most.  Here is a hyperlink:

glenn....on my way to work so short note.....you are early in the process(,NOA-1) many things to be done to prepare for BKK end of process. Check our timeline, is considered one of the fastest ones, we did not do medical until early Dec.,did police clearance at same time.Has your fiancée been married before? Have children? so much goes into this process, medical is just one of many steps.

ThailandIs my future Thai Bride a Bar Girl?

Yes Ning, I believe you. I made the rounds my first 6 or 8 trips and I must have been exceeding lucky to meet nice people (ladies of course). Every one and there more than a few. I was not greedy and never pressured anyone so maybe that helped too. I still know a couple of them, they are out of the game now. Heck, it's much more bad here in the States to be involved in that sort of thing. As for the stigma back in the village, yes I know your right. I don't know too much about it, just one story I heard about a girl who blew through quite a bit of farang money. I do believe however that I am very lucky, my wife, my life is a dream now.

ThailandIs my future Thai Bride a Bar Girl?

If she prays a lot and goes to the temple a lot (like 3 or 4 times a week) that's a good sign I think. Age is a big factor too. You are young so of course you are going like someone under 30 which is there are more dangerous ladies. Take is slow. There are bg's that are fine people, just not so many of them. A lot of free lancers too that really do send the money home. I  know this. It all just takes time. Even if you meet someone who is pure as the driven snow, there will still be ups and downs over time.

Not sure on this question but I can tell you, my (now) wife got put on AP from the interview because she did not have her 20 year old daughter's birth certificate. Cost us about 3 months even though we mailed to the Embassy the day after the interview. The daughter was never planned to come over but they had put her on one of the docs anyway and we did not pay attention to it. I called the 800 and they said don't worry... So be prepared with everything you can get for them. Best of luck.

If you are up to date on all the above vaccinations. With the medical records to back it up. Who cares when thy were administered. The list of hospitals  accredited to perform the medical evaluation certainly can understand a vaccination history. It is a great added cost for the hospitals to charge you an exorbitant fee. Many people travel for reasons aside from visa required inoculations . It should not be difficult to locate a clinic in Bangkok that is  recognized and specializes in travel vaccinations.

ThailandPacket 3

I had a rather simple question regarding packet # 3

Here is a quote from your consular website "Many U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents reside outside the United States on a temporary basis. "Temporary" may cover an extended period of residence abroad. The sponsor living abroad must establish the following in order to be considered domiciled in the United States:

He/she left the United States for a limited and not indefinite period of time,
He/she intended to maintain a domicile in the United States, and
He/she has evidence of continued ties to the United States."

Here is more from your Bible

" When a sponsor has clearly not maintained a domicile in the United States, he/she must re-establish a U.S. domicile to be a sponsor. The aspiring sponsor may take steps, including the examples given below, to show that the United States is his/her principal place of residence

Find employment in the United States
Secure a residence in the United States
Register children in U.S. schools
Relinquish residence abroad
Other evidence of a U.S. residence
If the sponsor establishes U.S. domicile, it is not necessary for the sponsor to go to the United States before the sponsored family members. However, the sponsor must return to the United States to live before the sponsored immigrant may enter the United States. The sponsored immigrant must enter the United States with or after the sponsor."

I have ties. Numerous, such as USA income, credit cards, credit union and bank accounts and have started enrolling my kids in school. I don't think you understand the gist of my question. Living outside the USA does not automatically break ties. This is about domicile. I have an address

Thanks for the kind thoughts though.

I did not see anywhere that stipulated including documentation for re-establishing a US domicile. However I don't see how it could be problematic.

Since we filed via DCF things get a bit convoluted.

Have any members been there and done that??

The paperwork for packet 3 gets mailed tomorrow AM.

Thailandadministrative Processing in Thailand

So my fiance have been under administrative processing since January of this year. I contacted the immigration office two weeks ago and i got the standard response that they will let me know if they need anything from.

I want to know if it is okay  to contact them again today or is this just going to irritate them?

what will you consider to be excess when contacting them

Thanks!

Seriously? Establishing US domicile is clearly stated on the Consular website under the instructions for consular processing. You need to provide evidence of an address and having financial ties in the US.

ThailandKorean Air

So I logged in and my family plan was approved.  They said they would send me an email when approved, but they didn't.  I logged into both my wife's account and my account and enabled pooling for both accounts.  I then tried to book a ticket that I did not have enough miles on my own to book.  It allowed me to book the ticket using miles.  (I went all the way to the confirmation page and didn't click confirm)  So looks like it works.

Pretty damn awesome!

Something else to add.  Pretty much as soon as we got back, my wife had to turn around and fly back to Thailand for a funeral.  I was able to get a ticket for $1900 with 24 hours advance notice.

ThailandKorean Air

I wanted to post a couple things concerning Korean Air's frequent flier program that I thought were pretty good.

1.  The miles don't expire for 10 years, unlike U.S. based airline miles that expire after 18 months without any use.  One caveat is the Korean miles expire at the end of 10 years period whether you fly with them during that period or not.  So I guess that's good and bad.

2.  I was messing around on the Korean Air website and found this thing called "Family Plan"  I dug into this further and you can pool your miles together.  For example, I have roughly 40k miles and my wife has roughly 40k miles.  A round trip ticket to Thailand from the U.S. is 80k miles.  After you register for this family plan thing, you can combine the miles and redeem them for one ticket.  No U.S. airline that I'm aware of will let you combine miles from different accounts.  It appears they let kids grandparents etc. all pool their miles together as well.  I did have to upload proof of marriage.  I pinged them on chat, and they said they will let me know via email when approved.

ThailandThai TV in the states

Well, with Aseaniptv/Malimar, the Lakorn and Thai Channels (3/5/7, etc) are no problem.  It's really more about movies that we both can enjoy together.  I honestly can't be bothered with the Thai voice overlays with English subs.  I have no issues sourcing movies with Thai audio, but the pickings for Thai audio/English subs and vice versa seem to be rather thin.

I really went out of my way to try and get movies that had Thai subtitles, looking into Thai FTA satellite, etc. etc.  At the end of the day, she really didn't care about any of it.  Someone turned her on to the youtube Thai soap opera thing, and that what she watches almost all of the time now.  It keeps her busy so I can focus on my animal porn without being bothered.

ThailandThai TV in the states

Is there is any other way to get Thai TV or English with Thai subs/vice-versa in the states (e.g. HBO Asia)?  Is there anything available over FTA (free-to-air)?  I have directv at the moment and a Roku with Malimar TV, but I'd really like a better option than going to the local store or streaming movies?

There's not really a large selection on Amazon instant video or Netflix and I doubt redbox has anything.

I went down that road when my wife first got here.  She really didn't care about it like I thought she would.  She mostly watches Thai movies and Soaps on Youtube now.

ThailandMilitary Coup Announced - May 22, 2014

With John Kerry saying he is "disappointed" and that the U.S. is going to take a look at the $10 million the U.S. gives Thailand, Thailand should say piss off. I agree with Karee that the U.S. should stay out of this, our Western model of democracy is not a one size fits all. And, as Kerry probably doesn't know, now is not a good time to be alienating any ASEAN countries.

$10 million?  That's Chalerm's annual bar tab.

ThailandMilitary Coup Announced - May 22, 2014

Generally (no pun intended) this is a good thing for Thailand.  Prayuth brought the parties together and put them in a room and told them to work it out.  They were either unwilling or unable, so this is the end result.  People are tired of the alternating hostage taking of the capitol.  The police are unwilling or unable to do their job, so that leaves the military.

Quite frankly the U.S. govt. should stay the f*uck out of it.  Elections are not the be all end all to all political problems.  Interestingly, they don't seem to be about elections when the Muslim brotherhood wins in Egypt, or when Saddam or the little dictator in N. Korea get 100% of the vote.  Thaksin (oops I mean Yingluck) was in the process of bankrupting the country with the rice scam and other corrupt populist policies and needed to be stopped.  Unfortunately, that didn't happen via an election.  The Thai situation can not be looked at through the lens of U.S. politics.  It's apples and oranges.

ThailandPolice Background Check

I see there is a requirement for a police report that my wife needs to obtain for the CR-1 we are doing.  Can someone help with a few questions.  Is this a standard report that every major police station would know?  Is the only requirement to obtain and translate this form into English or am I missing any details?

Thanks in advance

As Jeff said, it can only be done in Bangkok.  Here's the information:

It says there's a fee of 100 THB, but you can pay an extra "fee" to get it expedited from what I've heard.

ThailandTo change names or not?

I go back and forth on this. As soon as we got married in Thailand, my wife took off that weekend to go back home and changed everything to her married name.  ID card, passport, house book, everything.  At the time I thought it was amusing.  Now every few years there's some Thai govt. official coming out and saying they're considering restricting Thai nationals who are married to foreigners from buying land, and worse,  even owning it.  Nothing ever seems to come of it.  Not only that when she has to deal with anyone there and whips out that ID card with a foreign last name, they assume she's some kind of multi-millionaire because she's married to a farang.

I was there in April and she went and applied to get a bunch of farmland in her name.  It was huge fiasco, not because of her last name though, because it's Thailand and when dealing with things like that it's always a huge fiasco.  They just asked her about me, and then moved on.  It didn't seem to be an issue.  However, who knows about the next government that comes into power and wants to whip up nationalist fervor by restricting the evil farang from stealing all their land.

If I had to do it all over again, I would've had her keep her maiden name on everything Thai, and just change her name on the U.S. stuff if that's possible.  It appears that it is.

ThailandGetting a housewife credit

When I bought my wife her first car to add her to the title would have given us a terrible interest rate. She was invited at the store to apply for a Kohl's card but rejected due to lack of credit history. About a year ago I added her as an authorized user to my Amex account and she got her own card. Lately she's been getting a lot of applications to apply for credit cards. We just sent one in so we'll see what happens. We opened up joint checking/savings account the first week she was here, got her on my health insurance straight away, beneficiary of 401K, all utility/phone/water/cable bills in both names, beneficiary of life insurance. We're about 3.5 months away from ROC so this has been on my mind a lot too.

This happened with my wife and a Target credit card.  She was denied so I applied with BoA (our bank) to get her a secured card with $500 limit ($99 security deposit).  After about 4 months using that card and paying it off, Capitol One gave her an unsecured card with a $1000 limit out of the blue.  I then went back to BoA and said we want the card unsecured and the $99 back.  They said she has to pay on it for 6 months.  I said just cancel it then.  She put me on hold and came back and said they're making it unsecured, refunding the $99 and raising the credit limit to $1000.  This started about a year ago.  She now has multiple unsecured credit cards, and her credit score is actually better than mine (mid 700s)

ETA:  Did you ever get that green card mess straightened out?

^I say conflicted because I can't find corroborating evidence. And if you dig deeper, it appears that several people in Pattaya are dedicating entire websites to attacking each other, trying to pass themselves off as legitimate press. It's weird and I don't understand it at all.

ThailandUSA Immigration Law Thailand

I am thinking about using USA Immigration Thailand (also known as mythalfiance.com). Has anybody else had experience with this company?

If your case is straight forward (no waivers etc.) then you shouldn't need a lawyer.

A lawyer can't do anything to speed up your case.  In fact by the very nature of courier delays (US postal service, fedex etc.) it will actually slow things down.  Instead of filing the petition yourself, you have to send all the information to the lawyer, and then they file it.  Also, It's entirely up to them when they decide to file it.  There may be more pressing issues than your case.  They may end up using your petition as a coaster for their beer,  Who knows?  The point is, once you pay the lawyer and sign the G-28, it's out of your hands.

I made the mistake of hiring a lawyer for my case, and if it wasn't for this website, my wife would probably still be sitting in Thailand.  He claimed to have done over 10,000 marriage/fiance visas yet had no clue about the IR-1/CR-1 process.  I had to walk him through every step with information I got here.  If you feel the need to throw away money, I suggest sending the guy that runs this website a check, because this place is far more valuable than any lawyer.
