Nawal, God has given you such a wonderful gift....how you maintain your sanity with everything that is going on in your life is truly amazing!

Maureen, I'd gladly trade places with you. The more ya sleep, the less ya have to think about.

Nagi, when does your hubby come back home?

Well, that's a good question. He wants to be back in 3 weeks, but another reason why he left is to get medical Tx. So this would depend on what his doctor says. Maybe he will have to have an operation, we dont know yet. He knows if USCIS calls him for a second interview that he better get his butt back here, and he will should that happen. He is also aware that he will have to be back in a few months if he can't make it back in the 3 weeks. So basically right now it's up in the air. This waiting is bringing back the nightmares and I pray all the time for strength to get through this.

I chatted with my husband this afternoon. He said he will see his doctor next week. He is really jet lagged to death. The trip was long and he hasn't had much sleep at all.

Middle East and North AfricaPets?
My husband knew that he would be sharing this tiny house with a zoo here. He never really got used to the screeching cockatoo, he's ok with the African Grey and the cats, but the dogs were not allowed to have the run of the house and had to be confined to the kitchen area. We were sad for this, but now that he is back in Egypt, they have run of the house again...for now anyway.

Well, what do YOU want? Sounds like you would rather wait? Don't just start a family because of culture pressures or because your husband wants children right away. Also, see a doctor. Treatment is available.

Sounds more about a control thing if the brother in laws do it, too. You just can't keep human beings locked up like that for long periods of time. My SILs go out, work, etc. on their own all the time and they live in a very rural city with very traditional values. When I was there (for a short time) I even went out with my SILs without him. No one bothered us. It really concerns me that your husband behaves this way. I think you should be concerned also. Using phrases like "we're not allowed to go outside" sounds like you're a child not a grown woman. Having to get his "permission" sounds like you're his property or child not his wife. It's quite alarming, that doesn't alarm you?

He may understand that life in the US is different and women are more independant but don't be surprised if you have to account for every second you're out of the house. Don't be surprised if he blows up your phone even if you're at work. I really hope you're prepared for that. I mean you probably are since you're practically being held hostage right now. My husband is somewhat jealous as most MENA men are and when he first got here he did try to keep tabs on me but I broke him of that over time. It's a trust/control thing and honestly, your situation sounds really extreme.

I have to agree with Astarte on this one. It is rather sad that he is being disrespectful of your rights as a human being.

Also, he might be promising to live the American way now but things could change when he arrives. It's more likely that the shock of how much more liberal the states are and how much more independent the women are might make him even more jealous and controlling. I could never live like that. I view it as a type of abuse.

good.gif good.gif I second that.

You hit the nail on the head when you said it's like starting your life over again. That's exactly how I felt after my husband got here. Once I got back to reality after dreaming and going through the visa process I realized I was starting all over again. Cripes! I'm too old to start all over again.

Man I'm sorry for sounding so negative about the situation. It just feels better to let it out a little. biggrin.gif

He's 30...was 28 when he got here. In terms of age he should've had his act together but living at home having his sisters wait on him didn't help. No one telling him "no" didn't help either. IMO ppl should have to live on their own, completely, for at least a solid year before they get married.

I second that
It is very difficult to be practically starting your entire life over again, having been deprived of
the normal life that men his age should be living. Inexperience, being catered to and not having any purpose
or responsibilities can set a man back many years.

i prob have the largest age difference of allllllllll, ahmed was the oldest and luckly he did have some responsibility attached to his store, but no responsibility attatched to real life other than taking care of himself, (wake up get out of bed, eat what was given, go to work, back etc) and i doubt he has ever been told no. At this point repeating everything i say is getting old (and this is with good english) and as of now walking on tip toes as not to say something he (will take wrong) ends, sorry your not in kansas anymore...but we are fine ha but with age patience goes completely down the drain also (your beauty operator is your best friend)

Maybeline and night renewal booster are my best friends.

Middle East and North AfricaAdministraive process
It is rather normal for men ( and some women, too ) to have AP going through Middle East / high fraud countries. Try to live your life as normally as you can until the visa is issued. If you keep calling DOS and e mailing the embassy a few times a week you will drive yourself nuts. Instead, call every other week and e mail the embassy twice a month. 0f course, it is your right to inquire several times a day if it makes ya happy, but it isnt necessary. You can get several different operators with several different answers several times a day.
There is no time frame when AP will be completed. Weeks, months, God forbid a year or over.
