Canada	The Vent - Part Trois	i have a vent............. we live at the end of a dead end road. we have 3 vehicles: a 96 camaro (rear wheel drive), a 02 pickup (4 wheel drive), a 08 vibe (front wheel drive). since getting the vibe for nessa (yeah i know, a whole thread about that in off topic) i've parked the camaro in front of the house as the driveway slopes downhill to the garage and the camaro is like a pig on ice when it snows, and oftentimes it's a paperweight if the snow is over 1" deep or there is ice. and once it snows, it does not come out of the driveway until the driveway has melted and it's just in the way. soooooo....where i've parked the camaro is apparently the favorite place for the road crew to push the snow. with the camaro there, they can't push snow to that spot. yesterday, the road crew supervisor was out and asked nessa to move the car. i knew what they wanted to do, move the car so we can push snow there - haha, have a nice day. so i told nessa to tell them i have the keys and she can't move it. the supervisor left a phone number, i called that today to see what the deal is. the guy tried telling me that oh it's because the post office says it blocks the mailboxes. uh no, i replied, i've checked with the post office and they told me it had to be clear 10' on each side of the mailbox, the camaro is more than 10' and if there was a problem, my postman would be real happy to tell me about it. i know they wouldn't call you to pass that on. so the guy switches directions, all my neighbors have agreed to let them push snow onto their property. yeah, i said, that's nice because every one of them has more garage space than they do vehicles, i've got 3 with a 2 car garage, that's why the camaro is parked out front. and before you suggest i park it on the place where we back up from the garage before pulling forward to go up the driveway, that's where the snow is pushed by the tractor to clear the driveway and parking pad. the supervisor decides to play hardball: oh well we'll just have to get the sheriff involved! oh really, call them i say. the street is not an emergency snow route, there is no law i'm breaking, no county ordinance i'm in violation of, i'd be happy to talk to the sheriff about this. he backs off of that one real quick. now i'm just a bit......peeved! we go back and forth some more, he mentions having the property surveyed, i guess to see if my car is on country property (which it is, but it's righthand wheels are on my property - not like it's a big deal, i can move it a foot or two more onto my property, but again not an issue as there's nothing forbidding me from parking on country property). so i tell him go ahead! get it surveyed! he backs off of that. we end the phone call with this - i don't have anywhere else to park it. there is no law i'm violating by parking there. and he can call whoever he wants.......... I now have one and I am going to get rid of it. The only benefit I see is that the dirt is - surprisingly - no longer captured in a bag. So when it comes time to clean it - it's awful and messy. So now I am shopping for another vacuum. cost of the bags can add up. i like them as i can take them out back and empty it. i can see how that might be a problem for people with neighbors real close by.	charles! Canada	The Vent - Part Trois	well. just got a call form the mechanic.. he says it is the heater hoses, they keep backing up or something and now the head gaskets are burnt again.. they said it isn't covered under warranty though because it wasn't something they did.. they didn't replace the heater hoses last time... but they said they would go halfers with us and "only" charge us 900 bucks ... I have told them a few times over the last year that I think the car was acting funny.. like the fan would run all the time and the heat temp gauge would sometimes go to half but every time they checked it out and said nothing was wrong.. I wonder if the heater hoses was the problem... i call bs on that. heater hoses don't back up. either the water is flowing or it's not, and if it's not it's a clogged heater core or radiator. water pumps don't usually freeze up, the signs it's time to replace one is due to it leaking. the heater does not keep the engine cool as that's the radiator's job. all the heater core does is transfer heat from the radiator water to the interior of the car and when it's not running, the water from the radiator does not circulate thru it. this is why i and others use the heater as a temporary fix to cool an overheating engine, it puts the water in the heater core into circulation and helps draw out the heat from the water anyways (however, it's always an uncomfortable situation as most cars overheat during the summer and having the heater on full blast is a sweaty situation). your head gaskets being burnt are from an issue between the circulation of the water between the engine's water jacket, water pump, radiator, and lines between the radiator and engine. lastly - you might wanna start a topic about this item in ot to get far more responses and better info.	charles! Canada	The Vent - Part Trois	takes a deep breath............................and here we go! just spent about 2.5 hours on the phone trying to book a plane trip for myself, nessa, and baby boy to go visit brazil at the end of march. the orbitz rep, who i'll refer to as "miss don't have a clue" found my account in orbitz, saw that nessa and i had a previous trip in oct 2008, and everything was going great until we got to the part about passports. oh no, nessa cannot fly on her brazilian passport. and why not? she just can't - can she get a us passport? um no! apparently miss don't have a clue, even though she was told at the start that nessa has a green card, thought that nessa was going to use her brazilian passport to enter the usa on. um no, that's what the green card is for. and she obviously couldn't relay the above information correctly to her supervisor, as the supervisor denied the booking of the plane trip too! after about 30 minutes, i was livid, to put in mildly. "you mean to tell me that you can't book a plane trip because she has a brazilian passport, the same one she used in 2008?" connect me to your supervisor! after about 25 minutes on hold, i finally get the supervisor and after asking point blank what the problem is. miss don't have a clue thought nessa was going to use her brazilian passport to enter the usa. i pointed out to the supervisor that nessa has a green card. the plane tickets are booked with the passport, and nessa shows her brazilian passport to enter brazil, but she uses the green card to get back into the states. the supervisor acknowledged that this is correct and that miss don't have a clue will get more training...... finally, after about 2.5 hours on the phone, going back and forth over this and that, we got the plane tickets booked and the supervisor waived the $25 per ticket booking fee ($75 total) due to miss don't have a clue's ineptness.	charles! Canada	The Vent - Part Trois	takes deep breath.........and here we go! as usual at this time of the year (i.e. tax time) i call farmer's life insurance because i have a life insurance policy with them and included in that policy is a savings account which i chunk about $20 a month. it was all withdrawn back in early '08 for personal reasons, so not much in the account - zero balance from apr 08, accruing at just under $21 a month.... however.....today when i call to find out how much interest was made on the account, i get some gal that has no clue. zero. nada. she tries to tell me that i have over 1k in the account, and $110 was taken out for withholding by the government. that would be a first in the 25 years i've had this policy, the government taking money out of the account for tax purposes! then i ask where my 1099 is, the paper i'm supposed to use to file taxes with on the interest. she first tells me it was sent out within the time frame specified by law - i nail her feet to the floor and ask when that was (it's nlt 31 jan) and she finally confesses it was by 31 jan. right! i believe that now! then she blames the post office for me not getting it yet - after all the post office had to lay people off! mkay, lemme see if i get this straight. i've got at least double the amount of money in there than what i expected there to be, and made about 10 times the interest i expected to make? #######! i give up on miss nada clue and call back. she was only too happy to get off the phone with me, probably because she knew i could smell the bs through the phone line. this time i get someone who knew what they are talking about. i have just over $450 in the account and made just under $7 in interest - which is why i didn't get a 1099 as it's less than $10 interest...... i don't ask for much, just for customer service reps to know ####### they are talking about!
