I wonder if anyone else feels like I do. I have been married for 4 years to an American citizen and I am Canadian. At times I think about getting my American citizenship but I just can't seem to bring myself to do it. I am a permanent resident and I am not sure why I would become an American citizen. I guess I have a strong attachment to being Canadian and am proud of my country and my heritage. I know I have nothing to lose by becoming a citizen and probably more to gain but I am what I am, no matter what you call me...I am Canadian dammit lol...does anyone else feel this way. Actually, I never really felt that patriotic about my country until I left it.....ok i am done ranting....I just wondered how other Canadians felt. huh.gif

I'm going to respect this country when I get citizenship, just as I do now.

Anyhoo, I love how we Canadians are so polite when we all have a difference of opinion. If this topic has been in the OT forum, things would be ugly by now laughing.gif

Canadasnow blower envy!
received the below in an email. some may be able to find more info on this monster:

====================================

This is what will occur when an engineer and/or auto mechanic has too much time on his hands.
Ready for another Snow Storm 454 cubic inch big block Chevrolet V8 produces 412 horsepower.
Just in case you're havin' any trouble removing snow from your driveway... This baby will blow snow back to where it came from...

And now for the rest of the story....

If you're tired of anemic, one-lung snow blowers with their slipping drive belts, you might consider Kai Grundt's V8 snow blower, which raises the bar on the traditional snow blower in every respect. With electric start, electric block heater, antifreeze heater and eight cylinders, it has no drive belts to freeze up and you'll never get bored with the job, as the 454 cubic inch big block Chevrolet V8 produces 412 horsepower, 430 foot pounds of torque and can throw snow 50 feet at just 3500 rpm.

Nor will you get cold, as the machine has been ingeniously designed to route the engine coolant through the handle bars, with the rear mounted, enclosed radiator keeping the operator nice and cozy.

Maneuvering the massive beast (it has a total wet weight of 912 lbs) is a breeze thanks to the hydraulic-drive 4WD skid steer on independent walking beams, which offers a zero turning radius.
It's also as fast as you like, with an infinitely adjustable speed range on the drive wheels via dash mounted flow control. At the opposite end of the scale, it has more than enough torque to pull your car out of the ditch before the hydraulic motors stall!

Adding to the well-balanced feel of the unit, just 15 pounds of down force on the handlebars will lift the auger blade off the ground in order to climb stairs/walkways for ease of snow removal. Safety has been, and continues to be, paramount, with spring return to center "fail safe" type directional controls with emergency stop and tether cords.

Safety is one of the key themes, with a flashing blue light (as required by law in many areas) being the least of the safety features. None will fail to hear you with those twin throaty exhausts, which come standard with 92 decibels at the controls, though if the rumble of a V8 exhaust is music to your ears, you can obviously go much louder. Even at the standard baffling, hearing protection is strongly suggested.

The powerful yard machine lights and a dashboard with back lit gauges complete the package to ease the burden of this normally reviled task. The custom 42 inch, two-stage auger has a Chevrolet 10 bolt truck differential with spool and a centrifugal auger clutch with shear pin protection, further adding to the image of this "automotive theme blower." As each unit is custom-built, optional extras for the snow blower are both diverse and outrageous as the base unit - there is unlimited auger choices from single to multi stage designs and various motor combinations to suit the religious preferences of the customer (Chevy, Dodge Hemi, Ford); and such exotica as a V-10 or a diesel engine or remote starting can be accommodated.
And if, after a while, you feel you've outgrown the 400 horses, this particular engine is well catered for in the performance modification area, with Lunati camshaft, Milodon Gear drive, Holley and Edelbrock components to name a few; and there's always the fuel injection option too, if you feel you need to throw the snow out of the county or ensure your seat in the "neighborhood blower blingster hall of fame."

CanadaOfficial misspeaks, seeks more sex stories
OTTAWA (Reuters) – A small but significant slip of the tongue had Canada's industry minister pleading for "more Canadian sex stories" on Monday, although he quickly insisted he was actually talking about success.

"We need more more Canadian sex stories," Tony Clement told an Ottawa crowd during a speech on the government's digital strategy.

A roar of laughter prevented him from correcting himself for a few seconds. "We need more Canadian SUCCESS stories ..." he said pausing to emphasize the correction, "... like RIM and its world-famous -- and now ubiquitous -- BlackBerry."

Teased by reporters about the slip, Clement insisted he had not been thinking about sex.

"The male brain is a very strange organ at times, isn't it? I have no explanation," he said.

"It really was not on my mind. I want to stress that for the record. It just sort of blurted out."

CanadaRemoving Conditions
greetings fellow timbit lovers!

i've been putting together the package for nessa's removal of conditions, this is the list so far of what i've assembled:

general:
-i 751
-check ($545 - $465+$80 biometrics)
-copy front and back of green card
-notification to renew
-copy of driver's license
-copy of military cac cards
-copy of mil id cards

sworn affidavits:
-3

bank/credit cards:
-copy of usaa checking (nov and dec)
-copy of local checking (nov and dec)
-copy credit card (joint)

taxes:
-2008
-2007
-2006

insurance:
-car insurance policy and insurance cards
- sbp paper shown on retirement account statement
- farmer's life insurance
- tricare insurance cards and assorted bills
- work papers showing on insurance (2009 and 2008 enrollments)
- delta dental bill of vanessa

property:
- vehicle titles (car, truck, trailer)
- intro letter and house transfer on death deed
- water bills

other:
- birth certificate - ben
- pictures
- post cards (neighbor, nessa's mother, and sister of charles)
------------------
now for the "dumb questions"

1. as noted above under property, there is a transfer on death deed for the house. the reason for this is i bought the house in 2003, before nessa and i met/married. citimortgage (ranting33va.gif) refused to add her to the title unless i refinanced the house - about 5-7k out of pocket for that. the base JAG office suggested a transfer on death deed, which i did and filed at the county courthouse.
- has anyone heard of this being used before as nessa isn't on the house title?

2. the taxes were filed electronically - do i need to include the entire form 1040 and the form 8879 (irs efile signature authorization).

3. how important are w-2's to be included with the above?

4. am i missing anything? unsure.gif

QUOTE (Ber + Ter @ Jul 16 2009, 01:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello fellow canucks! It's finally nice and sunny today.

But on another note, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with obtaining US Military ID. Spousal of course.

I've heard of some Filipinos getting it through the embassy in Manila, so I was wondering if the embassy in Ottawa does something similar. If not, should I just pay a visit to the US and go to a base and get it? If I do the latter, will I need a SSN?

But yeah, I'm really confused and clueless!
So if anyone has any information or experience on the matter.
Please share. <33

Thank you.

i've never heard of anyone being able to get a military id issued except at a military base. your spouse will need to complete the paperwork and send that to you, and you go to the nearest us military base to get the id card issued. your spouse may be able to ask at his location what is the nearest location to you.
ssn isn't required, they will give you a temp id card (i can't remember if the ssn field is XXX'ed or if a computer generated one is used) but as soon as you have a ssn you need to get a new card with the corrected number on it.

Well, my plan is, once I have the paperwork, I'll go visit my in laws in Las Vegas, and go to the Airforce base which is a bit north. So, it should be fine if I bring copies of his deployment orders, the papers, and they won't demand a SSN? Hmm.

How positive are you charles?! XD

ask nessa, she didn't have a ssn when she got her first dependant id card. if you know what base you'll be going to, call ahead of time and verify just to be sure things haven't changed in the past 2.5 years.

CanadaThe Annoying Co-Worker Thread
QUOTE (Rob and Mel @ Jun 29 2009, 11:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Aparently, submitting a request for a day off for a holiday that is not American is cause for intrusive curiosity at my job. I just turned in the slip to my supervisor to get Wednesday off. I thought it would be a nice day to spend with my Mel, especially as it is her first Canada Day away from her family and friends. Well, my supervisor had never heard of it and googled it to make sure that such a thing exists. He was a bit surprised and was really excited to learn more. To be honest, I don't really know anything about it. So I told him i'd have to ask my wife about it. Of course I have no intention of actually bugging her with this. But, now the bane of my existance (Theresa) has found out and at first she was asking me questions every 2 minutes. I guess my "I don't know" responses weren't good enough. So now, every 2-3 minutes, I get a summary of what she's read off the wikipedia entry about Canada. I have since then got 2 emails and someone drop by my office asking about what Canada Day is. I think i'm going to make some sh!t up and try to get them to fall for it. Can't be too far fetched though. I was thinking something along the lines of "Canada Day is a celebration of when Sir Walter Canada rode in on a moose with his army of polar bears to drive out the british troops in 1923". I did have Theresa sold on the idea that Canada was named after Sir Walter Canada rofl.gif

Damn you wikipedia!!!

and most canadians celebrate this day by igloo building and seal swatting.

The office that I work at, we share 3 printers with 8 people. Two of them have gone down, and the only one that is left while we wait to fix the other two is a very expensive color printer. Theresa is completely spazzing out because it is only supposed to be used for special projects etc for the PR team. She doens't like me printing out my reports. So, I find out this morning that she has been emailing everyone, to get them to tell me to stop printing off that printer. Her rationale? That i'm destroying a valuable resource for their department. But as they all told her, the reports and documents that I print off are highly sensitive, and it is just not possible. So she just came into my office and asked me to limit my printing. I can hear her sighing and geting all worked up just outside in her cubicle. I was printing only the sensitive documents that I am responsible for their integrity off this printer, but now, I think i'll print out a full color catalogue

color printer eh? maybe print her some porn. :innocent:

I just got a talk from someone at HR about my attire last week. One day, I wore khaki pants and a polo shirt, but I didn't tuck it in. I was told this was unprofessional...... from a woman wearing basically a tank top, jeans and flip flops. #######. I am starting to notice that women can get away with wearing jeans and flip flops, but guys can't. This isn't just at my work either. I wanna wear flip flops at work :(

sounds kinda like here - our boss holds our feet to the fire over the dress code, but rarely do other employees (who are not under my boss) follow the dress code.
