I actually did that first and then copied and pasted it here. lol.

OBX, my dog is a very small cairn terrier/corgi mix. He was in the uncrated in the back seat with my father-in-law (and behaving very well) at the time we crossed the border. Both the officer at the booth and the one who directed us where to park saw him, but neither said or asked anything about him.

And thank you everyone! biggrin.gif

Update:

So we got our mortgage confirmation on time (deadline was Nov. 15th) although they are still trying to verify stuff from my Canadian employer. They wanted a crazy amount of information and I think I sent them over 60 pages of different stuff. It was pretty much madness for me for about two weeks.

Nevertheless, the mortgage company is asking me to lock in now at 6.00% with .375 points. Can any of you give me some advice on if that is a good rate and if you think paying the .375 points is worth it?

paying points is worth it if you are going to be in the house for at least 5 years. plus the point payment is deductible for that year's taxes. i paid points and got down to 5.5% . also, how much is that .375 going to cost you?

QUOTE (Reba @ Nov 11 2008, 06:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Here in the US it just seems another opportunity for retailers to have a big sale. Its disgraceful really. I miss Remembrance Day from back home too. I keep forgetting to get my Mum to send me poppies, so I always end up making myself one from paper and a straight pin. This year James gave me one of his ribbons from a medal he was awarded (he was USMC) in 1983. Sorta made the day more special for me. He doesn't talk about stuff much.

Thanks Kath, for the bit of trivia, that's cool.

Did you know there is only one surviving Canadian veteran who was around for WWI? He's 108 years old. Britain has 3 left, the oldest being 112. The US has one left, he's 107 I think.

For those who have children, please don't let them forget. There will not be many Remembrance Days left with veterans alive to tell us about it. sad.gif

CanadaI learned something about drainage systems today
the french drains i'm used to are generally just a line of gravel under the soil.

this house i'm in has a graywater system, which is way different than a french drain. basically a 55 gallon drum filled with gravel, lots of holes in the drum, pipe runs underground to the top of the buried drum and the water runs into the rocks and then seeps into the soil.

sounds like whoever put that system in at the house you are currently in didn't do things right.

I own a home in Michigan. My g/f is unemployed and homeless in Ontario. She has been visiting with me and must return to Canada at the end of July 2008, due to being checked out at the border coming into Michigan.

Should she try and marry an American and then apply for US citizenship or should we get married in Canada and then she sponsor me for citizenship there? I am retired and don't want to lose my social security and / or pension.

We're not trying to be illegal or dishonest but we are leaving all options open. Our problem is we don't know what our options are. Can you help us?

Nothing dishonest???,,,a fraudulent marriage is dishonest and a felony...but as least, it would solve her homeless problem.

You have no options in the US. The govt does not recognize same sex marriages. Your option is to live in Canada.

you beat me to that one.

Okay, so here it goes. I was thinking the other day that some times I feel like SUCH a loser calling all of you by your screen names. It also takes a lot more effort to spell them when I want to refer to someone.

I know we use screen names for anonymity, but I just wanted to say that from now on please call me Mandy instead of thetreble laughing.gif It would make me feel so much better.

If any of you don't mind to be called by your first name, please put them here. If you do mind, then that is perfectly ok.
