I like some of the stuff in OT, but lately, the online proselytizing is getting a bit annoying. I can respect someone that has their beliefs, but why can't they accept that nobody is going to convert over the internet. Or more bluntly, that nobody really cares. I try not to mock them, but I truely find proselytizing insulting.

Ugh you guys want to hear some horror stories about working as a lifeguard for parks and rec in Toronto?

During the summer you would find peoples wallets in the change room... it was a regular occurrence. If you found a wallet, you'd take it to the manager and he would split the money with you and you'd take the wallet and put it back in the lost and found.... no word of a lie.

Anyways this one time the CAP (people who work the desks) brought up this Michael Jackson wallet, and the manager looked inside and there was 80.00 and he pulls out 40.00 and told her to keep the rest. I was standing there in shock, and he told her that no one ever claimed it and even if they did they would never suspect the employees. She was super nervous but just took it.

Later on I was downstairs at the front desk helping out and this 8 year old boy comes in with his dad and asks if we found his wallet. He explains it and its the freaking Michael Jackson wallet. I went into the lost and found and gave him the empty wallet back... and his dad says "See you found it! Is your money still there?"

And the kid looked in it, and his face went to complete sadness and he said no.

The dad was so sad but tried to lift his sons spirits by saying: "Hey well, at least you have the wallet!" and he turned to me and said: "His grandma gave him that wallet for his birthday with the money in it, shes from Alberta so they don't see eachother too often..." and he continued to tell me this super sad story.

After they left I just felt like complete ####### and left to go and bawl my eyes out. I wanted to tell him who had his poor kids money but at the same time I was scared I would get in trouble. To this day I still feel bad I didn't do the right thing and say something.

I'm no longer going to the Off-Topic forum. Any topic, no matter which one, seems to be a lesson in frustration and futility. No one listens and no one ever changes their mind.

The worst part about OT is that some people -- and I won't be naming anyone in particular -- like to toss insults at those who disagree with them. Instead of debating the topic at hand, they debate the person. It seems to be a recurring theme.

I'm all for a good debate, but not when the topic derails into "you're a moron because you don't agree with me." wacko.gif

My vent is now how my mother is planning to bring my uncle down. My uncle never has any money.
She is also expecting me to take a few days off of work and have my son take time off of school. I don't exactly agree with this and this visit wasn't planned like her June visit, she's just expecting me to drop my life because she is coming down. I was going to take a week off in June when she came down, but now she wants me to do it in a few weeks AS WELL.

Then she tells me my uncle is coming down. I like my uncle but the guy never has any money, and then I feel guilty because I want to take my mom somewhere and we have to bring him. So I told my mom yesterday that if she brought him down she'd have to have full financial responsibility of him. I wouldn't want to be put in any awkward situations because I don't appreciate it. The last time he came down for my wedding, there were sooo many awkward situations because the guy doesn't have a cent to his name. I don't even understand why my mother supports him the way she does. He has a 22 year old engaged son who lives with him, who works but pays NO rent at all or helps his parents at all, and then there's my mom buying the entire family groceries for the month. Ugh.

I have a two bedroom apartment I don't even know where he would sleep.

I wish she'd just not bring him down. This visit was unexpected and not planned and I don't feel like dealing with him for 5 days. He doesn't appreciate anything either.

just say no. him coming sounds like too much of an imposition. and tell them charles said so!

hbo sucks. you can get anything on hbo later on via netflix.

it still wants to overheat .... and the car just drives funny.. the engine is sounding really rough.... and when I stop at red lights etc.. it idles really rough, almost sounds like the car is going to stall...

sounds like something wasn't put back together right. timing may be off, head work coulda been crappy, and it sounds like overall they still didn't fix the overheating problem to begin with (remember me mentioning the clutch fan?).

my hubby (well my BF at the time) phoned a lawyer to see what was the best way to get me down to the US and that lawyer suggested that I come down here and get married and then apply for AOS...

and stupid us partially knowing that was probably not the way to go about it deiced to do it..

so my hubby insisted I drive down so that I would have a car once I was down there and silly me probbaly packed it too much...

anyways I got to the border and told the guy that I was going to LA to visit a friend for 3 weeks.. the guy looked in my car a minute and then sent me inside... they asked me a bunch of questions once inside and then they to me in another room I waited for what seemed like ages when they finally came back I told them the truth, that I was going down to see my BF and see if it worked out and then if it did we were going to get married... then they told me that I would be banned for a year... and they took my picture and fingerprints.. I guess none of the other guys there had anything to do because they were all standing around me.. I guess trying to intimidate me or something blink.gif

so after that they sent me on my way back into Canada... I cried the whole way home.. and called my BF in tears once I got home..

we got married a few months after my ban was over.... and we were a little nervous if the ban would affect our visa petition .. I did explain on the appropriate form what happened and at the interview all the guy asked was "did you have any other problems at the border besides that one time?" and I said no...

then at the POE when I had to deal with the visa stuff the guy seemed really grouchy and he punched in my info into the computer and then looked at me and said "so you were planning on moving to the US.." when he said that I was so nervous that he wouldn't let me through.. he kind of handled me a little rough when he was taking my fingerprints etc... but then he stamped my passport and sent me on my way... I was so relieved...

see, you shoulda taken lots of timbits
