Australia and New ZealandAUSTRALIAN POLICE CERT: EXPEDITED???
Anyone here ever had any luck with expediting an australian police cert? My fiance and I recieved our NOA2 in just less than 3 months..... good news right?!?!.... well almost... I am sending in all our info and fingerprints to Australian Federal Police on monday, and the estimated wait time for processing is 30 business days.... so 6 weeks.... it kind of puts us back on the old schedule :( ... anyhow I was wondering if anybody has requested police cert from Australia, and if it came quicker than 6 weeks or if they managed to have it expedited by paying a higher fee.....

thanks in advance for any responses!

Australia and New ZealandK1 Sydney Packet 3 Checklist

Australia could be different... But I thought Packet 3 was just the online DS-160 form, and a checklist confirming that you have everything else, but you don't actually send anything to them now, you bring it to your interview.

Australia and New ZealandK1 Sydney Packet 3 Checklist

Hi everyone!

Moderators, please move this to the correct thread, I'm not sure how to post in the Australia specific forum!

I'm about ready to send off Packet 3 to the US Consulate in Sydney via Express Post.

Here's what I'm including:

1.     Cover letter including table of contents

2.     Form DS-160 confirmation page

3.     Form DSL-1076 Applicant?s Statement of Readiness to be Interviewed (signed) & Checklist (just these two pages)

4.     Form DS-230 Part 1 Immigrant Visa Application Part I, Biographic Data (signed) (just the first two pages, leaving Part 2 out)

5.     Certified copy of Birth Certificate & photocopy

6.     Certified copy of Birth Certificate translation & photocopy

7.     Original Australia police certificate & photocopy

8.     Photocopy of passport biographic page

9.     Original Form I-134 (signed) & supporting documents:

-     2x letters from bank stating account information

-     letter from employer (this was scanned and sent to me, so the signature is not signed in pen, it is a copy...this ok?)

-     last three paychecks

-     2012 W2

-     2012 tax return

My medical has been done already just last week and results are being sent to the consulate. I've marked and made a note of this on the checklist.

I've ignored the instructions about forms DS-156 and DS-156K as it seems that they have replaced these with the DS-160 online form and seemingly have not updated the instructions they send out!

Am I write in thinking that the updated letters of intent (from both USC petitioner and I), proof of engagement and ongoing relationship (updated photos, emails with wedding venues etc), original birth certificate can be bought to the interview and I do not need to send these off?

If anyone can give me their thoughts, that would be soooo much appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance

OK. All you need is what they tell you on the original document that you are e-mailed for packet 3.

  • DS-160
  • I-134
  • DSL-1076 - Applicant's statement of readiness, the checklist and your supporting documents

The DS-160 has replaced the DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157 and DS-230 forms so you don't need any of those.

You don't need to send any proof of your relationship with packet 3, this was already sent with your I-129F submission and they have this at your interview. You actually don't need to bring anything to the interview except for your interview confirmation page, passport and receipt of payment for the interview. I took the cautious approach though and took updated photos, wedding invites etc but none of it was needed. I would rather be prepared for anything though so if I was you I'd probably take some along just in case.

Good luck!

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?
Thanks guys for the info! I brought to the police station the P800 form I printed out from the NSW website, as well as the US Consulate website page stating that we should use P800 full disclosure form, including the page stating that we should send all the requirements together ourselves in the packet to US consulate, so when I showed these to them it was all fine and I had my home address as the delivery address for the police clearance, so it's all good, just waiting for our NOA2...

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?

ok, i might just just go into the police station and ask for the forms today.. see how i go, thanks for that.. not sure if qld and nsw forms are the same but ill look into it.. cheers

Hi, just wondering how your visit was to the police station?
I went to the local NSW police station last week, and they gave me form P799, I told them it's for US visa purpose & the Consulate would need it.
At the back of the form it says, Form P799 - is standard disclosure, for general employment, visa, adoption, etc. and Form P800 - is full disclosure, for purposes exempt from the NSW
Criminal Records Act 1991, including employment as a teacher or teachers aide overseas.

So, I got confused and not sure if I have the right form that they gave me, so should I tell the police station to provide me P800 form instead?

Also, they would send directly the clearance to the Consulate and not to me. This is quite a problem since I want the police clearance processed early, so that this
becomes available on time when i have to send the packets to Consulate, and to avoid long delays. Anybody who can share their recent experience on this? Thanks! :)

Can i just go down and get a clearance? ANd if so - is it the National police check or the federal police check (with fingerprints). Im so confused PLEASE HELP!!!!!! :)

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?

Hi everyone,

I applied for my NSW police check a couple weeks ago. I haven't received my NOA2 yet but i wanted to get everything ready in advance. I think i used the P799 form but i stated that i needed the police check for a USA visa. I also had my fingerprints taken. Does anyone know if this is going to be a problem and will i have to have another check done using the P800 form??

You definitely need the P.800 full disclosure form in NSW. You can download it from the NSW Police web site. That will save you mucking around at the station. It costs $175.

I recently applied for the Police certificate and it took over 2 weeks to receive. I also asked for it to be posted to my home address so that I could copy it and then send it to the consulate in my packet 3.

I hope this helps you.

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?
Hi,

It's definitely the P.800 you need! I instant messaged another Australian filer who had recently had their interview and they used the P.800 and there were no problems.

Also, you can go to the NSW Police website and download the form from there if you like.

I went to Penrith Police Station, filled out the form (the lady behind the counter was unsure of which form but I put her straight). After a short wait a policeman came out and invited me around the back to the holding cells and charge counter (very interesting if you've never been there before). The fingerprints are done on a computer. You have to place each finger on the panel below the computer one at a time to be scanned. You also have to do each palm and the sides of each hand.

And that's all there is to it! Then the long wait. That's why it's good to get this out of the way beforehand. Then you only have to schedule your medical as soon as you receive your Pkt 3. My medical was completed within 7 days. (The medical's a breeze, too!)

Hope this helps.

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?
I've just been through this.
In NSW you need to get the P.800 form (not P.799) which can be downloaded online. It's the full disclosure form including fingerprints. It cost $175.
It would be expediant to get it early because it takes 10 - 15 days to process and send out. This delay caused me to delay sending the packet by more than a week. The timespan between receiving and sending Pkt 3 for me was 19 days!
You should request that it gets sent out to yourself as the Pkt 3 instructions say you need it. Whether this means to be sent back in the packet or sent direct to the Consulate I'm not sure. It probably doesn't matter.
Hope this helps.

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?

You don't need to download any form you just ring your local police station and they have the forms there and you fill it in. They will then send it off to Parramatta if you are in Sydney and the 4 weeks time you will receive it. I had them send it back to me and then sent it off with my packet for interview . Don't get it sent to Sydney consulate as it can get lost in the mail room.

Thanks for the advice! I was wondering how I was going to get it to the interview, as I know the Police normally send the certificate direct to the consulate. The other option was to obtain it through FOI. I assume it will need to be kept sealed.

We used the P800 and they seemed to accept it okay. The report will be mailed to the Consulate on our behalf with our case number.

OK - Thanks for the advice!

I've emailed the Consulate, also - I'll post their reply when I get it for the benefit of other filers.

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?
Hello,
Further to my previous question, another matter has come up:

Do any Australian (NSW) K-1 filers know for certain which form is required when applying for the Police check prior to the interview?

The Canberra Embassy website says the P.800 application form should be used to apply. Other websites, including NSW Police state that P.799 application form should be used.

I downloaded both forms and they appear to be identical, so the difference must be in the processing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

had fingerprint and name police check done dated 7 November 2013 when the first package was sent. The fingerprint cost was $120 that including name as well.

as it is now 6 months later, will the nvc require just a name check or will another full one be required? I have had no luck in getting through on the number in the US and thought perhaps someone else would have in the past few months gone through the process.

cheers

Australia and New ZealandExchanging the Money.

Perhaps this isn't just Australian specific, so mods, feel free to recategorise as you see fit.

Does anyone know the best way to exchange foreign currency in the US without losing so much? We have a very large sum that my parents gave me as a wedding/birthday gift. It's in AUD. We originally thought we'd keep it for the next trip out to Australia, but considering that won't until the end of next year, and we could do with the extra cash right now (car died), we've decided we'd like to bank it.

The dollar was making up 93c USD to $1 AUD. We called our banking institution. They said their rate was 88c USD to $1 AUD. Plus they charged a $200 fee for just having to bother exchanging it. No, thanks. It may not seem that much of a difference, but it really all adds up.

So, now we're looking at other alternatives. Anyone been in this situation before? Anyone found a good solution without us losing so much?

Thank you.

Australia could be different... But I thought Packet 3 was just the online DS-160 form, and a checklist confirming that you have everything else, but you don't actually send anything to them now, you bring it to your interview.

Hmm yes there does seem to be a grey area with this.

The instructions the US Consulate sent to me say:

"As soon as you have obtained all of the documents that apply in your case, carefully read the
statement on Page 6, complete, sign, date it and return only Page 6 to this office together with all
your applicable documents. "

Of course at the same time, some of the instructions are outdated too (like they instruct you to fill out DS-156 etc, which they stopped using in October...they really need to update their instructions!!)

I've read that some people have only sent their checklist and confirmation page, but if I have everything ready I figure there's no harm sending them too, its not going to cost more money or anything!

Just had another look at the website and clearly says to use the form 799 and pay $52

Make an appointment, and then appear in person at your local police station. You must pay the fee of A$52 (subject to change, please check the current fee with the police) and complete an application form. Please ensure you complete form P799

I guess the rules have changed

#######, wish I'd found this earlier. Since there's nothing on the canberra embassy website that says anything about fingerprints, I did the $50 check last week, waitning for it to process now. Why does everyone believe the fingerprint check is required, and has anyone tried without? Do I need to start again, or is there a chance NSW police will add fingerprints to the current check?

Australia and New ZealandK1 visa police certificates answer from US Consulate

You can apply for the NSW police certificate online but you need to go to a police station with your ID too. When I went to my local police station they tried to tell me I needed to apply for the 'fingerprint' cert. I insisted this is not correct and ask them to proceed anyway with the name check only. They very reluctantly agreed... I had no problem at the interview. I brought the police cert based on name only and there was no issue. So just keep in mind if your local police tries to convince you to apply for the fingerprint, just refuse as it costs more and is not necessary.

Did you wait til you had your case number for this? Considering they do not send it to the consulate, I cannot see why one would need to wait until they had the NVC case number.

Australia and New ZealandK1 visa police certificates answer from US Consulate

I decided after so much conflicting information regarding police certificates for NSW specifically, I would email the Sydney U.S. consulate to ask them directly what was needed.

My email sent yesterday:

Hi there,

I live in NSW and I am looking for information regarding obtaining a police certificate for the purpose of the K1 visa as I could not find consistent information on the Sydney consulate website.

1. When applying for a police certificate for the K1 visa, do residents of NSW need a police certificate based off a fingerprint check? (The information on the Canberra embassy website has not indicated fingerprints are required)

2. When applying for a police certificate for the K1 visa, if the police criminal records department have sent the certificate directly to the beneficiary rather than the U.S. consulate, can the beneficiary bring this to the Sydney consulate and will this be accepted on the interview day?

Thank you for your assistance.

Sydney U.S. Consulate response:

Thank you for your email.

You only need to apply for 1 Australian police certificate and it can be based on a name or fingerprint check.

A police check based on name check only must contain all aliases previously and presently used. Failure to provide a name check certificate with all aliases may result in the consular officer refusing your application for a police certificate based on a fingerprint check.

And yes, you may provide a valid police certificate on the day of interview.

Regards,

U.S. Consulate General, Sydney

Immigrant Visa Unit (BC)

SydneyIV@state.gov

http://canberra.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas.html

From this they state that you can get either with or without a fingerprint check - the purpose is to check All of your known aliases against any criminal records, but fingerprints are not a primary requirement unless you have not disclosed all known aliases.

Also, they are fine with the police certificate being brought on the day.

I hope this helps someone!

Thanks!

It does seem strangely long. I had my packet 3 from them less than 2 weeks after NVC sent it out to Australia.

Send an email to sydneyiv@state.gov and maybe contact NVC as well  -- It can take a few business days to get a response from Sydney consulate, in body of email put you NVC case# , receipt # etc

Australia and New ZealandNever received 'Packet 3' - what should I do!?

We are just a little bit behind you.  We are finishing out things with NVC and they should be sending the case over to the local embassy (Japan in our case) soon. My wife calls the (Tokyo) embassy public assistance office about once a week to see if they have anything new on our case.  We gave up waiting for the various offices to contact us...and we contact them asking them whats up with out case.  We usually just get a run around or unclear answers but it seems to be better than waiting.  Sometimes we've been told to please  wait some more....then in a day some email will come from them.  I'm not sure if the public relations people really know what the actual case workers are doing in the other rooms.  It sometimes seems that they don't.  I would recommend you contact the Sydney people regularly by email, phone, and old fashioned paper mail if you must.  Keep knocking (nicely) and every now and again you will get answers and can better plan and predict your next steps.  Good Luck!

It would be better if the grandparents called, as they have direct knowledge of what the child said, and possibly physical evidence.

Of course, it is also possible the child is angry with mom/ missing dad and making it up.

He can get his blood tested for immunity or he can get the vaccinations again.  I suggest getting them through his doctor or health clinic (or Aus equivilant) as they may be cheaper than getting them done at the medical.  I'm not sure if Australia can get a medical before the interview date is set or not.  But he only has 6 months from the medical date to immigrate so it's best to do it as close to the interview as possible.

Yes the process has changed recently and the websites (including this one and the US Embassy website) have not been updated. Just follow the instructions that you get via email from the Sydney IV section, and if you have any questions post here, and people who have recently gone through the process will help you. Unfortunately it's been a while since i did the process, so I can't help with specifics!

There is a website you can get your photos done yourself to the correct specifications, I think it's this one: https://www.epassportphoto.com/

Also I hope your fiance received the NOA2 (the I-129f approval notice) in the mail. You are going to need a copy of that down the road.

Australia and New ZealandMedical examination before or after visa interview with consulate in AUSTRALIA

Most of the required vaccinations you would have already got as a child, but the blood tests your doctor took will show immunity either from vaccinations or having the disease.

For most people, the only ones that are actually required (from memory) are tdap, MMR, varicella, and influenza if flu season. The rest are waived. Someone correct me if I got those wrong, there might be one more.

At the medical exam they will be using form DS-3025. Check that list. Most people in Australia only need 1 or 2 shots, if any, because they have already had the shot (or disease) or it is waived.

Sammie, I've heard of people doing this, it's not usually a problem for Sydney. Your visa won't be approved on the day but they will approve it once they get the required documents.

However how do you know which vaccinations you need? A lot of the vaccinations on the list are waived. Also why do the vaccinations take 3 weeks? Are you getting both rounds of vaccinations? You only need the one round for the visa. If you want to save time, and not get unnecessary shots, I would just get them at the medical.
