Australia and New ZealandInterview questions about U.S. visits

Hello everyone!

Anybody had any further questions regarding previous trips to usa prior to meeting your spouse?

I ask because my intervie at the Sydney U.S. consulate is in 12 days and I have visited the U.S. when I was 18 - 23 years old, 5 times over a 5 year period prior to meeting my fiancé because i was visiting friends there.

Any advice or feedback?

Sweetswinks,

We were asked how we met, and my spouse was asked some questions about her medical exam (we're nearly 60, and she has high blood pressure and a metal device closing up a hole in her heart).

That's all we were asked.  Period.  We were not asked any specifics about her travel to the US.  She's traveled to the US about 6 times on the Visa Waiver Program in the last 5 years.

It was the easiest interview we've ever had!!!

I'm July 1st! See you there! I'm a bit worried that it doesn't seem like I need to take very much except copies of things which they have all the originals of.. I'm nowhere near having 400 pages of stuff like some others say they do. I have 5 folders of 10-15 pages each at most. Have you prepared everything yet?

I have same interview date as you and I was thinking of flying out the 12th but I don't want to bring myself stress so I'm flying out the 18th, well prepared though to possibly have the papers by the 9th of course, but I'd rather that than to be waiting by the mail box because I have a flight to catch!

We're not a same sex marriage but I did change my last name to my hubbies. I was able to change it on my drivers license and social security card.

Oh okay thank you so much.

I'm just sending all my clothes and my sons. He's not entitled to any baggage at all and we're not permitted to buy any extra luggage because it's a layover flight or whatever reason. So I just want to send them all

Australia and New Zealandwhat did you take to the interview for evidence?

Hi guys,
My interview is in 3 weeks and im really freaking out! I know I have way to much evidence so thought I would ask what people took?
I really need to narrow it down! My partner and I have been living here in Aus for 5 years now so we have everything you could imagine! Thanks guys!

Hey you may want to post in the regional forum to find out what's expected from your respective country. The amount and type of evidence may vary. Also read embassy reviews.
All the best on your interview!!!!!

Australia and New ZealandInterview questions about U.S. visits

I interviewed in Sydney at the end of May.

Since meeting my 'now husband' :) in November of 2012, I had visited 3 times using the VWP, each time for 88 days. And 1 unrelated 'vacation' trip back in 2008.

I was asked the longest length of time I had visited for, and I'm assuming this was just to verify that I had never overstayed the 90 day max, and that was all.

The staff there are extremely nice and you will be nervous, as I was - But so long as you're genuine and honest, you have nothing to worry about :)

Good luck with the interview! It's a fantastic stage to be at - Next stop USA! :D

Ok you guys, since you're way ahead of me (just got I-130 approved today) maybe you can answer me a very confusing question: at NVC stage they ask for docs you guys mentioned like police Certs etc. I'm planning on sending all originals of everything (and more) to NVC. What is the stuff we have to bring to sydney then? If they'll already have all of our original police Certs, birth and marriage Certs etc?

I thought it was only extra evidence (and copies of everything already sent just in case) and the medical. And there's the "I'm ready for interview" form too... Right?

I'm a little hazy on this cuz it seems a but different for sydney than other places... No?

Please help!!

Depends why you need to know i guess.

Really, if you are married, then you married everywhere. You just may or may not have the same legal rights as a straight married couple.

grats!   Things are moving so fast (well, relatively, compared to the NOA2 lol)  I am watching your info like a hawk, bc I am waiting for the NVC case number/email.  It has been 2 weeks since NOA2.  So I am trying to give it till next week before calling to find out the case number.  Best of luck for the interview!  And I hope travel can happen soon after.   :)

Thank you! We're using our airline miles so that puts us at booking on July 8th which should give them enough time to get his visa to him. We have all of the documents already and I sent more than enough for my part of the packet.

Our email came this morning at 1am after I had just turned the laptop off to go read lol. Our interview is June 24 at 10:45am. Now I know, I know, they say don't buy the tickets until the visa is in hand. But.... Is there a chance they will have it back to him by July 3 or so for a flight home? I work a 50+ hr job and since I was awesome to my boss for working yesterday she's agreed to let me have July 3 & 4th. Thoughts?

Hello all,

I know there was the case a few days ago where someone said they had looked for the email for days, and it was in the spam box the whole time. But how long was the "whole time"? I received the letter from NVC advising me to have my fiance fill out the DS-160 in the mail Thursday, and the visa package arrived in Sydney on Friday. I know the DS-160 doesn't trigger the interview email, my question is more when to expect it...hopefully this week? I assume going on what I've read, we'll be set for the last Tuesday in June which we want as early as possible obviously. So when did ya'lls emails come in and how far out was the interview?

WE GOT APPROVED!!!!! They asked him stuff about my job, if he'd met my family, why he hadn't met my parents (long story) but he said well they're dicks to her which made the male interviewer laugh. Where we would be living, what I do for a living, timeline of our relationship and who in my family/friends has he met. But WERE APPROVED!!!! I was about to have a heart attack waiting since it took forever, he got there too early so they kept telling him to come back in an hr until basically it was time for his interview. I'll get more details later but omg we're approved!!!

Hi Crymwest!

Just wondering how you knew the visa package had arrived in Sydney on that day? Were you tracking it on the DHL website from NVC? Just asking cos my ceac changed to "In transit" and i've been waiting a week for it to arrive. Thanks!

sweetswinksFemaleAustralia2014-06-19 23:45:00
Australia and New Zealandwhat did you take to the interview for evidence?

I took all of our original evidence that we sent in with our packet.  The scariest thing is the interviewer literally stared me in the eyes the whole time! So I felt so awkward and was thrown off answering some of the questions!  But the best part was at the end is when the interviewer handed me my approved and said congratulations on it!  Good luck! :)

I'm okay with eye contact normally but this would throw me off!

Bills in both our names
Defacto relationship register
Engagement ring appraisal
medical records showing we got our bloods groups tested on the same day
police checks from IVF from the same day
IVF letters with our names on them
100 photos

OMG. Someone stop me! Were different because we have been living together for so long. We have kept every bill, let, invoice, etc since we met for this! Too much!!

Australia and New Zealandmedical and the flu...

Thanks Hun! how are you going getting the evidence organised?

I have more paper than floor at my place! I think I'm overthinking what I need to bring! I have to halve it and then halve it again!!!

Honestly?! I have a notebook list of HEAPS of stuff i could print out but I am so nervous that i've been procrastinating!

I'm gonna bring;

1. FB convo screen shots (A4 size page),
2. skype screenshots (A4 size page)
3. Photos (4 or so)
4. Paypal transfers to each other
5. Wedding plans/save teh dates etc

Maybe too much, maybe not quality enough but who knows, I keep reading that Sydney doesn't ask for evidence of the relationship, more just the I-134's and relevent stuff from the Packet 3 checklist.

What are you bringing with you?!!?!

Australia and New ZealandK1 Visa - confused about next step?

I emailed them on Friday and got a response this morning (Tuesday). It turns out that they emailed my fiancé on the 16th of May! I think it may have gone to spam and got deleted.

The bad news is that our appointment is on the 23rd of June...in one week...and we have nothing sorted, since we were waiting for the packet.

Questions:
1. Should I reschedule or go? I probably won't have the medical yet.
2. I've been trying to make an appointment for the medical here in Sydney. The first place said the wait is over a month, and I tried ringing medibank, waiting on hold for 49 minutes and gave up. I'm debating going to Melbourne or Brisbane. This is ok, isn't it?
3. Anyone know how long it takes for the police check?

I'm freaking out now! I dont want to reschedule and push it back but I will if I dont have enough for the interview. Any advice is very much appreciated!

We have the same interview date on july 15!  :)

You should reschedule because you need to bring your I-134, supporting sponsor documentation, and police certificate.

You only need a name check from the police UNLESS you have been known by other aliases (I contacted the U.S. consulate last week with their response explaining this) the turn around time is 10 business days.

I'm in Sydney and my medical is 2 weeks away, I booked yesterday.

Australia and New ZealandK1 Visa - confused about next step?

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been answered previously, I've been searching and am confused about the next step.

My partner and I have lodged and have an approved I-129F petition. We received the letter from the U.S. Department of State saying that the petition will be forwarded to Sydney, Australia. I was told on this letter that I must complete the DS-160 form, which I have done.

This was three weeks ago, and I'm confused about the next step. I was under the impression that I should receive a package from the Consulate in Sydney about what to do next, however I've had no correspondence. I've been reading all day and now it seems I'm supposed to pay the fee and setup my own appointment? I'm so confused.

Am I missing something? I'm sure I am, I'm just so confused! I appreciate any help, and I REALLY appreciate this website and everyone involved.

Thanks so much.

Kristina

Hi Kristina,

Could you update your timeline please? If you have received your NOA2 or petition approval you should update your timeline to reflect this.

Your approved petition should have a case number assigned from DOS/NVC. I suggest checking your visa status at https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ Check the status under "Immigrant" and enter your Case number from NVC which should start with SYD2014-xxx-xxx

Sydney consulate will send you what is called "packet 3" which is your interview date and the checklist of required forms to bring to your interview.

There have been a few cases of this email being sent to the Spam or junk folder so I suggest you check there, and ask your petitioner spouse to check their email spam and junk inboxes too.

If it's not in yours or your fiancé's email spam/junk/inbox folder then you can send Sydney consulate an email with the case number you received from DOS/NVC in the subject and explain you have filled out DS-160 already.
