Australia and New ZealandNEW ZEALANDers heading to the US and their USC spouses - POST HERE!
Hey everyone, just a quick update! We got a RFE a few weeks ago (December 30) due to my fingerprints being taken twice and still being unreadable. So we had to get the local police department to write a letter to say that I have no criminal record in the state of Kansas. I sent this back to USCIS the other day!

My travel application got approved!!!

However, I also got a notice saying that they need to take my fingerprints again because they couldn't process the ones they took the other week sad.gif They had A LOT of trouble getting my fingerprints, so what if it happens again?

I am in the graphic design industry smile.gif I used to be the art director of Lucky Break magazine in NZ and before that I was a designer for good old Woman's Day xD Here in the US I would be willing to take on ANYTHING to do with design, as I figure it will be really difficult for me to find a job even in that field!

Yay thanks! Whoa Kansas is a long way from the ocean! Do you ever miss it? I really want to go to Port Angeles because Twilight was filmed there hehe (shameful I know!)

Snow is awesome! It snowed in Richland, my SO's town, on Christmas day last year and it doesn't often snow there, so that was pretty neat, felt just like being in a sno-globe.

Where did you guys all live back in NZ? I can't wait to move from a big city to a small town happy.gif

Yes Twilight was filmed there xD

I lived in Bucklands Beach, Auckland all my life until now. I miss Auckland, but I don't miss the ocean as much as I thought I would. I think I have adapted quite well to Kansas! However, we are thinking about eventually moving to San Francisco, similar climate to Auckland and way more jobs smile.gif

Does anyone here plan on ever returning to NZ to live one day?

Had my biometrics taken on Monday. The woman had LOTS of trouble getting my finger prints because apparently I use a computer too much and type on a keyboard which makes them harder to see mellow.gif She got them in the end though! And she said to expect an interview letter within 90 days!

Oh and also, she asked for our marriage license. It didn't say to bring it on the letter, but luckily I brought everything just in case!

Not a peep. There are a few of us in the June AOS thread in the same boat, transfers to CSC, that haven't heard a thing. I laugh now to think we all were pretty happy about that, as it was meant to be so much quicker. A lot of people from the same time that had interviews have already got their cards.

I will be so pleased to get this over with..for a while wacko.gif

Good luck on the job front...lol..I have never heard of a group interview!

It's has to be coming soon. It's been like 4 months now hasn't it? Fingers crossed that it comes through VERY soon and then you can put it all behind you for the next 21 months yes.gif (come on CSC get a move on!!)

Nearly 4 months since the transfer...we filed in June.

I hope it arrives soon cdneh. How long does it usually take?

Megger: Welcome to the thread! Everyone here is very helpful so if you have any questions just ask! I wouldn't know what to do without them smile.gif

Oh wow we're all going to be really spread out - I'll be in Washington state, I love it there, reminds me a lot of NZ. My SO's town is about a 3 hour drive southeast of Seattle and is a hell of a lot drier than the rest of Washington - 300 days of sunshine a year though! I love the consistency about that because the weather changes every hour in Akld and it's driving me nuts wacko.gif

Have you decided when you are traveling yet?

Thankyouuuuu!!! biggrin.gif I brought heaps of evidence with me like chat logs and photos and emails, but he didn't ask to see any of it, which I took to be a good thing. Although I don't think I'll feel truly relieved until I have the visa in my hot little hand! lol

I'll be leaving NZ around late March/early April as that's when my SO can come over during his spring break and have me go back with him. It gives me a few months time to save up as much money as possible and spend plenty of time with my friends and family before I go, because we won't be able to afford to come back for a while sad.gif

Is it getting really cold where you are? Auckland has been having this awful humid and overcast weather, but definitely isn't feeling like summer yet!

Hey guys, well I've been conditionally approved pending my police report clearance, which I'm sure will be fine lol.

There was a loooooot of waiting around! The lady who gathered my documents was really lovely, and I think I actually spoke to the interviewer man for about 5 minutes, he just asked me the regular questions - how we met, how many times we've met in person, what he does over there, what I do over here, what our families think, etc.

So hopefully I'll have my passport back with my visa in it sometime next week smile.gif

Thanks Kim and Kiwiana smile.gif you can bet the first thing I'll be doing is rushing back to work to jump on here and tell you all lol!

I'll be moving back to my parents this weekend so I can really concentrate on saving up as much money as possible to help support me over there (still not used to the idea of having to depend on someone else), so that's going to give me an opportunity to clean out a whole bunch of stuff!

Glad I wasn't the only one that had to have the tetanus shot - my arm hurt like hell for a week!!

Well I had to go back to the doctors because they found I wasn't immunized against measles or mumps... so now the medical is officially over, almost $500 later! Did it cost that much for any of you??

I also forgot to sign the police clearance form (whoops) and I only just received it back in the mail on Saturday. I couriered it to the consulate today although seeing as my interview is on Thursday, I doubt they're going to get it back from the police in time anyways. Should I contact them to reschedule my interview or do I just wait and see what happens?

OMG so packet 3 was waiting for me as I got home from work tonight! biggrin.gif

I'm reading over it and it sounds fairly straightforward, just the medical that sounds confusing! I'm sure I'll be alright, I might go to the one in CityMed (near my work) as I've been there before and I'm pretty sure they have lab/x-ray facilities there too. geez I'm going to feel like I've had a warrant of fitness after all that poking and prodding! blink.gif

How soon after you send back the forms do they schedule you an interview? Also, what sort of amount of funds are they looking for me to have? I've barely started saving up! and I don't necessarily have any recent photos of us together... just some from when I was there in July and even then I think we're only together in one or two.

It's actually kind of a relief to hear the interview is conducted so casually, I have this scary image of a small and dingy interrogation room with a bright light LOL. If they take your bag from you though does that leave you with nothing to entertain yourself (not even a book?) while you wait for the second part of the interview...?

think that's all the questions for now! thanks for all the advice, I'd be lost without you guys star_smile.gif

I work a little bit further up Queen Street from the Embassy in Auckland, which is pretty handy, and I'm not too far a drive from the doctors in Remuera either. I'm trying to compile a whole bunch of evidence for the interview (emails, IMs, text messages, phonecalls etc) but I'm still terrified that it's not going to be sufficient as he can't come to the interview and I don't have a ring yet.

Did any of you guys go to the interview by yourself??

Just a few questions... how long does the petition usually hang out at the NVC for before it comes to NZ? My fiance is starting to work on the affidavit of support but what are you supposed to do with it, or does the embassy explain these things in the package they send you? Silly questions I know but I just hate not knowing what to expect.. wacko.gif

Congrats on getting married :star:

I didn't get a doctor here to certify the form. I just sent in the copy of the vaccination form that the doctor that did the medical in NZ gave me. It went through ok so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Probably more important to get your paperwork filed and then reply to any RFE you may get. At least that way it'll be in the system and underway

Cdneh..... you're too kind......

Hello Scarolette :)
I did go over and read your thread, and I think the best advice is some of what you got there. A good Immigration lawyer is probably where you need to go. You may need a waiver, but one thing you do need is some sound advice. If you have contacts in the Embassy there I'd use them. There was another chap from AKL who had to get a waiver, and that was successful in the end. It was earlier in this thread I remember.

There is a waiver forum on VJ that may help in a general sort of way :

Does anyone know how long, after sending consent for the police cert, it takes for the certificate to come through? Is the consent part of p3? I see that your p4's seem to come through quite quickly so I wonder if the process is quicker if the embassy requests the certificate because it took 6 weeks for the one I requested to arrive!

Thanks,
Emma

Not sure on that one. I understood that if you are going through Auckland, so in the country, they would not accept a Police Cert you got on your own. Where you are not IN the country that may make a difference. It wasn't very long after I sent the consent form back to AKL that I was interviewed and it seemed to be about 10 days or so. They may get priority as they are a consulate :)

Well at the time I thought I would give it a go. The worst they could do was send me an RFE.

We got held up at NVC for almost 7 weeks on AP before I got here, so at least I knew if they did send an rfe we would be waiting for it together

Hey everyone! I've been in the US for a few weeks now, really enjoying it. Aside from all the wedding planning, we just bought a cheap little runaround car for me, it's even a manual! Looks like everything is going smoothly for all of you too :)

I have a question about the I-693 form that you have to complete so that your vaccinations are recorded properly for the AOS - I don't have a copy of the vaccination worksheet that the doctor filled out at my medical, how am I going to prove that I've had them done so I don't have to have another one? I have receipts from the medical center but maybe I should try and obtain a copy...? damn :(

Hello..congratulations on getting here, and on the car !

I had a similar problem. I had the sheet that I got from Dr Stone, and the consulate in Auckland had given me two copies of the vaccination report that had their raised seal on it. Dr Stone said his office would mail me a copy, and it hadn't turned up in a week so I rang them and they sent one out. You could give that a try. Worth the phone call if it saves repeating the medical, that gets spendy!

The two copies that I got from the Consulate...I know I had them here. I even showed them to my husband and said "I need this when we file for the green card"

When I went to fill out the paperwork neither one was anywhere to be found. I looked everywhere and never found them Still don't know what happened to them.
So when it came time to file, all I had was the copy Dr Stone's office mailed me. I sent that in, and I sent them a copy of every receipt I had...for the titre test from my Dr, the receipts I got from the medical and exray and blood work that you have at the medical. I did not get anyone to complete I-693, and I didn't have a problem, did not get an RFE either. It seems the luck of the draw, some that filed when I did were asked to get the form done, but just as many were not. I decided as I was here, and if they wanted to RFE me..so what lol. I didn't have any trouble at all.

:D
