Australia and New ZealandNEW ZEALANDers heading to the US and their USC spouses - POST HERE!
Hi Guys ...... remember me devil.gif

Well I made it back at the end of Sept (28th) and promptly came down with bronchitis or the flu or some such thing, major chest infection though and quick onset, lucky I brought some augmenten back with me.

My Aunt hung on till I was back here for two days and then she passed away, but I was just glad that I got to spend alot of the 3 weeks with her.

I went through most of the rest of my stuff back home and $875 later .......sent 4 of the largest NZ Post boxes back here wacko.gif
I took em to the post office the day before I left and they arrived here today, pretty beat up and I have to replace a few CD cases, I think they musta been playing rugby with them at the airport or something blink.gif

Still looking for a job, have sent in a few applications, we'll just have to wait and see. How are you going with it Kiwiana?

What has everyone done about medical insurance, I still haven't got that sorted and after being so sick in the last week or so, I really need to do something. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cdneh - What is it with your paperwork ...again.....must be a bad case of de ja vue for you, I'm sure it'll all be sorted out soon.....fingers crossed.

Kim :0)

Congrats Ana........Hope you had a nice break in Vegas after all your dmv and USCIS dramas. NIce one finding your GC in the mail when you got home......perfect end to your break away kicking.gif

Cdneh you won't be far behind I'm sure good.gif

Well I made it back home after dragging my backside across the country to LA and then the long flight home. Made a list of foods I was missing before I got here and am working my way through it one by one. Not everything is as good as I remember it I have to say....lol, however I'm eating a roast lamb dinner at the moment which is hitting the spot nicely star_smile.gif

My Aunt is still hanging on and is still coherent when she's not sleeping. It's been good to see her and spend some time with her.

I'm going to make a start tomorrow on the box of things I stashed away before I left. Hopefully I can be ruthless and get rid of alot of it, fill up my case with some and send some via the post.

It's been a frantic couple of weeks that's for sure wacko.gif

It's great to hear that you made it there safe and sound good.gif
What's it like to be back over there again? Is there anything that you really missed about nz (apart from obviously family and friends) Have you noticed anything different/changes or anything hard to adjust to over there, now that you have been away from the country for awhile?

Hope you manage to get stuck into sorting out your things. Its amazing how time consuming it is! yes.gif

This week i am going to try and sit my written driving test at the dreaded DMV!! biggrin.gif I tried to make an online appointment at the local office here but they don't accept appointments for it, so will have to try the good old fashioned walk in and wait and wait and wait trick!! tongue.gif

Good luck at the DMV good.gif I'm sure you'll be fine

Family and friends I def miss and maybe the odd thing to eat but that's about it. I seem to miss home when I'm away but when I came back I remember why I was over alot of things before I left. I'm sure I'll miss it all again when I'm back there.

I've got piles of stuff everywhere and deciding what to get rid of is the really hard part. Got some boxes from the post office today and will start filling them in the morning. Will head back out south to Waiuku and the Aunts place on Thursday. I'm so glad i came when i did.

Can't wait to get back to my sweetie though blush.gif

I'll be so glad when this is finally all sorted wacko.gif star_smile.gif

Kim: not sure if you have already headed to nz or not yet but just want to wish you a safe journey!! good.gif

Oh congratulations..... your card will be there in a few days I'm sure. good.gif kicking.gif

I leave on Saturday 2.28pm from Memphis with a connection in LA and Air NZ to Auckland. Haven't flown them long haul before, only to Aussie, but it was a good price $1980. NZD return including all taxes and both the connections between LA & Memphis.

At the moment I have suitcases open and stuff all over the bedroom. Didn't think I'd be having to do this again so soon wacko.gif

When they did my first state ID they had my zip code round the wrong way. I didn't realise till i got home and when I went back the next day they couldn't make a new one fast enough. I'm pretty sure it's importrant that all info on it is correct so I'd definately get it redone. Pain in the rear end I know mad.gif

I wish the departments where we live would be as efficient as the ones where you live!! yes.gif I noticed that the ID is only valid till June next year. So i may just wait till then and correct the mistake.(the thought of waiting ages at DMV again is a very daunting one LOL!)

Some good news though, about half an hour ago i got the email from cris saying that card production was ordered on 28th august.. yay!!! star_smile.gif

Oh wonderful news, that means your card should arrive sometime next week I would think. kicking.gif kicking.gif

As you're planning on going for your license soon, you're probably right to not worry too much about the ID. They'll take that off you when they process your DL.

Does anyone know how we go about changing the name on our passport and do you have to pay the full amount of a new one? Mine doesn't expire until 2012 so I really don't want to have to fork out the full hundred odd dollars when it's still got 3yrs on it.

I'm in the process of booking a flight home, it'll be around this weekend or thereabouts. My Aunt (2nd Mum) is nearing her end they think and I have to go. I can't not. Not sure for how long yet but it will be at least 3 weeks. I will go with 2 mostly empty suitcases and carry on and bring back as much as my stuff as I can squeeze in. Am seriously missing my music and lots of my clothes that are virtually new. Will also bring back food I've been missing.

Cdneh - how much was it to send stuff back via the post again and did you just get the boxes from the ordinary post office?? I know you've mentioned it before but I don't have the time to trawl back through all our pages right now......lol

Woohoo I'm so happy for ya Zeddess! I read on VJ that the wait times for the I-129F part is only 5 months right now! That's a huuuge improvement from the 8 months it took us good.gif

kelzm: Congrats on your job! I am expecting my work permit in about 3 months, so I too will be looking soon. I think I will start looking in a month or so for volunteer work (i.e. free work experience) at a place so that I can get something on my resume. We'll see how it goes though. I'm a little worried it'll be hard to find a job close by in my field.

We received our NOAs today for our AOS etc. Now just waiting for the biometrics appointment letter etc! Is there anyway to track the progress of our AOS forms right now?

Congratulations to you too!

You can follow the AOS papers at the same website you followed the K1, you just enter the numbers off your notices. If you haven't got an account from then you can make one really easily.

I went to the bank to put my name on Evan's account because we are married now. They said they needed a government form of ID. SO I went to get a Kansas state ID card today and they said they can't give me one until my status has been adjusted because my I-94 expires on November 5. They need it to be valid for 60 days at least to give me a state ID sad.gif How did you guys all get a joint bank account?

Like cdneh, we went to Bank of America and didn't have any trouble either. I showed my nz passport, ssn, marriage certificate and i think that was all and that was for a joint account (My SO never had a bank account either)

Maybe try and go to a different bank? The ssn, passport and marriage certificate should be enough evidence. Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your advice guys! I was feeling sooo down after getting back from the State ID license place. I think we are going to call Bank of America tomorrow and ask what they require here in Kansas. It seems like Kansas is a little more strict than other states. Apparently in CA you only need a SSN to get a state ID blink.gif

It says to supply "An explanation or other evidence showing the circumstances that warrant issurance of an Advance Parole Document". Did you write a letter? Did you just explain it was 'just in case'?

For the I-765 (employment authorisation), do we need to submit with this 2 EXTRA passport style photos and copies of my passport? I have already included 2 x passport photos + 1 x copy of passport pages for the I-485.

When i sent my AOS package in, i mailed in 2 photos for I-485, 2 photos for I-765 and 2 photos for I-131 (total of six pics). I also enclosed passport pages for all three of the forms too to be on the safe side smile.gif

Hi guys,

So we finally got the NOA2! YAY!!! I know it's not huge news but it means that the wait is over at last (it was a looooong 3 months) and now things will start to move quickly and become more real and scary. No doubt I'm going to have a lot of questions in the coming weeks about all the forms and the medical and the interview, eeeeek.

Very sad to hear about your aunt, Kim. it was lovely that you were able to spend that time with her though.

There was a loooooot of waiting around! The lady who gathered my documents was really lovely, and I think I actually spoke to the interviewer man for about 5 minutes, he just asked me the regular questions - how we met, how many times we've met in person, what he does over there, what I do over here, what our families think, etc.

So hopefully I'll have my passport back with my visa in it sometime next week smile.gif

Hi everyone!
So, I filed our I-129f about a month ago, and I was just wondering if you all have any advice about things my SO might be able to get a jump on to makes things easier once we get our NOA2 and things start rolling.... He's in Christchurch, so getting to Auckland to do anything before he's there for the interview is a bit of a mission, but if you have any advice about things we should start getting underway, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Megan

He can have his medical in Christchurch, which is good. He could make sure he has a copy of his vaccinations record ready for that. I am trying to remember what I did and when, but our case ended up in AP for nearly 8 weeks so I had a bit of extra time to kill. I know I assembled things like email printouts, and chat logs, evidence of an ongoing relationship sort of thing. I probably lugged 10 pounds of paper in to my interview blush.gif

Below is the listing for the doc in Christchurch, from the Embassy link smile.gif
CHRISTCHURCH:
Dr. Wilson / Dr. Brown (03) 366 0235 248 High Street, High St Mall
Medical Center, National Mutual Arcade

Well I had to go back to the doctors because they found I wasn't immunized against measles or mumps... so now the medical is officially over, almost $500 later! Did it cost that much for any of you??

I also forgot to sign the police clearance form (whoops) and I only just received it back in the mail on Saturday. I couriered it to the consulate today although seeing as my interview is on Thursday, I doubt they're going to get it back from the police in time anyways. Should I contact them to reschedule my interview or do I just wait and see what happens?

Congrats on getting the medical done and that all went well good.gif the medical cost me $125, then $50 for tetanus (like Kim, i had to have one aswell), $80 for xrays and $31 for blood test. So in total $286!

Very best wishes with your interview this week!! let us know how you get on!! smile.gif

I had the titre test done, which was a couple of hundred plus, but it did show all i had to have was the tetanus. I got mine at my doctor after the lab results were back, so I got it for 10$

Wishing you luck for the interview! We will be waiting to hear back good.gif

I know for a fact that i wouldn't have been able to get through this without the information and knowledge of VJ and its members.. We had originally sent in the I-129f papers around April of 2008. We had no idea what we were doing and heaven knows what uscis thought when they received our forms. The whole package was a mess. They returned it to my SO about 5-6 weeks later with the money order we had sent.

Then i found VJ online and sent in the correct forms etc and the rest they say is history!! star_smile.gif

How right you are........ without this site and the people on here who help out and point you in the right direction I doubt we'd be where we are now good.gif star_smile.gif

I wonder. My husband wanted a lawyer to do the K1, I dunno why but he did. He was useless, the lawyer, as they so often are.

When we struck AP after the NOA1 he insisted that there was no such thing for k1's, and that some one told us the wrong thing at NVC and not to worry about it we would already be on the way to the AKL consulate just the same.

He never once responded to a single email I sent him, but he would answer my fiancee. In spite of many requests that he CC me, and answer me, he never did. Some of what he told Chase about the things we needed, and the paperwork to file were dead wrong. I preferred to go by VJ.

Once we finally got out of AP, we never bothered to tell him. I figured for all he was interested, to blazes with him. For all he knows I am still stuck waiting on interview tongue.gif

So once we came to file for the AOS I was adamant that I do it myself. I thought I at least would have the right info, which is more than I can say for the lawyer.
And when we got transferred, which is meant to be so much faster, and again a delay, I was awake nights thinking...I should have got that vaccination paperwork transcribed...did I sign that bit of paper, are they going to be happy with the support docs....

I was SO relieved once we got the email that said we were approved.

And I came right here to say so yes.gif

Oh I'd love to ring them, but until we have been 180 days since transfer they won't do anything. One of the other leftover folks tried that and that was the answer.

We are are 120.

Will be January before I can harass them. By then I will be in the mood for it wacko.gif

I was so glad you warned be about the interview at the window Kiwiana. Seemed very odd to me, but knowing it in advance was better than just bowling up there and finding that out!

OMG so packet 3 was waiting for me as I got home from work tonight! biggrin.gif

I'm reading over it and it sounds fairly straightforward, just the medical that sounds confusing! I'm sure I'll be alright, I might go to the one in CityMed (near my work) as I've been there before and I'm pretty sure they have lab/x-ray facilities there too. geez I'm going to feel like I've had a warrant of fitness after all that poking and prodding! blink.gif

How soon after you send back the forms do they schedule you an interview? Also, what sort of amount of funds are they looking for me to have? I've barely started saving up! and I don't necessarily have any recent photos of us together... just some from when I was there in July and even then I think we're only together in one or two.

It's actually kind of a relief to hear the interview is conducted so casually, I have this scary image of a small and dingy interrogation room with a bright light LOL. If they take your bag from you though does that leave you with nothing to entertain yourself (not even a book?) while you wait for the second part of the interview...?

think that's all the questions for now! thanks for all the advice, I'd be lost without you guys star_smile.gif

I am trying to remember why we didn't go to City Med, it had something to do with it being more expensive or something? Anyone else remember?

Yay on getting packet three!!! It won't take long at all to get the interview date, once they have the parts of packet three back. Fill in and send back the Police clearance thing for them, that is probably the one thing that might take a week to ten days.

If your fiancee can meet the requirements for support don't worry too much about your own funds. They just want to make certain you will not be a public charge. My SO was retired, and we had planned on his daughter being the sponsor, but I had enough fund on my own, having just sold my car smile.gif

I think your pictures sound fine, it's hard to get pictures together when you aren't even in the same country smile.gif Take the ones you have, and copies of the ones you used to file for the K1.

LOL on the bright light interrogation...no nothing so harsh as all that. The lady that interviewed me was a young American lady, and very nice. She went through the file and asked the odd question here and there. As Kiwiana said, it seems a strange way to conduct an interview!

No bag, no cellphone...but really there isn't that long between the two. The first person takes the parts she wants, and tells you to take a seat, and I went up to the next window in not time.

Any questions just ask smile.gif Any of us will be glad to help good.gif
