Can someone tell me to which address my fiancee is supposed to send her Packet 3 return packet (checklist, Police Certificate form, 2 passport photos, passport photocopy, DS-230, DS-156, DS-156K)

I have the following addresses, with no indication of which one to use:

Consulate General of the United States of America
Private Bag 92022,
Auckland 1142
New Zealand

OR

U.S. Consulate General
Level 3 Citibank Building
23 Customs St East
Auckland
New Zealand
92022

ALSO, to make things still more confusing... the letters my Fiancee got from the consulate list the building as the
CitiGROUP Building... and everything else I have ever seen lists the building as the CitiBANK Building... does anyone know which one it really is??? blink.gif

Thx for any help!

i was in the same dilemma before i mailed back my packet 3. I had written the p.o box address on the front of a large white envelope and then sealed it.. Took it into post office and said i wanted it to go in a courier bag (track and trace). After i wrote the address on the courier bag, the lady at post office looked at it and said.. oh the courier only delivers to 'actual' addresses. I said, well i don't have the other address on me.. so anyway, i sent it off with the p.o. box addy on it and the embassy signed for it, so the courier delivered it ok.

The different addresses they list do make it very confusing but I don't think it really matters what address it is sent to. The consulate is on the third floor of the citibank building (i think its BANK?) ( i hadn't noticed that they call it citigroup aswell, now that IS confusing) But i would like to think that anyone in the postal service would know where the American Consulate in Auckland city was. smile.gif

haha, yeah, one would certainly hope they would know what you meant.
Okay, I guess I will use the same one you used. Thx loads for the help =)

Well it's the 3 forms you have to take with you to the medical, if that helps.

sorry no, doesn't help at all, i need to be looking at the papers, i'm a bit of an airhead that way, sorry sad.gif

It's no problem. He figured it out, well that one anyways lol.

But if anyone can answer these, it'd be wonderful. Sorry so many, he wants me to ask and all the forms are so confusing for us. =(

- With the form DS-156(K): Do I need to send in Evidence of financial support as well, and what qualifies as evidence or is it another form to fill out and attach?

- With the form DS-156 Question 26. "How long do you intend to stay in the US?" What should I put here if I intend to marry and adjust status to live there permanently?

-With the form DS-156 Question 32. "Do you intend to work in the US?" What should I put here if I intend to work after I'm adjusted and legally allowed to work?

- I'm asked to obtain a "Photo copy of all valid passports biographic data pages". Is this just the front page with my picture and details of the passport, or does this include any pages with stamps on it too?

- I'm also asked to obtain "Evidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support from your US citizen sponsor)". Is this really required, my fiance'e is in USA and I'm here in New Zealand, this would take some time to get?

- Once receiving the package in my own country it asks me to send forms back, do I need to wait for any confirmation from that, or can I go ahead and schedule medical exam and then do interview to obtain visa?

We got the packet 3 stuff. And out of the 3 forms you take to the doctor, does it have to be the parent's medical information? Or is that something totally different?

sorry i'm at work and don't have packet 3 with me, can let you know that i just rang dr stone's surgery for an appointment and they could give me one this week but i chose next monday as i still have to go see my doctor for my hep b shot

i must admit i'm getting rather excited, getting closer and closer to my honey

Did anyone here use the Wellington Terrace Medical Clinic for the K1 pre-interview exam? How quickly were they able to get you in for an appointment?

My husband used Dr David L Hingston from the Immigration Medical Assessment place on Terrace St. We were in within days but he took forever to process the information. We were on his case constantly and only realized later that he only works on Tuesday! So if you go way before your interview you will be fine but we went to him three weeks before ours and the medical info showed up at the embassy 20 minutes after our interview....and only did so because we called every Tuesday between the medical and the interview. If you can go elsewhere I would suggest it. Plus he didn't give shots there so Nic had to go to his doctor in Palmerston North to administer the only vaccination he needed and in the long run he wouldn't have needed the shot but the guy wouldn't take the records he brought in as prrof.

So long story short he does do what needs to be done but it sounds like much more hassel than the gentleman in Auckland. We called and had an appointment the following Tuesday which was about a week away. With this gentleman leave at least 4 weeks for the info to make it to the embassy and make sure he is not going out of town anytime soon! Wish I had better news. I just don't want you to read everyones reviews from Auckland and expect the same.

cdneh--Ahah! Yet another thing I've missed putting on my list of things to do! Thank you for posting that! Good thing they are willing to send it via email... tongue.gif

kiwiana-- Yes, it breeds! And unpacks itself...

For the last 3 weeks people have been asking me "Are you done packing and ready to move yet?" and I'm like "NO! It's a whole lot harder than it sounds! We aren't just moving across town, we are moving across the WORLD!" laughing.gif

Storing things here is going to cost far too much, so what we can replace we're donating or giving away, and what we can't replace is going in those boxes. I don't care if I have to ship 10 at $200 a piece, that's still WAY cheaper than using a moving company or paying rental fees on a tiny storage unit for the next 6-10 years!

Kelvan
--If you can arrange to do so, I would highly advise it, and I haven't even done the traveling yet! But I know from moving every 3 years while growing up that no place is ever what you think it's going to be and I want to know the good and bad in the areas, if possible. A few days isn't long enough to absorb anything worthwhile IMO, which is why we opted for 2 weeks (since that's easier than multiple short visits). It'll cost a bit as far as staying in a hotel goes (although I'm going to try and stay in places that offer air points for rooms, might as well get something out of it) and a rental car since I don't have one waiting for me back home and we don't want to buy until we know what state we're moving to. But it's still better than committing to moving to a place only to decide 3 months later that we can't stand to live in the area another day!

I'll update my signature with a link to my blog when I can remember to...and I'll post on the blog as we're traveling around, so you can see pictures from the Bay Area and my reviews of things around there. We'll be staying in Mountain View I think, which is in between San Francisco and San Jose, but we'll be checking out the surrounding area on the weekend (armed with a map!).

Hey all!!

Wow, everyone sure has been busy! I may not get the chance to post much, but I try to catch up on reading this thread about once a week. I've been keeping you all in my thoughts as you've waited out the paperwork process, and done happy dances as the approvals have come in!! kicking.gif Plus more than a bit of grumbling at the universe on behalf of cdneh ;-)

We've got less than 3 weeks left in NZ! I'm not as excited about it as I thought I would be, but that's probably mostly me dreading getting everything done, and the flight to the US. tongue.gif The movers come and we hand over the keys to our flat on Feb. 5th...and I haven't gotten the cleaners scheduled yet, nor is the packing done. whistling.gif I swear every time I thin out our possessions they breed while we sleep.

Feb. 12 we fly out of Auckland, our POE is San Francisco. After much debating back and forth we decided that choosing between North Carolina and California was too hard without actually visiting the areas, pricing apartments, and checking out the local scene. So, Chris' boss has been gracious enough to agree to the following plan:

2 weeks in the Bay area. Chris will work on-site there and get a feel for the work environment and in the evenings and weekends we'll drive around and try to picture ourselves living there!

2 weeks in Alabama to visit my family and friends in the area, and get all my belongings sorted out there, so they are ready to ship to wherever we settle.

2 weeks in North Carolina to check out the Raleigh/Durham area, price housing, and figure out if living there is worth having Chris continue to do contracting work remotely for the company instead of moving to Cali and working at the office....plus we'll go up to Virginia for a weekend to visit my grandmother and aunt.

During all our travels Chris will continue to work remotely so there will be no loss of productivity for the company, as well as get as many hours in while we're moving as is possible. By the first of April we'll know where we're going to live for the next few years! blink.gif A little unconventional, yes, but at least we won't be committing to a place sight unseen, and we'll get in a good portion of our visiting before settling down for a bit! We all know how much smaller the vacation time is in the US. sad.gif

I checked NZ Post site for their biggest "Weigh-To-Go" box (510 x 405 x 280mm). At a final weight of 20 kg it'll cost $233 to send it International Economy (which takes a few weeks). 10 kg is $138.50 So we bought some and those boxes are bigger than I thought they were! They'll definitely get our documents, some books, clothes, and keepsake stuff there (with a good taping). I think 2-3 would sort out anything you'd need to ship. I'll be mailing off some boxes to the US later on this week! If you're gonna ship big boxes to the US make sure to get the big red customs label, not the little green one.

Yes, most likely a different Consulate.

You can contact the Embassy via email and ask them what they will require of you. They are extremely helpful and will tell you what you need.

Michelle's SO is also on disability so she may be able to offer some insight. My thougths are that you will just need a co-sponsor. Hopefully you will be ok and be working by the time AOS comes. good.gif

KimandRussFemaleNew Zealand2009-02-02 17:50:00

Yes, Lisa, you need to send an I-134 affidavit of support. This is not a legally binding agreement and NZ is more lax with the document than many other Embassies are but it still required. It's just there to help prove that your fiance will not become a public charge to the US once he's here.

I-864 is the affidavit of support filled out for AOS, after you are married. This is a legally binding document. You are still the primary sponsor but whomever you use as a co-sponsor is bound by this document and must offer support if your fiance/husband should become a public charge once in the U.S.

This might help.

The DOS is like the mother ship for all foreign affairs. wink.gif

Yeah, cdneh... about dang time! wink.gif

How'd it go at the medical today? smile.gif

i was nervous as heck, i'd just about convinced myself that they wouldn't let me in cos i'm too fat but the doctor said that wouldn't happen.

he was amazing, made me feel very comfortable, was a good laugh in fact, i read and reread your post on your visit to the doctor and it all went really smoothly smile.gif

i found the doctor, the xray place and the place to have the blood tests.

i think you were very game walking that road, i drove smile.gif

and google maps with street view made finding everything so much easier

now i'm just hanging out for tuesday and my interview

My SO has a student loan to pay off but he's doing it before he leaves to come over here because he's afraid that they will arrest him if he tries coming back or something idk. Not sure how all that works over there =)

I had a question about the I-134.. what did you all use as the evidence of income part, where it asks for a 'statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institutions where you have deposits, identifying the following details regarding your account:

1. Date account opened

2. Total amount deposited for the past year, and

3. Present balance."

I got a letter from my bank stating the average monthly balance (was best they could do apparently =/). But my sponsor is having trouble coming up with statements from every month and such. She had to purchase copies of her statements because her bank only goes back 6 months. >.< Glad I'm with my bank for once lol.

Also, for the interview, they said he should bring proof of funds and ability to support himself in the US and a resume. I get the resume part but what are good things of the other to bring? Bank statements, pay stubs, list of college classes taken?

Thanks so much for all the help through this, you all have been wonderful. I know I'd be lost and stressed more than I am now without your help. Nice to see so many of you progressing through this! And good luck to those still in the process. Hope you get yours soon.

Well..my SO is retired, so I did take his 401K stuff..and we had heaps from the co-sponser (his daughter) which they never wanted to see.

I took a print out of my bank account details, and I got a letter from work that shows they owe me for 412 holiday hours and 42 hours in lieu. She was happy with mine on it's own.
They didn't want my resume either heh...I had a lot of evidence I took along I didn't need.

I have put it away in my back pack (that i usually take on the plane with me). That way i know it won't get misplaced. star_smile.gif

i wondered if you may be able to tell me what medical insurance you will use, when the time comes to get it please?. As all the plans i have looked at for new immigrants are like $600US for 6 months. Not sure if that is reasonable price to pay.

I went and changed up some money yesterday into US dollars. It was like 49cents US for every NZ dollar!! just shocking! last year it was almost 80cents. It's almost criminal to see how less one gets now for the dollar.

Sheesh I know! I only tried the tacking number on a lark...they move light lightening!

OMG yes..you would need a chainsaw to get into it..not that I am even tempted biggrin.gif

I am not looking forward to the money exchange ..I might leave it in the bank and draw on it using my EFTPOS card as the rate improves...if it ever does...

Thank you. I have sent off and Email. I am so stressed right now... not only worried that perhaps they are going to attach those forms to someone else case, but also that they may not even receive the forms. unsure.gif

I can identify with the stress for sure. That's what is so great about this place...there is usually someone around who can help out, and knows just what it's like good.gif

Has anyone successfully called the consulate from the US? I have been trying for the last hour and only getting the keypad selection runaround and then disconnects. I really need to ask them about the 2 Case #'s. Also, I dont believe Genna marked the package she sent for Dept., as there were no instructions to do so on the mailing address. mad.gif

This part is soooo frustrating... I thought it would be sooooo easy after the 3 month California processing wait.

We've never called them from either end...but they do get back to email requests for info quite quickly..like in a couple of hours sometimes.

Hehe didn't think I'd be the only one. We were saying they should add a page of what needs to be done in better writing or just a page that goes 1. do this, 2. then this, which they kind of do already but it's confusing. And some of the questions are just worded strangely, even for me, an ex-english major lol. But maybe I had difficulty cuz of the ex-major part lol. I tried looking for examples on google but no luck =(

Hey no worries! I had the same conversation with my fiance about how they should make it clearer what to do exactly. Would have saved me a lot of time and stressing out, but oh well! Glad we have a place like this to come to and ask questions smile.gif

When you have your medical, make sure to take your case number, it starts with an ACK...

Hey guys a question... it says to bring 'evidence of a fiance relationship' to the interview. I thought they had received the first package we sent over in the US with all my evidence. Do I have to redo it all again? Also, what other forms do you recommend (besides plane tickets, itineraries, photos)?

Yes, they have the entire package you sent, the lady that did my interview went over it page by page at the window.

I took the originals of things I'd sent them..the plane tickets, boarding passes, I had some hotel receipts and the like. She didn't ask for them.

I took them some photos that we had taken over the last year from the webcam, since we had filed, and she had a look through those. Never asked for anything else, I think what they are getting at is an ungoing relationship. I had emails, chats printed out from AIM, some cards he's sent...that sort of thing, but she didn't seem to want them.

Speaking of Case #'s and Medicals... The NVC gave us a Case # on their letter to me... and then the Consulate gave Genna a DIFFERENT case #,hand written on the top of that checklist form in Packet 3. Which one do we put on the Medical paperwork???

Tha'ts odd..there should only be the one. I didn't have a second. I'd shoot them an email and ask.

That bit of paper is a list...it says send in these bits at once under part 1, and under part 2 it says sign and send when you have the things ready to interview.
I still have mine, never did send it in, as I did it on email.

Yes, most likely a different Consulate.

You can contact the Embassy via email and ask them what they will require of you. They are extremely helpful and will tell you what you need.

Michelle's SO is also on disability so she may be able to offer some insight. My thougths are that you will just need a co-sponsor. Hopefully you will be ok and be working by the time AOS comes. good.gif

Thanks!

One more question, sorry if I am a pest. . .

On question 7 on the I-134, it says, I am employed as or engaged in the business of ___. . .

Thing is, social security disability isn't a job so do I say none, or none see attached sheet and say where I derive my income from?

i don't recall what Rob put on his form, again i'm at work, usually look at the forums when i'm at work, one of the few sites they let us into.

i'll try and remember to look tonight or tomorrow and let you know.

In regards to Rob's income, he's just given me what he gets from disability, a letter from them saying what he gets now, and what he got last year, he won't be working any time soon as his doctor thinks he needs a lung transplant, and if he eventually does go back to work it would only be part time, we have his parents as joint sponsors as we will be living with them for a while and we have his friend who will be a co-sponsor if needed and we'll have the money from the sale of my house here, i think we now have sufficient financial support/assets that it shouldn't be a problem, at least that's what i'm telling myself, doesn't mean i'm not going to be nervous about it all when it comes to my interview tho.

**

Now a question from me, does anyone recall how long after they sent packet 3 back they got the letter with the interview date on it? i'm still anxiously waiting.

Have you sent back the letter to sign, that says you have everything in part 2?

Well it's the 3 forms you have to take with you to the medical, if that helps.

sorry no, doesn't help at all, i need to be looking at the papers, i'm a bit of an airhead that way, sorry sad.gif

It's no problem. He figured it out, well that one anyways lol.

But if anyone can answer these, it'd be wonderful. Sorry so many, he wants me to ask and all the forms are so confusing for us. =(

- With the form DS-156(K): Do I need to send in Evidence of financial support as well, and what qualifies as evidence or is it another form to fill out and attach?
I too was very confused at this! It tells you to attach everything, but you just send the form in on its own and take the attachments to the interview smile.gif

- With the form DS-156 Question 26. "How long do you intend to stay in the US?" What should I put here if I intend to marry and adjust status to live there permanently?
I put 'Indefinitely'

-With the form DS-156 Question 32. "Do you intend to work in the US?" What should I put here if I intend to work after I'm adjusted and legally allowed to work?
"I will apply for a job once I am legally allowed to"

- I'm asked to obtain a "Photo copy of all valid passports biographic data pages". Is this just the front page with my picture and details of the passport, or does this include any pages with stamps on it too?
I think it just means the pages with your picture/details. But I sent my stamps pages too just in case

- I'm also asked to obtain "Evidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support from your US citizen sponsor)". Is this really required, my fiance'e is in USA and I'm here in New Zealand, this would take some time to get?
Yes, ask him to send it to you and then take it to the interview.

- Once receiving the package in my own country it asks me to send forms back, do I need to wait for any confirmation from that, or can I go ahead and schedule medical exam and then do interview to obtain visa?
Send ALL initial forms back (the ones listed in the first section of the instructions). I think you're supposed to have your medical first, but I had mine after I sent those forms back and I don't think it makes a difference. The doctor will forward all your medical reports to the embassy so you don't need to worry about it smile.gif And also, the police report (assuming you filled in the application and sent it back) gets forwarded to them too so don't worry about that!

You had the exact same questions I had a week ago! smile.gif

cdneh: Congratulations on your visa approved!!! I' so happy for you, how exciting! Do they keep the evidence that you bring to the interview? (photos etc)

No..anything she looked she passed me right back.

kicking.gif kicking.gif woo hoo!!! I'm soo happy for you!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif Did you have to wait long for the younger woman to interview you? It definitely sounds like they were the same two women that I saw. They are both lovely!!
The security part is weird, as you certainly don't expect it once the lift doors open! was there many other people in there waiting to be seen?

I know how you felt once you left the building!! I walked to the queens arcade and just sat down trying to take in all what had happened! It all seemed so surreal.

That's wonderful that you have given notice at work!! will you give your self a week or two before you leave to tie up any loose ends or will you work right up?

Around the 16th Feb, air new zealand and qantas usually have their 'one world' on sale (every year), so am hoping they will do the same this year.

ooooh this is soo exciting!!! After all this waiting, it is finally over!! yes.gif
congratulations!! good.gif

footnote: The bathroom at the Queens Arcade is a godsend!! star_smile.gif

I think I only waited about twenty minutes...hard to tell without a watch. I'd say wear one smile.gif

There were a few waiting...and when she called me it was over where everyone else was sitting..so I hope they enjoyed the story wink.gif Seems strange to me they do it the way they do.

We are looking at flights around the end of this month, once my two weeks is up at work I'd like a couple of weeks to tie up the loose ends....and then I am gone kicking.gif
