Gave me a chuckle reading your quote, sachinky (ok what is your other name; sachin is for Sachin Tendulkar I know and I feel uneasy every time I call you sachin tongue.gif)

My husband was the same, he just couldn't grasp the whole process, I was so bummed when we got the NOA-2, I was shouting my lungs out and he was like-- "so what just happened??" headbonk.gif

Is it weird that I did my monkey dance and I was more excited when I got the news of NOA-2 rather than the actual interview approval. I remember when the CO said I am being approved I was like -- ok, whatever, let me just get the hell out of this consulate for now .

I'm the non-USC wife in the picture. Hubby is still trying to understand the process. I lost him while trying to explain the NVC stage.

No big plans, on NYE will go to a German restaurant "Gerst Haus" which is only a couple of blocks away from our apartment, will get drunk, listen to other folks sing and all.

And on NYD, will try to cook something nice. I don't want to bake pumpkin pie, just want to buy it from the store but Joe insist he wishes for home made, will see what I will do depending upon how good he behaves these next days tongue.gif

So the 4 day weekend is over and all I did was a lot of online shopping, slept through out, worked out a little bit and youtubing. I didn't have to cook this weekend because on Wednesday Joe's boss did an awesome bbq and we munched on the left over for 4 days.

Sachinky, I love biryani but I can't stand biryani's from Calcutta because of their generous use of kevda water.

congratulations sara.

My day has been alright so far, we are trying to buy one of the cheap foreclosed homes. out here you can buy a decent home for $20k or there are some which go for $5k. we did put an offer to one home for $13k, but now me and hubby are having second thoughts about that home, it needs a lot of repair, roof, insulation, electric lines. We are going to go with an inspector this evening to see how much the estimated cost would be. Joe has his heart set on this property because of its location and how big it is (2800 sq feet) plus its in a nice neighborhood. I just hope estimated repair cost would be bearable enough, don't want to get into a money pit unsure.gif .

Shukriya everyone for the sweet words about Egypt! smile.gif

Sachinky, you guys have great wedding pics!!

I had a long day of work today and have a long day of work ahead of me tomorrow, no weekend for me this week since I had days off for my interview last Sunday... I can't wait for the next weekend!

I've been listening to Latika's theme of Slumdog Millionaire last night... It's so beautiful!!! Anyone has an idea who composed it? What the name Latika means?

I think A.R Rehman composed it along with all the other songs of the movie. Latika means a plant or a vine to be specific.

Had a busy but good day so far. A friend came by and gave me a batch of Christmas cookies. Tomorrow is Joe's birthday, he kept repeating that he doesn't want anything for his birthday, but well me being the good wife and all tongue.gif I went ahead and got an ipod for him, he might freak out, but I don't care tongue.gif.

Also got some nice wine, hope to have a wonderful day tomorrow.

I incorporate both Indian and American cooking. My white husband loves his meat and potato, one should see his face if I give him just vegetarian food for one day, he will have his puppy eyes ready asking-- what no meat?

He loves Indian food but he won't be able to eat it every day. These days I am trying to cook a lot of Mediterranean food. I do hate that I make 2 sets of meal everyday. Joe and me just don't eat the same thing, I don't enjoy red meat except lamb, and he hates lamb and loves other red meat; he won't eat fish, I love fish. He isn't a big fan of rotis or parathas. He loves masala dosa though, and I incorporate Indian veggies in his meals. He is a big fan of sweets; kalakand, soan papdi(store bought), kheer........those are usually gone within hours of making.

About Hindi, he loves all the Lata Mangeshkar songs and he knows a couple of words here and there. It's funny now he knows a lot of Sanskrit mantras/shlokas by heart but won't learn Hindi. I think I should push him more into learning Hindi tongue.gif

Hey Moksha, answered your question about money transferring.

Hubby got his old job back here in CA, as a gas station clerk. He's researching now how to take classes here to get an equivalent to his accounting degree from India. I'll enjoy a nice, relaxing three days off now!

Get well soon! (F) It has been going around... all you can do is rest and wait it out. I just got over a bad cold too. When sick, sometimes I will put a little tumeric in milk with sugar. Or, boil some tulasi, pepper corns and honey tea. For cough, we would chew whole pepper corns wrapped in tulasi leaves. Best is just the traditional plenty of liquids and rest. I find closing my eyes and thinking of something happy or saying mantra reduces stress. :) I try to convince myself that if I can't do anything (like when I'm sick at home and work is waiting in the office), no help in worrying about it. I know, easier said than done! :bonk:

have you guys thought about moving to another state?

Yah CA is really hard now. However, I have a good govt job (local govt) and I am eligible to get pension for life (early retirement) after 7 more years of work, so we are thinking of returning to India then, it will be enough to live there forever! So I definitely don't want to give up the guaranteed income.

My husband got laid off from his job in October, the only work he could get was in Tampa, Florida - 3,000 miles away from me! :( He's been there since November. However, the business there just got sold to another owner (who is letting all the current employees go) so he's returning on Tuesday back to California. We are so happy we will be together again but he will be jobless so... hard. Hope he finds work soon. :help:

Who isn't fascinated with Egypt? I remember getting a King Tut book for a birthday when I was little, showing all the golden items in his tomb. I was SO enthralled!

Congrats Sachinky
My day started with a trip to the pediatric urologist for Adi's checkup. He was diagnosed with grade 1 reflux at 2 months, which can give him UTIs. Thankfully all organs and kidneys are normal so its just a matter of time till he outgrows the condition. Poor baby will go for a VCUG (catheter up his weewee) in march to see if he has or not. For now the Dr was happy that he has not had any infection again after the 1 time last year which means good news.

Moi is very happy today, looks like my lil bro's job is sending him to amreeka; he just finished his 2nd Mate officer training and got a job offer from a shipping company in India (they are going to sponsor his work visa for US), so hopefully once his training period is over he will be coming to amreeka, I can meet up with him more often this way :luv:

Great news!! :)

We say Amreeka too for America in Arabic! LOL I call John my Amreeky sometimes :P
