Asia: Southwrong info/address on ID

for those in households ruled by parents, especially stubborn and uneducated parents {sigh} how do you deal with them when they insist on crazy things such as this (I'm pulling my freaking hair out because it seems at every step they are sabotaging, sometimes purposely).

my husband went to get his new id, becasue the old one had an address at which he had never lived; he has lived at the home he is at now all his life, it is even on his birth certificate. when he came of age his father got his ID with this other address because it is "more prestigious" so i demanded he get a new correct ID. he got a new ID, and now both addresses appear

i threw a fit but he is apologetic and trying to explain to me 'sorry but father was screaming in the place and he was just trying to keep his father calm and make peace.... :(

here is the really big issue.... not only is this area NOT the "prestigious" area from his father's childhood any longer, it is a notorious drug dealer area NOW.
this will be a mess during background check becasue of course i only listed the ONE address he has ever lived, the family home, so it will look like he is hiding this address. the grandfather's generation (and previous) lived in that area, had homes and businesses, but has been gone since his grandfather's death and all the properties split, and his father got the property he has now.

is this mess even going to be fixable (and how to fix?) or going to completely make him inelible to enter usa?

please just answer question i've asked... i'm in no mood today for normal VJ BS

Parents are rough, I'm sorry that you have to deal with this, since the process is already stressful enough. I imagine it might be an issue, unless they still have residence/work in the address...Your husband might want to get a new ID with the correct address, and not tell his father...

Hope it all works out

Asia: SouthCR-1 interview HELP ( I - 130, immigration interview)

Hi,

We seriously need some help regarding immigration interview for CR-1 catagory. Here is the little back group, I will try to make it to the point.

My wife and I got married in June. Wedding in June was just with close family members. Only about 10-15 people. We got the marriage certificate (with June wedding date) and filed I-130. We DON'T have much pictures to show for this wedding and invitation card and marriage certificate shows that wedding was at my HOME. And invitation card also shows that wedding was in the "afternoon".

We did our grand wedding in January with about 500 people (friends/family) and we have awesome wedding album to prove that. Invitation card for this wedding says that wedding was "at night at party plot" and ofcourse pics shows everything.

Here are the possible interview questions we are not sure what to answer:
Any suggestions are welcome.

We have to tell them that we got married in JUNE. And since we don't have picture for JUNE wedding, we will show them November wedding.

1) Should we go ahead and tell them that we had two weddings?
2) Should we not tell them, unless we are asked specifically about that?
3) Do we have to give them wedding invitation card? If yes, only from JUNE wedding, or both JUNE and JANUARY wedding?

Please HELP.

well i can't see how it would hurt to point out that you
love this person so much that you took your vows twice.
i would go ahead and bring everything with me, invitations from
both ceremony, and show it to them and explain why we had 2 ceremonies.

Asia: SouthDisgusted with Pakistani Embassy / Nadra
Here is the background:

(1) I naturalized as a US citizen in May 2009,
(2) Applied for renunciation of my Pakistani citizenship in June 2009
(3) Received a letter confirming that I am no longer a citizen of Pakistan in August 2009.
(4) Received the renunciation certificate in June 2010.
(5) At the time I applied for the renunciation and the time it was approved there was no fee to cancel the national identity card. The renunciation fee was simply $30.

But now the embassy/NADRA has the guts to send me a letter demanding $100 to cancel my national identity card. When I contacted the embassy, they were rude as heck and said it is a fee enforced by NADRA(the card issuing authority) and they did not inform us previously nor we know when the fee went into effect, hence everyone who renounce their citizenship are now getting this letters. The lady on the phone was so aggressive and unwilling to even acknowledge they could have communicated this in a better way.

(1) I am now even more proud of the fact that I renounced my Pakistani citizenship because certainly the different govt departments does not care about the people not even the ambassadors office staff who are suppose to be helpful aid not rude a****

(2) Does anyone know what are the consequences of not paying this fee? The letter only mentioned: inability to get a Pakistan origin card which allows visa free travel.

What to do with the X-Ray they give along with the Vaccination records at your medical exam. It wasnt asked at the consulate at the interview. Will it be required to be carried along with me while i go to US? Will it be asked at POE? My POE will be Dulles.

Please share your experience if you have gone thru the process. :)

Asia: SouthHAPPY DIWALI TO ALL INDIANS

HAPPY DIWALI to Everyone!

"May you all attain full inner illumination! May the supreme light of lights enlighten your understanding! May you all attain the inexhaustible spiritual wealth of the Self! May you all prosper gloriously on the material as well as spiritual planes!"

For all those not very familiar with this festival, it is called the Festival of Lights in the Hindu religion, which celebrates the fight and win of good over evil (The old book of Ramayana depicts how Rama defeated the evil King Ravana twenty days before this, and returned home to his capital after 14 years on this day when the whole city celebrated his return).

Hindus and all Indians in general celebrate it by lighting up their homes with candles and lights, burst a lot of firecrackers, buy new clothes and exchange gifts and sweets with friends and family.

Practically speaking, it is now also known as the start of the financial year in the Hindu calendar where traditionally, all merchants used to tally up their books and square off all credits/debts. Another tradition is to do a sort of spring cleaning (wrong season, i know) of the home and start everything afresh, leaving all old grudges of the year aside, personal or professional.

Wish you all a good day and a great year going forward, with all our petitions coming to fruition and are able to be with our loved ones.

"Let this DIWALI burn all your bad times and enter you in good times!"

Thanks
Er Neal

In priceline.com ,i think there is no gurantee for your preferable time for flight.Means you have to just provide them the date and they will give you flight on any time.It can be early morning or may be late night. If you are ready to fly at any time then go with priceline.com ,you will get very good deal.

Unfortunately the new rules do say that as children of a person of Indian origin, they have to get entry visas (not tourist visas). As the minor children on an OCI card holder they are also eligible to become OCI card holders themselves. Their father could apply at the Home Ministry for their OCI cards or PIO cards after reaching India. It doesn't matter what visa they go on.

My fiance had his interview and got a 221g on a white piece of paper requesting more evidence of relationship. I guess they didn't like the fact we met in December and got engaged in January. We didn't have the formal engagement at the time of filing petition; however, we had an engagement party before the interview. The CO didn't bother to look at our engagement album but issued a 221g. I guess they were right at asking for more proof so we are planning to submit engagement pics, more pics with his family, palace receipt and requested notarized letters from us and his parents.

Now I am just afraid that we will be put in AP and it will be the end. I been reading so many scary stories. =( Any help?

I have flied both PIA and Emirates to Karachi.

PIA sucked!! There was this really bad smell on all my flights, the air hostesses are quite rude, the seats are tight, there is barely any space between seats. Only good thing is that it's a direct flight but everything including the customer service sucked.

Emirates is much better in comparison. The food is better, the air hostesses are nicer, it's much more comfortable, there is lots of in flight entertainment and the seats are more comfortable than the PIA one. Only downside is, it stops in Dubai for two to three hours but those two to three hours go really fast as there is a lot to at the Abu Dhabi airport.

I am flying to Karachi in December and this time taking Etihad as the flight was cheaper than Emirates at Orbitz.com American sites usually don't offer tickets for PIA so you need to buy directly from their site or a travel agent if you want to fly PIA.

If a parent is of Indian origin, then the spouse and kids are supposed to get Entry visa and not tourist visa anymore according to the rule from June. Technically, I don't understand why they started this new rule. May be they want spouse/children to get PIO or OCI cards. I don't know whether you can get OCI from tourist visa. For more information about OCI check out http://indiacgny.org...id=100&sub=sub6

In India the time line for both is the same approx 6 months. I'm not sure how it is different for Pakistan. I suspect it might be the same.

If you have proof of having met the person, boarding passes of you travel essentially, you can already file K1, so the clock can start ticking immediately. If you go back in Jan to get married and then file, the clock shall start ticking from Jan onwards. I'm also told that fiance visa is a lil' more expensive than spouse visa. Read up the guides well and check out the forms to get a better idea.

Its also a long journey so have plenty of patience.

Good Luck.

Hello. Thanks for replying. If I take PIA is that a decent flight? Also, is there much turbulence? I heard PIA has really bad turbulence in comparison with other airlines. Also, is it cheaper to book directly through PIA via their website or to get the ticket from Karachi aiport via my fiance?

Have you ever taken Etihad?

well I havenot travlled in Eithad but its been recently rated as five star airline ,i have heard its better than emirates but i dont know which one will be cheaper ,also dont know much about buying pIA ticket online .all I know is some time agents are cheaper for Pakistan as they ready to leave some of thier commision

Thank you all for the encouragement over these months. Even though I didn't post much I was a constant everyday reader in the forum.
The interview was very thorough. They asked questions regarding relationship, finance, and eligibility for visa.
My fiancée took tons of evidence and proof of my 3 trips to India and I made sure I went on Valentines day too (that was a bonus). So our relationship part was a piece of cake to convince :)
Then they asked questions about my brothers, my parents and every single detail from what they do and where they reside and how did they choose the City to live etc. My fiancée did a fine job explaining everything and she said "do not know" for the the things she really didn't know. They were happy about it. So fellow petitioners, please let your beneficiaries communicate with every person in your family or at least make sure they are familiar with your family. Then they asked questions about my relationship with her family and she had lot of good pictures and everything to prove we are cool.
Then the financial part was easy cos we had 3 years of every financial document possible. They were keen on W2 and 1040 for 2 years.
Finally they had questions regarding the engagement pictures to make sure it is not a wedding. My fiancée took her time to explain how I proposed and then how we arranged for a formal event and how all the Christian formal engagement process works in India. They confirmed it with a guy working inside the embassy and when they were convinced that it is an engagement, The counsel said, "Congrats you are approved"
Now I am waiting for the POE, booked on British airways and they are going on strike now. Keeping fingers crossed.
