Asia: SouthAfter interview How much time is required to clear AP
You have a spouse coming from pakistan and right now it seems there are more women getting AP along with most men. There are times there is no AP involved but it's not often but a blessing if it happens.

All you can do if you get AP is pray and wait and inquire with DOS weekly and the embassy on a monthly basis...

prepare yourself well but it all comes down to the CO and anything else they ask for or need and of course if they feel a more in depth background check is necessary..

The information posted by evelyn1140 is wonderful info and shares a huge amount of information for you and your questions about AP and MENA countries.

We did have our nikah registered with NADRA you don't have to but i would recommend it

THey will need a translation but you can do it here in the states im sure...

Just be sure to get copies of the originals and have them notarized in case anything happens to originals and do not send originals to USCIS you will need them for NVC

I also agree with Hope15..if you go into the k1 interview and they already know your married (and obviously they do)... and you lie saying you aren't married you risk being not only denied the k1 but the beneficiary can be banned for life for misrepresentation as well as the petitioner in trouble too.

Basically your only option will be to just tell them the truth... you are withdrawing the k1 to pursue the CR1 spousal visa instead since you went back after filing the k1 and prior to the interview and performed the Nikah with your now spouse

Expect the new i130 CR1 process to take at least 6-8 months at USCIS and then whatever time after for interview and issuance of visa.

If ANY attorney tells you that you can pursue the k1 visa at this time then you need a much better attorney!!!

He can't apply ir1 unless the Nikah is over two yrs and the k3 usually gets administratively closed leaving only the cr1 as the only path for visa

The cr1 is for marriages less than two years and ir1 is for marriages over two years

Even if you do Nikah You still file CR1 Visa ... a religious ceremony is still a marriage ceremony and you ARE by all accounts married! So you shot yourself by marrying when the K1 visa was being petitioned.

Withdraw the K1 and start all over with CR1 petition

They will deny the k1... look at the ppl doing engagement ceremonies that look like nikah ceremonies to them that got denied ....

It won't be expedited unless you can prove there is something to expedite. Wanting her here sooner won't be a reason they would approve.

Asia: SouthAfter interview How much time is required to clear AP

Mostly how much time is required to clear the administrative process or security clearance after interview?

What are MENA countries?

What they ask for questions about security clearance or Administrative process and who?

Do they let us know that we cleared AP process or not?

Can some one ask about his AP cleared or not or how much time the need to clear it.

If some one is not getting any answer since a year after interview ,What should they do? any calling number or any email.

Thanks Alot.

"What is Administrative Processing? AP is also called Additional Administrative Processing and is when the applicant is being checked more closely. It can be for security checks which encompass fingerprints and/or name checks or for document verification.

• When does Administrative Processing Happen? AP can happen at any time during your processing. It can happen at a service center, at the NVC level, or at the embassy level. It mainly is discussed here in the forums at the embassy level.

• Who can get Administrative Processing and Why? AP usually affects men and women from certain countries but anyone can get AP. Persons coming from T countries (Terrorist Countries) seem to have more security checks and have to endure AP at the embassy level after their interview. Common names, your nationality, religion, education, relationship of applicant, travels and job can all be factors for AP. Having incomplete or missing documents will also cause a case to be put in AP. In some cases if the embassy does not believe in the validity of the relationship they can investigate it further with a field investigation.

• What are the T-Countries? Although it is classified, the list of countries reportedly affected by these restrictions includes, but is not limited to, Afghanistan,
Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt,
Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya,
Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia,
Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates,
and Yemen. http://www.abil.com/....0Wolfsdorf.pdf This list is complied from an attorney and the list of T-countries can change at any time.

• Can I check the status of my case? The embassy will not in many cases respond to emails until a certain amount of time has elapsed. The best bet is to contact Department of State aka: DOS and ask them for an update bi-weekly. They will not be able to give you details but they can tell you if the case is still pending in AP or cleared.

• DOS information: DOS can be contacted Monday through Friday during business hours. You must have all information concerning your case with you so that they can assist you.
Department of State’s visa Information phone number: 202-663-1225

• Can I expedite this process? The simple answer is NO. No one can expedite the checks since they are considered a matter of National security. An elected official can only make a congressional inquiry on your behalf. They cannot get the checks finished any faster.

• Does AP have any time frame for completion? NO AP can last anywhere from days, weeks, months and in a few cases years.

Anyone that happens to be given a 221(g) or Administrative Processing letter must be patient and let them do their work. Do not call constantly and ask about your case. Remember each time your case is moved it can then end up at the bottom of the stack and your time can be extended. Each case is different so you cannot judge your case by any other and each consulate/embassy may have a different average time for completion of AP.

Good luck and my best wishes for ya" . quote by hot guy

Any info other than visa type would help a lot. Just as an example, being a male and female old mean an earth full of difference. Men mostly go on automatic AP, however it's not that common for women.

However regardless of visa type, be consistent with your application information, show up with as much additional prep as possible, pictures, phone logs, chat records or even the smallest thin you may not fun important. Be Bold and if something is incorrect, say so instead of trying to act smart or dodge the bullet. We are human and can make mistake so accepting that will not trigger something. However there cannot be mistakes on cer basi stuff. Be positive but not aggressive. Be polite and courteous but not tacit or mute, be thankful but not submissive. And finally rest is upto the interviewer. There are just too many factors to make an assumption. I am not sure if you will fin them useful in any way and probably heard these many times already :-).

Good luck and best wishes. Bust prepare yourself a lot. Do mock interview in front of mirrors :-). Last one is a joke but may help some. Cask tough questions to yourself and try to answer them. Take it easy.

Thanks, Musashii, yes, this helps a lot. I have a few more questions, and you have been MOST helpful. I am planning to go to Pakistan from Germany approximately the second to third week in June. Would the visa start closer to the time of my anticipated visit? Because otherwise, it would run out before I even got there. It says on their website that DC serves TN, while NYC serves the northeast. Do you think if I just sent it to NY rather than DC, they would reject it? My friend's uncle does know someone inside that embassy and could carry it there personally, but not in the DC one. I don't know how they would feel about my sending it to a diffferent embassy than specified...if that would target our application as a problem. I am worried about them losing my passport or not returning it in time, which would ruin my visit to Germany if there was a delay. We are planning to meet in Germany around June 9, stay there about 10 days, then go on to Islamabad, Pakistan and stay there another 2ish weeks, about 30 days in all, like you said.

We are very blessed to be able to travel to meet each other, but as you know, that gets really expensive. Don't know if we will end up doing K-1 or CR-1, depending on if we decide we want to be an official couple. I brought another man here 4.5 years ago on K-1 visa, but ended up divorced (because of abuse) so don't know how this will impact the future of a K-1 or CR-1 with my friend from Pakistan.

Thanks for all your info and help!!! I appreciate it!!!

You may call NY consulate and check with them if they will do your visa. If your friend's uncle knows someone in NY consulate then it would be even better idea to ask him to check with that guy and see if they will do. In Pakistan or with Pakistani people, reference or pulling string works best (that was supposed to be a secret so don't tell) :P

Now, let's suppose you have got your visa affixed on your passport. It shall be valid for up to 6 months (from the time it was issued). So if you get your visa in April and you are planning to visit Pakistan in June, you should be good. Remember that 6 months validity is for visa to enter Pakistan, not to stay there for 6 months. Validity of stay should be 30 days or more if you are lucky so do not exceed your staying limit. Since you are already planing to go to Islamabad, you can apply for extension should you need to do so.
Good luck to you for your journey and umm, with your friend.

Hi--and a hello to Gee....I am also planning to travel to Pakistan (in June). I will meet my friend in Germany, then both of us will go to Pakistan to stay at his house. Since I live in TN, it looks like I will have to apply to the embassy in DC for a visa. Is it possible to apply to a different one or must I apply to the one in DC? (His family knows people that work at one in another city so they know he is an honest man.)I can't take off work to drive there, so I will have to mail the application there. What is the typical time to receive your visa from the DC embassy? If I am both a tourist and have a friend there, which visa is best to apply for? How long is this visa for? It looks like there are places to check off how long you want a visa for. Is it suspicious/red flagging if you put one for a year in case I want to go see him my next vacation...maybe in the fall?
Wow, it looks like you got your visitor visa super-fast!!! If we end up deciding to be a couple, what is the typical wait time for a CR-1 visa versus a K-1 in Pakistan? Thank God, he is able to travel to meet me in another country.
Although he says it's not dangerous there (in his area), were there any particular things to watch out for?
He is in the travel industry, which I am afraid might make it harder for us to get a visa for him to move here, along with a few other red flags we have. Anyway, I wish everybody luck and am encouraged that there are not too many horror stories of green card fraud in this forum compared to some others.
Keep the faith!!!! I appreciate any advice/ideas.

Pakistan's official Embassy is in DC but there are Pakistani Consulates in other states such as NY and maybe Texas. You can apply for a tourist / visit visa. It used to be valid for 90 days but after recent conflicts of interests back in Feb 2011, they only issue visa for 30 days unless you know someone inside ;) but even if you get a visa for 30 days, you can get it extended free of cost from U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
To apply for any visa, you will need your passport, 4 passport size photographs, a completed and signed passport application form and the applicable fee which is probably $120 I am not sure. Also you will need to submit invitation letter x 2. One from your friend to you stating that he is inviting you to visit Pakistan and other letter from him to whichever embassy or consulate you will apply for visa, requesting them to grant you visa and that he will make sure you do not overstay your visa period and will not become a public charge. You will need to submit a copy of his passport or national identity card as well.
CR1/IR1 visas in Pakistan usually take 6-7 months for approval of your I-130 petition. Then comes NVC process and approval, interview and all. Since Pakistani males are cursed to go through mandatory Administrative Process (most of the time) the whole procedure may take anywhere from 12 - 18 months before you can see your spouse again (unless you are rich enough to pay him some visits).
Nothing can be said about security. Apparently it is safer in Punjab province but we never know ...
Hope this helps.

  • As you have applied for visa, it may take them 7-10 business days to process your application.
  • Do call them and check the status after 5 business days.
  • Only purchase airline tickets after you have your visa in hand. You may use www.expedia.com or some other site for this purpose if you have facility to pay using credit / debit card.
  • Once you have confirmed the ticket and know when exactly you are travelling to Pakistan and which city, go to http://www.travel.state.gov/ and check their instructions for United States Citizens travelling to Pakistan. You may want to register with them in some smart traveler program but that is up to you.
  • Do leave a copy of your important documents such as passport, birth certificate etc with your parents or relatives. Also they should know where in Pakistan you will be staying and any contact information / numbers.
  • Don't be discouraged but keeping the current circumstances and situation in Pakistan, do not try to go out unless necessary. Don't do anything which may draw any attention to you.
All the best.

Hi Musashii,
Yes, I have heard that for some that they were able to get it on the same day too. I was considering to do that, but its 3hrs away & when I spoke to the woman at the Consulate, she said that they would receive it, then look at it & call me, ask me questions, then if all was fine, she would send it to the Consulate General (I guess) and it would be decided if visa is granted. She also informed me about the letter of invitation & what it should say. She said it was fine to have him sign it and scan the letter & both sides of his CNIC then email it to me. She never mentioned a notarized letter ..or anything notarized. I double checked again on it with another rep, because I had more questions as to answering application questions and they said the same.. soooooo... maybe it just depends on the location of the consulate, because I think California & NY is also a little different then Houston & each other. Also, on the sites, not all the info is there in reference to a tourist or visitors visa. I know it changes again once you are married. If they do have any questions or I missd something that Houston center wants..I REALLY hope n pray they will call me. Will let ya know :D

My wife came to visit me in November 2011 (she was my fiancee at that time and we married later).
I only sent to her two letters. One was direct invitation to her and other was a letter for her to show or mail to Pakistani Embassy. I sent her a notarized copy of my National ID card, a notarized copy of my passport. Both the letters were also notarized.

Basically, the embassy wants to know that you will not become a public charge while your stay in Pakistan just like any U.S embassy would ask for it if your fiance was to visit you. For the fees and other charges you can search for the nearest consulate. My wife had to go in person to Washington D.C embassy to get her visa and it was done on spot.

This is what is called a Family Biographical scetch. It sounds like they are needing information on his immediate family. (i.e. father, mother, brothers & their spouses, sisters and thier spouses, and any children if he has them) You shouldn't have to drill down any deeper than that. Provide them with the full correct spelling of each name, their date of birth, thier current address and what their occupation is.

I came across this thread just now and I was actually very surprised to read about your bad experiences. I have actually gone to the Embassy here in DC in person and never once did I have a problem. Their Visitor's Visa's take approximately 6 weeks to process and issue. They require an invitation from the person you will be visiting and a copy of thier ID card (or atleast that is what I have provided them) as well as the Visa application, 2 passport sized photos, your passport and the Visa fee. Both times I have gone there I haven't had any issue with communication or anything. The first time I recieved my Visa almost exactly 6 weeks later and the second time I recieved it about 5 weeks later. Both times, I recieved a call telling me that it was ready to be picked up.

I despise their service on how they told me that my visa would be ready in 8 days and it wasn`t ready. I was told to come back yesterday but I wont be able to until Thursday. Their communication is terrible they rarely pick up the phone and they have never answered to any of my emails. The unfortunate part is that they also have my mother`s passport and her`s was submitted last Thursday. I just hope we receive it before our Nov 12 flight :-/

(2) Received Renunciation certificate in May 2010 (all good uptil here)
(3) Received a letter in the mail in Dec 2010 indicating I need to pay $100 to cancel my ID card
a. The ID card was already cancelled, otherwise renunciation certificate would not have been provided
b. When I called PK embassy in Washington, I tried to tell them my case was already completed before this fee went into effect. Their reply, WE DO NOT care, you must pay the fee to NADRA (the people who make ID cards in PK) - they had some guts to tell me that. I asked them, has my ID card been cancelled? they said yes. Am I currently a citizen of PK? No (their response). What happens if I do not pay the fee? We do not know. So I was like okay, then I do not have a good reason to pay the fee.
(4) Recently in Jun 2011, I applied for a POC card - guess what, they were smart enough to figure out I have not yet paid the cancellation fee. So they asked for it. So I send it to them with the POC application.
(5) They issue me a receipt for receiving all the documents required for POC but return my fee for the old id card.
(6) 3 months later, I find out, NADRA still wants the fee, so I sent it again to the PK embassy.
(7) This time they returned it to me with a rejection letter telling me to submit a POC application, support docs and etc - which is completely retarded because I have already done so and all what I need is them to take my $100 and issue me a receipt so I can give this to NADRA and they can mail me my new card
(8) Now, I have sent them the receipt of the application which indicates all of the items which were on the rejection letter had already been received by them as indicated by the receipt they issued me.

So now I am just waiting to see what happens. I tried depositing the fee directly to NADRA through a friend in PK but they refuse to take it.

I am seriously dumbfounded here and could not be more glad that I have moved away from a country who does not give a **** about its past or present citizens and hire office workers completely based on who has the most strongest connection or can pay the most. Shame on you PK Embassy!

Asia: SouthIslamabad: major problem in visa status need desperate advise please K1-K3
" i m getting is that ftell e,bassy not to send the interview letter and file a petition for I-130 here and upon approval of the case call visa center and tell the, that k1 is in process in Islamabad with valid case numbers so they know it's a legit case and can expedite the process as our intentions were absolutely not to lie to government but circumstances change. I sm a 100% law biding citizen and do everything proper and legal from day 1 "

To me, this looks like the right option but I dont think it would be expedited as EAbbas said unless you have reasons for expedite. And you should follow the CR1 route as you are married to her and God forbid if your finance gets denied in the interview for k-1 petition for misrepresentation God forbid that can lead to serious consequences.

Asia: SouthPakistani filers - Marriage certificate queries

Salaam...

My questions are about my marriage certificate.

1. My marriage certificate/Nikahnama is originally in English. The Imam who solemnized our Nikah brought the Nikahnama papers and they were all in English. Is that okay? I read somewhere they ask for the Urdu one but ours was already primarily in English. Should I get an Urdu translation? :S

2. I've heard that computerized nikahnama's are now being introduced. Do I have to get mine too? Did any recent NVC/interview filer have any experience with it?

Thank you for your help! :)

Regarding #2, I think you might be referring to the 'Registration' which is computerized. I submitted it along with my Nikahnama. The more proof, the better in my opinion.
