Dear All

So, while living and working in Mexico I totally missed the ball and my application expired. All I had to do was the interview! BUT we did see each other around 20 times last year (I have the flight ticket stubs and credit card bill to prove it).

We have to re-file. They claim to have purge our file.

Question

If I remain in Mexico should I use this as my Country of Residence? I am guessing that if I do this I will not have to keep travelling to and from London for the medical and interview.

Paul (in Dallas right now filling out the new application)

Well, this is a confusing message....so to recap: the beneficiary is in mexico now but originally from England? Is the beneficiary also a citizen of mexico?

Hi everyone! Yes I am the beneficiary. I have a full time job here in the Philippines and I was just curious if you really have to prove that you no longer have ties to your home country the moment you leave to use your K1 for entry to the US. I think I know whhat path to take now. Thanks a lot for all your replies!

Oops, sorry, I misundertood the question...I thought it was the petitioner asking! Sorry for that! smile.gif Thanks for all that clarified. good.gif Better get back to reading comprehension 101 kicking.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresResignation After the K1 Approval
QUOTE (Kamz @ Jul 31 2008, 09:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everyone,

This is a very curious question but I hope you could shed some light on this. When the K1 is approved, does the immigration officer at the port of entry ask you about your employment status? I was thinking of filing for resignation when it's about time that I leave. Do they need proof that I have indeed resigned from my previous job and that I have no pending obligations in my home country?

Thanks!

In your case, I would be worried about providing the support evidence for your AOS; if you can resign now, have your fiance come, but have a full time job by the time you do your aos, i would assume you would be fine. However, if you resign, and then you do your aos with no full time job, that might not go well when providing your affidavit of support.

Now I know this might sound crazy but I met a girl online who I love very, very much. I have known her for a while now and I have talked to her almost everyday for hours and I have never been happier. The thing is she lives in another country and I want her to be over here with me. I want to be with this girl and I know I'm a bit young but I would love to be with this girl forever. Now I heard that you need to have income tax and properties to get married and I don't have any of those yet cause I'm still young and about to start college. Is there any possible way around this? I really hope there is cause I want to be with her so bad. If you need anymore information to help me work this out that isn't too private feel free to ask.

You would have to apply for the k1 visa and if you can't support your fiancee, then you would have to be sponsored by a family member; also, to have a solid case, you need to meet your fiancee in person sometime before the process starts. Plenty of other threads on this forum about that. Search for sponsored visa or low income, etc.

The only concern I would have is----what mailing address will your forms be mailed to? And by that I mean, that at some point in the process forms will be sent to your foreign address by your consulate. Are you going to use your new address for that?

hello I just have a question about my fiance's employment on the G325A...

currently, he is just working for a friend, making some commission and his friend gives him some money whenever, he will not be receiving any W2's... this is just temporary since he quit his last job and is looking for a new one... so I was wondering if he should write this job on the employment section on the G325A.... or if I do should he write a little explanation beside it...

oh and also....
for both G325A's.... we have added a supplement sheet, just because there is some is gaps because were both in school, so just to be clear... is this okay?? and how should title this page on the cover letter???

thanks smile.gif

You mentioned he is not going to be receiving any w'2s. So basically your fiance is working under the table, correct? In other words, he is not paying taxes for this commision/income he receives---is that correct?

I wouldn't even say it is commission based... but his friend gives him money if he works at the store a few days a week... so ya I guess its under the table...

I guess I answered my own question... if he is just helping out... then it is not considered a job, therefore should not be listed as employment correct???

Indeed. It would be a terrible mistake if you did. You could open a can of worms that you wish you didn't; if he is not paying taxes on it, don't even thing about writing it in.

mine was 2 sentences... short & factual

Ours was a paragraph; basically, we met on such and such date while doing such and such; then we proceeded to meet in person in such and such and such dates.

After reviewing it I found out that I need to make a minor change to it, however now that I have saved it, it will not let me make any changes to it/type inside the box anymore. Is there anyway to change this, or do I have to fill out all of the pages again?? Thanks a lot. Josh

I just tried it on my computer and i can change the text after saving it; i did notice however, that when i opened the document with my nitro pdf reader, i wasn't able to make any changes; however, when i did it in adobe, no problem.

Should she just fill it out as she lives now or what?

I would continue using parent's address as the dorm address would be temporary and if she changes it to that, the risk of losing incoming documents from the consulate is greater. Of course, just make sure she doesn't go to the interview and says, 'by the way, i'm living at such and such place, but when we filed, i was living with parents. Is this a problem?' whistling.gif From my own experience, because of work, i live in temporary addresses for a period of 2 to 3 months, and i just used my permanent address, and never mention my temporary addresses. Didn't have the same circumstances as you, but when I did my paperwork, I was living in a temporary address; I had a permanent address, and that's what I used. However, I was the petitioner, not the beneficiary. I also didn't list my temporary address anywhere. for question 3:
If you look at the posts in this forum, it seems that most people that came thru jfk got their temporary work permit. For that reason, I had my wife come thru jfk and her passport was stamped with the temporary work permit. And yes, it expires in 90 days.
And yes, if your fiance gets a job upon arrival in the usa and he has the temporary work permit, once it expires, the legal, smart thing to do is to stop working and wait for the EAD to arrive. Some people are lucky and they get employers that hold the job for them, or maybe you know a family member that wants to legally employ your husband for those 90 days that his temporary permit is valid. If that's the case, then get the permit..otherwise, don't know what other advantages having the 90 day permit gets you....but maybe somebody else can enlighten us on the advantages of having the 90 day work permit.

My wife got the stamp at JFK, and unless you got a family member/friend ready to hire your partner for work for 90 days or less, then as mentioned by the other poster, this stamp is useleless, so nothing to worry about.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of ongoing relationship?
QUOTE (karenrobert831 @ Feb 14 2009, 04:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We started talking online in october of '07, we met in person in january of '08 and have been together ever since, so aside from about 2 months worth of instant message archives in november and december of '07, we dont really have any "documented proof of an ongoing relationship" (there's no need to call each other or send letters or emails when we are living together, right?) Is this proof of ongoing relationship essential to include in the I-129F package? We do have photos of us from thoughout the last year, but as I said before, nothing on paper. We have all our ticket stubs from flights and what not to prove we were in the same place at the same time, does this fall under the proof of relationship catergory or just the proof of having met catergory? Is there a chance we will get denied if we dont have any solid proof?

For proof of having met in person, we sent plane tickets and photocopy of my passport with the page that had the stamp when I entered my fiance's country. At the time, i stayed at her place, so when i sent in my stuff i was worried because i thought that wouldn't be enough, and maybe i should have had some hotel proof. I got approved so my worries were irrelevant.
For ongoing relationship, I submitted photos of us together, and they were dated, along with some postcards I had sent to my fiance at the time; since we use gmail, we filtered the emails, and we took screenshots of the last 2 months of emails. When my fiance (now wife) went for the interview, she told me she only saw them looking at the pics, and didn't even bother to see at the other stuff we sent in. They did ask for my tax returns, and we had that ready. So relax and send in what you have. I think what really matters is that you can prove that you met in person, and that you can support the fiance.

Yes. I take it by "ticket stubs" you mean "boarding passes". Yes, that's enough evidence of meeting. For the rest of the process, read carefully and interpret literally. Sounds like you accidently sent what you needed for "proof of meeting" while you were errantly focused on "proof of an ongoing relationship". They are not the same thing.

and also i wanted to know if my first page of passport is enuf to establish that im citizen. i was born in pakistan so my birth cert. wont help. i became citizen thru parents.

I'm afraid you will be in for a long road. You have not read and comprehended the instructions for filing the I-129F. They indicate that to prove US Citizenship you provide a copy of all pages of your US Passport, a US birth certificate or Naturalization Certificate. As you progress through the visa process, I encourage you in the strongest terms to study the guides here and the instructions for all forms. If English as a second language is making it difficult to fully comprehend and follow the instructions, then get assistance from somebody with the necessary skills. This will be critical to your success in the visa process and your future happiness.

Please pay attention to what pushbrk tells you. His info helped me out a lot in the process.
If you a naturalized citizen, not only do you need to include all pages of your american passport, but you also need to include the naturalization certificate that proves you're a US citizen. And yes, you make a photocopy of the front and the back, even though the back is blank!
That's what the guides on this forum said to do, and i did and we had no problems.
As far as the other forms----when you come to the visajourney.com homepage, start on the link that says guides. Make sure you read that enough times so that you have an understanding of the abbreviations used, and workflows of the process. On the same page, you will also see a link for EXAMPLE FORMS. Those help a lot. Finally, I highly recommend you use the search functionality of the site. Tons of info is found using that.
Good luck.

One of my high school friends went to the Moldova/Ukraine region; met a girl there, and had this romance online going for a while. The girl kept asking for items like clothes, perfumes etc. She never asked for money, but my friends radar went on alert when she specifically asked for brand name clothing. The girl was really subtle about it,and at first my friend would dismiss the requests like, 'well, is rough over there to get a job to pay for basic things so i don't mind helping her...' Eventually however, not sure how he woke up, but he realized he was being scammed. So like other members say, is really hard to have one specific tip to spot a scammer out there, but, best to go by common sense, and if you can spend more time to get to know this person in the flesh, then that might be your best indicator.
Good luck.

Hi all,

I'm filling out this G325-A form, and the employment history isn't agreeing with me lol. I just graduated college, and during the past 5 years of school, I've been in and out of temporary/seasonal jobs like crazy, at times having 2 jobs and other times being completely unemployed. The past 2 years are ok, but earlier than that things are a mess. I tried using my past W-2 forms to list all of the jobs but this still doesnt list the exact months worked. Theres no way I can figure out all the little times that I've been unemployed and when exactly I worked each job other than the general year. Any advice? Will it be a problem if I screw up the accuracy of this part? I'm obviously attaching a second sheet. I'm also including a note at the bottom explaining this.

I had the same problem listing my addresses in the past 5 years. Have had tons and I couldn't remember the timeframes for each address so I did my best, and like you, I had a separate sheet of paper stating that I didn't keep records of my moves, and thus, the addresses were approximated, and could have missed an address as many were temporary. Didn't have an issue at all. Of course, employment history is different but I would imagine that as long as you're honest, it shouldn't really cause you troubles.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A question about attaching passport photo
Hi,

Reading the guides on this site, i saw the following instruction, and i had some questions about it:

One passport-type photo (see specification) of the foreign fiance(e). Write the full name of the foreign fiance(e) on the back. Place in a plastic bag and label the bag "Photo of (insert foreign fiance(e) name) ". Attach the bag to a sheet of paper and place behind the corresponding G-325a.

What do we use to write the name--pen or pencil? I was under the impression that it's a pencil, so I wondered what others have done...

What type of plastic bag do you put the pic in? And how do you label the bag, write on it?
Then, do you clip this bag to the last page (pg.4) of the G-325a?
Or do you use another sheet of paper and clip it to that?
Seem like silly questions, but we are so paranoid about this that we don't want to get it wrong!
Thanks again for your help!

Middle East and North AfricaEgypt in the Summer

I think it will either be Disney or Vegas. Those are the two places he's dying to go.

Doodle please excuse my ignorance if my question/comment seems that way. I thought your husband was a religious guy? I can't understand why a religious person would want to go to "sin city"? I mean everything there is about drinking, gambling, smoking, and half naked women. Wouldn't that make him uncomfortable?

Don't get me wrong, I love that place. We just bought 7 tickets last night for our honeymoon too, yes we are taking the whole family.

I thought it was weird too. He's not super religious though, just for the record. He does pray 5 times a day and doesn't eat pork and a few other things but he also does things that aren't exactly halal as well. That being said he would never gamble. The attraction is tv I think. I never realized they aired the show Vegas in Egypt but he loves that show and is entranced with all the nightlife, etc. He said he doesn't want to gamble but he does want to see it all out of curiosity.

He also wants to see Disney and I found there's an equally big fascination between he and his sisters with Mickey Mouse. :)

In addition the Statue of Liberty is up there on his to do list not for the obvious immigrant coming to america wanting to see the lady with the torch reason but because apparently the statue was originally supposed to have been shipped to Egypt. I never knew that before.

Would he be ok with seeing the waitresses in the casinos? They outfits are usually very revealing. I mean when I think of vegas, I think of the guys handing out the flyers for strippers, drunk people, and gambling. I would say someone who prays 5 times a day is religious but what do I know? I haven't been to church in a long time so "sin city" is right up my alley. LOL

I think he would like disney better too.

It is funny because when we were just in Vegas I turned to my husband and said, "This must be the most un-halal place on Earth." We both had seen all the tv propaganda about Vegas but were so interested in just seeing it ourselves. Since neither one of us are drinkers, gamblers, or into that whole club scene, it kind of became old real fast.

I told him I felt like such a wimp and that Egyptians and Middle Easterners in general were really strong but he just said they're used to it. I'm sorry but I don't know how anyone can get used to living in those conditions, though people do it all over the world. I have a whole new respect.

 You remind me of grant i had in West AFrica one summer. The other Americans there were from San Francisco, Boston, St. Paul, all these northern places where the summers just are not so extreme. I was the only one from a city that was as hot (and sometimes hotter) than Africa. I was hot, but fine. They were melting. You do get use to it, but no matter how use you are to it, it is still HOT!

My husband and I just got back from Vegas about two weeks ago. It was only 115 during the day when we were there. All of us from Florida (a bunch of us went to a conference) thought it wouldn't be that bad because we are used to 95 and humid. HA HA HA! I know feel FL is pretty moderate and tolerable. :)

Middle East and North AfricaAnd speaking of jealousy....

Morocco has only been a protectorate and was bERBER not Arab to begin with. The arabic influence traveled to there

How is this any different than there being a Native American culture here in the US and the European culture travelled here? Does this mean I don't have any right to discuss how much my family's culture is based upon the British Isles and France? NO.

Many people in Morocco and Algeria are NOT EVEN ARAB. Hence the amazigh culture and the berber culture.

No one is denying that issue. HOWEVER, they are people of Arab descent. My husband is one of them.

Morocco and algeria have a completely different story and ethnic background and frankly in 1917 to 1922 in the berber highlands of Morocco the moroccan berbers FOUGHT AGAINST ARABIZaTION.

And to be honest, I would say most of Morocco compared to Algeria are two different stories. To compare Algerians to Moroccans is like comparing Canadians to Americans. We share some history, but there are differences. (Ask those on here who immigrated from Canada.) And, like a lot of Canadians I know who don't want to be lumped together with Americans, there are Moroccans who don't want to be lumped together with Algerians. So...be careful about doing what you proclaimed the Jordanian wives were doing -- shoving your SO's culture down the throat of someone else's and proclaiming it is the same. Heck...even within a country there can be huge differences. So...all you can speak of is your husband's family and the few people you have gotten to know in that country. IN THE END...I THINK THIS IS WHAT WE ALL HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU. SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES...HOWEVER...DON'T GENERALIZE THAT INTO AN ENTIRE SEX, RACE, OR REGION.

Middle East and North AfricaA Poll on Jealousy
I am curious how many people feel they have experienced "jealousy" from their SO's countrypeople.

I personally find it amazing how many have expressed something to the effect they have. I NEVER experienced anything like this in my husband's country. The people we met were SO amazing. Outside of family, they only ever wanted to know where I was from (they thought Great Britain at first) and to just practice some English with me. The only issue I ever ran into is that most people thought the Americans supported Bush and his policies. Once that it was clear that it wasn't the way I felt, the demeanor would immediately change. I really felt embraced by EVERYONE that I met. Then again, I went with no preconceptions. I think if you are looking for something, you see it(kind of like what comes around goes around) even if it is not there.

Middle East and North Africa'100 Days In America'

My husband and I have enjoyed each other....My husband is not like what has been mentioned about MENA men on VJ. He is hard working, helpful, caring, loving, kind, and considerate (for the most part, he he). He works, cooks, cleans, does yard work, washes the car, goes for walks with me, is affectionate, etc. He does not think badly about American women, but a lot of Moroccan men here in Chicago do. They have discussed their views about this very subject to him. We are all drunken party hoes that only want sex. LOL! And I do not even go to parties or drink.

Congrats on reaching the 100 day mark!

On another note, I am glad to hear that your husband does not fit into the same "pretty little box". I think all the generalizations thrown around in the MENA part of VJ are absolutely ridiculous. Would I want my husband to have a generalization about me being an American woman always in his mind? Heck no.

Middle East and North AfricaCultural Shock
For my husband, he had such a hard time adjusting to food. The only things I could get him to eat for the first few months were chili, pizza, and chocolate ice cream.

But some of the hardest adjustments that I saw for my husband was getting used to the isolation. I have no family in the immediate area. To be able to support us those first few months when he couldn't work, I was working three jobs. So, I was not around a lot and was tired and stressed. He was depressed about sitting home and wondering when fate might give him his work permit. We had to get rid of the internet for a while to save money. So...he talked to his family about once every two weeks. It was not especially a fun time. Luckily, we have some awesome neighbors who have grown to be good friends whom we now share holidays with. That seems to have helped immensely (not to mention working and making a support network of friends there as well).

Middle East and North Africaanother failed suicide bombing in Morocco
I had read of this story earlier on the MAP website. It is basically what you said -- the bus driver is being touted as being something of a hero.

Middle East and North AfricaThe women that marry mena men?

1.) I would be curious to hear from people actually in the immigration process about their journeys and experiences.

2.) For some people , marrying outside of their culture and travelling outside of the country is a gutsy move.

3.) Maybe you have travelled on planes and travelled a great deal. Not all the people on the forums have. And many are in the painful throes of immigration, a stressful and difficult time for all petitioners.

I have to respond because I find some of this so outrageous.

1.) I am sorry to break it to people, but there is a lot more to immigration than just getting the visa. There is adjustment of status for some, lifting of conditions, and naturalization (if so chosen). Some get lucky and this happens in about four years from arrival. But this is not the case for all. To write off people because they are not wringing their hands waiting for visa approval is VERY short-sighted.

2.) This is a HUGE assumption to make. It might not be gutsy for some to marry outside their culture as they have always been attracted to different people and experiencing different things. For them to marry someone nearly like themself would be the gutsy thing to do. It also might not be gutsy for others to travel outside the country as they don't drink too much of administration's "terrorism kool-aid" (in other words...they can think, read, and interpret for themselves).

3.) Refer to number 1: this is an arduous journey for everyone who steps into it.

Middle East and North AfricaDid everybody in MENA forget to wake up today?

Jackie, is your Arabic Dish receiver only useable in Chicago area?

Simo sat me down recently and told me we needed to have a serious talk. Ok, I thought. I must be doing something that is really bugging him (it's usually me that wants to have the "serious talk"). So he tells me we need to get a good TV and either a satellite or cable with some Arabic channels! Soon!

So much for the serious talk! I thought it was going to be some big emotional issue, and he just wants his Arabic TV and futbol.

Any suggestions? I know that Dish Network has an Arabic package, but I don't think they have any Moroccan channels on there (or European soccer, for that matter). Sometimes Simo will find 2M (Moroccan channel) on the computer, but sometimes it is not available. And he is positively addicted to watching Egyptian comedies (many are available for free online).

Ramadan IS coming...

We have the DISH Arabic package. It is good. The Moroccan channel 2M is not available on it....HOWEVER...it is freely broadcast in the US...you just need a satellite receiver and dish to pick it up (and someone to set it up who knows what they are doing -- I am sure one of those local satellite companies that installs Direct and DISH would know). We also purchased from DISH (a la carte) TV5. It is a French station. It plays some French league games and has some great movies as well. My husband was accustomed to watching some French stations so he REALLY likes having it as well.

Twila

ETA: You can get all the necessary equipment for DISH at Radioshack. You'll need someone who knows how to install it. Your husband may know how, though.

Middle East and North AfricaInterview Casablanca 8/15 refused!!!!
mona_jamie...

That was a great link. Here's an excerpt.

Common Names

Of all of the security clearance delay characteristics, this is both the most surprising and sometimes the least predictable. Every FN goes through a name check clearance (“Visas Donkey”). The name is inputted into the system only with the consonants (not the vowels) in the person’s name. If someone else with the same name and the same or fairly close date of birth appears in the system, there is a “hit” which needs to be resolved in Washington. Through no fault of the FN’s own, other than that he might have a common name in his country, the sometimes long delay may prevent the FN from returning to the United States.

So...the Donkey is the name check .
