Congratulations!! I'm starting to worry a bit because we had a "touch" yesterday and I thought for sure that would be the approval but as of right now I haven't received an email or an update to our status on-line. I'm really trying not to panic!

Lots of people get approval without the system ever emailing or updating. I've been religiously checking my mail every day, just incase! smile.gif

Igor's list can be found here http://www.visajourn...filers.php?cfl=
This is only based on VJ members and not the other 1000's out there that are in the visa process, but it is quite handy, although it can get quite depressing if you dont move in the right direction on the list.

Hope you're still going to visit us in Dec '08 VSC Joshua whistling.gif

Hi Folks -

is it normal that our case would have a touch on it already? They just sent the NOA1 on 1/27, and it's saying the case was last updated 1/31 on the USCIS website. I'm so scared that they found something wrong with it...eeeeek!

I am still waiting for my hard copy of NOA1 but it was mailed on 1/23 and my check was cashed on 1/27. I got the receipt number form the back of the copy of my check and registered on USCIS website and now I can see my progress. Slow now, but one day at a time! Good luck and speedy process to all!!

That's what I did too...I got the case number off the back of the check. How were you able to tell when the NOA1 was mailed? the USCIS website isn't saying that for mine. Hopefully we're on the same timeline! smile.gif

once you get noa1 or in some cases you can get your case number off the back of you check if your bank gives you that information. once you have that number you creat a long in on uscis site https://egov.uscis.g...VEa9pkFb22hq06r you can put your case number in on that link or register at this link https://egov.uscis.g...ectusertype.jsp for updates. Once you have that done you can check the status of your case and sign up for email alerts. When they work on your case as the service center or move the file for some reason they scan the bar code on the folder your case is in. When ever they do this you can see activity, it will only so like a date and will not tell what they were doing but that is what is called a touch. I hope i explained this ok. Good Luck

Well some of us had submitted application before meeting VJ so maybe if we knew what we now learned with VJ we would have not been in this situation....

VJ is irrelevant. The information is in the instructions supplied with the forms you filled out. http://www.uscis.gov...i-129finstr.pdf

Each form supplied by USCIS comes with specific instructions, it is really important to read these so you know what they expect you to include.

Best of luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI got my visa.

Went for my interview yesterday and NAILED IT.
not at all as stressful as i thought it would be. the guy who interviewed me was amazingly nice, and even commented on how good we looked together in the photos. it just goes to show that even though the process is tough, these people aren't heartless and are just trying to do their job. love always wins out.
I'm picking up my visa tomorrow afternoon and am flying out on thursday night.

And now our crazy K1 journey is over.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who was so amazing in the time of stress with my fiance's broken femur.
He has been in and out of hospital since, and is there right now with a serious blood clot but i've booked my flight for thursday so I'll be with him soon.
The poor guy won't even be able to do a first dance at our wedding because of the pain. the recovery takes 5 months so we're having a small ceremony to make things legal on september 1st and then a big party in march 2013.

i'm so happy and i can't wait for you all to be feeling the sense of joy and accomplishment i'm feeling.
love conquers all, and at the end of the day, it's all worth it.

good luck and thank you for the support.

I am so happy that you got your visa and you will soon be on your way!

............ no matter how awful you think things are for you, there are always others who have it worse.........

Sherri -

I'm glad to see you say this.

I'm four years down the road from you in this process. You've heard from a lot of other people in this thread who are at varying stages. Some ARE in worse predicaments than you. And some are united now, but went through something worse than what you probably will.

Most get along just fine with no problems - eventually. Some of us get held up at one stage or another (we did) but it passes. And a few..............they are the ones my heart breaks for.

All I can say to you is this.........one day this will seem a distant memory. It will be a part of your 'story' - your journey as a couple and maybe someday as a family. Your courtship will be a different tale than most of the people you know and it will - in time - be a very special testament to your commitment to each other and your marriage.

Believe it or not, there will come days in the future where you will sit together in the same room, not touching or speaking. Maybe reading quietly together or just lounging on the sofa. Your life will become 'normal'. I know this is something you long for desperately now and trust me - that day will come.

But don't ever forget (on those normal days) when you lift your eyes from your distraction to look at that man who came from so far away and gave up everything he knew to be with you - don't ever forget what it took to get you to normalcy. Don't every forget about how you dealt with differences of the clock to find time to communicate. Don't ever forget about the money you spent to visit each other.

Marriage is normal. Life is normal. Your separation one day will pass. But the things you learned while separated - they can actually be a boon to you as an 'old married couple'.

It is for us. We are 'real'. Real life and not a fairy tale. But with just enough of a 'fairy tale' start to our story to make us special to each other. And that's all that really matters.

Thank you for this. Your post is right on and was just what I needed to hear. I was in tears yesterday, mostly because my SO lives in a rural part of a third world country with limited access to the internet and a phone that does not always have a signal at his house. We've been together for 6 years (with about 2.5 of those together) and just celebrated the 1 year anniversary of our engagement, yesterday. All I want is the normalcy that you speak of. I know that all of this is coming to us, and you've helped to put what I already know into sight. If nothing, this process has helped us to build a strong foundation for our relationship.

One more piece of information, in reading the qualifications for follow to join benefits it says:

Also, for your child to be eligible for following-to-join benefits, he or she must:

* Be unmarried and
* Be under 21 years of age and
* Have been a child from a marriage of yours (the marriage must have existed at the time of your admission to the U.S.) or
* Have been a stepchild from a marriage of yours (the marriage must have existed at the time of your admission to the U.S.) or
* Have been legally adopted prior to your admission to the U.S., and otherwise qualify as an adopted child under the immigration law.

My fiance's son was born while my fiance was dating the mother (they were never married), does he not qualify for follow to join benefits based on this fact?

He qualifies. However in most countries (if not all) the "absent parent" must provide a notarized letter allowing the other parent permission to move the child PERMANENTLY to the USA and include a copy of the absent parent's passport photo page and signature page. Unless the absent parent has died or the custodial parent has sole custody with specific transport rights, there is no exception to this. There is an age limt for this, 16 in some countries, 18 in most countries and up to age 21 in some countries. Check with the consulate website for what is needed for the child.

Bear in mind that ALL requirements for a K-1 apply to a K-2. Affidavit of support, medical exam, visa fees, AOS fees, document requirements, police certificates if over age 16, etc. It is basically a redux of the K-1 application.

My fiance and I did include his son on the I-129f and we did check "will follow" on the packet 3 forms.

QUOTE (Jauque @ Aug 3 2009, 07:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You do not submit a I-129f for the child of your fiance. You do however include him in your fiance's I-129f in the question regarding children of the benficiary. If you included him there than you are fine.

It does not matter that he was unmarried to the mother, it does however matter that the mohter consent or that he has full custody.

When you filled out the forms for packet 3 did you include his son and check "will follow"? That is also important.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK2 Visas
My fiance and I did not submit a separate I-129f for my fiance's son at the time we applied for my fiance. We thought that a child of a k-1 visa holder could come to the US under the parent's visa for up to a year without filing a separate application.

Now we have been assigned an interview date and don't know what to do. We had planned on having my fiance's son join us in the states within the year, but not travel at the same time. This way we would have some time to get my fiance settled, find him a job, get settled into a home and prepare for his son to arrive and start school/arrange day care.

I am worried that since we did not submit a separate application for my fiance's son, he will not be able to travel to the US within the year and that we may have problems at my fiance's visa interview, scheduled for September 15th. I am also concerned that, as his step-mom and the USC, I cannot apply for him once my fiance and I are married because my fiance will no longer be a k-1 visa holder and that if we wait until my fiance is a LPR that it could take many, many years for his son to come to the states. His son is only 3 and we really want him to be here with us before he is ready to graduate from High School! We also don't want to scrap this petition and re-apply.

Any experience/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all

Hi spendel,
I went through the VSC and it took 6 months and a call to my senator's office for my NOA 2...things are also moving pretty slowly once they arrive in Haiti. We sent our I-129f at the end of October last year and will have our interview in Haiti on September 15th. There is not a ton of advice and support out there for people going through PAP, if you have questions PM us and we'll try to help you out and give you advice based on our experiences. Be patient and expect things to operate differently than the embassy tells you. If you create a time line it will help people to give advice and help you out as things move along.

Good Luck!

Hey there everyone,
We are still around and still waiting for an appointment date. We've had some hold ups with getting our papers to the messenger service and getting the final police clearance papers, but all looks good now, and we should be able to send them off on Saturday. After that, we should find out in about 10 days when our appointment will be. I am biting my nails at this point and just hope that everything will come together before i have to go back to work at the end of August so I can get there and help him move here!!! Congrats out there to everyone, and I hope the interviews today were excellent!

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions, sorry about the length. I am trying to prepare my information for our packet 3 and read this on the U.S. Embassy in PAP website.

Immigrant visas
Pre-Screening System Developed by the Immigrant Visa Unit

The Consular Section in Port-au-Prince interviewed over 40,640 immigrant visa applicants in fiscal year 2000. Only approximately 30% of those applicants qualified for a visa at the initial interview. In an effort to increase the number of applicants who present all essential documents at the interview, and, therefore, reduce the waiting time for the immigrant visa, the Consular Section has developed a pre-appointment document screening system known as Packet 3.5.

In the past, applicants were scheduled for an interview when they reported themselves documentarily qualified to the Consular Section. Even after reporting themselves documentarily qualified, the majority of applicants were still missing required documents; these applicants were refused at the time of the interview and were asked to send the documents to be reconsidered later. Because the majority of applicants reported themselves documentarily qualified as soon as they received the Packet 3, the waiting time for an appointment was typically 12 to 15 months.

In an effort to increase the percentage of applicants who have the necessary documents at the time of the interview and to decrease the waiting time, the Consular Section in Port-au-Prince has developed the Packet 3.5 system to pre-screen applicants. As soon we receive a Packet 3 from the NVC, the Consular Section mails the applicant a Packet 3.5. The Packet 3.5 contains a list of documents that the applicant must present at the time of the interview. The instructions direct the applicant to assemble the documents and deposit them at a local courier service. For a small fee, payable by the applicant, the service assembles a packet for each applicant and delivers the packets to the Consular Section daily.

The Consular Section screens each packet for completeness. If the applicant has included all necessary documents, the Consular Section returns a sealed packet to the courier service with a label informing the applicant when to return for their interview, usually within 2 weeks. If the packet is incomplete, the applicant will be asked to gather the missing documents and return for an interview at a later date, usually within 2 months. This system allows the Consular Section to schedule immediately applicants who are ready for an interview and notify other applicants of the additional documents that they must obtain before their interview.

The Packet 3.5 pre-screening system resulted in more applicants qualifying for an immigrant visa at the initial interview. This, in turn, decreased the number of cases that require reconsideration and, ideally, sped up the entire immigrant visa application process for many applicants. The Packet 3.5 system is just one of many new initiatives being developed by the Consular Section in Port-au-Prince to better serve the public.

My first question - is this how other Embassies work? In reading this, it sounds like I will have to send all of my information to my fiance before he can get his interview date. Is this the practice at the other embassies that you all are going through? If this is the case, I'll have to fly to Haiti to bring the information with me since there is no reliable mail system there and I don't trust sending originals of anything. Even the embassy brings packet 3 to people, hand delivering it.

My second question - I went to my bank today to get a letter stating how much I have in my accounts, when my accounts were opened and how much I have had in deposits over the past year (for the affidavit of support). The bank was able to get all of my information minus the amount of deposits over the past year and wrote a letter stating the information. Is that going to be a problem? Should I make copies of all of my bank statements to include with my bank information?

Any help you can provide will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks everyone.
