US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3 from Frankfurt Germany Consulate
Thanks for taking your time to scan this in and to make it available to all of us. My fiance and I are in this process also albeit a bit early on. Lucky for us I live in Vermont so it looks like things will happen much faster.
Thanks again for this..... I'm sending my fiance a link to this now!
Good luck on journey!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS 137 question on prior work (especialy to other Germans here!)
My fiance is here visiting and we just found out this AM that Frankfurt sent out the Packet 3 so when she returns it will be waiting for her.
So now we are going over and filling out the DS 156, 156k, 157, and the DS 230 together.
My question is specific to the question on work history on the DS157 #12 asking "Not Including Current Employer, List Your Last Two Employers".

My fiance's has been at her current job for about 7 years. Prior to this job and as a student she had a few "student" jobs ranging in 1 day to 1 year. She seems to thinks that these jobs don't really count for a document like this. She says that there were no taxes payed and that while they weren't under-the-table jobs there was no paperwork filed specific to her name but just saying something like so many students employed here. This is completely new to me and I don't really understand it but I was hoping that maybe someone who is from Germany and in this process might be able to shed some light on this for us.

Oh and BTW, she cannot remember exacts for the two previous jobs. Her last one as a student was at some copy shop and she doesn't remember dates. She said there may have been a short job after this but she is not sure. As for the one prior she can't remember which it was, when... ect.

Also, what do you guys think about typing in as much as possible on the PDFs found at the USCIS website and then hand writing in the items that won't fit. I am not talking about larger many line items where one might add a page for but single line items like addresses.

Thanks all

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOk, here we go again... I-134 Question
Yes, here we go again. So, to get right to it,

My fiance is here now on a visit and when she goes home on Saturday the packet 3 will be waiting for her in the mail. We have filled out the DS 230 (part one as asked from the embassy in Frankfurt), DS156, DS 156k and the DS 157.
My mother is filling out the I-134 to sponsor my fiance. Here is the question... Do I have to fill out a I-134 as well or not??? My fiance and met while we were both on seperate extended world travels and therefore I didn't work last year hence zero income. I have been back working now for the past 3 months or so. As for the 2 years prior... well, I don't have my tax records so that would be difficult.
I have done researched here and I keep running into conflicting and confusing posts.

Ex..... http://www.visajourn...php/t56869.html

And.... http://www.visajourn...showtopic=43552

Is having one sponsor other than myself good enough for the I-129f (K1) or not???

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion:help: Problem with interview date in Frankfurt
So today we finaly recieved Packet 4 from Frankfurt and very unfortunately my fiance will be on a week long class trip that date so......
She is a Sonderschullehrerin (Special Education Teacher) and she and her college will be taking their students to the Harz and therefore her presents at this work function is very important.

She read that changing the interview date can result in your appointment being moved back months. UGGG!!!!! Obviously that's no good.
I will call the embassy in Frankfurt tomorrow morning to see what we can do.

Anyone else had any experience with changing interview appointments in Frankfurt?????

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionForm I-134 concern

I have a question concerning the I-134 form, as well.

Although I am the fiance, will the Vietnamese-U.S. Consulate allow my sister to be
the sole sponsor, instead?

I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me an answer on this.

I believe the petitioner needs to be a sponsor. If the petitioner does not meet the income requirements, then a co sponsor can be used.

I am going through the process and this question of "co-sponsorship" seems to be much debated.

Initialy I thought that the Petitioner had to be the primary sponsor. But on doing a bit of research here I changed my mind. I have a lawyer helping me with my case (wouldn't have hired her it if I had found this site first) and she also intitialy told me that I had to be the primary sponsor. I asked her to check into it a bit more as I now believed that with the 865? this is true but with the I-130 it isn't. She got back to me and agreed so when my fiance sent in packet 3 she sent in the I-130 with someone else as a sponsor and not me.
She doesn't have the Visa yet but she did just recieve Packet 4 yesterday with an interview date for the 29th of this month.

Unfortunately she, being a teacher, has a weeklong class trip during the time of the interview so we are trying to figure out what we will do now...

That said, I am confident that for the I-130 only one sponsor is needed (there really isn't any space or instructions for co-sponsorship anyway).
Good luck

Congrats!
Yes, Frankfurt was fast for us too. Infact our interview is coming up soon now.
I'm flying to Hamburg on Thursday and the following Friday we've got our interview in Frankfurt.
Will report back about it afterward.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSuccess in Frankfurt!

Congratulations!

So both of you were allowed to be at the interview at the Frankfurt embassy? I was wondering about that.

Yes I could be there with her no problem. Check out the full review I wrote up of this interview here.

A side note, Make sure that when you arrive DON'T stand in the long line that everyone else is standing in. If asked while you are standing outside, tell them it's an immigrant visa... Don't ask me why... I thought K-1s where non-immigrant visas but it didn't seem so at the consolate. Even inside, the window that you will go to first (#22) says "Immigrant" above it so... Skip the long line and jump into the short one just on the other side of the stiped chain.

Thanks for all of the questions answered and general support through the K-1 process. After only 1.5 hours we walked out of the embassy feeling much lighter.
A full review in that appropriate section is forthcoming and I will probably post a little heads up here when that is done.
Thanks to everyone again and good luck to everyone on their paths.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionproof of genuine relationship

Hi Vjer's,

My fiance print out some of our emails, chat logs and some of our pictures together. We sent it to NVC. My question is Do I need to print out some of our emails or chat logs too? My fiance will send me the copies that he sent to NVC. What about pictures Do I still need to print some of those?? :help:

Thanks!

Are you talking about evidence to show at the EMBASSY or evidence to send in with your initial I-129F petition?

If you're talking about the petition, forget about emails and chat logs. They are irrelevant at this stage. Photos are only secondary evidence and they will only help you if you also have primary evidence to show. At the initial filing stage, you need to prove FIRST that you intend to marry, that is done with a signed letter saying so (see the example letters here on VJ) and SECOND that you have been together in person within the last two years. That's where the evidence comes in. This is what USCIS is looking for:

Submit evidence of meeting the meneficiary in person within the two-year period preceding the filing of the petiition. The primary evidence may include airline ticket stubs and receipts (that indicate month, day, and year), copies of passport pages taht show the identification page and admission stamps, military order(s), letter from Commanding Officer, or any evidence that will help the USCIS to determine that the petitioner has met the beneficiary within the two years. The secondary evidence may be film dated photographs of the petitioner and the beneficiary together. The following DOES NOT constitue evidence of meeting: disc, videos, emails, letters, phone bills, and greeting cards.

That information is a direct quote from one of the more common letters requesting additional evidence received by VJers. Check out the "RFE" thread in the K1 general forum for more information.

If you already HAVE filed the petition and you're asking about evidence for the interview, then the kind you are talking about is correct. And if so, please fill in your timeline! Thanks!

:time:

I'm talking about the interview.... How can I edit my timeline?thanks

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Forms Questions K-1

Two quick questions, I've read the guides and seen the example forms and am still not sure.

Can my fiance put on his 156 that I , his fiancee, will be paying for his trip?

If we have a co-sponsor, my mom and/or stepdad, what do they write for their "relation to applicant"?

Thanks

Yoly

As per the question of "co-sponsorship" and what to write for "relation to applicant"....
Well, first of all with the K-1 visa there is no need (nor space in the I-134) for "co-sponsors", or more than one sponsor. So if you do not meet the required minimum but your mother or stepfather does then just have them fill out the form and provide evidence. I didn´t meet the minimum so I had my mother sponsor my fiance.
Have your mother or step-father just write in fiance´s mother or fiance´s step-father. This is what we did and we had our successful interview last Friday... and we´re waiting for my fiance´s passport with new visa to show up in the mail now.
Good luck to you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview in German or English???

If you have any other questions concerning Frankfurt, look into the regional forums (Europe -> German thread). The girls pretty much know everything, even which hotel to book if you wanna sleep close to the Consulate :)

Thanks again to all.

My fiance sent the Packet 3 in on Thursday 05/25 (almost 2 weeks ago) so we expect to get the interview date any day now.
I am flying in to Hamburg 2 weeks from this Friday so I would imagine that I will be there with her for the interview so that should releive some of her fears. Anyway, her English is nearly perfect.

A side note, she is a teacher and has to go on a week long class trip in the end of August and she cannot miss it so I hope we don't have to deal with trying to reschedule.

Well, thanks to all again for your prompt replies!

We are currently waiting for an interview date from Frankfurt. A quick question to those who have interviewed there.

Is the interview is done in English or in German?

Hi there. I had my interview in Frankfurt this last February. You hand your papers in to people who speak German, the consul himself will ask you a couple of questions in English. It only takes a few minutes though. Don't worry, it's easy!

Thanks for your quick replies. Just the answer that I was looking for!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of support

Whether you're trying to bring someone to the US or not, you as a US citizen need to file taxes. Period. For now, a co-sponsor will do.

Hamburgapples, congratulations!

Thanks Mononoke,

Like babybluesusie says, there is a minimum taxable income that you have reach before you have to file. I was away for a year traveling when I met my fiance and therefore had no taxable income. I too looked into filing (what I don't know) and found that you just don't file when you don't reach the minimum.

And btw Mononoke, although my fiance is German we met in S.America and got to know each other in person in Colombia. Beautiful country! We spent a couple of months there in total exploring from Pasto in the south to Santa Marta in the north and points inbetween. A real gem.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of support
Just to be sure you know this.... and it seems that it is often confused here, when you are filing for your K-1 there is only a need for one sponsor. This means that if you cannot demonstrate the minimum allowable income but your mother or father can then no problem. Just have them fill out the I-134 and have them write in Mother or Father of Fiancee.
Like YuAndDan said you will need to be the primary sponsor for the AOS but not yet.

My fiance had her successful interview last friday and my mother alone sponsored her.

Good luck in the process

:( I stayed and extra 3 months on a previous trip to the USA using a tourist's visa. I was allowed 6 months and stayed for 9. How damning will this be for us during my interview? Anyone with a similar situation (especially from Jamaica)? Do I have to check the "yes" box for the question which asks if I have ever violated the terms of a US visa?

Really worried that a past mistake will now ruin our chance for happiness. Would appreciate some input.

Two weeks since approval and still not transfered.  I beleive I saw someone say that the TSC was only sending files once a month.  Which would suck if that is the case.  I called to day and they wouldn't even talk to me at USCIS because I am not the petitioner. Today the guy told me it could be sometime in the next 90 days, and if after 91 days we havent' heard anything to have my Fiance call.  I have been calling the DoS daily but they have no info and nothing is updating online, we are still showing in Process even though we have the hard copy NoA2.  I am not a patient person and this has been a huge test.  I know it is almost over and I think that makes it all the harder to wait.

you will get your case number in 1 month , after mine approved from TSC 18 June they shipped my case on 11 July and I got my case number in 18 July , I knew how you feel , case number from TSC take time about 3-4 weeks. Good luck for you both.

hello,

we just started the proces. nice to see there are more belgians smile.gif

does it cause problems to keep your domicilation in belgium? can you also keep you social security there then (at least for a while??)? and if you dont register your marriage in belgium does that mean you stay officially single (just coming out of university that would mean my parents keep their child support for another 9 months)

Thanks all, I know I am not the OP but you have helped to ease some of my anxieties also. I emailed and asked SO the other night for a copy of his passport and he said, "Sure" and is sending it today. I asked if he was upset or thought I was crazy for asking, he just laughed and said, NO it's for your ease of mind and safety smile.gif. Still not sure what to do about the money situation though, Western Union and travelers checks were the only ideas I had and both have their really big down sides. It's not like I will have a lot anyways. So maybe will just bring with me.

Hi WhidbeyGirl, a little off the original topic but...

I have been in and out of the Dakar airport (which is actually in N'Gor) a few times and can offer you a few suggestions.

At the airport, you'll have to take a bus from the plane to the terminal. You'll need to fill out a quick little form for entry and they will ask you where you are staying. I've always flown in at 5am so baggage claim is pretty much deserted. Depending on when you are flying in it might be a crazy scene so be ready for that. The first time I flew into Conakry, Guinea I just about had a heart attack it was so crazy! At baggage claim, the men will descend upon you to help you with your baggage. The first time I went into that airport I accepted the help but then the guy argued with me that my 2000CFA ($5) tip wasn't enough! Are you kidding me? That's food for a day for you to push a cart 100 yards. Now, I always politely decline but they are pretty persistant. The last time I went, some guy grabbed the handle of my suitcase and would not let go. I was almost outside the airport, walking, holding onto my suitcase, he was holding on too, and I was saying No, sil vu plait NO, merci, NO and then my fiance came over and he let go. Also, before you exit the airport you will need to put your bags through an x-ray machine, and the guards may or may not ask you to open your bags. I try to look confident and so far they have not asked me to open my bags.

Regarding money, I would advise against wiring yourself money or bringing traveler's cheques. Take crisp, new $100 bills with you to exchange at the airport and carry them in a moneybelt under your clothes. They will see you coming from a mile away and will try to take advantage of you. Be prepared and don't let them! The first thing to be aware of is that they will try and give you a crappy exchange rate. The exchange rate right now is about 410CFA for $1 but it fluxuates. Before you go, check the internet for the most current exchange rate and be firm in your negotiations. The other thing they will try to do is take a commission. The first time this happened to me I couldn't believe it. We exchanged $800 for the month I and they tried to take almost $250 in "commission!" I could not believe it. We were counting the money and I said c'est tu? Ehhh, NO. I seriously thought my fiance was going to blow a gasket as they don't even try that in Guinea. You might have to haggle for a while but you can get a fair exchange rate without them taking commission. If you go to the bank to exchange money, you will not be able to negotiate the rate and they will take a commission. Do it at the airport, and be confident and firm. It will be very helpful if you understand French numbers.

What else... taxis. Negotiate! Your SO should negotiate on your behalf and I'm sure he understands that when they see you coming they will jack up the rates. You should be able to get a taxi from the airport to the embassy for about 2000CFA ($5) and it's about a 20-30 minute ride depending on traffic.

Point of interest, there is a very large and very beautiful mosque on the beach on the way to the embassy. It's really quite breathtaking.

I know you mentioned your funds are limited, but if you go to the market, once again be prepared to negotiate. We automatically cut any given price in half. You can get 6 meters of cotton wax print fabric for 4000CFA, but when you ask they'll first tell you 8000CFA. If you buy nothing else, you should find a good tailor and have one embroidered outfit to bring home with you. It'll cost you $30 or $40 tops and I know a great tailor in N'Gor. good.gif

Side note: I haven't looked at your timeline to see what visa you are filing for, but while you are there you should pick up a couple of the calling cards to call visa services at the embassy. Your fiance will need that card to make his appointment for his interview.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the trip or the embassy. I'm going back Dec 17th but I'm not sure if I'll be in Guinea or Senegal. We've been on AP for six months and if my fiance's clearance comes through before then we're going to Guinea. If not, we're staying in N'Gor.

QUOTE (Boaz @ Oct 23 2008, 09:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I frequently fly in and out of the ATL airport on business. It is indeed a large airport, and would highly suggest that your wife has approximately 30 minutes + in order to get from one Concourse to another. Be sure that she understands to take the train to her new Concourse instead of walking.

As for the POE ~ Atlanta was my husband's POE and I took a flight to meet him there. It did take approximately one hour for him to get through Immigration. With a two hour lay over, I can't honestly say that you should/should not be concerned. Nevertheless, the most effective thing to do is to simply pray, and turn it over to God.

Boaz

I used to live in Atlanta and have flown in and out of there quite a bit. As Boaz said, it's a very large airport and she needs to take the train if she needs to depart from a different concourse. If at all possible find out what concourse she will be arriving and departing from. Running in that airport is not uncommon! Good luck.

Thanks, I like your " Love like rain....." thoughts. smile.gif And I definitely agree with everything having a reason, even though we may not understand it at the time we go through something..........but in hind sight it becomes clearer.

I think so too. My fiance said to me last night "Jen, take courage. People who take visas easy have other big problems and they fight beaucoup. You and me take time to understand each other good." I love his English, it's so simple but really to the point. It's true, if he had been here in April it would have been too soon and too easy and we would not have had the time to figure out there really important stuff (like how I need to deal with that firey Guinean temper hahaha).

Now, I know we'll never take each other for granted!
