K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHas anyone here been approved for K1 at Guanzhou

Yes your right I will fix the problem we had on the K-1 also she told me they asked her 3 questions.
1 was why did I only stay in Chna 1 week.I dont know the others but she will tell me tomorrow.
Also If we go for the CR-1 I plan to visit her every 3-5 months and also plan to be there for her interview.
Hope the CR-1 goes better.
Why did I file the K-1 at the first place. I should have married in China first.
But I listion to my freind he told me the K-1 was easyer.
But I guess he was wrong.

Next time I will overwhelm them with evedence.
Maybe have her bring a large suit case with 100 times more evedence.

On the I-130 they say to use Joint ownership?
I dont own a house in China and she rents a apartment.
Also say we can show co mingiling of finacial resources? If we open a joint bank account will that help?

Thanks again.
Craig!!

I think we will go for the spouse Visa.

I think if we keep playing with the K1 maybe just waste of time and money.

So I would need to apply for I-130. After we are married?

I will be sure to have enough proof of a bonafide marrige.

I will go back to China in april or may.

About how long is the K3 and Cr-1 process?

Thanks for all the help.
Craig!!

Go CR1 route, takes about the sametime as the K-1.

yes, congratulations! I hope she feels better.

I still haven't gotten married...I have 4 weeks to do it. I've been searching for a job like a madman (no nursing shortage here). Desperate, really. The government job I had lined up may take a month or two more....never been in this position in my life! I'm starting to worry (selling all my gold and everything I can now). I can't sleep; very demeaning and upsetting situation. Yeah...welcome home new fiancee...we're screwed!

Why is it so difficult to find a job if there is no nursing shortage?

Thanks for asking...There's a nursing job shortage not a nursing shortage (meaning no jobs). All the gov't say nursing shortage and media but some advertise so they can hire overseas nurses (never intending to fill the position) and also being self employed had me out just long enough to put some rust on me. I'm panicking....I'm filling out the AOS but don't know if I'll make it and don't have a cosponsor (my family is typical non supporting nothing to do with you farang family). We'll have to see, though. Just worried sick....

Wow! The Bangkok embassy is really on the ball. We sent in our Packet 3 two days ago, and already have an interview scheduled. We're only 10 days away from the interview. Su is very nervous, even though I told her we have all of our documentation in order, and I've been quizzing her on possible interview questions. I'd really like to know if she will be given a choice of interviewing in English or Thai. Of course, if given a choice, she'd rather use her native language.

When I was there last, the interviewer spoke both Thai and English.

Ditto here except the poor American was saying some VERY inappropriate things (like words for pimp instead of husband from what I recall, etc) cause she was new to speaking Thai. The ladies in the waiting area could hear it and were all trying not to be impolite and laugh. My fiancee said some of the responses to her Thai spoken questions were priceless (some were innocent little old ladies)! LOL!

Funnier yet, not a single one tried to correct her and let her keep talking this stuff. I think someone pulled a bad joke or she got the tonal stuff wrong. Either way, she came out laughing with 2 other women.

She can just explain to the officer at embassy that phone was lost? her original number is on the I-129F and bio forms. and I will end up having to put the new cell number in her packet 3 items when they come.

anything I should worry about?

You'd be surprised at the technology in BKK. Call the carrier and you can likely get an entire log. I did that.

hi all,

i need some help please. my husband's best friend has a predicament. he had a child with a girl in thailand, prior to meeting his wife and getting married. i will try to just use bullets so you can see it all quickly rather than a long drawn out story.

the knowns:
child is his, through dna testing
wants to bring child here
child not mentioned at all on any immigration documents

the unknowns:
whether or not the father is on the birth certificate (hope to know that today)
if it is possible to petition for the child (now six)

any insight is greatly appreciated apparently the mother has married an moved to singapore and left the child behind with an ailing grandparent so he would like to move rather quickly.

thank you!

please don't use bullets next time. I really freak out!

Have you logged onto the embassy sites? Most the information is quite sensible and searchable (just checking since I wouldn't want you to get any misinfo).

Thanks Mark and Tom!
Regarding the religion topic: There's is an enormous difference between religious and spiritual; the spiritual part is what i believe makes a good mix of east and west. Having said all that, she's doing well, we're doing well...I just get stressed when she decompensates. I don't "do" anything but sometimes I may vent a bit anywhere but at her! I was raised in one of those sects. I don't believe the rules make you a better person but it is a relationship with your deity that counts (if that's for you). I do have a hard time with the "do this and it will bring you luck" thing...it's so hard to not want to comment...say versus Muslims and Christians we have a ton in common; one god, jealous god, no other gods and basically everyone else is kee (sort of but with tolerance). I worked with a shrink helping homeless people off the street...shrink was Hindu and he said they'd likely lock him up for delusions (I was asking about his deities and what they do)....they've got so many gods they'd fill an apartment building. He said he believed all of it even though it made no sense to his medical or rational mind, it's what he knew and it works for him. I thought it was kinda cool since most Hindus eventually convert after being here a while.

I'm a nurse...worked in high stress areas for years, no longer handle "pulling the plug" very well and prefer to avoid the highest acuity areas at all costs...sent me in a downhill spiral after 12 deaths in 14 shifts literally shutting the machines down while the patient gasps, I'm cramming drugs in em to stop the breathing movement while the family bawls and stares, doctor is long gone and I stand there like a #######. In that state they were more aggressive pulling the plug and my brain was telling me I was murdering someone...long story but no more for me. I interviewed at a gov't hospital 2 hours drive (I don't care how many hours I gotta drive but It's worth it for the gov't); Anyway, praying if it's meant for me, I'll move to the Amish country outside Philly. Everyone's talking of a nursing shortage but it's really a nursing job shortage...economy has everyone staying out of hospitals and there are layoffs all over. Some positions are advertised (they don't hire) so they can qualify for a cut rate Philippine nurse to get a visa and work for 1/2 price. Soon as I can I'm going back to school to end this bottom feeder competition....praying for a gov't job!

Hey if any of you are on facebook, it would be nice to say HI. You can find me with this picture...type Rob Hyena on the search and that's me! Not sure if any of you know Gemmie but she just got married (back yard wedding)...didn't know she was so young! They look so happy!

Hey one question...I need to still qualify for income requirements here for AOS? I know Thai embassy doesn't accept cosponsors but any direction I'd greatly appreciate. I'm kinda stuffing my head in the sand 'cause It's going to be a hunk of cash for AOS...only $25 for the JP wedding (already paid $35 for license). I am technically self employed so can report any income... it's just nearly all my buyers are dried up save about a grand a month. I can report a higher income but that doesn't show bank statements...kinda worried about that but I'm sure I'll be working come the end of her 3 months here. I'm holding out but may have to break down and go to a nursing home (legalized abuse/murder facility)....oh if you knew what really goes on in nursing homes...

Thanks for all your responses. I'm Christian, she's Buddhist...even did a nun stint before coming here for good luck. I, too believe all religions have good. Buddhists (how they are in...say Laos) behave more like pre-Byzantine Christians before we burned everyone at the stake and the inquisitions and evils associated with Christianity now (don't get me started) LOL

Something rang and I guess it was there but I needed to read it. She IS going through a lot and the year and a half before we'd break up monthly for 2 days like clock work. I put 2 and 2 together and learned to give her a free pass and ignore it....mai penrai and that made the difference. It could be a little of that but timing is off right now so I'm going with the culture shock thing.

I think it's hard for her to live here, have ac and heat while her family is practically camping out in Isaan. She did beautician stuff before...and worked for McDonalds for a couple months...it was cheaper for her not to work cause of transportation and very low pay at McD's there and for 17 years before she worked in a sweat shop 18 hours a day 6/wk

I'm sure she's lonely, hates answering to family and friends asking "does he have a job yet?" etc, etc... so she's avoiding calling them.

I'm sure she feels she's in a pressure cooker wanting to help out, frustrated she can't work yet and we're in limbo. I have no idea what to do...have enough for marriage but AOS before 3 months (that's the next step, right?) is over a grand so I gotta wait on that. We wanted a nice, pretty wedding but I'm completely screwed jobwise...never been without one in my life.

I haven't reacted, been polite and pleasant...asked her why the door was locked "because I didn't want to see anyone" she said. Oh well...that's life. what can I do?

Yes it is all about patience and love, the only exceptions might be scamming where girl pretends everything and uses you to come to the country. gotta watch for that, but its hard to watch for it if you love her and feel trust is present between each other

guess I write too much. The "friend" I saw on FB after 22 years so no I didn't know his whole situation that's just the little he told me; I'm sure there was much more to it but I wasn't about to ask.

Maybe I vented too much here and got crabby amidst my stop drinking/smoking (which was not easy) but I'm all done. I definitely don't vent like that to her so please forgive me. If you don't smoke, don't start! It's hell getting off them like a demon inside you trying to kill you before it leaves and you're reaching for something you can't have. I told her it wasn't fair to her I did and she didn't so I had to stop...for me also and for spiritual reasons...just clean it all out and be done. I just feel I'm in a pressure cooker and about to fall apart with no job and she wants a job now and almost seems angry, doesn't believe me she can't yet and she reminds me (Mr. No job who's about to lose everything) she wants a house in Thailand and a car...in Thailand. I've never been without a job in my life. She is angry I seemed to have come down with the non pig flu (high fever, etc...apparently pig flu I had last month has no cross immunity so here I go again)! She told me to go to the doc but she doesn't understand no insurance, no job, no doc and it's only the flu. I'm sure there's some communication gap where she thinks I'm full of excuses not to work and pretending to be sick? I dunno but her reaction is opposite what i'd think as I knew her before.

I just can't keep up with what she wants, trying to keep my own head above water and overall I'm worried. I have listened to all of you; critical or not. THanks for taking the time. I'm not perfect; just not used to someone being angry for things out of my control, we both likely assume too much and this no job ####### is killing me. Her demands for large items abroad sickens me and worries me, as well.

Oh well, she's got the door locked upstairs so I'm on the couch; I thought we had a great day, too.

One thing I'd like to point out is that for those of you planning on getting your spouse naturalized, they will need to be able to read and speak English, as well as pass the naturalization quiz, which consists of 10 questions out of a possible 100 choices, and must get 6 of those correct.

They not only need to be able to read and write to pass the written drivers exam, but they have to be able to understand the evaluator during the driving exam, which consists of many driving maneuvers. I think many of us have forgotten how difficult an actual driving exam can be, in addition to passing the written test.

Bottom line: there are no shortcuts. no0pb.gif

No kidding! I have a friend who sent his fiancee home after 3 months cause she had no intention or willingness to learn English. I'm in a holding pattern. I told her if she wants a car, job, citizenship or anything...learn English! In CA they offer the driving test in Thai, though. Nowhere else I know they do this.

I think the culture may be they can talk their way out of stuff or pay someone off until they realize (and some learned early) nothing but hard work actually gets it done. If I had access to materials, I'm sure I could learn more Thai in 3 years...Only 2 months and I could speak enough to get around. I just don't know how to help her...I'm too close to teach so it backfires.

I helped my friends wife get her Licence hear in CA last year. for me it was easy to help/ teach her but when her husband tryed all they did was fight. CA has the writen test in Thai but the translation is off so it may still take a few times to pass they also have it on tape were they read the ? to you so if someone dont read english they can still take the test. Also they told her she could drive on her Thai licence for 1 yr or till she could get a CA licence they have Geico insurance and that was not a problem. I am thinking ahead as I am doing the K1 thing now and my Fiencee is in Thailand she is going to driving school over there it is only 3300Bhat for 20 hrs a lot cheaper than hear and when she comes next year if she need I will just send her to a refresher course or maybe my friend will pay me back and teach her. anyway I hope that helps someone and good luck to all!!!

My wife got her driver's license in Bangkok then got the international one. When she got here, I drove for the first couple days then let her try. She had a difficult time keeping the car on the road. Turns out driving tests over there only means that you paid for it. You slip some money even if you fail. I have a long haul in front of me teaching her to drive...even though she's got an international DL.

Just letting you know!

Hey HYENA...take your wife to here: Wat Thai DC

This is right next to you in Silver Springs. You're wife will most likely love it! Its right off of 495 and Georgia.

Plus...right down Georgia Avenue (On Georgia and Thayer) from the Wat about 5 miles is a great Thai market where all the local Thais hang out.

If you're Thai and in Balt/DC...you need to be taking her there. She'll get all her comfort foods, comfort language, and can even get Thai Movies there at a VERY cheap price.

Peace,

the reason so many step thru scooters are 49cc is because in many states a bike must be both step thru and less than 50cc in order to drive without a license. Here you can only drive on the shoulder, though. Unfortunately she doesn't drive scooters, either. She is picking up some words and I correct her from pigeon to standard English. I'm not pushing her much (which is why I vent here) since I know she's going through a lot. Living in the boonies, we've got a pond out back, 5 acres and dogs (she always bugs me to wash the dogs every other day...I told her once a week...we're working on that) LOL!

She misses her home and calls every couple days. My kids come here on the weekends and they have a blast. I guess I'll feel more comfy taking her all around more once I land a job. I spend most my days researching and applying since finding a job IS my job right now. This job thing's got me with insomnia though. She hit the hay a couple hours ago and i'll likely be here for a couple more. There are many large complications right now I won't go into but basically we need to sell this place and buy another...but a job...rent before 2 years of employment for the mortgage app, etc. ugh! She's beside herself why my family doesn't step in but I told her farang families seem to help strangers and rarely their own kin from what I've seen. I wanted to take her to see the Marine Band (their last concert) Friday night but we gotta get the kids...

I think I'll look at the library; great idea (thanks)!

I do appreciate all the helpful suggestions everyone!!! We did go to the county clinic to get her "pills" and they set her up with regular gyn services for the next year (made her promise this visit wasn't a one time that she'd be their patient permanently) I was impressed. When we paid nothing (sliding scale) she was impressed and kept saying how nice everyone was. She's still looking for Thais just to say HI (preferably Isaan since she's scared of Thai Thais here) but so far everyone she swears is a Thai I say "nope, Pino" cause of that spanish accent the pinos have.

My mom wants us to head to the Eastern shore to her place then hit the beach and see her churchy friends....I'm considering it since she's got cabin fever.

Maybe I'll have her drive the straight freeway part of the way there....gotta think about that. She went off the road only twice and nearly ran a stop sign (thank God for emergency hand brakes)....although she insisted she was gonna stop, I saw no evidence 3 car lengths before it. I told her to be conservative and do everything slowly so i know her next move....it's my only car so she's gotta be careful!

This sucks right now 'cause I had a killer job and was raking it in for a while then it all died to nothing overnight. Luckily I've got other alternatives but if they'd just call me back! I did get a drug test in the mail (good sign) to temp so that's cool (temps pay 20k higher :-) I'm no longer worried about health insurance for the time being knowing about the county here. They're on a sliding scale and the fees aren't too bad fully employed.

Her family is basically in a barn without windows so computer access and webcams are out. They're nearly camping out up there. I like staying there but living there would be hard. I feel for them and am motivated to find the means to get them into an airtight, air conditionable house.

I think that's really nice being able to meet some Thai friends. My teerak has no Thai friends. She was told over and over not to make friends once she comes (she said even the TV had warnings?). anyway, she wants a Thai friend...had to go to a restaurant just so she could speak Thai.

I just asked my wife about this. What specifically was she told and what did she see on TV? Kat couldn't recall hearing or seeing anything like this. I'm curious.

Well you have to be very careful of Thai communities in the US especially when she is married to a American. There is a lot of nasty gossip that starts developing in the Thai communities if your spouse decides to mingle with a larger group of Thais, especially those who are "illegal" and those whom found other ways into the US than a US citizen.

The last thing you need is dropping your wife off to apply for work at a Thai restaurant, the can of worms is opened.

That's really interesting to know. I never thought about the illegals. I guess the good part is you can report em! She's really cranky now-wants a job asap but it's not that easy (I'm looking for one now, too)!

Mine is 34. She said "why do you talk to stupid people on the computer every time every time and nothing...nobody come to see you"

I think "that time of the month" is rolling near (she hates my guts for about 2-3 days then feels bad afterwards). I'm used to it. Unfortunately this is an international problem LOL!

LOL!
I gotta get her family to get a Thai keyboard from pantip. She had a computer with the keys but we left that with her family when she moved. I suggested bringing it here but she said no...which is fine. I did tell her I didn't have a thai computer but never thought about a usb board.

I'll have to hunt for that. I do want her to communicate and find friends.

a straight year of my begging she learn more English regardless of the cost (over there) but she didn't go at all after I met her.

I'm sure she'll catch on but she still doesn't know how to sound out words....I think that's the most difficult thing when I help her and I only get about 5-15 minutes and she gets a headache or soemthing....

I keep asking her to teach me the Thai letters and reading and more words but she's not into it. I keep thinking if I know more Thai I can teach her English better. I took up Spanish and got that to about 80%...I'm starving for Thai and Pimsleur is all I have so far.

She knows the names of the letters but can't tell you the sounds they make. She is doing a little work in her book but I'd say a total of an hour in 2 weeks. I just worry if she gets into speaking Thai and typing Thai, no license, no passing drivers test, no job, no naturalization. She did get her Thai DL and international DL (which just means you paid) but I need to find driving classes for her since she couldn't keep the car on the road and stopped crossing a double yellow across the oncoming traffic lane and didn't understand the word GO, GO, GO GO, NOW, PLEASE, GO OR WELL GET HIT...GO...GO, GO, GO! (that was scary)!

BUT she can't understand enough (she speaks OK but has a difficult time listening unless It's pigeon English)...so she can't go to driver's ed quite yet. I'm trying to teach her stop, yield, all the signs but with not much study or reinforcement but she suddenly gets tired after about 5 minutes. I just dont' know what to do...I'm at a loss.

I'd beg for someone, anyone to sit my rear down and teach me Thai! I'm listening to tapes, asking others but she's not into teaching me Thai

....it'll jsut take time. I know she's likely in culture shock....but I am concerned as her motivation has always been low on the language side but high on the making money side. I keep telling her language leads to money in the US...I dunno.....I really don't!

My wife heard all the same. She has one Thai sorta-friend, but refuses to be more outgoing around Thai people. She's on USVisa4Thai, but never goes to any of the events. (Although I think some of that is because everyone there is from Issan and has kids, and she isn't and doesn't)

Yeah be careful with the Thais here. They are VERY racist against their own people for some reason. One lady at a Thai restaurant brought my wife to tears. This really applies with Isaan women coming here.

I just don't get the Isaan versus ethnic Thai #######...they all look the same and they're all Immigrants here (just like I look like a German or a Swede-farangs all look the same to them)- I jokingly tell her. It's more class warfare....we're better than you, our kee don't stink. I've seen some nasty things happen to her in Bangkok just because she's Isaan. I flat out don't do business with anyone unless they're Isaan or they're friends with isaan or they're financially challenged (seems those without stick together easier and money creates hate).

I ask a lot over there (and here) kuhn ben kuhn Isaan mai kap?

I guess it would be like trying to befriend a German in Thailand...or a Brit (not my cup of tea-I steer clear of them over there)....I dunno. It's a very rumor/gossip and keeping score culture over there.

Well, if any Thai wife does want to meet other Thai women to ease the homesickness (at the very least), then usvisa4thai.com is a good place to do that. FYI

Thanks, much appreciated! I live out in the country in MD so we have plenty of every race depending on what part of town you're in. I believe what you say about Texas....West Virginia (parts of it) tends to take a more inbred stance regarding people who are not inbred, too.

I'll direct her to that website. My computers dont type Thai (i think it's better for her learning for now...scares me some people come here and never really try to learn the new language...). After 10 days of frustration, she is at least starting to open her English books (finally). She wants to drive, get a job, etc. My answer for everything is "learn what's in your book and I think you can do that easily".

I gotta wait till she wakes up. my best guess is she watched some program of maybe a lady gone to farangland and was interviewed saying all the other thais were catty abroad and it was a major one upping contest. She tends to say "everybody says...." and she does believe rumor and media a bit too much when it may have only been one interview.

I'll ask more specifically but once she came, she said she was surprised how nice everyone was and couldn't figure out what "everyone" was talking about. Remember she's from a small town and (I believe) she bases rumor as the world view (everybody) since that's likely how info is disseminated in her village.

To her defense, we had a discussion I think sawasdee3 ??where we talked about spouses not wanting Thai friends here out of the same concerns (some wouldn't give a reason but none/few seemed wanted to meet Thais here during that discussion). I do know over there they can be catty but I guess it doesn't fly and influences aren't as deep here (ie a catty event costing a distant relatives of yours a job or a raise because a cousins uncles brother's wife's nephew punched someone or said something bad.) I was suprised to see all that going on there but I guess our set up (not being so close) doesn't promote it the same here and being a young country we stole only a couple hundred years ago.

I'll have to find that thread...I stopped looking for Thais once I read it but here I am looking now again! LOL!

btw she does have one stupid...incredibly stupid source for how things are abroad (you can get a visa in 2 weeks, etc). I think it could be jealousy misinformation, who knows? I'll let u know later if she's in a chatting mood tomorrow.

Sawasdee!

I have not posted here in a while. I am back active, (at least once a week now), on this board as we are going through the I-751 process now. I've had to deal with a lot of strange issues throughtout this process such as assisting my wife in getting a prior marriage to a man in Singapore anulled and getting approval from Amphur for my step-daughter to accompany my wife, (then fiance), to the US.

I don't have time to read through all the posts here, but if I can be of assistance to anyone who's having similar problems, feel free to drop me a note.

TucsonBill

TucsonBill!

Welcome back to VJ. You and I went through the process(es) of K1 and AOS at about the same time. I think you were about a month ahead of me.

Yep, today I am also working on AAm's I751 for removal of conditions...fun stuff eh? I'll be sending it off at the end of this month.

If you ever get a chance, drop a line and let me know how you're life has been going for the past 2 years. I'd love to catch up on your VJ success story! As for AAm and I, we've moved out of the Detroit area and now live near DC. I took a new job, and its been a HUGE breath of fresh air out here, great move for both AAm and I. AAm has been working in the QC department of FedEx for almost a year now. She is absolutely loving this job as FedEx is the first American company she has worked for...quite and experience for her!

We've also started the I-130 for AAm's daughter (May). We expect that she'll be here around the end of the year or so. That is going very well. May is 14 now, and has really been studying English hard for the past 2 years that AAm has been in the USA. She's quite fluent now! Very impressive. It will be great to have her with us soon.

We just bought a house, and life is for us has turned out more wonderful that we ever could have expected! I hope your story is great as well!!!

Peace,

MarkNAAm

Last night Thanti and I were invited to a wedding reception here in the Chicago area, for another Thai/farang couple we've befriended here.
rsn (Ray+Kat) were there as well - they drove down from Madison. We sat with them, and it was very nice to meet a VJer in person - first I've ever met! They're a very lovely couple.

I can say the same about you and Thanti. Kat and I enjoyed meeting you as well, and I just realized that you and Thanti were the first two people I have met in person from VJ as well!

I think that's really nice being able to meet some Thai friends. My teerak has no Thai friends. She was told over and over not to make friends once she comes (she said even the TV had warnings?). anyway, she wants a Thai friend...had to go to a restaurant just so she could speak Thai.

I do need her to really concentrate on speaking English and reading it though (if she ever wants to get naturalized). She's got the books but seems busy doing everything but hitting them. I told her those books are the key to her driving, working, car, independence, money....oh well, I'm not pushing her; at her own pace....I know it's not an easy transition so I'm giving her all the time and space and support she needs....and searching for a friend for her.
