Just when I think I got everything down, I find out something new. I thought these documents were only required at the interview.

you guys were totally right! up until now there's still no record of my case at the automated system (and i'm very sure they must have received it already!). But after a zillion times of calling the NVC finally a very nice operator answered and told me he already received the case and that it's about to be forwarded this week at our embassy! woohhooo!!! I got my MNL********** nvc case number from him and i'm just sooooo happy right now!!

Someone suggested that it should be printed out front and back like the original form from immigration. Has anyone just printed 4 pages one sided and was that ok? I know it's a silly detail but trying to explain to my wife how to do things with the computer is a multi-hour long task! :-)

One is required to obtain police certificates for the following........

*Is living in their country of nationality at their current residence for more then 6 months
*Lived in a different part of their country of nationality for more then 6 months
*Lived in a different country for more then 12 months
*Was arrested for any reason no matter how long they lived there

The police certificate must:
• Cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence in that area,



For the Philippines specifically, there is only 1 police clearance needed called NBI clearance. When I first read the above (#2) on the embassy website (I think), I panicked thinking my wife would have to travel to the other city that she lived in while going to school to get this clearance.

it's two separate things. The I-864 is generated after you pay the fee for it. The DS 230 is generated after you pay IV Bill.
Those two are not linked together. See NVC flowchart on top on NVC forum or in aussiewench's signature.

I could have SWORN I read somewhere that they had to receive the I-864 and THEN they generate the DS-230. I don't recall receiving the DS-230 and I did pay the bill.

I don't recall receiving the DS-230, I just have the one that my wife printed and sent to me before. Does it have barcode on it? Cover sheet?? I've got a cover sheet for the I-864 but not the DS-230. Do I need one??

God I can't wait until this is over...

I know this is picky but the instructions say the order of documents but none of them mentions the authorization for release of federal tax data. That goes with I-864 and after the W-2's? Does it matter? Does anyone else's instructions mention this form?

i read somehwere here that the NVC sets up the date..

General rule of thumb.....Applicants from countries required by NVC to submit both DS-230 parts I & II, the NVC schedules the interview. Applicants from countries required by NVC to only submit DS-230 part I, the US Embassy/Consulate in the applicants country will schedule the interview.


I believe I sent in both parts for Philippines. Does that mean our interview date will not be listed on that PDF file list of interview dates? If NVC sets the interview date, do I have to call them to learn the date (before receiving the interview letter)?

This form will come with your i_864 package. It simply gives them permission to look at your IRS data. Just fill it out, sign it and return it with all the other required papers.

Is it worth the wait? Well, here's where I see something. You have confused AOS with something else.
If you are married, and your wife is coming on an Immigrant Visa (CR or IR) there is no AOS in your future.
AOS accomplishes the same end result as an immigrant visa. People who complete AOS are Permanent Residents. People who enter with an Immigrant Visa are Permanent Residents. A Permanent Resident (PR) holds a Green Card as proof of their status.
AOS/Adjustment of Status is short for adjusting status as a non-immigrant TO an immigrant status.
If your wife comes right away and is admitted as CR-1, you will have one more petition to file: I-751 (see links above). You will file it in the 90 days before her card expires (2 years minus 90 days).

If you wait, you save $205 (as of today) and the "hassle" of filing one more form.

The choice is yours, but I-751 is NO BIG DEAL. :)


Isn't this process of renewing the 2 year green card kinda the same as an AOS? Isn't there an interview, lots of papers to provide, have to go down to the local USCIS office, etc. like an AOS? If not, that's great.

I've been through an AOS before and it was a hassle, both had to get off work, go downtown Detroit, etc.

CR-1 is for those married less then two years and gives one conditional resident status on entry to the US. One then applies to remove conditions 90 days prior to the second anniversary of entry into the US (not wedding anniversary).

IR-1 is for those married 2 years or more and they are granted permanent resident status on entry...no conditions to remove.

One can be granted a CR-1 visa prior to their second wedding anniversary but on entry if they have been married two years or more, Permant Resident status will be given.


So even though we expect my wife to get her visa in October. We were married December. If she waits to enter the US until December, she will get the 10 year green card? I haven't been reading what people have been going through with the adjustment of status process. I wonder if it's worth it to wait?

If the AOS process drags on forever, will that prevent her from applying for citizenship after 3 years? I mean, if the AOS is still pending even after 1 year after filing?

dont quote me on this, but to my knowledge when you are scheduled an interview via NVC they will then forward your case to the consulate. Perhaps someone familiar with this and the philipines will be able to confirm this.

If I remember correctly, either the K-1 or the CR-1 does stay in the US and the interview date is set at NVC but I am pretty sure CR-1 is the one that the Manila embassy sets. I hope someone answers soon. If we have to wait another 2 months plus however long it takes them to finally send it, I don't know what I will do.

Our case was approved for CR-1 at NVC April 21st. I just called and they said the paperwork still hasn't been sent to Manila. It seemed everyone else was saying their paperwork was sent 2-3 weeks after approval. Is this correct??

well at the time I sent the letter I was on AP over 6 months. it seemed like all the efferts to get our case looked at failed. if anyone knows about AP they will tell you its the black hole abyess. once on it seems like you will never get off it. well I was at a breaking point in the process. The congessman and sentator hands were tied. so I thought of writing the VP. it did not get us off AP. but. it got our case looked at. it got our case moving along. we are still on AP < 11 months now >. like a snail its moving along.


Wow sorry to hear that. I would still be on the phone to all my representatives every day until they got so sick of hearing from me, they would get something done :-)

I wonder if a lawyer at this point would be helpful?

kind of like a " using BEES to honey effect" we all know we dont want bees around our home.
I am saying this -because Ding dong me sent a letter like this to VP chaney. 1 week later.
my husbands family got 2 suprise visits. they showed up with camaras and chit. his mom thought she

Hey, I wrote to my state senantor, local reps, and congressman, all that handle federal issues....here is one letter in particular, with a little more interest than the other.... tell me what you think.


Don't listen to anyone else. You have every right to write to your Congresspersons, just as they have the same right to do the same. Even if no action regarding our individual applications. at least they will see how many people are made to wait too long to be reunited with their spouses (even 90 days is too long, we're married for God's sake). Then maybe they will do something to make the process faster.

As for me, I've only been with my wife for 2 months out of the past 18 months. Thank God we finally have an interview date.

Do anything you can to speed things up. Everyone else is free to do the same. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Please update Analyn and I (JoelAndAnalyn). Interview date September 25th, a whole month earlier than we were expecting! Yayy!! :dance:

What good are these people at the NVC?? I emailed them just last week and no interview date set, yet I get letter in the mail on Saturday. Maybe only the paid phone call gets you accurate data? :-)
