K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat exactly are they looking at for NOA2?
QUOTE (knowledge @ Apr 4 2008, 07:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My hubby was in the same situation (the petitionner) we didn't know exactly what to do but the instructions say we can add info on additional sheet, this is what we did and we had no rfe, etc...Just stick to basic facts in very short version of what you just explained. Good luck in the process!

thanks! so you added the info when you sent the I-129F, yeah? i failed to do that (and don't have the documentation right now to send, either), so i don't know whether it would be ok to just deal with it at the interview...?? thoughts, anyone... *sigh* maybe this sounds like a simple problem, but it's really stressing me out...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat exactly are they looking at for NOA2?
So, that title probably didn't make any sense, so here's my question...

What exactly is the USCIS "investigating" when they're reviewing the I-129F petition to decide whether or not to approve it...are they investigating the petitioner or the beneficiary, or simply looking for red flags about the relationship, proof of meeting, etc....?

The reason I ask (and I posted about this before but still am not sure how to proceed so I'm asking again in a different way, sorry if this is repetitive) is because my fiance (Australian) was born with his bio father's surname, but his mother remarried when he was 11 and she changed his surname to his stepfather's. He has never used his birth name legally, so we overlooked the "other names used" section on the G325 or whatever the heck they're called... dead.gif anyway...so now I have the dilemma of whether to try to amend it now, or to wait until the petition goes to the Consulate in Sydney. I figure we can probably wait since it was an oversight, and after all he was only 11, but I'm wondering what they're doing at this stage of the game because I don't want them to say, later at the interview, "guess what sucka, prior to issuing the NOA2 we ran this and that name check on him, and now we have to re-do the whole process." You know what I mean? I would rather wait because my fiance is here now and doesn't have access to all the name change records which are back in Sydney, so if I tried to amend it now, I wouldn't have the documentation to back it up and I'm afraid it would create a big cluster-you-know-what. So, if it's a huge deal we can try to figure something out, but I'd like some opinions about whether it would be ok to wait and have him provide that documentation later, at his interview? wacko.gif

thanks, guys...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow can you tell if it's been "touched"?
Anytime your last updated date changes it means your case was scanned or handled somehow. Might mean something might not but at least it moved. smile.gif) It doesn't say touched, that is a VJ term people use for a change in the last updated date. If the date changes even though it still says case pending. Your case has been touched. Its that simple. Yes you will receive an email saying your case has been updated. Don't go blind like the rest of us watching a date that doesn't move. Just wait for the emails. Ciao!

djaedi, thank you!! your answer also cleared up the point about the emails, which wasn't clear (at least to me) from the pinned thread. oh, and sad to say i'm already joining the ranks of the blind and obsessed. see you at the support group! smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow can you tell if it's been "touched"?
all jokes aside about how that topic title sounded, i have kind of a dumb basic question. how can you tell if your case has been touched? huh.gif i just signed up for an online account with USCIS so now i can log on and see a table with my case number in it, rather than just the general screen with "we've received your petition and it's pending" type of thing. now i can see a field that says "last updated" with a date. does that mean it was last touched on that day? or would it specifically say, "touched"? *scratching head*
also, now that i've signed up for email updates, will they tell me when it's just touched or will i only be notified for big exciting events?
Thanks all!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduressurname change during K-1 process
QUOTE
Your husband will get a chance to change his name when he is going through naturalization process (getting his US citizenship). They will ask him at the interview if he would like to change his name and if he does they do it for him through a judge.

i see. however, citizenship is years away. we wanted to do it sooner, if possible.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduressurname change during K-1 process
hi everyone,

quick question. i've found info about female visa recipients changing their name after marriage, but this is about my fiance (male). we've filed the I-129F and are waiting for our NOA2.

to make a long story short, his mother changed his surname to his stepfather's name when he was 11, against his will. he would like to take back his biological father's surname and would prefer to do so before we get married so that his original surname is reflected on our marriage certificate, etc. this is very important to him, but we also want to do this when it will cause the least amount of hassle and/or delay. he is planning on asking this question when he gets to the embassy in sydney, but i wanted to run it by you all as well. i would imagine that changing his name before being issued his visa will delay the process, and we want to avoid that so he can get here as quickly as possible. but is it possible for him to change his name AFTER he gets here without causing an inordinate amount of hassle with his paperwork, or is it even legal for him to do so? if it is, would he go about it like anyone else, by filing paperwork with the courthouse, or is that option only for residents/citizens? or, can we both just do it at the time of our marriage?

thanks in advance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust got back from the US
it is a difficult process, at best. excruciating at its worst. when my honey and i first filed our paperwork, it seemed like the longest process in the world and it was so discouraging to look at the road ahead and think of all the time we would lose, being apart. but now that we're a good ways through it, it seems to have gone fairly fast, and i know it won't be long before we're together again.

as for getting through the tough spots, different things work for different people, but i'll share what has helped me and my fiance get through this:

1. first of all, don't let anyone give you that ####### about being "strong" and not being sad, this is my number 1 pet peeve. sure, you have to live your life, but being "strong" doesn't mean you don't feel sadness and heartbreak. let yourself feel those things, don't be hard on yourself for them, know that it does get better in time. the first few days after the separation are like walking through a sick, dark fog. but it eases. "positive thinking" is a process, it doesn't just instantaneously happen, and it certainly doesn't happen by avoiding feelings of pain and pushing them aside without acknowledging them. that's just denial. and as for this ####### about "getting used to it"....i've found that the separations themselves don't usually get easier, because the more time you spend together the closer you get, so the harder it is to be apart. people who haven't been through this have no idea what it's like, so try to take their misguided (even if well-intentioned) words of advice with a grain of salt.

2. on that note, find people who DO understand, talk about it and get support. which you have done by posting here. smile.gif

3. as others have said, find ways to keep busy. remind yourself what used to make you happy or keep you busy before, and do those things again. it helped me to play music at home (preferably something upbeat! lol), so it's not so quiet. and sometimes you have to force yourself to see friends/family and go out socializing, but i've often found i felt better when i did, even though i didn't want to. for the first few days after we're separated, i usually don't want to do anything or see anyone except him. but it does help to get back out into the world.

4. this is a sticky one and i mention it tentatively, but it helped me to remind myself how much worse it could be. he could be going off to iraq and living in a war-zone where he has no access to phones and i wouldn't know if he was alive or dead every day...expecting him to be gone for a year or more, and then possibly having to leave again...that's a torture i don't think i could bear. like another poster, it helped us to think of it as him going overseas to work and coming "home" soon. using that language somehow that makes it feel less dramatic. lots of people have to go away on temporary work assignments, and they come home at the end of it, and life continues. sometimes i would envision him going off to war and imagine the heartache and internal hysteria that would accompany that, and let myself feel the agony of that scenario (one that IS real for so many people), then when i came back to reality and saw our situation, i actually felt really fortunate. i say it's "sticky" to do this because saying to someone "you should be happy, it could be worse!" is really dismissive of their feelings and is not generally really helpful, but if you can do this mental process for yourself without belittling yourself for still being sad, it can be a useful tool. does that make sense?

5. think of the process in small, manageable chunks instead of trying to take in the whole road ahead all at once, which can be overwhelming. i tell this to my cancer patients...break the process into chunks and deal with them one at a time, and celebrate when each goal is met. getting to your filing date is one milestone you can get to, and pass. then getting the NOA2. then getting packet 3, etc. baby steps and before you know it you'll be almost there.

6. talk to your lovey as much as you can...plan for the future, talk about the happy times that are ahead. helping yourself to focus on how amazing and wonderful your life together will be when this is all over will remind you that every bit of heartache you go through will be SO worth it in the end.

7. it helps me to have lots of his things around. instead of being a painful reminder (although it does hurt to see them, at times), it helps me to think of him as being temporarily gone, soon to return. his shoes by the front door. his pajamas by the bed. some of his cologne in the bathroom. if he hasn't lived with you (i forget what your original post said) this might not be as effective but find ways to make him a tangible presence in your daily life.

8. recognize that some moments, or some days, nothing will help you to feel better. this comes with the territory, and it doesn't represent failure. it's just part of the process. let yourself feel miserable, remind yourself it won't last, and do what you can to get through it.

well, that's all the wisdom i have to share at the moment. besides, it's almost time for my daily meltdown about how much i miss my boy. LOL just kidding! sort of. wink.gif

hang in there, it gets better!!! good.gif

hugs, susie smile.gif

What steps need to be taken once mother gets rights to travel back to philippines, before one year is up. She wants to pick up her two girls and bring them back with her. I think they have to have medical exams and passports, how do we get the medical exams scheduled?

They probably qualify for K2 visas. The process is nearly the same as for the K1 application at the consulate. Most of the same forms and documents are required. In all probability, she'll need a quit claim from the children's father. Yes, they will need passports.

Were the children listed on the original I-129F? The embassy in Manila generally requires this in order for the children to apply for K2 visas.

Some general guidelines and instructions for "follow to join" K2 applications in Manila are here:

http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3226.html

Thanks for the links and info, I had read that they can travel on the mom's visa up to one year, but the instructions on how to do that are very vague.

I think i know of the site with the pillowcases but i'd rather just have matching from whats on my bed at the moment! Haha, a guy with blue flower pillowcase on his bed, we'll see if he does it! Lol. My mom used to send me stuff from Canada, hawkins cheezies, tim hortons coffee, etc...what i would give for THAT again, dont think i'm gonna make it back home to Alberta this year however. Having Nigel here is way more important, my family is gonna come down here when the time comes for the wedding.

Ya well, I took a leave of absence in December when I came to England but I had vacation pay and sick pay, etc..now its gone except for like a day or 2 left which i am saving for the quickie wedding in Vegas! But part of me wants to just take another LOA unpaid and just fly off to England for a month and f&^%k it all. Lol. Nigel would never allow it however!!! So we have to just Skype ourselves silly and so forth. You guys are gonna laugh your head off when you hear this: I sent him my other pillowcase that was on my bed today! Lol, whether he uses it is another story but he brought over a bedspread that he had for a long time and so thats on my bed right now so I thought I'd send him the pillowcase! Ok crazy whatever. He should get it maybe Wednesday or so next week, perfect cause he comes home Monday. I'm gonna be curious if he thinks i sent him something totally stupid!!! But whatever, i thought being we're always on cam, it would be cute to have matching pillows to sleep on! Oh plus, i thought now's the time to start sending snail mail so that when the big papers are due and more interviews or whatever, we will have a huge stack of them to show....so i thought i will bring it up to maybe start sending mail once a week. Dont know about you, but i like getting stuff in the mail!!!

Well for me and Nigel, we cant have any kids for some reason...its funny cause i thought i'd never find anyone like me or would be ok with me cause I cant have anymore kids ( i have a 15 yr old). We basically want to work and travel and fix up this house of mine and so forth and actually have money in the bank for when his family comes here or us to go there!! I told everyone and Nigel included that he is like I wrote EVERYTHING down on paper what I wanted in a husband and ripped it up and threw it in the wind and there he came to me!! He is so strangely like what I always wanted I truly shake my head every day thinking this is just a dream and I'm gonna wake up soon!! Even his family is perfect for me!! He says that he's not perfect but I say he's PERFECT FOR ME!!! and i actually found a valentines card that said that, i was so surprised! So on his wedding band i'm gonna have engraved "perfect for me" on the inside...ok enough soppy-ness here! LOL. Nigel's on holidays for a week so i am gonna be a bored crabby miserable person cause i cant see or talk to him for a week...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........so lets just say you guys may be listening to me b*&tch for a week! Hi guys,
Well today Nigel went and sent in for his police report whatever they wanted for the package 3 that we're doing ahead of time...I think there was also something that they had to do so that they had to get the boss at work to sign something as well, same thing you do in Canada and Uk for a passport. So i'm riding his #### to get that stuff done....there is a form that you have to print off as you type online your stuff and it makes a barcode. His printer's messed up so who knows how he's gonna do that without little ol' me! hehehe....My birthday is on Sunday so he sent me a nice gift and money from his parents! Nice!! Love that family!!
Hope all is well with everyone and happy mailbox checking! Hehehehehe!

You know, speaking of languages, so funny cause I speak like...North American English...and Nigel's England English...well its so funny cause when I was there, some stuff I couldnt make out what the heck they were saying!!! I felt like it was a totally foreign language and well...they laugh at me and tried to teach me that damn slang of theirs! But some stuff was difficult, then when Nigel was here, he tried to ask someone something at the Home Depot and they couldnt understand him!! Funny stuff....I like it though...thats what makes me exited about us is that we're different...

Actually, in England and Europe that is the "FLIPPING the BIRD" like we do with our middle finger here in North America...Nigel told me that when I said to the guy at the drink counter at the food court here in Az that I wanted (2) soda's....note the fingers with the knuckles pointed to the guy...THAT'S FLIPPING THE BIRD...hehehehehehehehe...........he always teases me about that!!! Am I a nerd or what?? lol...

Ken you crack me up!
I type stuff in the British spelling sometimes and catch myself....at work they tease me about that! Check/Cheque, Center/Centre, etc....lol.....
Hope all is well with everyone this morning! We're getting married in Vegas so last night I was looking at wedding chapels....so that was fun...lol...just trying to figure out a budget for that....hopefully late November early December weddings for us...cheap rooms round that time!

I got on the ball and was looking at the London England's consulate reviews on VJ and read up on where people stay overnight to be able to be up early for their interviews and where to drop off their cell phones cause they don't let anyone bring electronic devices in there, and I'd be damned if Nigel's not bringing his cell phone to give me updates....! Anyway, people really went into great detail on what happens at those interviews and where to line up and what they brought and didn't have to...really good reading on that subject on here, I printed stuff off for Nigel and have that ready for him ...damn I feel like half travel agent half fiance...etc...etc...lol...!! Have to be prepared! It almost looked like when I went for my interview in Calgary, Canada for my US-immigration 15+ years ago...very same drill....nerves included!
