well found Reda a job it's just a part time gig but it's a start.... noone ever warns you how hard it is to find a job for an immergrant I am amazed at some of these employers gull. As a hiring manager myself it just reminds me what i need to be understanding of.

What's most important for Reda is he found soccer teams to play with Alhamdolilah .. *wipping brow* phew! so he is gaining friendships and connections to other employment opportunities that way.

Being married to a MENA man has it's up sides and some exhausting sides but all in all it's the love you get from them that makes it all worth while.

Good Morning

Well that 3 day blew by in a minute didn't it??

It was nice and relaxing.
Got a few things done. No BBQ sad.gif
Made batch 2 of that msmen and now I got it! good.gif
So feeling good about that and hubby all proud. I also made a couple of Moroccan receipes that turned out nice.

It is looking a little cloudy here too but no rain yet.
I did see some in the forecast for this week tho.
Weather has been perfect and we are only getting to the mid to upper 70s blink.gif already this week.

Maureen, you ready for Thanksgiving? I can't believe how early the stores jump into shoving the holidays down our throat....Halloween is next but for another day off I guess I'd have to pull for Thanksgiving.

Dropped my youngest daughter to school this morning. Blessing and curse with back to school but happy to see her growing and having some enthusiasm for school. I think even my 13 is excited about school starting.

IHQ...are you heading back to the states?? How long is your trip here?
I guess Jess made it here safely. I will have to read the weekend threads to see if she posted.

NAGI!! What's up girlfriend. PM me.

Boss is still on his vacation and I got a ton of running around to do on my lunch break and after work.

I like this term "wolf pack"...what would the opposite of that be? "Pansy pack"?

I have to say that all of the scary "wait till he gets here and adjustment" posts opened that conversation for Yazied and I, and we talked about all of the possibilities of having a rough time and how we would deal with this and that. So, I guess if people choose to use "those" posts in a productive way, then its a good thing. On the other hand, I would have wanted to hear of some "easier" adjustments too! So i didnt drive him as crazy with.."what if this?" "what if that?" bless him for being a patient man lol
He says now...remember when you were freaking out about our adjustment period? silly habibiti! lol

Nothing out of the ordinary for us, nothing that every other married couple goes through everyday. If a couple doesnt disagree sometimes....someone is lying or holding in their feelings, Ive always said that. Agreeing on every single point is not normal in any dynamic.

good.gif I think that if your spouse hasn't had a relationship prior to the marriage there are other things to go through.. so the adjustment period isn't just a MENA thing I think most of that is "first time relationship" thing as well. hope I'am not getting to out there blush.gif

I agree and of course, for us American women it is not the norm for a man to have never had a woman before.
I mean most men have had "some" relationship experience or at least some relations with women.

That is a good point Rajaa....good to see you.

There really is no way to honestly compare the 2 IMO.

Absolutely.

I have been separated from my husband, but I have not experienced the loss of a child. Not being able to compare, I guess I should probably just keep my mouth shut. Instinct tells me that putting these two things on the same levels is insulting to those who have lost children, but I guess that's just not always the case. I sincerely hope I never have to experience the loss of a child and my heart goes out to everyone who has. It's hard for me to extend the same kind of sympathy to those in LDR's.

I don't feel that I "bashed" anyone in this thread. I think that goes along with the first post in this thread...it's hard to read intent behind words on the screen. I also don't think there was anything wrong with what doodlebugg said in that other thread.

That said, many people (including myself) could probably self-censor a little bit better sometimes.

That's the thing Jenn, they aren't on the same level, so there really is no comparing the two. I was merely trying to understand the OP's stand point, and that is how I could make sense of it. Perhaps I am way off on my line of interpretation. I don't think you need to keep your mouth shut, but perhaps everyone needs to step back and try to read between the lines. Some people just aren't as articulate in their way of expressing their view point. God knows I have been guilty of that myself.

agreed

some of you really are very thorough, intelligent and articulate in your responses.

I really believe the "unknown" and black hole of immigration (or AP) is very trying, tiring and at times uncertain, however, as I look back to the same time last year, I felt alot like you did...very upset, hopeless, helpless and longing to be with my loved one.

In retrospect I ask myself....."why I wasted so much energy worrying"...your number will come up and you will be answered.

I agree but looking back now for me. I realize the adjustment period now that he is here is 10x (if not more) stressful than the actual visa process for me. Yes, it was a waiting game before but when they arrive there is a new set of rules, new style of living, starting a new life all while trying to maintain some kind of normalcy in your own life that you have already built here.

I look back on my old posts, emails and such and realize...this new life is the challenge...just wish someone could have given me a glimpse to prepare me! devil.gif innocent.gif Don't get me wrong, I love our new life together but there are days that I think back to being that carefree single traveling chica doing whatever I wanted when I wanted and think wow, those were the days! innocent.gif blush.gif

I have just learned to enjoy life each day and celebrate the baby steps as they come. Truly knowing the person and constantly communicating is the key and a few weeks/months time together over a year or two doesn't mean diddly-doo when you are then faced with living together day in and day out "forever and ever". JMHO. rose.gif

Best of luck to all.

It is unbelievable! I get one week and not sure if it grows to 2 weeks after the first year.
I doubt it, no one can do my job here. I am the only one. Only the boss' wife.
I will be lucky to save up all my time, taking NOTHING, until the end of May next year to go to Maroc.
I am hitting them up for at least 8 days, if not 10. 10 would = 2 weeks but I can't see spending that kind of money and travelling that far for only one week.

In the meantime I can't get sick or take any personal days just to be able to do that. unsure.gif

She is a fancy name for a legal secretary.
She now works for Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania for the last 8 months.
She took a pay cut even from her last job as legal secretary and personal assistant to a Supreme Court Justice for the
Pennsylvania Supreme Court...she had a cush job and she worked her way up to that salary and vacation time, she worked with the gov't for 10 years (what a great deal) then she left with the Judge to a private practice when the Judge retired. She was there about 2 years till her new position.

I asked her if she got the 5 weeks because of what she had before she said nope, everyone gets it and you know what else??? she accrues 1/2 personal day every other week or something ridiculous like that. If she doesnt take them she can take the money OR they roll over.

Hey Ladies...quick question.

Do any of you know if a social security card is automatically applied for after entering the US on a CR 1 visa. We went to the Social Security office to check for Raad's SS card and kind of got the run around...its not in the system, you need to check to see if they automatically apply for him...etc. I'm confused. I thought I read something about he should receive his green card & SS card in the mail within 21 working days...is that right???

Thanks ladies...hate to run, but today is my last vacation day before I have to go back to work!! sad.gif I will hate to leave my habibi at home but at least I know he will be there when I get home!! smile.gif

Amanda,

My husband came on a CR1 Visa and we had to physically go to our nearest office, fill out the paper (which can be downloaded online) and give his ID info...greencard and whatever else the directions ask for. It is very easy, it does not happen automatically. It also took his greencard 6 weeks to arrive.

Good Luck

Lisa, you know Indian is my FAV food of all time.
I don't think my hubby is much of a fan although I haven't offered it to him. I am actually a very good cook of it as well yes.gif
We have tried as many middle eastern places around here as I can remember and find, however, nothing is as good as home.

Emily
Relax dear. Take it all in what you got in front of you. It will be whirlwind until the time he is in your arms.
Good Luck with everything.
I wanted to tell you that I am personal trainer and always maintained perfect fit but the last year of our journey took it's toll so much and I stopped everything. Cold Turkey. Just became depressed from it all and I let myself go.
So from the last time I saw him in March 08 until he got here in Nov 08, I had put on weight and not only that, lost my definition and muscle tone. I felt worst and didn't even want my own husband to see me. At that point, 7 months ago, I wasn't even as bad as I am now. My hubby loves a little more to love, believe me, it is hard for me to believe.
Relax about yourself.
I started worrying cuz I told him wait till you get here and in the summer with all the girls and their bikinis and half naked and all. He said it doesn't phase him. I am not sure I believe but in the meantime he is such a doll about making me feel good about myself even though I am at my worst.
Since he got here, I think he gained at least 15 pounds. Now we are FINALLY going to join the gym together.
I can't wait. Gym has always been my second home and now it is time for me to get back on track.
With summer already here, I feel it a little late whistling.gif

I can't believe it is $1800 for a ticket to Jordan!!!!!!!
