Middle East and North AfricaMonday Blues!!!
Good Afternoon Peeps

I hope you all enjoyed your extended vacation. Having 4 days off certainly makes me even more lazy and less wanting to go back to work. I, unfortunately have been very ill. I think I have bronchotis or something very nasty that entails alot of severe nasal and chest congestion, coughing and gookey green gunk coming up...ahhhhhh well..... sad.gif

We kept ourselves very busy and we are feeling truly blessed being together...Tarik is here 19 days now and adjusting just fine.

I havent even attempted any kind of Christmas shopping. This is RENT week so I would start probably next week.
This is always such a hard time financially and always looking forward to a nice tax return to help even things out.

Jackie, good luck and sorry I couldnt attend your party...you both are in my prayers...I am anxious to hear the result.
Star...omgggggggggggg 4 more days??? are you ready??? keep me posted and good luck dear.
All those still waiting...I am praying for you, stay strong...GOD WILL PROVIDE!

Middle East and North AfricaMarriage certificate
ok, obviously I have my original moroccan marriage certificate

now in US...do we NEED to get a marriage license or marriage certificate here for it to be TRULY recognised or are we just fine having the certificate we have?

if we have a ceremony and reception here to honor our marriage, can we get a marriage certificate like most americans would normally do when they marry?

just wondering

Hey Sandrila!!

We had to go to the geeksquad at Bestbuy to salvage all the pics/movies/videos we had on it. TONS! It was worth the $149. they charged plus they reformated it for us and it seems it may be ok. I'm picking it up later today. However, our desktop died a while back so we were down both! tongue.gif Go figure....so I purchased a new desktop thru Dell (coming soon!! kicking.gif ) and we will use the laptop for traveling and such. We could NEVER throw away our computer. laughing.gif We are internet junkies...we download ALL our movies and shows from online, all our music, my hubby has a work website he keeps running and all our family is spread out around the world so we communicate via Skype w/ them so they can see the twins too...lastly, our home phone is internet based so we need to have the computer up for it to be functioning! tongue.gif wow.gif That'a a lot! wow.gif

Hope you guys are doing well!!! rose.gif

Nawal

My son, go figure, a product of this technological age, told me to call the geeksquad.
I didnt know I would have to pay that much for it.
I am going to make a list of all the things not working right and see what I need to do.
I dont have a cd burner...my computer is like over 10 years old (compaq, which = #######) and just has been surviving by a thread.
I know I have far too much #### saved on it..I really need to have someone clean it up for sure.

I cant really afford 149.00 much less a new computer BUT my mother works for a millionaire and they always "dump" stuff ..so instead of it going to waste my mom gives it all to us...it is all like brand spanking new and never used ####.
So she is working on a couple computers that they are not using...I think for christmas I may get a new one.

My problem is ...my computer has always been my most expensive possession..even tho it isnt worth a damn.
Like i said it has been my social life..for the last 3 1/2 years...so I DONT WANT ANYONE TO TOUCH IT!
I only have had one. My kids have their reasons they NEED to use it (there are 3) and now my husband he wants to use it ( he is actually quite good with electronics but cant figure out what is wrong with it)

now all the sudden huh.gif it is not functioning properly
ahhhhh let's see what Christmas may bring... innocent.gif I have been so good this year yes.gif

btw..we are doing fine and thanks for asking
life is completely different now....I am content FINALLY....we are adjusting as you might assume.
Thanks for asking...we are delighted to be together...for us this is the only thing that truly matters heart.gif

Middle East and North AfricaWednesday!
I told all 3 of my kids from day 1 (including my son)
dont even ask to "date" or go on a date until 16
so much for that whistling.gif
this world has just gotten so fast devil.gif for these kids, it is scary

my daughter, is 12 going on 21...too much make up, too short skirts and shorts

and she is definitely BOY CRAZY...I remember being her age and had a few a few "boyfriends" by that time
but it was so innocent...no we gotta worry about too much

the problem is 2 separate households = 2 sets of rules
if the rules are established and put into effect from a young age you have a good chance for the respect and obedience to be in check, by 12, if you let them go too far, you lose control

my current husband has already made it very clear that our child or children would be raised quite differently
and honestly speaking I dont want our daughter on lock down BUT I do want certain things refused until she would be much older than our AMERICANIZED daughters...without the help of your spouse and in laws, etc it is not easy to keep
the children within the boundaries....it takes a village

Welcome Casandra.

As for me, THANK GOD FOR MSN MESSENGER, WEBCAM and MICRO !!!

But even still I wracked up a ton of bills on my own land line (never any special rates for Morocco) and in phone cards as well.

For sometime my husband did not have a PC in home and again there were fees due to his
excessive use in the cafes.

There is nothing cheap about it, even talking for hours online was never enough.

It is just a major expense and tough situation all around. Someday, THANK THE LORD!, you will done with it.

Good luck.

When is EID, officially??? i know it is somewhere around our Christmas or New Year's and I was in Morocco one time during that time. We had a goat and sheep on our rooftop...one day all bleating and noisy and the next day, silence of the lambs...well

we dont have any muslim or moroccan friends nearby to share EID with...if there is something I can do, I will ask my husband but since he is here he is more than happy to learn our traditions and we will celebrate Christmas..of course.
I will get a tree and gifts and bake goodies and do the normal things we do to celebrate with our children..
I know he is excited and never had holidays on such a great scale. He is looking forward to having some gifts from Santa under the tree...I hope he knows that Santa treated me early to my gift this year....Him being here with me! yes.gif luv.gif

Middle East and North AfricaAmerican women vs Arab women raising children
with 10 pages of responses i see you touched a nerve and certainly something everyone has their own views about

me, i have 3 children, 2 of whom have become very difficult to tolerate and discipline, it doesnt get any easier as they grow, and only worse because once you have lost control, it is very hard to regain it

i feel that if i had had an involved serious father such as my current husband the children may have been a lot more respectful and fearful of their parents.

i dont think children should be beat but from a young age you need to let them know what is expected and tolerated
being their "friend" as often times we see here in US is not the best approach, especially living in the society these kids are growing up in now a days.

when i tell my husband of the things i have endured with these children and just their language alone he is shocked and when he advises me on what to do, i am amazed at the respect I have gotten even when i have had to be HARD on them

I was definitely a young mother with a husband, at the time, who was very laxadasical and whifty
not at all on the same page as me, but unfortunately it took years to come to that realization

anyhow i have seen the children in other countries, including morocco and india and I was stunned by their impeccable behavior, respect and proper place ....i am sorry maybe a little old fashioned but whatever they are doing over there, works..not to say they are all CORRECT but as earlier stated, not every one AMERICAN parent or MOROCCAN OR MUSLIM OR WHATEVER parent is the same

So sorry about the job Tasha. I'm afraid that my husband's gonna bail on his soon but I keep reminding him of the importance of finding a NEW job before he leaves the OLD one. Basically his supervisor is an azz and has fired about 4 people since he started the job!!!

Amal what happened to your husband to make him in this condition? Was it a car accident?

Good morning everyone else smile.gif I have my surgical consultation this afternoon so inshallah I will be operated on sometime this week. It's really getting bad where I'm waking up three times during the night from the pain and throwing up at least once daily. sad.gif

He was in a car accident about a week ago. He was hit head on by someone who slid accross the road into his lane. His head hit the steering wheel and he sprained his neck. The doc in the ER was stupid and even though we insisted that his airbag didn't deploy properly he said that hubsters head couldn't have possibly hit the steering wheel. He didn't listen and released us after about 20 minutes. Oh well, we at least have it on record that the ER saw him shortly after the wreck. He has since gone to a specialist to be evaluated and he immediately told hubster that he needed an MRI coz his eye didn't look right. He also hooked him up to the electric shock machine (he didn't know which one it was) and said that the muscles in his shoulders and back were definitely messed up. He's always had an issue with stress knots but these are unlike any he's ever had before and much more painful. *sigh* I do feel bad for him.

Anybody here work for insurance companies? They only gave him a rental car for 72 hours which is by far not long enough for him to get another vehicle and on top of that, he hasn't gotten the insurance money yet to be able to afford a new one. Does anyone know why it was only 72 hours and if that can be extended?

Brig, I sure hope they get u fixed up soon coz that pain is nothing to sniff at. Keep us updated and I'll be prayin' for ya.

Also, Tasha, I meant to say earlier that I'm so glad ur feeling better! Strep is a beeyotch!!!

rose.gif amal rose.gif

Well I'm a sh!tty driver so I have had a LOT of experience with rentals. lol. Usually my insurance only covers like $25/day and I have to foot the bill for the rest. I keep thinking I"ll raise the limit when it's time to renew my policy but I never do. Anyways I have never heard of limiting the days that I get it unless perhaps 72 hours is when his total benefit runs out. Either way it shouldn't matter though since it wasn't his fault right? What does his insurance company say? As for when you see the $$$ all the times I've gotten into accidents, the rental place deals with the insurance so they get direct payment and you just have to pay them the difference.

I always think to write this and then I forget...........does anyone else have the problem with their husbands wanting a feast every dinner time? Breakfast he has a cookie, lunch he could care less but when I try to pass off something that includes less then like 7 dishes of food on the table for dinner he gets all mopey. He'd never outright complain 'cause that's just not him but when I push him he says that he's never eaten anything like that for dinner before.

Let me explain....in my house we normally will have a big bowl of chili, or chicken soup, etc. with some bread on the side and call it a dinner. To him that's not ok...soup is just a side dish to keep you warm. Also I've been making a lot of dishes lately where I saute meat, veggies and then add broth and rice so all the meat/veggies/rice is in one dish. This results in a very confused and sad look from the hubster. I try to explain that it all gets combined in the stomach anyways so what is the big deal and besides this way I save in having to do a million dishes, but still the sad puppy dog face is what I get.

Is this an Egyptian thing or a MENA thing? unsure.gif

rofl.gif

these husbands/finaces of ours must have us confused with their mothers who stay and have stayed at home all day at their beck n call. They must think that it is as CHEAP here in USA to feed them these 7 course meal as it is there.
Oh dear GOD, what am I in for...good think I started practicing my Moroccan culinary skills (which I taught myself thank you)...but Saturday night, I stuck with a traditional and seasonal sweet....PUMPKIN PIE.. hadnt made it in years...i wish my hubby could share it with me sad.gif

I am glad that you are feeling better Tasha. I am sorry for your unfortunate news, keep your chins UP!

Stashi..didnt know you were preggers..congrats...may you have a happy healthy pregnancy.

Jackie..omg thanks for the coffee...I NEEDED IT!!!!

Our girl Deb got their visa, no? CONGRATULATIONS!! What a beautiful feeling...I hope that is a good sign for the rest of still waiting.

It is hard to believe it is near the end of October. I am praying that I may attain the funds I need to visit my husband over Christmas...it is just getting too hard now without him. We need a miracle...I need my life. I am just too down in the dumps about this separation. God help us.

Certainly the warm weather is pretty much gone...cold is rolling right in...we turned the heat on in the office this morning.

QUOTE (SimoAndYvette @ Oct 18 2008, 01:21 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well...it is me again! Seems I to need to be here more and more these days.

As some of you know, Simo had his interview on the 9th. It did not go well, and the woman was horrendous (pretty much status quo these days). He received the form stating additional process was needed.

Well....he got a call today, and it went like this:

Caller: Are you Said El Moujahid?
Said: Yes I am
Caller: Can you come to the consulate on Oct. 21st at 2:00?
Said: Yes I am able....do I need to bring anything?
Caller: No

That is all! Nothing else! Tonight when we were talking, he told me about the call by saying, "I think I have bad news...but am not sure". He told me about the call...and then went silent. He told me for the first time his heart hurts...and that this woman may keep us apart.

Our son (he is adopting him..already carries his last name), asked "why does daddy look so sad mommy?" I told him in very general terms that he needs to go for another interview. His next response was "Is daddy coming home now?" I told him not yet....he went to bed crying and the remainder of my talk with Simo was soo sad.

You would think our visa would be pretty straight forward...it has taken a very long time to process, almost a year, but we did not receive any RFE's, when they finally did touch each form, it went through. Our problem is this......

Last year my youngest daughter (then...19) and my son (then ...5), went to Morocco for 2 months. For months before this, all of our Moroccan family and me and the kids would talk online everyday. A couple months prior to us actually leaving for Morocco, it was evident that my daughter and my husband's brother liked each other. Well when we got there, Simo and I immediately started on the wedding plans and obtaining a marriage certificate. As all of you who were married there know....it is a go go go go situation...we basically were not at home for 2 weeks. During this time, Toree and Rachid and my sister-in-laws were spending all their time together. Towards the end....Rachid came to me and told me he was in love with Toree and he knew it was different, but would I mind. ANYONE who would see these two together, would know without a shadow of a doubt that they were in love. Rachid thinks the sun rises because Toree gets up in the morning. How could I object to this??? Toree was going to stay there, but after much research realized it would be very difficult for her to continue with college. Simo and I discussed with them that we thought they should file for a K1 visa and live in the states. In the meantime, life goes on...we are all sooooo happy, and then we have to leave. This was the day I felt my heart being ripped from my chest and left in Nador, where we boarded a ferry for Spain, to come back to the U.S.

On 10/28 the USCIS received my I130 application (processed finally on 01/23), and then in the first week of February, Toree filed the I129F for Rachid. In the application, we told them how they met....and that an application was on file for Simo. We truly NEVER once thought anything about it. It was simple...strange...but simple: Toree and Rachid met and fell in love, because Simo and I did! No alterior motives....nothing. I was gone....she was in this country, with no one to talk to but Rachid and their sisters! They already liked one another, and realized there how much! We were tracking the progress of both petitions, and then Toree went out in July to see Rachid; while she was there they got the Packet 3 (before ours), and Rachid had 9 days between receiving it and going for his interview. They rushed to get everything together and Toree came home, and Rachid left for Casa. The woman who interviewed him never once looked at one piece of evidence that he took: not 1 picture, not 1 letter, not 1 call history...nothing! She asked him over and over again about Simo and me. She then stated they could not find his medical report and would call him when they did.

Shortly after, Simo receives his Packet 3....for an interview on 10/09. After 3 1/2 weeks of no news, and no medical report, Rachid goes back to Casa to have another exam. While he is there, the consulate calls and says he needs to be there the NEXT day at 2:00. Simo gathers Rachids binder, pics and paperwork, jumps on the next train and takes it to him. In the next interview, again she only asks about Simo and me. In both interviews, she NEVER asked 1 question ...nothing at all about Rachid and Toree. There were a couple times when she asked a question that he determined could have a couple different answers....he asked for an interpretor and she said no...English only. He asked why, and she said because she said so (asked the immigration attorney toree is hiring about this....totally illegal). He was told then that it was denied and being sent back to the USCIS, because he did not adequately prove their relationship. SERIOUSLY???? How could he when she refused to look at any evidence or ask one question about THIS relationship! mad.gif

So now we fast forward to Oct. 9...Simo's interview. She asked him if he was aware he married a very poor woman, and how was I going to support him. He stated he was an Infrastructure Manager and Data Processing Technician and was sure he would find work in this field; that as a husband and wife we would work together (keep in mind I am a Director of Property Management, and in addition to a salary also receive my home, utilities and phone for free....she told him that did not count; yet the USCIS guidelines specify that it does). She then kept asking him why he "liked" me...he responded over and over that he did not like me he loved me. She then took all our pics, letter, emails, IM's and said he could leave and they would be in contact with him. blink.gif

Then today he gets this call....... In all of this...he has remained so positive. He would remind me that we are meant to be together...and that it is God's will (Insh'allah). But tonight, I have never seen him like this. I reminded him of our times together in Morocco, to try to pull him out of it; how do I do that, when I feel like screaming inside??

I know this is a bizarre case.....some of you are probably picking your jaws up off the keyboard right now....but it just is what it is.

Anyway....I fully intend to be a complete nervous wreck Monday night....sleep? Yeah! What is that again....have a very vague memory of it!

If he is refused, my son and I will be meeting him in Spain, in January....where we will do what we need to, until we can ALL come back to the states...Said, Yvette and Christian El Moujahid.

Thank you in advance for your prayers!

Crying has become such a huge part of my everyday life now.......

Yvette

A statement of religious denomination would be issued by whatever mosque he goes to. We don't have legal statements of this in teh USA. USA does not issue police certificates.... best he could do is go down to the local police department and see if they would print up somehting saying he has no record. Vertificate of residency is weird... maybe a lease copy or something from the county showing property ownership?

thanks for your help
