Well as most mothers know Santa goes far and beyond for everyone at Christmas and all
year round....most of us never stop to take time out and think about ourselves.

What would you like Santa to bring for you this year? innocent.gif

If I could have something I would really like to find a great pair of winter boots.
Not dressy knee high boots but something nice, stylish and insulated for if/when that snow comes smile.gif

Middle East and North AfricaFry-day
GOOD MORNIN MENA

It is good for us here because after a full 2 days of very heavy rains it finally has ceased and the sun is peepin out biggrin.gif

we had like 3 days of unseasonably warm weather and instead of having 2 feet of snow, we got rain.
It was just a sloppy mess last night.

My husband has been here one month now and we had a blast going shopping in the biggest mall on the east coast.
I was excited to take him there and see the beautiful christmas decorations. It is just humongus. He has never seen anything like that in his life. Then we parked our car and got lost for 45 mins just trying to find the correct exit to leave.
It was quite hysterical...and imagine him telling me outside the mall he knows where he is and is sure where the car is... laughing.gif

anyway..OLIVIA dear....I do know how you feel. I pray for you. Nothing I can say can make you feel any better but as many have told me before it will come. It seemed like everyone else gets their happily ever after and you are alone but one day, when you least expect it and you cant take anymore, your call will come. I wish you the best sweetie rose.gif

Amal...you went ahead and got the house? If that is true...good luck good.gif

Charles....I wish I had that overtime and your check whistling.gif

The only thing saving me this Christmas is an overly generous bonus from my boss (GOD BLESS HIM).

AYMSGIRL...I cant wait till my husband gets his greencard and he can work, he is dying to make money and help support the family. Not only that but he doesnt have much to do all day long and needs to get moving. I am the one who comes home wiped out, from just a normal days work, and not worth darn blush.gif

ZaidsMommy...usually i sleep like a rock and hit that pillow immediately but earlier in the week I had 2 bad nights of sleep like that...bad dreams and up throughout the night...i dunno but maybe it's Christmas anxiety..lol wacko.gif

I NEED TO HEAR FROM STAR...where are girl and what is the verdict...pleaseeeeeeee unsure.gif

I have a little shopping to finish for this week. Hubby and I have some nice plans for the weekend and I hope you all enjoy yours.

This is the fifth day since my husband arrived here. So far things have gone really well. We have gone shopping together for things like food and clothes and next is gifts for my family when we visit them for Christmas. We also bought a tree we plan to put up tommorow smile.gif Yes, we are muslim but my father lives with me and he isn't muslim plus it is just fun to do. So far my husband gets along with my father great and my cat which suprised me though he wants me to give her a bath even though she really is clean. I told him he is more than welcome to try that himself, lol.

I'm not sure how it will work out for my husband getting a job. He is supposed to be able to work but he didn't get the employment authorization in New York. For some reason JFK didn't except the I-94 for any of the 70 refugees who came. The refugee agency here is supposed to be working this out so we should find out more this week. He will be going to apply for his ssn card on Thursday so that is one step forward. Refugees are allowed to rely on public assistance so I doubt they will want my husband to not be able to work so hopefully that will help his case. He doesn't even have a stamp in his passport or any proof of a visa. The whole thing makes no sense. He isn't supposed to use his passport for anything, but JFK did scan it so they could let them all in without the I-94.

Anyway, he is looking forward to being able to work and find a job so hopefully he isn't held up long in paperwork. I am so thankful for having him here and we are still hugging each other all the time as we still can't believe we are finally together and the waiting is over. It still seems unbelievable to me after waiting and worrying so long. Finally he is safe and I don't have to worry about him being sent back to Iraq. I can't describe the relief that gives me or how much it has reduced my stress. I'm off work for two more weeks which also makes things nice smile.gif

so happy for you S and S

happy holidays!

I agree that every individual handles their adjustment differently.

Some people are also more motivated than others.
I am not the kind of person to sit around and wait for people to take me out or show me things.
Whenever I was away of course there were things I missed and the lifestyle and language being so
different certainly made me feel a little isolate BUT after sometime I started doing things to learn and keep myself busy.

My husband is waiting on his greencard to come anyday now. Working is just what he needs.
Even though his life there was not good at all there he could find his way there. I tell him just get up and go out.
Start walking short distances to get to know the area. Watch tv or read things so you can learn the language and grammar better.

There is so much to do than just sit around.
My husband has goals..but you can only achieve them one at a time.
It is ideal if your S/O's family has internet in their home so you can see them and talk to them for next to nothing.
If not, it does make my husband feel better and still connected if he talks regularly to his family and some friends.

Thank god my husband does do somethings around the house to help me.
I come home to find the dishes all done, the bed made and the place all neat and tidy.
He piddles around with the electronics (his big interest) and gets broken things I thought would never work to work.
He is a musician so he is polishing up his skills on guitar so he can start playing out a local bars or joining a band.

Anyone has their moods and although I thought once he was here with me this would solve all his problems, it doesnt.
It takes time and no matter how much you cater to them they still may end up not being happy.

That is the gamble with spending so much time apart during a time when the couple should be spending all their time living together and getting to know each other and what they want.

HOLLA!
Oh how hard the time is to wait for our moments to come

Hubby has been here one month tomorrow!!! THANK THE LORD, HE IS GREAT!!!

It took us from June 07...filing for CR1 until November 2008 to receive the proper visa for him to get here.
1 year and 5 1/2 months from start to finish.

My husband did receive his K3 first...5 months before his arrival...our attorney advised him to wait it out for the CR1
NOW I am glad we did but giving up that K3 and waiting indefinitely nearly killed us. However now he is here and nothing to do but just waiting for greencard to come.

I saw him about 5 pm on November 13th...the first we did was went straight home whistling.gif devil.gif

we drank together and stayed up all night...it was an unbelievable feeling, him coming into my place for the first time. I had invisioned that moment for too long. My best friend drove me to the airport. I was a nervous wreck.
Thank God it went so smooth and quick. Once I saw him it was like we were never apart.

My friends still waiting, I pray for you to be with your honeys soon.

I just wanted to add, the night my husband came we did go home and stay there until about midnight
then we wandered out around our apartment complex and heard music so we went into the local bar.

My husband is a very talented guitarist and I had hoped that he could do what he loves doing once here.

Something so spontaneous gave him a lasting memory of how kind and embracing some Americans can be.

There was a regular musician there just singing and playing alone. During one of his breaks I asked if my husband could play a few tunes and they ended up playing together and it was delightful.

I dont think my husband expected on his first night to be able to play live music nor be so admired and welcomed by people he doesnt know.

However, since then he played again last night with the same guy, the crowd was much bigger and he was a hit!! good.gif

needless to say people were very surprised and enchanted by this MOROCCAN kid on the block yes.gif luv.gif

My husband is too excited...a new door has opened for him again, by chance star_smile.gif

We applied for our papers July 07 and my husband arrived April 24 08. We were were not separated as long as some but we had to go through the birth of our son apart and I had severe complications during pregnancy where I almost died. But thank God that he brought him here to me and our son. The first few days were running around applying for our marriage license, changing our son's birth certificate and trying to catch up on sleep and get acquainted with our appliances!! He also had to take time to get to know the baby. We had a huge family party on his fourth day here where my family welcomed him and we were officially married 4/28/08. He also had to start playing the role of step father so we took lots of trips to the park so he could earn the love of my older two children!

I will say the wait was worth it. Although he missed out on so much I am just thankful every day when I come home to him. I really feel for those that are still waiting and my heart goes out to you. The pain leaves the moment you see them at the airport. You remember it but it no longer hurts.

Here are a few pictures of his first days!

welcome to VJ

I wanted to say in the beginning of our relationship I had NO idea I would filing papers and gathering all evidence as such however I just did the best I could....I mean we lacked chat records and phone records however, for us, they never really asked or looked for that. Maybe cuz we were married? huh.gif

Well good luck to you and in the future keep track of all. Phone records, receipts, etickets, boarding passes, all post correspondence, ring receipts, pix...etc...there is too much to gather, make 2 copies always and keep these files for the long haul....you will need them way down the road good.gif

I think that the reality is that when you have to go through so much its super painful when things dont work out. Its not like we met at starbucks. We literally had to wait a year or more to get together and pay humungous fees and just go through so much so when things dont work or bad things happen, it hurts extra bad. in my case it took me from the date I filed till he got here a total of 17 months. Thats alot of time to wait around to be together.... then when bad things happened it just tore me apart.
He will be back here tomorrow from overseas so we will see what happens.. Its been a hard hard road and I have made the choice to handle what ever happens civilly because I feel like being civil with him is better for my kids and my heart than getting upset. Plus like the mods say, there is very little you can do even if they have been hard on you once they have the greencard. Id rather just come to terms with things and be kind to him.

in regards to this saying...you know the old sayin ....KILL EM WITH KINDNESS

I believe that

Good Luck tomorrow Kat

It's not easy to walk away from someone you love even when it has gone severely sour.

I do feel however that people, any man or woman, HAS THE RIGHT to be happy. It takes a longgggggg time to truly "know" someone and although it makes you feel good to retaliate when wronged ultimately GOD teaches us to forgive.

Sometimes we think we can change someone but no one will change unless they want to change. #1

You can only "try" so hard before realizing it just isnt working. #2

This immigration situation is sticky. Bringing someone here cuz you love them and hoping you will live happily ever after. It isnt as cut and dry like if you had met here and it didnt work out. #3

All in all you got to do what is best for you. Some people do need to be taught lessons. Unfortunately there are these selfish, shallow individuals who would just use someone to attain their own means.

We all have personality flaws too, but lets face it...OIL DOES NOT MIX WITH WATER

Good Luck Henia

If it were me, I wouldnt want to come back here however, you did give it a good shot there and you do have family here so you wouldnt be completely alone or without support.

Medical care and conveniences are incomparable here, no doubt. Finding work will take some time but can be done, I think even in this deteriorating economy.

I just fear for your baby. I think you should give it serious consideration but it is your life.

It is true your husband would miss his family and independence there, however you and your children are his life now and wherever you are, he should be content to be.

I had to start from ZERO at one point after coming back from living in another country. It was hard, I felt alone, I felt disconnected and missed my friends and extended family BUT once I got into my groove and starting asking GOD for help, he showed me the way and now I am sure that my husband and I will live better here for alot more reasons than staying over there.

Good luck

Yesterday was eventful:

*Got in a minor car accident. I was following a bit too close (still probably 30 feet behind a car) on the road by my house. He was breaking to turn, and my breaks wouldn't work! Stupid snow/ice! Thankfully, I only bumped into him going like 3 mph, and there was no damage. The guy was so nice, wasn't mad at all, and after a minute of looking for any damage, we were both on our way.

*Interrupted a drug deal in my apartment parking lot and got a death threat. I pulled into my spot and went to the passenger's side to get my groceries. The people in the car next to me were shooting me looks of death as I was next to their car, and I noticed bags of white powder and money being exchanged. They told me to walk away or they'd kill me wacko.gif I need to move.

In happier news, Squeaky the cat finally has a toy she likes. I got her every imaginable cat toy under the sun, and she's not impressed by any of them, except the laser pointer. We had some good times with that yesterday and this morning.

Yes it is an informative thread
i guess it is best to make a journal of this journey, or, if you are like me, you may forget some tidbits

the list is long of what you need to get married there, before you go, be prepared

money money money FOR SURE! if is isnt one thing it is another

it takes time, dont think you are going on a vacation for 2 weeks and you can tackle all

it could take a month to get everything done and translated

be prepared to move all over the place to get things accomplished

some kind of religious affiliation document is needed as well as a letter from your employer oh and police record from here

these were 2 things I didnt have and had to have faxed to me

it was a pain to get married over there mad.gif

Saturday was all shopping and running my 2 older kids from here and there to have fun with their friends and get
their shopping done.

Sunday was yet another family Christmas party which was delightful with hubby meeting my aunts, uncles and cousins for the first time. It was such wonderful food and warm cozy atmosphere.

now I am at work...I got a ton of things still left to finish up, dont know how I will by Wed evening.
I have to work tomorrow and 1/2 day Christmas Eve (as is stands right now) I am off Friday though good.gif

Have a good day, I am taking a late lunch to go see my daughter's Christmas music show at her school.

Those of you in the north and mid west....stay out of that cold
it is even low teens here with zero temps due to the windchill factor
