Middle East and North AfricaMonday!

Morning!
I have the day off- and I am SO GLAD I was home this morning because the EMBASSY CALLED. I posted the whole story on the AP forum, but to tell it short, they called to make sure I was still involved in the relationship (yes for sure!) as it has been a while since the interview. They need to finish up some things- I am PRAYING that this is GOOD news and that we are very close to having AP end. :D

It was an exciting phone call for me, that is for sure. Wish I could have taped it. Of course, I called Ghassan right away- today being his birthday and all- so we are hopeful this is all for the good insha'Allah. (what do you all think?)

Other than that-going to some MLK celebration thing tonight.
Take care!
Baj

Good News and praying for the finale!

Middle East and North AfricaTransition time for kids
Friction may arise even after he arrives and even if the children accept him with the best of intentions
the living situation and having another eye around the house and your SO taking up more of your time and maybe their space in the home.
I know my little girl "knew" my husband online LONG before my 2 older kids met him in person. Now the two of them are like hot and cold.
It certainly puts you in a position. That too, my husband has way different views on raising children and how children treat the parents and/or adults. So of course she doesn't want him to intervene or interfere with any form of discipline.

I am just wondering if maybe because Ghassan is from Iraq, with which we have been at war, had tensions with and terrorists lingering all over the place if that puts any worries in his mind or maybe he feels he may have hard time explaining your husband's nationality and religion to others
and fear of being judged.

It's ashame that one needs to think in those terms but not everyone is so inviting and assured of our decisions choosing our mates
from the Middle East.

I am not sure about making your husband live in separate quarters. If you are married, that is very touchy. If not, then I guess he may understand for the sake of the kids, but not a guarantee.

Wishing you the best of luck!

Middle East and North AfricaOnce there here!

How do you afford those trips every year? By the time you add airline tickets, car rental, food, money for family, etc???? Of course, mine insists we he has to have all these things. A strange sense of entitlement...

oh you can't go back without money
my husband referenced that too
it is like cuz they live here they expect it will all be easy for them
when real life and the real world set in ...it can be a rude awakening especially when you SO comes from nothing

there is a sense of "showing" the benefits of your new life in America and apparently the others who know and love will
hope to reap some of those benefits too
SandrilaFemaleMorocco2010-01-26 15:27:00
Middle East and North AfricaOnce there here!
First year is a toughie Cheryl at least for me it was.
My husband loves it here, misses home and family but he doesn't want to go back to his life there and without me.

It is hard for anyone if they are completely alone here without friends or family and others they can relate to or help them.
My husband sees me having work, kids, family and occasional outings. He sees me knowing my way around, moving around freely and being able
to take care of the any issues that arise. I think alot of times it is discouraging to them, being the man and not feeling they have control over what they want/need to do.

For a while both of us anticipating going back to Morocco, this year, a year since he arrived.
Now that he is living in the real world he knows it may not be possible due to work and/or financial restraints but he is fine with that.
Of course he misses it but he knows when he can he will go back.

A good thing for hubby was that his mother arrived 2 weeks ago in Canada to be with his sister who is expecting any day now.
Canada is a heck of alot closer than Morocco and it is his mother he needs to see more than any siblings or friends.
I venture to say that us taking a vacation to Canada is pending. ;)

Thankyou I am in the health field and I know I need medical help ....I have an appt with someone on tues ..My PCP and ER personel are co-workers and friends..but not close friends I dont want to share this with just yet. ( or let rumors fly) I have not been to work because "I have a very bad case of the flu" My issue is if this is indeed true, then 1)why turn the phone off even before the "incident" supposedly happened ( that makes me think it was fraud) 2) why not just tell me on the phone 3) why make me suffer, thinking he was dead Just the day before I was helping him with what kind of medicine to get and talked to the pharmacist when he was in the store as to the best medicine for him. It is too much for this to handle One thing I didnt say was that during this relationship... (2 years ago) my father died..I had to bear this alone (1 year ago to the day he did this) my mother died I have had nothing but loss

My husband is from Rabat and I have been there a handful of times. I am missing it alot.

As for Arabic, I have been bugging my husband all this time to teach me. I guess like anything else the more you hear it the more you understand it.
I am going to buy Arabic for Dummies book...we both looked at it and this way he can say it and I can see it and practice it that way.
If he can speak to me and I can learn the proper pronunciation and then see it spelled I think overtime I can get it.

Kenza...very impressive. How did you learn it? Are you from Maroc yourself...I think so, sorry.

Well Adam it sures sounds like you have had your share of experiences before deciding on what you really want.

what were the circumstances of you coming to the united states? how did you come to live here, family?

I came here through the Diversity Lottery program http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html . I don't have any family member here, never being married before... I dated on and off while I was in college and non of those girls were what I was looking for, they were just wild and I didn't think they will be good mothers of my children (I'm not here to judge), I may be wrong because.. after I finish school got a job bought a house got my Citizenship decided its time for me to do the right thing and get married. guess what last Christmas I went to Morocco and got married with a girl that I never met before, it was arranged by my family.. My coworkers were lol at me when I got back married they told how can you make a life decision so fast they told me I'm crazy..what ever I told them love will come after.. that's my life story. let me know if you want to know more about me? what was the reason behind your question if you don't mind?

that was so sweet Sandrila. last time I saw my wife was 4 month and 9 days.
I have another problem, when we talk in the phone we actualy got nothing to talk about. i would ask her how was her day? how is her family? what did you eat for lunch? I would BS for little bit than thats it. 10 munites latter we got nothing to talk about. I told her her do I need to talk to you ones a week so we will have something to talk about? she said what ever you think, then I decided not to call her for a week. 3 days latter she call me and left me 3 messages she said that she got an important question about her passport... I knew she missed me but she didn't want to say that hahaha. Anyways I don't Know what to do with her, when I call her she doesn't talk much and when I don't she freak out. I have no D she loves me, but she is young (21 years old, I'm 29) and never being in a relationship before. she need to improve her communication skills with her Hubby before I give up. mad.gif

Abdelkrim

Is it neat to hear things from man's perspective. There were definitely times I felt a slave to the computer and our frustration sometimes would lead to silence and even fighting. We were able to talk so much and even though I needed to talk to him everyday it just seemed we would have less and less to talk about. I was here working and having plenty to keep me busy and he was over there with no real quality of life or activities. He was far more depressed and deprived than me and it just tore me apart. I felt like I had to sit around and do nothing in order for him not to feel left out.
When you just sit in front of the computer or talk on the phone for hours upon hours everyday you do run out of things to say and you end up just bickering. It was an awful time but sometimes we would just find comfort in knowing we were together even though we were so far.

I am the starter wife for my husband too and I think it takes time to learn the ins and outs of relationships and the opposite sex whistling.gif
It was a routine but it gets tiring just sitting in one place for hours every night after sitting all day at work.
SandrilaFemaleMorocco2009-04-08 13:27:00
Middle East and North AfricaFor those who are waiting for there lovers to come!!
I would say that hubby and I spent about 2 1/2 years in our long distance relationship. At first I was visiting more frequently and it wasnt so bad but once we hired an attorney and started this process I couldnt swing the visits as much plus if we were going to have a life here, I couldnt very well be gone if I wanted to keep my job and still make a living. My kids are here too so that definitely kept me busy and occupied.

The time went more fast when I threw myself into my work...I just would get to work by 7am and not come home till near 9 (I had 2 jobs). Then we would talk all night long and I would have the same routine everyday. I even worked Saturdays. I got to a point where the uncertainty and the waiting really got to me and I was only able to see him like every 10 months. I really feel for those of you who have stuck it out not seeing each other for 1-2 years. I dont know if we would have survived that.

I am happy to read these comments, because before I found this site, I really felt alone and wondered if other people felt that void, concern, sadness and loneliness that goes along with being separated from the one you love. I felt at times that it would never end and wondered what if he couldn't come. Really a dreadful time but we made it through and you will too!

My husband basically let himself rot away there whereas I have always been very social and was extremely busy with the kids and work. My time certainly went faster and was more productive. I felt bad because I didn't want to sit around and just be chained to the computer. I wanted to keep occupied because I knew if I just sat around I would become more depressed. GOD we are thankful for MSN messenger, the web cam and micro....it made us feel we were right there with each other. The hard part was on him because he had to sit very long hours late at night and into the wee hours of the morning just to talk to me and keep us close. Most times he walked 30 mins in either direction to the cafe and didnt have a comfortable chair or privacy. I would be going to sleep at 1 am and he would be just getting home and trying to sleep at 7am. I love you for that BABY! luv.gif
They were just hard times indeed....

Lastly I want to say. PRAY. Find your hope and strength in GOD, he came through for us every time and GOD WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU NEED good.gif

I had 3 kids that got the croup all the time and have asthma to some degree or another
i hope he doesn't get it but if he continues regularly enough with croup you'll take him to an allergist ??
You may have good insurance where they provide you with a nebulizer and you just get your script for the albuterol?
I never had that advantage with mine so they suffered a long time till the allergist gave us a bunch of daily and emergency inhalers
