Oh WOW ! Congratulations Corinthians ! hahahaha AWESOME !

So, I am in the USA !!!!!
I traveled yesterday, it was long...
I passed the immigration in JFK, everything went perfect, I gave my envelope to the officer, no question, just "You are here to get married" and it is so weird to smile and reply "yes" to this question at a POE !
He looked at my folder, and said that Jamie was a really lucky guy. Then I went to another room where a guy played with my folder and his computer for a couple minutes then I left ! Fingers in the nose !

Love you guys !

So glad to hear you got home safely and that the POE was painless. Now you can relax and continue your journey together - fantastic

YAY Juliette!!!!!!

That's great news! good.gif

Terri: Sorry to hear you're sick. sad.gif
Cham: Sorry to hear about your spine problems. Recurrent health problems can really bring a person down, but I trust that you're trying to stay hopeful.

I had a melt down yesterday. Andy's internet went down again the night before and I had a bad morning (I'm coordinating a group trip to Seattle for a conference...) and I flipped my lid when Andy forgot to ask how I was. The combination of pressures on me and our relationship is so close to doing me in sometimes! There never seems to be any relief. I hope something changes soon, because I don't know how to keep going with so much weight on my shoulders.

Aubrey, I know how u feel i have been in those same shoes...Johnys internet going down, him forgetting to tell me hello or ask how i am doing....and i freaked out on him then the next day cuz i was so upset that we couldnt talk. I have tried to stay calm lately but it is hard sometimes you just have to have a melt down. Your interview is the same week as ours...we had to wait 6 weeks before we got an interview and they told me it was because they didnt have any available before that which i think was complete bull ####### but oh well now only 3 weeks and 3 days to go...or 24 days...but hey who is keeping track??? haha...and i have this horrible feeling that he will not be approved...it eats me up every time i think about it...anywayz...I hope u feel better tomorrow andi n the weeks too come...*hugs*

Thanks, doll. I hope you're hanging in there, too. I think I'm probably not going to feel better until Andy finally gets hired and makes some serious dough. It's been ridiculously long. This weekend he's going to some job-search skill training and he's going to start studying for another tech certification.

Btw my VJ darlings, I'm headed to Seattle this weekend for an AIGA conference, which hopefully turns into a mental break... depends on how the two girls I'm driving act, I imagine. They're barely 21, and sometimes I feel like I could be their mom with the difference! tongue.gif

Sorry to hear that things are rough right now Aubrey. It's such hard work searching and interviewing etc. I'm hoping for the best for you and Andy. Enjoy your weekend in Seattle! (I've never been)

I figured it was taken from the Bible book Corinthians.

I thought most people would think that...it's kinda interesting how religious everyone seems to be on VJ.

You think so? I see it mostly in the MENA forum and a lot of the PI people are but besides that I don't really see it.

How long is the Extraits de Casier Judiciaire valid? I have several months before I receive the NOA2 but would like to prepare all the required documents. Is the police certificate valid for a short amount of time? How long will it take my fiance to receive one? Any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks!

Can anybody that went through the interview in Paris could clarify if we need to present the I-134 form or the I-864?
From the embassy letter Frenchwife has posted it looks like it is the I-134, but I am wondering if it is because she did an IR?

Also are tax transcripts enough, and is it ok to have copies instead of originals?

Thanks in advance.

We used the I134 and not the I864. The I864 is for AOS. And we used copies of the tax transcripts.

Hello,

Can anyone please advise how to go about registering our marriage at the French Consulate in D.C.? What documents are needed? I guess the marriage certificate needs to be translated? What was your experience like? We did not do the "la publication des bans" before our marriage since we did not know about it, will that still be ok? Appreciate your help!

I am so sorry that I didn't respond earlier. You have probably already figured it out. But in case someone else is wondering, I'll post an answer. My (French) husband went to the consulate and got a list of documents that he needed. It included our American wedding cert but he did not translate it. They accepted the English version. We didn't do the publication des bans either. I think my husband said that we didnt do it because we needed to get married right away for immigration purposes - so he could get work authorization as soon as possible. It worked because we got our livret de famille this week. I hope that helps.

It's the same here in St. Louis, it's hard to find good seafood. We did found a store that sold fresh seafood but they didn't have a lot of choice. And it wasn't like the ones in France. The oysters were at least twice the size of the ones in France, same for the mussels, and they didn't have the same taste. I think they were less salty. It was still good to have some, but definitely not as good as in France.

Come to California! smile.gif We have great seafood here. I did have some great seafood in La Baule (last year) and Deauville (the year before that).

Hello all!

Jeremy and I are doing well. He got his visa earlier this month, turned in his notice to his job and is preparing to move. He's moving to the US on May 14th. I've started planning for our civil ceremony (ceremony, license, dress, lunch, flowers etc). I do not like it. The K1 process was less stressful for me. A little bit at a time, I guess.

Congratulations Alice smile.gif Jeremy's interview is tomorrow afternoon. Today he went to the medical and said that everything went fine. I'm not from the San Diego area. I'm from the Bay Area but I go to Southern California alot. WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA smile.gif

For everyone looking for the job in the US. Keep trying! It's takes a lot of work to find a job, even if you are a USC. It took about a month and half of hard hard work for me to find the job that I have now. I suggested, I reccomend going to lots and lots of temporary agencies. Post your resume on Monster, Careerbuilder, yahoo jobs and other job sites. Browse craigslist etc. I did this everyday for a little over a month before I found something decent. Even if you have a bad interview or phone interview, don't be discouraged. Just keep trying. Whenever I have a bad interview or interview for a job that I know that I don't want, I just look at it as practice. Don't worry, you'll find jobs soon.

Also, if anyone has any advice on where to look for tech jobs, please let me know. My fiance is a software engineer in France but I don't know that much about the tech job market. If you have advice on how to prepare while he's in France, things he should know, stuff he should get, please help me smile.gif

Merci!

I don't think that the vaccine should be mandatory for anyone. I'm an USC and I have not gotten it and will not get it because I think its ridiculous and I don't trust vaccines for the first few years...I'm paranoid. It's unfortunate that they make immigrants get this vaccine.

it's never been so quick at the custom. I was outside the terminal with my visa stamped and my luggages in hand less than 45 minutes after the plane landed. seriously!! if you ever fly to Dulles DC from Paris here is a good advice: fly with the 10.15am flight cause you're the only international flight arriving in Dulles at 1pm. When flying with the later flight you get stuck after the Iberia flight coming from Madrid and it's a pain..
We got our mariage licence yesterday so now we just need to contact someone to perform the ceremony. it's really weird for me that it is not performed by an officier d'état civil!

about the money to pay to the American consulate it was actually 107,42 euros!! outsdrastist if you want you can pm me with your email address and will forward you my copy of packet 4, I have it in pdf.
the one thing that you want to make sure your fiancé has ready and signed by you is the I134 (affidavit of support). U were supposed to have it ready when u sent back the packet 3 so it should be ok.

the doctor is supposed to take your fiancé in priority. I had my appointement 2 days before my consulate appointement and got my medical file ready the morning of the interview. the medical cost me about 160 euros.

and don't forget the enveloppe gonflable !

DS-2001
DS-230 part I
DS-156 (x2)
DS-156K
DS-157
I-134 (to be filled out by the US citizen)
Oath

I know that the checklist and DS-230 have to be sent to the embassy right away to receive packet 4 but do we have to send I134, the police certificate, my fiance's passport, passport style pictures etc. to the embassy before we get packet 4 or does my fiance bring that info to the interview? Please help. If my fiance needs this info right away then i'll mail it to him tomorrow.

one more question, how did it take the embassy to send you packet 3 after the embassy received your case?

Hello again my fellow France/America couples! I need your help. My fiance and I just received the NOA2. (woo!!! - I feel like my life can move on now) We're assembling all the paperwork for Packet 3 and the interview. On the VJ Paris embassy page it says that my fiance will have to submit a letter stating that he has not served in the military. Where do we get this from? Please help. Thanks!

Hi !

I had the same question a couple of weeks ago:) It depends on his age cause the regulation has changed. If he is young enough he didn't have to do the full "service militaire" (that is I believe if he was born after 1978) then he probably did "la journée d'appel". He shall have a document saying he did. Lucie's advice was to copy the law explaining the "service national" regulation. He can find it on the legifrance website : http://www.legifranc...eTexte=20081204 then go to the left to see the entire regulation (especially chapter 2 : champ d'application).

So as a man I would try to bring :
1/ the document saying what I did (service nationale or journée d'appel). I'm sure he can ask for a copy to the autority in charge if he has lost it. His town hall can probably help him with this.
2/ a copy of the regulation

bon courage and congratulation for NOA2!!

Awesome! I will tell my fiance. Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone!

I hope you gus\ys are all doing well...

I have a quick question...My boyfriend and I are seriously looking into the option of getting married but I was wondering what is the fatest way. Is it to go through to the K1 visa ( i'll prefer to do that but my SO is more for the other option). or to get marry while visiting him and then adjust the status? With the K1 visa or what is the average time to get the paper to be able to work??
To be completely honest, I'm kinda lost with all the process..but we have VJ thank god for that! My boyfriend and I are having a very hard time to be away rom each other and because of my job I don't even know if i'll be able to go and visit him anytime soon cray5ol.gif but you guys all know that very well...anyway I was just wndering..thanks and best of luck for everyone in the process of getting the papers!

I'm actually replying to my own message but I think I'll prefer to go on the K1 road, the avergae time of doing the paper works takes approx 6 to 8 months if everything goes smoothly..

One last question because the answers aren't clear on the whole website. Are you allow to visit your SO for a couple of weeks while waiting for your K1 visa?

I did it twice using the waiver program, that is just filing the I 94 form at the custom. but u can never say for sure that they're gonna let u in. They tend to ask a lot of questions once they find out you come to see your boyfriend/fiancé. They want to check that you are not going to use your tourist visa to imigrate. Last time the officer asked me if I intended to get married with him while in the US so I told him I was processing a K1 and visiting meanwhile. Once the officer was very sceptical I had to tell the whole story of how we meet, what I was doing in Niger (I was then living there), why I was arriving in DC when the address on the form said I was gonna stay in North Caroline (we were visiting his family) and so on. They tend to be very nice with me when I end up saying he is a Irak veteren. I think it's very unfair but well.. it helps!
anyways.. it smart to travel with a copy of your NOA1 or NOA2 if you have it.

I'm going again next week for thanksgiving smile.gif

Lili star_smile.gif

My fiance is coming to visit me in the US this week and we haven't received the NOA2 yet. Lots of ppl on VJ have visited their SO during the process, so it's definitely possible.

Hello Woostine,

I know it can be hard. My friends and family are amazed that my fiance and I have stayed together for 3 years. It takes a lot of work and patience but for some people it can work. My fiance and I met in 2005. He was here on foreign exchange master's internship (J1 visa). He was supposed to go back to France for the end of the summer and then come back to the US in the fall for a 3 year Phd program but he had some immigration issues (I won't get into that). I was really upset because I thought we'd break up but we decided to try to make things work long distance. We take turns visiting each other every 4-6 months. (It takes up all my vacation time tongue.gif and I know that we both want to travel to different countries besides the US and France. someday...) We communicate every day by either email, gchat, phone calls or text msgs. We have a phone date every Sunday (morning for me, evening for him). I think the one thing that helped us stay together is reassurance, understanding and flexibility. Reassurance that we love each other and are still committed to each other and understanding and flexibility regarding time differences and schedules. He does a better job of all of that than I do. smile.gif

We decided to go the K1 route because it seemed like the only viable option for us to be together in the same place long-term. After 3 years we both got tired of being apart most of the time. And really marriage was just the next step in our relationship. We haven't gotten married yet. I'm in the CSC K1 waiting hell smile.gif but I can't wait for him to be here. We started talking about marriage about in spring of 2007. We just want to be together.

So similar to what Cecile & Bryan said, everyone is different. Everyone deals with their emotions differently. Best of luck with your decisions. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Merci! I live in the Bay Area and will probably get married around here so I'll check out the consulate in San Francisco. Thanks again for the culture lesson. My fiance didn't know what I was talking about smile.gif

Hello
We got married yesterday!
I have a question for the ones who did the "transcription". Apparently they ask for a certified copy of the marriage certificate. Can I just send a photocopy of that certified copy? I suppose that I can't but figured I should ask first. We only have one certified copy so if I need to send it, I'll have to request another one.

Congratulation on your wedding!! smile.gif
The marriage certificate must have the apostille. In order to get it, you need to send your certified copy of the marriage certificate to the secretary of State who in exchange of a small fee ($10 or less, depends on your state) will attach an apostille to it. Without it, the French Consulate will reject your application.
Just a little FYI, your birth certificate cannot be older than 3 months and your US spouse's one cannot be older than 6 months.

You did the "publication des bans" right?
I am not sure if birth certificates are needed if you did things the right way. tongue.gif

yes we did the "publication des bans". I don't see how the birth certificate of my husband cannot be older than six months since they only get one. I mean, it's not like in France. What we get in France is a copy of our BC. Here they don't give a copy but an original. I had sent a photocopy of it for the publication des bans (along with mine, that was less than 3 months old - or 6 - can't remember). Maybe I'll send them an email to ask if we need to send BC again.
So since it needs the apostille I will really need to request another certified copy just for the French paperwork then. sad.gif
Oh and we are dependant of the Consulate in Chicago, not Boston.

The fact that you did the publication des bans will simplify things. smile.gif
On all copies of BC, even in France, it gives the date the copy was made. The same goes with an American BC. smile.gif Your hubby can request many certified copies of his BC, my hubby has three of them. I don't even think you need them anyhow since you did the publication des bans.
Regarding requesting certified copies of your marriage certificate, you can do it in person.

Mmh, you are dependent on the French Consulate in Boston and their instructions do not mention anything about apostille but my Consulate required it. I know how the French Government wants the same exact papers like clockwork.
You might want to give them a ring. If not, all instructions are given here.

Are these documents and the process you refer to necessary to have the marriage recognized in France? I have never heard of this before. Please help smile.gif

Yes, they are. Ask your fiance to look into it! smile.gif Doing all these paperwork will give you the privilege of getting your "livret de famille".

Hello again,

I hate to be a pain but will someone please explain all this to me? I asked my fiance about it and he had no clue. (But promised he'd look into it smile.gif) From your posts I gather that before I get married in the US I have to turn in paperwork to the French consulate so that my marriage can be legal in France? Is this necessary/French law? What is the benefit? -- If we want to move to France? Will someone please briefly explain all this to me? I don't know much about French law. Merci!

Hello France/America Couples,

How long is the Extraits de Casier Judiciaire valid? I have several months before I receive the NOA2 but would like to prepare all the required documents. Is the police certificate valid for a short amount of time? How long will it take my fiance to receive one? Any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks!

I posted an answer for you in the other thread you created. smile.gif
